Hello English Bulldog Lovers,
It's Kat from MN again. I am so sick and tired of dealing with Martin and his so called business. I went to my vet's office as promised today and got a copy of the letter sent to PAWS on the 18th of February. It's so funny because the day I called PAWS, Maggie their representative called Martin for a copy of my pet warranty. So why Martin is saying he is unaware of cause of death is beyond me. Today the 2nd of March I decided to follow up with PAWS in regards to the claim I filed 2 weeks ago. Guess what? Martin still has not sent them a copy of my pet warranty. I emailed him after talking to a PAWS representative and asked him if he knew my puppy was sick and was going to die all along. Well anyways in regards to the letter with my puppies diagnosis that was faxed this morning at 9am. I sent him an email to confirm the fax. He said he would be in the office later today and that he and his vet would have to review it. It's almost 6pm here and I still haven't heard anything. I bet I won't and if I do Martin would have found some loop hole to jump out. I so tired of him and his lies. I promised to post the diagnosis on line so here it is.
Okay Martin, I totally agree with what you have to say here. My name is Kathy and my friends and family do call me Kat. Why you are saying my identity is not identified is beyond me. What also is beyond me is why you are saying you have been unaware of cause of death. I called you the morning after it happened. I even had my vet office fax a copy of the cause of death to PAWS that same day. Just a FYI too, I work at a Trauma One hospital here in the twin cities and am very familiar with diagnosis. The day Henry got sick I acted immediately I had him to the closest vet within 5 minutes of him getting sick. For goodness sakes I left the house in my PJ's and slippers that is how fast I reacted. Working at a hospital I know that how and when you react is essential. I tried to help Henry I reacted immediately but in the end I just couldn't give him the help he needed. Standing in that emergency room at that vet office I was hoping someone would just pinch me and I would awake from the dream but it was reality. Coming home empty handed was the hardest. We loved Henry and took very good care of him for the two weeks that he was with our family. I would never spend 1400 for a puppy that I would neglect. I am a good mom to my children and was a great mom to my little Henry. We miss him everyday. First thing Monday morning Martin I will have my vet's office fax you a copy of cause of death and I hope you keep your end of the bargain. Or are you going to find some lope hole to jump out of. And for the world I will post that cause of death on this page so that it will prove to the world that this is not some story I just made up yesterday and that I am not the kind of person Martin portrays me to be in his response. I will let you guys know if Beverly Hills Puppies keeps their end of the bargain.
Sorry guys the letter didn't load very well in order to have it readable I had to increase the font size. Sometimes you can read it and sometimes you can't. Try clicking on it a couple of times. Maggie is the representative at PAWS this is the original letter sent out the day after Henry died.
Hello again English Bulldog Lover,
It's Kat from MN. Sorry I've been meaning to let the world know how my story ended but I've been so busy. Well after my vet's office faxed the cause of death to Martin he did indeed keep his end of the bargain and allow us to pick out a new puppy free of no charge. We picked her out on Tuesday the 3rd of March and I and my girls picked her up from the airport on the 5th. She is adorable and has a great personality and temperment. I took her to the vet the next day and he thinks she is very healthy. To Martin and Beverly Hills Puppies I am sorry that I had to take this route to get results but I am very thankful that you guys did send us a new puppy as promised. Chloe is and will be loved! Once again Thank you!
Hello there again,
I figured I would post on both complaints. Well I just wanted to let everyone know that Martin did keep his end of the bargain. We've had Chloe for a week now and she is in good spirits and learning the ropes of being a puppy. I just wanted to thank Beverly Hills Puppies for allowing us to pick out another little puppy free of no charge. I've grown from this experience as a person and as a first time puppy buyer. This experience had it's ups and downs but in the end the outcome was good. We got our little Chloe!
