On 10-26-2023 I received an offer in my email from Credit Karma for a personal loan from 'Best Egg'. It looked straight forward and I needed the money for a major purchase so I filled out the application and was instantly approved. I asked for $6300. The next day, I received notice that the loan was 'funded' into my checking account. However, when I checked there was only $5688 deposited. I immediately phoned Best Egg to inquire. The first person hung up on me (Elisa). I phoned back and asked to cancel the deal. I was told they would remove the money they deposited and that the deal would be closed. However, now they claim I still owe the shortage amount and it's for a "funding fee". I never heard of such a thing. And I worked in the lending business myself for years. So in essence not only did I not get a loan but it now cost me hundreds of dollars out of pocket to resolve this "loan". It was not disclosed to me upfront regarding this fee. If it had been I'd have never approved acceptance of this loan. Best Egg is a pure scam. Not only do they charge interest, which I agreed to, but they charge a huge upfront fee for apparently nothing. The fee was so large it precluded my ability to make the purchase which was the reason for the loan. Can you spell 'fraudulant'?
Claimed loss: $562.31 so far
Desired outcome: Complete cancellation of the "loan" which I requested as soon as the loand was "funded".
