Security insulted by false checking
6th July 2023 7PM to 9PM EST.
We are two members purchased groceries and paid at counter (no self check-out) and at the store security guard specially checked us only at 377 burnhamtorpe rd E to show all groceries and without any suspicious behavior from us. This is really unexpected behavior at food basics and need to file a compensation for false allegation on us and couldn't find that we stool something.
He said that some one particularly informed by someone to check us and its really false allegation that he was not doing genuinely as his duty as well. If its a food basic security concern then it has to be improved by security measures rather than insulting some one at store by by checking the shopping language despite all the customers.
I really need a penalty to be charged and want to complain food basics head office and if no action taken then would definitely be raising this to Ontario ministry in one day. its really against individuals rights.
Desired outcome: I would like to know who particularly informed security guard to check us only and why he was instructed like that. At least needs apology from the person who insulted us.
Selection chicken wieners
I purchased a package of selection chicken wieners this week - Best before date Sept 04/2023 and on Thursday July 07/2023 I bit into one hotdog and immediately found a large piece of metal - I have taken a picture of it and attached same below - metal piece is beside the wiener package and I have also saved the metal piece. I bit into this metal fairly hard and could have possible damage to my teeth I am making a dental appointment for this month - outcome TBD
My name is Robert Gilmore and I live at 2333 Truscott Drive unit 1411 and my contact phone number is [protected]
Desired outcome: Please replace our contaminated product with a fresh packageIf teeth are damaged I expect compensation for dental costs
Green Grapes
Today I brought groceries at food basics, and after checking the bill I found two issues.
1. They scanned the chicken thighs twice, but I took only a single product moreover, on the box, a yellow sticker says the chicken is discounted to 40%, but I have checked the bill no discount is applied.
2. On the shelf green grapes I brought were discounted and overall I am saving around 6.7/kg dollars for a bag that has the original price of 8.77/kg, but I have checked the bill no discounts were applied. The reason I brought up the gaps is because of the discount, but I paid a very high price 10.39 dollars but on the shelf it say 0.99 dollars after discount.
Desired outcome: I need a refund
Timothy's coffee
I have gone to the Food Basics at Gerrard square yesterday in order to get a sale for Timothy's coffee at $10.99, they didn't have any and this was before 9:00am. I was told that the coffee would be re stocked tonight for tomorrow. I went in today, again before 9:00am, yet again, no coffee. So, either I was lied to or the coffee was all gone by 8:30am which means that I don't get to have the sale, but neither does anyone else.

I've been shopping at Food Basics in Port Perry for over a year. I have no complaints about the store or products. However, I do have an issue with one of the staff. I'm not sure what his name is (maybe Tim or Tom?) He's a tall older guy who likes to make a pass at me every time I shop at that store. I'm very uncomfortable when I see him because of the unwanted attention. Due to multiple incidents, I've decided to shop elsewhere to avoid him.
Desired outcome: I would like a supervisor or executive to take this complaint seriously. Please have a discussion with the employee to stop him from harassing female shoppers.
Treated poorly by manager
Two days ago on May 6 th 2023 I came shopping to the food basic at 199 simcoe st Keswick. I bought three oranges for 99 cents a pound as well as the rest of my shopping They were great so today I drove back there after work to get more. They didn’t have a there price sign up but I assumed they were the same price since we are still on the same week...

Manager food basics - woodland park plaza
Good day,
We are regular customers at your Woodland Park Plaza store. We did grocery shopping today, April 21st when we came to check out there was issues with your pay terminal multiple times.
It kept declining my card, after 3 attempts I asked the cashier to try a different machine as this machine clearly is faulty but your cashier kept insisting to continue tap as the machine’s been giving issues from time to time, again the machine did not work.
Another customer behind us then got impatient, extremely rude and started swearing at us, racially attacking us saying [protected]@$ck off to your country.
The Manager on duty tried to stepped in, did not ask once what the issue was, never apologized for the machine not working that caused the argument that took place in the first place, immediately took side of the customer in the wrong, asked us to leave the store multiple times talking over us when we’re calmly trying to explain to him the machine issue and that it needed to be fixed asap to avoid future fights amongst customers.
Your business and Manger of the store failed to meet the customer expectations in terms of overall customer service.
Sad to say I will never again return to this store for future grocery shopping.
Desired outcome: Address this issue with your Manager, he needs to model better customer service.
Flyer ads
Food Basics routinely advertises products on sale yet has no inventory on the products they list in their flyers. Specifically, but not limited to meat. Their flyer sales start on Thursday yet will have no inventory whatsoever as early as 8am the very day in which these items are on sale. In addition forget about rain checks the individual store Managers instruction their staff to never provide one. I’ve experienced this regularly in Brockville for the past 4 years. Simply put this is fraudulent.
Service
I attended the Lindsay store location today at 1:10pm (according to my receipt) Cashier 161.
After my grocers were rang through, I was paying by visa tap. The debit machine was not accepting my tap when I tried. I asked the cashier if she could put the transaction through the debit machine again as my tap was not working. The cashier refused and said “nope, it’s working on my end”. Kinda shocked I looked at my husband and he handed me his debit card to complete the payment. Neither of us spoke to the cashier or each other, as we put our groceries into the cart. The cashier turn and said “ you’re such a [censored]” to me. The customers behind me turned and looked at me and the customer in the next lane turned around and stared as she made the comment so loud I was absolutely mortified! My small children were right there listening to this woman curse. I said “ excuse me” she replied with “ what? you are”. Again just shocked and embarrassed that someone could be so blatantly rude! An employee calling a customer names! That was beyond humiliating. What kind of service is this, having staff out of nowhere completely unprovoked calling customers names.
Security and staff
March 17th 2023 at 1:30 PM I was arriving at the front doors of Food Basic 238 Wellesley Street and seen a incident happening just inside the entrance of the store. I stopped 3 feet from the entrance to focus on what was happening and seen a male security guard, a male employee assaulting a small female. Both males pushing and pulling on her and was confusing as i couldn't tell if they wanted her out or back inside. But the male security guard and male employee were very aggressive and ended with the male security guard throwing the female to the ground with a loud thud and then held her down with one arm on her chest while he reached for his cell phone and took a photo.
Security guards are NOT ALLOWED to interact with any physical touching whats so ever, same applies to staff. This was clearly an assault no matter what way you look at it.
Desired outcome: Education and dismissal
Red Grapes
Yesterday I bought a bag of red grapes from Food Basics in Rockland ON. There was an offer on it.
When I arrived at my home in Ottawa and started eating it. It was mushy a lot of the grapes were rotten.
I normally go to Food Basics when I want to buy high-quality fruits and vegetables. I did not expect that.

