GoodLife Fitness - treatment of employees / professionalism

There are multiple complaints and situations. I am going to copy and paste the complaints from the EMPLOYEE who works there and wishes not to be named for the time being.

1. "My GM Renata does NOT follow the GOODLIFE standards of wanting to help every Canadian live a fit and healthy life

she constantly complains about letting anyone do any type of trial pass and her policy is they pay get a membership or get out

which is totally unacceptable and not a good way to interact with possible new members"

2. "Wednesday August 8th 2019
at 4:45pm I was finishing up with my tour and taking the time with my member to properly explain all the amenities that come with each membership and in the middle my GM Renata comes up and interrupts asking me if I want to take the next walk in and I had politely asked if she would be able to take it as I am not nearly done and did not want to keep this guy waiting and she said no she can't take it so I said fine I guess I iwll

her tone of voice was EXTREMELY rude and her facial expression was VERY inappropriate to the point where Laura Kyrkos the member I toured was asking me who the hell that woman was and how I deal with someoen so rude
The sad part is that woman is my GM and completely unprofessionally interrupted my tour and possible chance to even close this member who than walked out of the gym with a bad taste in her mouth due to Renatas melt down

all to give the next walk in a key tag for his 14days that he has already been toured ofr she neglected her job as GM to ask him what he is here for and ruined my sale."

3. "My GM consistently asks me to be quite when I eat my lunch because I am chewing or drinking my soup too loud for her when she can close her office door

Our AGM constantly gets any sort of walk in web lead ect. leaving it difficult for an FA to get the ball rolling due to our location and outreach can be tough as well as in reach

I have come up with many workshops bringing in couple new members and working my hardest to obtain leads and the fact our AGM doesn't have time to do her job due to constantly hitting BAM and over instead of helping her FAS seems off to me"

4. "Monday July 22nd my GM proceeded to tell me that all teenage boys are gross and awkward and that MY soon to be SON will be gross and awkward too when he is a teenager but female kids are not gross and awkward because they are girls

5. "
Thursday July 18th at 9:40am my appointments came early I started work at 10am
my GM serviced them improperly only signing them up for a membership than left me to finish the last bit with no knowledge of what they had spoken about

I was than questioned as to what they got no PTS no starters I asked my GM if she had spoken to them about any of that and she proceeded to tell me it wasn't her job to do so it was mine even though I didin't start work till 10am

I figured our happy member number was everyone's job to make sure every single person walking through these doors were serviced 100% leaving me to do a service call and possible get them to come in for a starter."

6. "Monday July 15th I was pulled into the office and told I can go on mat leave whenever I want because I looked exhausted even though I wasn't wearing makeup because I thought I looked fine
they continue to inform me that they would be okay without me and If I don't want to come back tomorrow and I decide im done I can do that all because I didn't wear makeup that day and apparently looked tired"

7. "Tuesday July 23rd at 1:20 a walk in came to the gym I was free making calls our AGM was busy with an appointment and our GM was away

I was available and yet we still made our possible new member wait 7-8 minutes for our AGM to service them instead of grabbing myself to help her

my AGM passed off her appointment to our front desk to finish servicing her...
"

There are multiple other incidences, and this staff is accosted and spoken down to on a daily basis. I have entered the gym on several occasions and have found myself that the AGM "Renata" was extremely condescending and rude as well. She did not know my relationship with the staff member, and if she thought I was a prospective client, or even a CURRENT member, I would not want to ever go to that gym. I have a membership with Fit4Less and have never had any experience like the few times I have spoken with this lady who is responsible for RUNNING the club...

It is my understanding that Renata has been investigated prior and that staff turnover rate is extremely high at this club location and all staff that leave predominantly have had the same factor and that was due to their manager. I find it sad that a company with such an amazing reputation and who has helped so many people have still not done anything with this particular manager, giving so many people a bad taste from their run ins with her.

I highly suggest and request that something be done and this club, particularly the AGM be looked into again. As someone who is currently employed by quite a large and reputable employer, I would never wish to have someone in a position like hers and have power abused as well as the negativity that is associated with her club and member experiences.

GoodLife Fitness - inhumane business practice

Can you believe this?! I have been a loyal customer of Barrie Ontario Goodlife for over 10 years now. In those years I have purchased at least 3 personal training packages. In July of this year I decided to sign up with Canada’s top trainer for Goodlife three times a week which cost me $5000.00! I was really looking forward to training with him. In August I developed medical issues. Two doctors recommended that I was not to continue training. My family doctor wrote a note explaining my training should stop due to medical reasons. I read the personal training agreement and on the agreement it states that no refunds are available UNLESS UNDER THE DISCRETION OF THE CLUB MANAGER. I called Goodlife and had my sessions put on hold. Due to this statement and my medical condition I phoned the Goodlife Head Office and I was told that any refunds done were in the hands of the club manager at the club attended and they said they’d email the fitness manager to let him know of my issue to give him a heads up-they also alarmed me and told me that 13 more sessions had been book. I then found out that sessions that are booked and not attended count as missed appointments and the money would have been taken for them even though I didn’t even know about them!
I waited a week to hear back from the Barrie club’s fitness manager and no word, even though he was to respond to Head Office about my next step in what to do when a medical issue comes up and a person needs to cancel training. I couldn’t believe that my serious medical problem was getting no attention! I then called the club to speak to the fitness manager and he was always unavailable, I left many messages and finally I go through and said I’d come in to meet him. I explained my issue and his inconsiderate response was that receiving a doctor’s note to him is like receiving a note from a parent that their child needs to be taken out of school! He said that this case would have to be reviewed. Why reviewed? How many hoops do I had to jump through with a health issue? Goodlife promotes health and well being yet they disregard a doctor’s note?!? I then proceed to contact the club manager, whom also was very hard to get a hold of! When we finally spoke he said he was sorry for my situation, but he’d have to review my case and get back to me- one option would be to extend my time frame for training. An extension sounds reasonable, but when your medical doctor recommends you stop it needs to be taken very seriously and you should not be given the grief or the extended responsibility to complete sessions when your doctor says to stop and your not sure when you will be training again! I still am in disbelief that I am being treated so poorly with such a serious matter! What would someone do if they found out they had leukemia? Or couldn’t walk again? They wouldn’t have a refund either? What does it take to respect human rights and service people accordingly?! I have still heard nothing back from the Club!

I practice law in Toronto, and I too have training at Goodlife in a Toronto club and I asked my manager of this situation. We were under the similar understanding that you, as well as the club fitness manager, are bound to the terms of the contract and given all rights available to you under the Consumer Protection Act, none of which state you are elligible for refund of contractual services under any (medical included) circumstances. Sessions scheduled in Goodlife are charged if no notice is given, ONLY IF THE CLIENT SIGNS THE CONFIRMATION UPON REVISITATION TO THE CLUB, otherwise sessions cannot be processed, even by Management, as they too are enforcable only by signature.
You also have to note that although you are bound to the terms of the contract, "Indefinite" Medical issues will always be treated with the utmost courtesy and services refunded. As it is in this case it was not indefinite. Furthermore, your complaint is clearly personal, and it sounds to me that you have not explored all options available to you. You are within the right to sell your services to others who may want it, same as an auto loan or other related "Luxury" services contracts by simply exchanging money on your own terms, and submitting a gift letter authorizing the takeover to head office.
