Mattress leaking air
Purchased Comfortaire Direct Sona Mattress four years ago. Within a few months, we had a problem of air leaking out. Parts were replaced along with the pumps . My husband's side of the bed was always leaking air and while we were gone for two weeks recently, that side of the bed looked like a sink hole when we returned. We could no longer sleep in the bed. Long story short, we went out today and bought a Beauty Queen Elite Firm mattress. Would not recommend Directaire Mattresses at all. Delivery people said they have heard this before from people with this kind of bed. Wasted $2, 200 on Comfortaire Direct Sona Mattress.
Poor Quality
I purchased a bed from Comfortaire 2 1/2 years ago. I decided to go with Comfortaire over Select Comfort because of the price. The pump was noisier, but we felt that we would be ok with that inconvenience. Little did we know that we would have many pump problems. After about 6-9 months, one of the chambers will not hold air. We followed their troubleshooting guide and determine the cause is the pump. We are now on our 4th pump in 2 1/2 years! They want to sell us a new upgraded pump for $250, but I do not think it is right for them to charge us for a problem they have. We should have bought the Select Comfort bed.
Comfortaire approached me and agreed to replace the pump with their latest design. The new design is quieter and reportedly has not had the issues that the old pump design had.
Please contact Comfortaire at [protected]. We would be glad to help you with the trouble you are having. Please ask for a manager when you call.

DO NOT BUY A COMFORTAIRE AIR MATRESS!
My mattress does not hold air. This is the second time for this problem. The first time it didn't hold air I had to pay a prorated price for a replacement air pump. I was not told I was buying a rebuilt pump. It is now less than 2 years later, the rebuilt is leaking, and they want to sell me another rebuilt pump. I've had enough. This company sells very poor quality products and they have very poor customer service. Nuff said.

I bought one of their beds in 2004, it has given me zero problems. The unit is supposed to have a 20 year warranty (pro rated apparently). I now have another person sleeping on this bed with me (500 old limit single bladder as I have) and I am guessing this may be what happened to the pump, too much back pressure from the extra weight on the bed. The bed was over a thousand new, and ten years later I apparently need a pump...a rebuilt pump they want 300 for or they would sell me another pump that's on sale right now for 250. You normally wouldn't have that much use from a regular mattress that could cost as much so I am not going to say their quality is bad, at least it wasn't in 2004 anyway. You may want to look around online, there are sites that sell third party oem pumps that work for the comfortaire and other brands for around 250.00 but I'd still rather buy a rebuild kit and change out the seals myself, it's the internal rubber seals that wear out over time from holding pressure the rest of the pump is still fine. You'd think they'd happily sell a hundred dollar rebuild kit for us po folk that can't afford to cough up so much cash in these financially trying times.
Positive product and company
I've had the complete opposite experience. My back still hurt very badly after getting one of their beds. I've already purchased another Sealy bed that I've had my first good nights sleep on in the past two months. Comfortaire won't even let me return the bed until the first 30 days are up. It's not like I'm going to change my mind and decide all of the sudden that I want to go back to having my back ache every night. They say you need 30 days for your back to adjust. I say they tell you that so your back has 30 days to think it has adjusted when it is probably causing you irrevocable damage to your body over the long haul. I can't believe anyone would truly fall for this load of garbage long enough to keep the bed. I guess I fell for it for the first week and a half that I had the bed but, not anymore. Oddly enough it only took my back one night to adjust to the Sealy bed I purchased. Now I'm sleeping well again. Save yourself some headaches and stay away from any of the air mattress companies in wolfs clothing.

Beware Beware ! We have owned a king size for 3 years. We asked for the air pump to be replaced right away since it would not hold air pressure. The replacement pump began loosing pressure about a year later. I contacted customer service and they would graciously agree to sell me another pump for around $300. Giving them more money for a ill-designed pump is not what I am willing to do. The only solution I have come up with is to use woodworking clamps to pinch the air hose together so that the mattress stays inflated. I advise looking elsewhere for an air mattress. You may pay more for the purchase however, hopefully, the better known company has more reliable components and actually warrants their products. There is a reason Comfortair has stayed a also ran in the air mattress world,

