My dog recently stayed at the Etobicoke location for a one-night hotel stay and a half day doggie day camp on June 9-10, 2019. And he came back to me with a terrible cough, which my vet diagnosed as kennel cough.
He is up to date on all his vaccinations and is only 6 years old. This is not the first time he has stayed at PetSmart Etobicoke and every time he does he contracts kennel cough which causes him great distress and truly pains me to have to hear him coughing and in pain.
He has also stayed at the Royal Pets Hotel and Spa for longer durations and has come back with a clean bill of health. I really don't understand how a nationwide chain has this problem. Can they not monitor the dogs correctly or is it more of a case of negligence.
I think it's ridiculous that I am paying $70+ for my dog to stay at this facility and he comes back to me sick. Now he has to be on a course of antibiotics and that is expensive ($500) and completely unnecessary.
This is something that needs to be looked into. I will definitely be looking into other accommodations for my next short vacation.
I would also like to point out that I also frequent the grooming center at the Vaughan location and I have never had any issues there so I think it may be the staff and facility in Etobicoke that is the problem.
