This surgery was because my Ulnar nerve was severely damaged by the wrong BP cuff squeezing my arm with extreme pain during my week in ICU at Aurora (they nicked at artery during spine surgery). I told every dr and nurse that saw me every single time they came into the room. They didn’t listen. I have witnesses and documented. I had spinal surgery and was on a pain pump and my fingers and arm were more painful than my spine and still hurt even on heavy pain meds. Yet they still left the wrong cuff on for days. When I was transferred downstairs the nurse listened to me and even said she didn’t understand why they had the wrong cuff on me and put the correct one on.
I wouldn’t have needed my Ulnar nerve surgery if it was not for the extreme incompetence of the nurses and Drs on my surgery in March.
My hand has been near impossible to use and has been in extreme pain for over 3 months. So many wasted hours at physical therapy. Miserable abd moody around my family. Had to cancel our summer trip to Florida to visit my friends and family and aging mom. Ruined summer for my young kids and my newborn baby I can’t even pick up because of my arm for almost 4 months now. Can barely type. Out of work for months longer. I am pursuing a lawsuit against Aurora for the medical negligence. I’ve been an executive in healthcare for 20 years and a Wisconsin Client Right Specialist and my spine surgery was not how you treat people. I even had puss from infection and blood clots from catheter that was jammed in me wrong. Had to have urgent appt after discharge to get it out. I asked to have it taken out before being discharged and they wouldn’t. It still burns sometimes 3+. months later. I took 3 pages of contradictory info the nurses and Drs during my 7 day stay there.
I left with major issues I didn’t have going in. My arm has huge scar on it and will never be the same, I’ve reported this hundreds of times to Aurora and have been completely ignored.
Dr Kirkpatrick, his staff, and the nurses this time (other than one nurse trying to put wrong BP cuff on me and saying she couldn’t find the right size, but she at least asked another nurse who told her where to get the correct one when I refused this time. I refused in ICU too it hurt so bad but they refused to listen) were great during my Ulnar nerve surgery but I wouldn’t need this surgery if it wasn’t for the incompetence at Aurora to begin with.
Dr Leschke was also great who did my spine surgery. It was the care from the nurses after that was horrible. He left to go to OSMS cause I know he saw problems at Aurora as his NP asked me to track issues before my surgery because of my professional medical experience.
Had to type this with my non dominant hand so please forgive bad typing..