We bought the Comfortaire bed for our RV after the salesman from Sleep City told my husband that this was the original air bed, and it would be so much better than a Sleep number bed. I wake up with aches in my hips, shoulders and back since sleeping on this bed. If both people like the same firmness it might be okay. My husband likes a lower number so I have to have my side lower, which causes the pain or put it where I would like and fight to not roll down hill into him. Worse bed I've ever owned
We've had our Comfortaire mattress for a little over 4 years and have experienced significant problems. Initially, we were very happy with the quality and comfort. Then one of the air cells started losing air. After performing a little troubleshooting, we determined the mattress, not the pump, was the source of the problem. ComfortAire replaced it with no hassle. A few months later, the other air cell would not hold air at the proper settings, so we did some troubleshooting and this time it was the pump. After some some difficulty with customer service, they agreed to replace the pump. The air leaking problems still occur, though not as bad as before. We've grown to accept it - which is not right because, like most of you, spending over $2000 on a mattress is not chump change and we expected a higher quality product. After 4 years, there is also a hump in the middle of the mattress, which is a "feature" of having two twin air-cell mattresses. My back pains have returned because the support has gone out of my side of the bed. In all honesty, I can't say that these problems are unique to Comfortaire - maybe all air beds have these problems. But I see fewer complaints about Spleep Number beds.
My wife and I have been looking for a new mattress and can't find anything we want to spend another (minimum) thousand dollars on. We were online looking for air mattresses and came across the comfortaire web site. Saw they were having a sale. Comfort series king for $899. Never being able to lay on one of these beds since they aren't sold in stores, we were reluctant. So we read review after review on the web and decided we would try one, and since our fifteen year old son needed a new mattress we would get him a queen for $550, you can't beat the price. Web site said they were offering 12 months same as cash, so we applied for credit. We were approved for way more than what we needed to get those mattresses. We called them the next day and they said they don"t finance those mattresses because it costs them to much money. She said if we buy the queen for $550 that they have to pay the finance company about $250 to hold that loan. I said I"m not buying just the queen mattress I wanted the king and queen both. About $1500 total. She said she was sorry but they don't finance their lower quality mattresses, and that her boss told her that she noticed that I applied for credit the night before and said that she noticed we had a substantial amount of money to work with. But! (Here's the catch) we can finance the optima queen mattress($1250) for full price and you have a substantial amount of credit to purchase that mattress. I explained to her that the queen was for our son and that we wanted the king mattress for ourselves, and then i asked her why I could finance the queen optima for $1250 but not the king and queen comfort series together for $1500. She said she was sorry but they just don't finance those mattress. Then she said how it wouldn't be a problem with the amount of credit you have to finance the optima series king and queen both (which would have cost us about $2800). I told her not in a million years would I pay that kind of money for a mattress I have never laid on and all that you are doing is trying to high pressure me into something I don't want. She once again apologized, and kept trying to sell me the more expensive beds. Their sale was suppose to end on Feb. 4th, the next day (on the 5th) I checked to see if they were still on sale, and what do you know. The sale now ended on Feb.11th. PURE SCAM! They could give me one of their mattresses absolutely free and I would take it straight to the dump after the way they tried to high pressure me into one of their more expensive beds
My wife and I purchased our queen double chamber "Optima" four weeks ago. For the last four years we have had to sleep in separate beds due to the fact that my wife prefers a very soft bed due to back an rotator cuff surgeries, and I need the support of a firm mattress. I purchased a memory foam mattress a few years back and was quite satisfied with the bed however this did not work at all for my wife. We went to the local "other air bed" store to basically investigate the sleep number technology. I spent a month reading reviews, manufacturers wed sites and comparing return policies and "comfort guarantees". The majority of companies all require that you sleep on the bed for a minimum period of time before a return or exchange will be allowed, Comfortaire is no exception. This was the same for the conventional mattress stores as well. Keep in mind, most mattress stores ONLY allow trade ins, not refunds. The deciding factor for me was Comfortaire rating on Sleeplikethedead.com. Their price was lower, shipping free and return policy very clear and straight forward. I called and purchased my unit from Debbie. I wanted to confirm that if I ordered the bed, it would arrive by Christmas. (two weeks away). Debbie put me on hold why she called the warehouse to check stock. She informed me that although she could not promise that it would arrive in time, it would ship within two days. My bed arrived in nine days, three before Christmas. It took me 1 hour to set it up. The system is simple, extremely durable and the components all seem to be of decent quality. To further quiet the pump, which is really not that loud, I wrapped it in a blanket. Rocket science! Incidentally, my pump only runs when I make adjustments. I have never heard it have to compensate on its own. Bottom line, my wife and I have both slept great every night since. My wife is a 17 and I am a 41 setting. When I want to sit up and read, I am a "Full Fill 75". Weekend mornings, I drop down to 20 or so and sink in. This bed has been good for my body, my mind and my marriage! I cannot attest to having to deal with a return as I have no intention of doing so. We love this bed
After years sleeping on a Select comfort, my advice is investigate a new Air mattress called Innomax. I looked at all the Air mattresses in the USA and I came upon this video or Youtube. This guy is great! His name is John. He described all differences between Select comfort and Comfortaire. The Innomax is by far the best constructed, best warranty and MUCH lower price. I'm still on my 30 day trail but so far it's more that I could expect for the price. Warning, Innomax as a company doesn't offer a 30 day trial period but If you purchase from John, his company does. Free of charge
