RE: DOLLAR RENT A CAR:
I experienced a very frustrating several days renting a car from this company. When I arrived at the dollar rental car counter on January 25, 2024, I waited in a very long line to pick up the car that I had a reservation was located at the Fort Lauderdale airport. At that time, after waiting online for a long time, there were not enough staff to service the people on the long line. As the line was slowly moving, forward there was an announcement made that the counter was going to be closing by 12:00 AM. leaving me and other folks wondering if we would get an automobile. However, when I was finally at the counter and was then informed there weren’t any gasoline cars available, and if I wanted a car, it would have to be an EV. When I entered the area to pick up the vehicle, I was told to go and pick out a car from the lot. I had no idea how to start the car, and I had no idea about how much or little charge was in the vehicle. There wasn’t anyone around to assist me as the lot was so busy with what little help was around to show me as. was I never in an EV before, and I had no idea as to the amount of charge that was in the car when I finally figured out how to start the car. It turned out that I only drove the car to the hotel I was staying at which was no more than 20 miles. The next morning, I had an important business meeting. Unknown to me I was driving with such a small amount of charge. I went on the internet to seek a place to have the car charged, and the places that I went to were mostly condominiums and they would not allow me entrance to their charging station. As I attempted to keep trying to locate one, I became aware that I could only drive a mile or so before the car ran out of electricity. I called the Dollar rental, and they informed me that they would send a tow truck to pick up the car. I was then informed from the person I was speaking to, that I had an important meeting which was the reason I came to Fort Lauderdale and had to drive to Delray to attend. I waited for the tow truck driver to arrive, and he did not come after my waiting more than one hour and a half hours. I was then transported back to the Fort Lauderdale airport in the tow truck and picked up a car as an exchange that was fueled by gasoline. I did miss the business meeting I was supposed to have attended. To make matters worse, I received an amount which was included on my charge card which was $507.96. The nerve for them to charge me $185.00 for he tow truck service. I do expect restitution for all that I have experienced from Dollar rental car company. I thank you in advance for helping me out from this issue.
Sincerely,
Stephen Alpert
