Barton Publishing review: Fraudulent Charges 5

This review was chosen algorithmically as the most valued customer feedback.

After ordering a $17 report to download to my computer, and carefully responding no to a variety of other requests that popped up, I was surprised to discover I was charged over $250.00. I was charged for a VIP upgrade, a printed report (again, something I made efforts to select NO to when asked if I would like to receive it) and a number of herbs sent to me by a third party.

After speaking to two very nice customer service representatives and writing a complaint directly to the company, I have not received a refund or response.

I am planning on submitting a formal complaint to the FTC if anyone cares to join. I also will be filing suit in small claims court if my refund is not received over the next several days.

Marina,

Your credit card has been fully refunded.

The reason you were charged for over $250 was due to a programming glitch with our shopping cart that happened in August. That problem was fixed shortly after you ordered, and I apologize for any inconvenience.

We also sent you an email notification of your refund, but you must not of received our email in your inbox due to an overly sensitive spam filter.

Thank you,
Joe Barton, CEO
Barton Publishing Inc.

I had the same experience. I purchased an e-book on hypertension. The cost came out more than expected, but I assumed it was a fault on my side. However a c/card deduction was made from my account without authorisation which I was able to trace back to Barton publishing. I believe no amount of excuses or apparent reddressing of this matter will stop Barton from continuing with misleading representation of his services/products. I am posting this e-mail from South Africa and besides this site, have found others referring to similar complaints about Barton. Unless this type of sales promotions is stopped more unweary individuals will fall prey to it. The whole cyber-arena will become an arena of suspicion and mistrust.

Hello, my name is John Code. In June of 2009 I purchased a pamphlet from Barton Publishing for approximately $20 that dealt with natural cures for acid reflux. Recently I looked at my bank statement and noticed that Barton Publishing has been taking $4.95 out of my checking account for the last 14 months. I called Barton Publishing and spoke to their customer service agent, Linda. I asked her why they were taking this money out of my checking account every month, and she said that I had signed up for their online news letter for home cures. I told her that I did not sign up for a monthly newsletter and that I would like my money back. She told me no, that I would not be receiving a refund. Then when she noticed I was a little upset she told me that I didn't need to be that way. At that point I asked if I could speak with her supervisor. She told me she would have her supervisor call me back. After a week, I had not heard from anyone, she told her supervisor that I had not heard from her. The next thing I know is I get an email from sheila@workaholics4hire.com. Sheila offered me $14.85 of my $69.30 back. I told her no, that I did not order their online newsletter and that she can check to see if I have ever logged into the newsletter. It's been another week, and I have not heard anything else from Sheila at workaholics4hire.com.

The only thing I can think of is that when I ordered the pamphlet, there must have been a box checked that I did not uncheck. I have run into this before. It is a very deceptive practice, and I think it should be against the law. At any rate, this is the beginning of my campaign to get my money back. Next stop will be the Minnesota Attorney General.