Food Basics 2900 Steeles Avenue East Assistant Store Manager: Jeff Assistant Store manager complaint. What a horrible manager, rude and just always with an attitude. Hello there, I bought a Selection brand garlic bread from Food Basics on Jaimeson Parkway/Franklin Blvd on March 10, 2023. When I opened it up and took it out of the package to prepare with cheese before putting it in the oven, I noticed a PENCIL WAS INSIDE THE LOAF, SATURATED IN THE GARLIC BUTTER! I have attached a photo with this email. I WOULD LIKE SOMETHING TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS. If I didnt open up the garlic loaf to add cheese to it, I wouldnt have known the pencil was even in there and would have cooked it. This is a serious matter and completely UNACCEPTABLE and DANGEROUS. I had my in laws over for a birthday dinner, and we could have gotten led poisoning, broke a tooth, choked on it, and not mention the embarrassment to me after having to show my guests why we couldnt have garlic bread with our dinner.
I am not returning the garlic bread back to Food Basics until I hear back from you.
I EXPECT A PROMT RESPONSE.
I contacted Metro because thats what the package said but they told me to contact Food Basics.
Thank You,
Crystal Campbell

I’m complaining about the manager who is working in 238 Wellesley St E Toronto ON M4X 1G2 Canada
Today at 8:00pm I went to my near shop food basics to buy a vegetable oil and it is 9.48$
So unfortunately I bought 10$ in coins so while I was paying to the cashier, the manager in food basics have been insulted me in front of the people that do not pay with coins in rich of her voice tone and I felt so so bad. if it is your rules then why are you giving the change back to customers in coins. I really didn’t understand this rule. If you did then it’s right but if the customer pay with coins is it wrong?. How can she scold a 17 year old girl in front of people. Ok alright if that was your rule just put a notice front of your shop then the customers will be knowing that coins will not be accepted in food basics.
(This happened in 238 Wellesley St E
Toronto ON M4X 1G2
Canada ) Learn to be calm with customers
This insulted be a lot and didn’t understand why the manager behaved like that
Oranges
I used to always check the bill when going to grocery stores as I found that about half the time there was a mistake on my bill. Always in the stores favor. Haven't done that in quite awhile until tonight. I noticed that the naval oranges were on at $1.48 per pound. When it went through the cash they came up at $4.28 per kilogram. I told them it was supposed to be the $1.48 /lb and they explained it away as that was the same as the $4.28 per kg. But it isn't. We argued for a bit until they sent the produce lad back to check. He came back saying it was $1.48/lb and $3.26 /kg. The checkout lad said he didn't know how to
change it so I refused to buy. I appreciate the availability of food in Canada but am tired of getting ripped off. I told the fella that everyone who has purchased those oranges has been getting ripped off too and don't even realize it. He just shrugged. Whatever! I will be checking from now on again every time. And whether its racist or biased or not-people working at a cash register should be able to handle a few math calculations.
The staff
On December 23 I was shopping at the food basic at Gerrard square when I witnessed a short girl who I believe is a supervisor or head cashier start being rude to another cashier a tall light skin girl and the cashier she was being rude to I have had help me many times she one of their best cashiers pleasant to talk to not like most of the other staff there so the supervisor of whatever this woman is was yelling at the light skin girl about throwing her coffee away and I hear the girl say that there was only like 2 sips left in it and she said to her I’ll give you the 2 dollars to get another one which in my opinion she shouldn’t have had her drink laying around anyway and all of a sudden I hear this girl that I think is a supervisor say to the cashier ya well I’m going to tell the manager your racist and I’m letting everybody know not one racial thing came out of the cashiers mouth so I’m still watching all this go on the girl goes to the manager and lies and next thing I see is the cashier getting called to the back and then coming back out because they fired her and the manger which in my opinion is a idiot telling other staff that work there not to talk to her and the manager kept threatening the cashier that if she talked to them he was calling police what a joke and all because this other girl that thinks she’s above her lied why don’t they worry about the staff that hang off each other a work kissing in the aisles and stuff in front of costumers but that’s ok it’s on works time I guess I’m so over that food basic on how they treat their staff let alone how half the staff treat costumers I will not being going back there they really need to stop and head office should send someone in that store undercover and see how this place is really ran cause in my opinion it’s a theee ring circus
Desired outcome: They should fire the girl that is the supervisor or head cashier that was telling lies cause their was enough witnesses there and seen what really happened and hire the cashier that actually does her job back
Staff assault
I am a regular customer at this location at Gerrard square at about 3pm on Sunday December 18 2022, a staff working in the flour section who refused to giver her name assaulted me with a huge metal rack and shoved it at me.
