The Geek Squad has failed me at every turn since January.

In January I purchased a new laptop for a friend of mine and Microsoft 365 for multiple computers that I intended to use when I got a new computer for myself and to allow my friend to use as well. I also purchased the Total Tech package to ensure this all happened smoothly. It took me until November, longer than expected, for me to get a new computer.

I set up an appointment after purchasing the new computer online to bring in my old desktop and have the data transferred from the old desktop to the new one. I took in the old computer and, waited a few days and went in to pick up the new computer as well as the old computer, just in case something might not have transferred properly. When I got the new computer home, there were several things that were not the way I would have liked. The Microsoft 365 was not loaded onto the computer and browser favorites were not transferred.

This seemed manageable, so went about the updating and getting the computer set up the way I wanted. I got most of the fine tuning done so that my browsers set up the way I liked and other small things fixed, then called the Geek Squad to get the Microsoft 365 loaded onto the computer. They were able to do this, but because my friend had loaded it onto her laptop and somehow that made her the owner. It was at this point that I noticed that my friend had been made the administrator on my computer.

I continued the remainder of the fine tuning of my computer and then called the Geek Squad to make me the administrator on my computer. They remoted in and made me the administrator, then removed my friend. It seemed to go well and I gave the person who did it a glowing feedback response. Then I tried to use the computer and found that nearly 330 GB of data was missing, all of the data transferred from the old computer as well as everything that I had generated since I got the computer. I called the Geek Squad and the only course of action that was allowed to me was to bring the computer into Best Buy and the first appointment I could get was yesterday.

I brought the computer in and the Geek Squad member was unable to find the missing data. So I also dropped off my old computer so that I could get a start on the rebuild. The Geek Squad member who took the two computers asked if the hard drive was in the old computer. I could only say that I was not sure because I did not check to see if it was there when I picked it up, since my trust in the competency of the Geek Squad is at about zero.

Then I called my friend and told her what was happening, and she said that the Geek Squad had for some reason made me the administrator on her computer. This distressed me even further because my friend's name was nowhere in the paperwork for my computer and my name was only on the bill of sale for my friend's computer, but her name was on the appointment for setting up her laptop.

Claimed loss: Pictures and data saved over the last month to include priceless pictures of family, spreadsheets I need for paying my bills and preparing my taxes.

Desired outcome: For my computer to have all the lost data loaded onto it, and my computer and my friend's computer to be updated properly the Microsoft 365 multi-computer software and the proper administrators.
