Google Meet (original) Really?

This app does not cover the basic needs of a child in the 21st century.

1. Education
It’s pretty obvious that everyone needs education. You think your app is good? It’s not. Every child needs an education, and you are not helping the cause. Look at this generation of kids. It seems like you just want them to fall down the social ladder. It’s pathetic. Your “employees” couldn’t name one 3-16 year old child.

2. Language / communication
This app does not help solve basic communication issues. I know a few mute people, and they seem to dislike your app because of its inability to help disabled children express themselves. They want to be able to be themselves, and have fun doing it. Why do you have to drag them down, and prevent them from doing the one thing that makes them feel happy? Shame on you, Google.

3. Comfort and protection
This app has another major design flaw. It doesn’t allow for the help of the students without it. Already, two of the people haven’t been able to fulfill the image in the minds of themselves. If children want to have their own time and direction, let them. It’s not hard to just let the users view the reason behind it. You don’t have to do this, google. You don’t have to be the big corporation that doesn’t want the students having their own way. They want it to themselves. Stop it now.

Google Meet (original) Simples problemas

Hola!
Me doy a entender?
¡Muchas gracias!

Google Meet (original) I don’t like it

Hello! I have spent hours trying to get on to google meet and it will not let me create my own meeting! I’m not a student using google meet I am a person trying to use google meet to talk to my freinds! I am very disappointed of how many things I have to put in to just create my own meeting! It includes my bday emails gmails passwords and many more and it says online quick and simple not hard to use at all but I’m over here trying to figure out if it’s worth everybody who’s been working with google meet to see my personal things! And I’m very surprised that it asked for my ADDRESS! That is not safe for kids or even adults to put in there own address! Also why do u need my address that has nothing to do with google meet and talking with other people over computer phone or anything! I hope u upgrade it soon and realize ur mistakes because I’ve been trying to get into google meet for hours now just to talk to my freinds who live far away and I can’t even start my own meeting! Also if I put in a code for one of my freinds meeting it won’t let me in! My friend complained to me saying he can’t change that! Thank u for ur time for creating google meet for students teachers and other workers her own businesses but I except better for people who just wanna put in a simple password or code and start a meeting and hang out with there freinds!

Google Meet (original) PLEASE BRING BACK OLD UI !

SCREAMING and SHOUTING - please bring back old UI!

NEW UI is terrible:
- InVideo Calls it is not possible to see In-call messages window without obstructing video/shared screen content!
- mute/hang buttons re-arranged and made it worse!
-InVideo calls you can not see participant list without obstructing video/shared content!
- no possibility to arrange different layouts to see either one main participant/shared screen or mosaic with multiple faces.

This is similar r$$ish layout like the one that comes from Mail App, when call is initiated from Mail App.
So it was tested on the Mail app but instead of recognising shortcomings and making improvement it was rolled-out to sand-alone app - WORST decision ever!
NOT user friendly at all.
Developers decided to use some “out of the box” functionality which is not helpful but went ahead anyway. For example - in-chat messages open new window that obstructs everything, instead of developing a side-partial window that allows to see messages alongside the Video/Shared screens.

I’m advanced user with 30+ years of IT experience. Mostly working in software project environments with high level of collaboration where conferencing is essential. I know what I’m writing and understand the mistakes that have been made implementing new LESS-user-friendly layout compared to previous one.

Best luck!
K.

Google Meet (original) THIS APP STINKS!

As of writing this review, I am using meet, and I am in class. My teachers display is so blurry, I couldn’t tell you the difference between her eyes and her mouth. The audio is terrible, and when someone is presenting, my screen gets so laggy, it looks like a third grader’s flipbook. When a video is being presented, the mouths don’t match the words, and the audio sounds like you’re underwater and the sound is being turned up and down rapidly. The chat, oh God the chat. I can’t see ANYTHING when I am in the chat. When I type out a message in the chat, don’t send it, and then exit the chat, when I open the chat back again my message is gone! Also, it is very annoying to pin someone. It takes about 3-4 business days to find someone and pin them, and when you open the chat, you can’t even see them! There is no grid view, and even at the lowest volume setting, it sounds like my classmates are yelling in my ears. When you leave the meeting, you cannot rejoin! You must spend about 5 minutes looking for the link again in a message, google classroom, or some place else hard to find. Don’t download this app. I encourage you to try and convince your boss, principal, or organizer to SWITCH TO ZOOM! My brother uses it and it is 1000 times better. You are more involved, and you can actually see the math problems your teacher writes on the board.
Thank you for reading this,

Nick

Google Meet (original) Amazing tool for deaf & hard of hearing people - almost magical!

A good friend lost his hearing in 2010 following which he moved to Spain. We haven’t held a phone conversation since then and while text is fine and it doesn’t come close to speaking. We had tried video calls (he can now lip read) but quality was variable to say the least.

Google Meet just became free to use for all (May ) so we tried it out - those ‘magical’ moments when technology really impresses you are rare but this was one of them! We were conversing in the most natural conversation we’ve had in a long long time (just pace your voice for the best results). Better still, if you’re on a group call, he can now see who said what, which was something almost impossible via lip reading because you had to know where to look each time.