My husband and I ordered the Imperial with gel cooling foam etc etc. last month. Just the mattress, no foundation as we purchased a new platform bed for it, having never had a King before. I could go into my long story about how we've changed innerspring mattresses 5 times over the past 7 years due to all of them getting body impressions that killed our backs, but I'll spare you the details. We are in our late 30s now and were looking for a more longterm solution even if we had to pay a bit more. Patty in Comfortaire phone sales was very helpful and told us we could ship it back for free if we didn't like it. After reading tons of reviews all over the web for all kinds of mattresses, and growing a large distaste for the sleep number store staff in the mall, we figured we had little to lose by choosing Comfortaire, which according to Sleep Like the Dead has the highest satisfaction rate. What an enormous disappointment and waste of money. I can't lie on it for more than 10 minutes at ANY number. It's hard as a rock, unless you deflate it most of the way and then it's like a hammock, with no support whatsoever, and hurts my back as much or worse than a body-impressioned innerspring mattress. I can't imagine the cheapness of the foam that makes up the topper, it is horrible and not cushiony at all. This bed does NOT compare to a Sleep Number m7, which we originally wanted to buy but refused to pay their prices, were leery of their return policy, and can't stand their smug sales people. My husband has tolerated the Imperial for the requisite 30 days, but says it got worse for him and he's had to sleep with it on 75 (full air). For the last month I've rotated sleeping in the guest room (on our previous innerspring, which I hate), squeezing with my preschool daughter in her twin bed, or on the couch all month. How utterly infuriating. I now have to take meds for insomnia and the lack of sleep is affecting my job . I super hate this mattress and this company for charging us even ten dollars for such a thoughtlessly designed product. Our 30 days is up this weekend, I will call Monday to get my RA number and send it back. Beware, their website states that "dropping the mattress off at a Fed-Ex is your responsibility" and that BTW if the mattress arrives in less than perfect condition (after you, say, loaded it on the top of your car or rolled it to FEd Ex on a skateboard) you may not qualify for a full refund. How ridiculous is that. As this model mattress came fully assembled, we will put it right back in its box and get Fed-Ex to pick it up at our house, which I'll probably have to pay for but should outweigh Comfortaire's delightful damage prorations. And then what will we buy? I seriously have no idea and am even more frustrated by mattress companies than ever before, which I never thought possible.
After reading a number of complaints regarding the foam topping on the Sona model, I just phoned Comfort Aire, where I placed an order a bit earlier, and discussed my need for soft comfort next to my hips. Patty was as kind as could be and is now investigating replacing the foam that comes in the Sona with Memory Foam, which is softer, to see if they would charge for the upgrade or not. Since the one I've been using for 16 years never bothered me, and this mattress is upgraded from their original designs, she felt it was unecessary to pay extra if there would be a charge. I said earlier that every one of the staff has always treated me with courtesy and compassion, and I sort of wonder at the complainers if we are talking about the same company!
We purchased a Bella model air bladder mattress 2 years ago. It is absolutely the best mattress we have owned in forty years. The king sized mattress sits on a wooden foundation and gives my 325 pound body a great night's sleep at an 82 setting. My wife's setting is 64 for her 150 pounds. She loves it, also. Our previous inner spring and foam mattresses broke down over time and never satisfied my wife, as I needed a firm mattress. She finally has her soft mattress and I have my firm mattress. By the way, Debbie was our online contact person and was very helpful as well as professional.
I bought three beds from Comfortaire. We replaced the one we bought 12 years ago with a Bella, which seems to be fine. I also bought two comfort twins, which are terrible. They have 12 inches of brick hard foam around the circumference leaving only a small area of adjustable mattress. Within one day I knew I wasn't going to keep them. I called today to send them back and was told I couldn't send them back for 30 days. So they will sit in boxes taking up space for thirty days at my house? I think this is a terrible practice. If I had read this message board before I bought these beds, I would have gone elsewhere. I also am not a fan of their 888 number either. I pressed the warranty number and was put on hold for 15 minutes being told, you are number two in line and then you are number five in line. So I called their Greenville number and paid for my call, which is fine.

My husband and I have been looking for it for months, we are both disabled, we need a repairman to come to us. Every night I loose sleep, I go to bed 730 to 800 pm, by 1 or 2 am I'm blowing the bed up 50% of my normal and best number 65 to 70.
Our nightmare is gone for good. Had a comfortaire mattress . It reaked of rubber smells. Numerous attempts on our part to air out would help for awhile. At one time, the furniture store owner toke it back to air out etc., although he and according to him comfortaire officials were denying or minimizing any problem.
After 3 weeks we went back to store to smell it. Seemed OK. The mattress was reinstalled in our bedroom. We were excited to have it back and were sure all would be well. Into the second night, I woke up with one sinus plugged. I finished my night out in another bedroom. I woke up with a wide open nose. Tried again with a nap. That was the last time I slept on it.
My wife slept on it a few more nights. There was a rubber ora around her. Her body heat and our mattress pad (rated at only 70 watts) were apparently bring out more smell. Up to this point we couldn`t figure out why airing out in sun outside(top pad and top layer of rubber), putting baking soda everywhere... would only help for a short time. When it started giving her headaches she stopped sleeping on it. K. Kline Pandora, OH 11/13/09