Hello English Bulldog lovers. On January 29th of 2009 my family made the biggest mistake of our lives by purchasing a english bulldog from Beverly Hills Puppies owned and operated by Martin Roy Leon. Our puppy was shipped to us on the 31st of January. He seemed like a very healthy little puppy. It was a pleasure having him in our home. Sad to say on the 17th of February our little puppy Henry died due to Acute Pulmonary Edema. It means he filled up with fluid inside. It caused us a lot of heartache and a lot of money for the vet bill. I contacted Martin the day after the puppy died. He asked me to contact him a couple of days later so I did. I told my husband and children that I would never want another little puppy again. It hurt so bad and how could after just 2 weeks you can become so attached to them. So after a couple of days of thinking I contacted Martin he agreed to give us a little puppy when we felt as though we were ready at what he called a discount $800.00 including shipping. I thought about it we paid $1449.00 for Henry, with his kennel, food, toys and all need accessories was about $500.00, his first vet check cost $150.00 and his final vet visit when he died cost us $404.00 a grand total of well over $2000.00. So I asked Martin 2 days ago to see if he would be willing to give us a puppy at $500.00. I haven't heard from Martin in two days. I have sent him numerous emails. But in the mean time I've done a lot of research about Beverly Hills Puppies and Martin Roy Leon. If you google complaints about Beverly Hills Puppies there are a couple of complaints online. Read them very carefully. One of the complaints has a couple of response to them by alleged buyers of Martins. One alleged buyer Bruce Wright put in two comments one for himself and one for an alleged Dr. Roger Narula both just really happy with their english bulldogs. Well if they are two different people how could they log in under the same name and sign their comments under different names. Oh, I guess Martin Roy Leon forgot to log off Bruce Wright before he wrote comments under Dr. Roger Narula. But I guess it's kind of too late to change that since he doesn't own the complaint website. Be very careful everyone. When I bought our puppy Henry I asked to see pictures of mom and dad. Moms name was Eloisa and his dad's name was Beto. Three days ago when I enquired about 2 puppies he had on his site and wanted to see pictures he sent them but guess what Henry's dad the same dog in the pictures has a new name now. He can't keep them straight. I contacted NKC and the women on the line said their are numerous complaints about Beverly Hills Puppies and their Pedigrees. Call NKC before buying a puppy. The number is [protected]. Oh yeah and also call the Better Business Bureau of Florida they too also have complaints. I been watching Martin's site and every week he has about 18 little puppies on his site. You have to help but wonder where he is getting all these little puppies and if they are healthy. Anybody can send false documents and it wouldn't be hard to have a vet just sign a Health Certificate. I mean if he puts his own comments online he could do anything. Oh yeah try googling this Dr. Roger Narula he doesn't exist anywhere. I have contacted Martin via email to let him know that I will let the world know and will tell my story to anyone who will listen. So please investigate this breeder before buying. If anyone would like to contact me and would like information about Beverly Hills Puppies and all their discrepancies I have kept all my emails from Martin and would be happy to forward them to you. Let's put two and two together to see if your info matches mine cause it looks like he can't keep his dogs straight let alone comments online straight.
First, we are very sad her hear that a puppy that we sold has died. Second, it is our intent to always resolve any dilemmas with our buyer.
This is in response to a complaint posted on 02/28/2009, pertaining to a English Bulldog that was purchased on January 29, 2009. First, this complain does not have a name of who placed.
We can only assume that this puppy was the one shipped to Minnesota. Since the person that placed the complaint did not wish to reveal her or his name; I will not reveal what I believe the name to be of the person that may have placed the complaint.
First, this puppy was shipped with a Florida health certificate signed by a licensed veterinarian. Dr. Jose A. Romano, D.V.M. examined and certified that the puppy was in good health. The buyer was required to have the puppy examined with 72 working hours after the arrival of the puppy.
The telephone call made to me from the buyer on February 19, 2009 the puppy was in good spirits and in good health up until the moment he died. It was my understanding from the buyer a veterinarian the examined the puppy right after he died. It was further my understanding that the veterinarian was not sure the cause of death.
We are for the first time becoming aware that apparently the puppy died because of Acute Pulmonary Edema. This and all of our puppies are shipped with a PAWS warranty that covers up to $1000.00 of medical bills within the first 90 days after arrival. If this puppy had medical issues, why was the puppy not taken for medical treatment?
We would be very interested in seeing the medical reports from the veterinarian that diagnosed that the puppy had died of Acute Pulmonary Edema. NO REPORTS HAVE BEEN SEET TO US BY THE BUYER.
“Symptoms of pulmonary edema include difficulty breathing, coughing up blood, excessive sweating, anxiety, and pale skin. A classic sign of pulmonary edema is the production of pink frothy sputum. If left untreated, it can lead to coma and even death, in general, due to its main complication of hypoxia. If pulmonary edema has been developing gradually, symptoms of fluid overload may be elicited. These include nocturia (frequent urination at night), ankle edema (swelling of the legs, in general, of the "pitting" variety, wherein the skin is slow to return to normal when pressed upon), orthopnea (inability to lie down flat due to breathlessness), and paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea (episodes of severe sudden breathlessness at night).”
If proper medical reports are supplied to us we will ship a puppy of her or his choice free of charge, shipping and every included.
In summation, we are now receiving conflicting reports of what transpired with this puppy shipped to Minnesota. The buyer indicated one set of facts and this complaint indicates different facts. We would like to resolve this situation, but we have never been forwarded any medical reports. The buyer never told us that the puppy died because of pulmonary edema. Rather the buyer told us that the puppy was fine up until the moment he died and that the medical doctor did not give a cause of death.
In our website: www.beverlyhillspuppies.com we very clearly state our conditions of our warranty. We will leave this case open pending proper medical report to substantiate the cause of death. Again, if the proper medical documents are sent to us we are prepared to ship another puppy of the choice of the buyer free of charge, shipping included.

I bought a puppy from him last December. When I got him everything was fine. After three months he got diagnosed with a condition that he will have for life called Hypoplasia of Trachea. His wind pipe is two small. We than had to get surgery that cost $1600 that would not fix the problem just help him breath. After that I got him insured. A few months after his first diagnoses the vet diagnosed with a torn ligament in his nee and bad hips. So once again I had to put him in for another surgery before the age of one. The vet did not want to do hip surgery because bulldogs do not recover well. I called Martin when he got diagnosed with the first condition, he said I could send the dog back at my expense and get a new puppy. I got so sick of dealing with him I stopped calling after a couple months. That being said he was three months old at the time. The dog had a health grantee and clearly that is not the case with my dog. I am in different country and it is hard to resolve a problem from so far away. I would not recommend this breeder to anyone.
Anyone have any problems with Sportsman Kennel in Manorville New York ? I paid $ 3, 100.00 for a Registered Bulldog puppy...Until I went to register her. I know of two other people so far. I had 2 puppies die from this jerk! He is nothing but a puppy killer with a posh name! He is a liar, a cheat and a pig! He gets his dogs from a puppymill in GA and the goverment entities that deal with this need to shut him down! I get TONS of emails where people bought puppies from the only to have them arrive sick and die within months like us! There was a guy going to put a class action suit on him because there were so many dead puppies! ALSO-we need to get this site to pop up when someone just enters beverly hills puppies
He needs to die the way all of these puppies are - suffering and in pain!
he has his own facebook page if he sells such "healthy regisered" puppies why is he so, , , careful about who he allows to be friends on facebook
There are two sides to every issue. Let us scrutinize the internet which is relative new to our society and the laws that allow complaints to be posted without proving the allegations. In the internet world anybody can post a complaint without proving any allegation.
It is not proper or correct for the internet to allow an anonymous person to post a complaint that contains allegations that has not been proven.
By writing something that is not true or correct our legal system allows us to sue for defamatory or libelous statements.

We did not sell a puppy to Mr. Michael Maida. We have had no sale conversations with Mr. Maida. Mr. Maida did not pay us any money for a puppy. We did not have verbal or written contract with Mr. Maida. The first and only conversation that we had with Mr. Maida was last week when he called us. We were at our kennel and the telephone conversation was cut off. Mr. Maida is misdirecting his claim by contacting us for the alleged parvo case of his puppy.
As breeders we sell retail and wholesale. All of the puppies that we sell, as required by Florida law are examined by a licensed veterinarian and certified by a health certificate indicating that the puppy is fit to be sold. All of our puppies are vaccinated against PARVO. There is a possibility that we may have sold a puppy wholesale and then the puppy was re-sold to Mr. Maida. If this is the case Mr. Maida should contact the firm that sold him the puppy.
With respect to the Parvo, if the puppy Mr. Maida received is a puppy from us and the puppy had PARVO all of our other puppies we have had PARVO. We have not had any cases of PARVO for years. We repeat all of our other puppies have not had Parvo and have not been ill.
From our years of experience in the industry, there are a good portion of veterinarians that immediately indicate that a puppy has parvo when there is vomiting or diarrhea or blood in the stool. In some cases there is parvo but in other cases the veterinarians tend to abuse of the situation as a result of charging excessive money for treating the puppy. Since the owner does not know better and because the puppy is sick the owner is forced to pay the excessive veterinarian costs.
In summation, we are not directly responsible for any alleged illness to a puppy that we did not sell to Mr. Maida.
I bought a puppy from him over 2 years ago she was 7 months at the time. I had a slightly bad feeling about him when my friend asked where the parents were & he said Georgia. But his wife got very upset & tearful when I took the puppy so that made me feel a bit better ?! Jellybean started having convulsions about a month after I got her home to the Bahamas but they are well controlled on medication. Now she obviously has hip dysplasia but is not in any pain. Apparently all bulldogs have some level of hip dysplasia but getting her back to Miami for a consultation/ surgery is not without complications & expense. I have her taking supplements & she never shows signs of pain, I worry about her seizure issue with surgery ...but mostly I wonder if the bugger Martin Leon knew about these issues. I love her to death, she is totally spoilt & pampered so what do you do just let her have a good life, but I have a bad gut feeling she may not be with us for many years.
I bought a puppy from Mr Leon 3 days ago that is supposed to be an AKC bullterrier, however whenever the puppy arrived at The airport, I noticed something strange. His ears are not standing up as they were in the photo but they are laying flat and he looks more like a Jack Russell or a dachshund. Upon taking him to the vet yesterday, the veterinarian told me he does not look at all like a full-blooded English bull terrier. He looked more like a hound or hound mix maybe with some Maltese in him. I was very upset about this so I emailed Mr. Leon a nice letter asking him if he could please send me pictures of the parents or explain why the puppy is only 4 1/2 pounds at eight weeks old. Putting him at around 13 pounds fully grown. Here are some pictures of him.