In a weird twist of fate, just as he is now able to talk to friends remotely, he has lost the ability to communicate face to face - Spain has made face masks compulsory (covid) so he is no longer able to lip read. The irony, though hopefully this won’t be for life.

Judging by the other reviews your experience of this app will depend on your goal. But from my perspective Google has just enabled free, natural conversation, for deaf and hard of hearing people anywhere in the world (with a smartphone). This won’t appear in any GDP statistic but can it materially improve people’s lives? Absolutely. Thank you to the Google teams that made this amazing feat possible

Google Meet (original) Cost me a Job

Before the interview, I’m doing good and feeling nice. Never done an online interview but I knew how to use google meet and so my confidence was pretty up there. I checked over the app just to make sure everything was good and then joined the call...instant audio loss. All that confidence? Gone. You know how hard it is to keep a straight smiling face while having absolutely no idea what’s going on because your audio shut off? Yeah, well I found out real quick. Plus the absolutely amazing anxiety disorder I have really REALLY helped in that situation. So after trying for a solid 2 minutes to unmute my audio and be able to hear them, I realized the app wasn’t going to let me prevail. So what did I do? I turned on the Close Captioning option and let googles horrible close captioning service tell me everything they were saying with a solid 6-8 second delay. Keep in mind if they were far away from their mic, slightly quiet, had background noise etc etc, close captioning wouldn’t work. The interview came and went and 1 panic attack later, I’m here writing this. Keep in mind I know how to use this app. Have used it for multiple different applications multiple different times. I tried every single thing I could to fix the audio and it wouldn’t work. Even now the app doesn’t work. I am absolutely disgusted by how this entire event played out and I warn everyone to be careful when using this app. They will fk you over just like they did to me. Thanks google!

Google Meet (original) Has issues

Hello, as a human bean as it says when captions are on for my class, there is a few issues I would like to report. One of the issues is captions, when captions are turned on stuff can be misunderstood, let’s say this...a girl named Emma was going into math! Emma put captions on. Emma’s math teacher said “homework will be due 7:00pm”. Emma’s captions say this “homework will be due in seven days”. So Emma was playing her games and then gets an email.
______________________________________________________________________

Dear Emma, I believe that you are missing the math homework for 6/23. Please remember to check your google classroom! Thank you.

From,
Mrs. example.
______________________________________________________________________

Emma doesn’t see that email and for the next six days plays cheerfully, Until she does her homework. In class they are learning something new and that involved the homework she just did! And they already went over it and Emma got some questions wrong! Her teaching asks her “did you read the email I sent you”? Emma answers “no”, then the teacher asks “well what we’re you doing all this time I wrote you that five days ago”? Emma answers “I guess I didn’t check my email sorry”. “Sorry doesn’t get the work done” she said.

Another glitch that happens is when your screen doesn’t work. That glitch is very annoying and hard to figure out what’s wrong. Or your sound doesn’t work.

Google Meet (original) Solid A/V, but too many UX “papercuts”

I have to use Google Meet on a daily basis because it is our company’s standard platform. Google Meet does a good job handling the audio and video aspects of the meeting. It is clear that the continuous improvement program focuses on that; e.g. after every meeting, a dialog pops up asking me to rank the audio and video quality. I don’t always respond, but if I do it’s generally 4 and 5 stars.
The irritations come with some of the user interactions. Some of them make me crazy:
- The meeting controls disappear and move around, especially at the end of a meeting. The “Leave” button shifts its position to make way for a notification that so-and-so left the meeting. This means that leaving the meeting from an iPad requires timing and dexterity with the stylus or finger. It inevitably makes me frustrated.
- Too many of the user controls “auto-hide”. See previous point for one of them. Another is how the list of users disappears when the iPad is positioned horizontally. I would really like to be able to see everyone who is in the meeting with me, and I only get that for a couple of seconds if I touch the screen. Then it auto-hides.
- No Grid View. In a web browser there is a grid view now, thanks to competitive pressure from Zoom. No such luck on the iPad app. If the iPad is positioned vertically, then you see the person speaking, and everyone else is listed below. But in that case, my image in the meeting is different from the others. The vertical orientation still keeps the image in essentially the same aspect ratio as in the horizontal view; why not allow the user to change the aspect ratio from portrait to landscape?

Google Meet (original) I’m sorry if you have to use this for online classes

While the computer version is somewhat usable, the app is horrible. And no, this is not one of those reviews put up because of my dislike of online classes. I’ll just list them below:
1. LAG. The lag is horrible, and it only gets worse with more people. You’ll find that the teacher (or the person speaking) will have the lips moving faster or slower than the audio.
2. The speaker cuts off. I often miss huge chunks of what my teachers are saying because their screen will just black out and the audio will cut in and out.
3. Hard to use. It took me a full week to figure out how to use this app at a basic level. There are things like pinning someone, muting someone else if they or their background is too noisy, which only works only 10% of the time anyway. But doing these actions is too time and effort consuming. Didn’t even know about the captions until someone told me.
4. Unwanted disconnection. More than once I found myself disconnecting and not being able to join for another 5-10 minutes. This even happened to one of my teachers, who was gone for the rest of class.
5. Limited options. I have three words: No grid view.
6. Horrible audio and video quality. I mean HORRIBLE. This is no exaggeration. It’s not so bad when there are less the 10 people. But having classes with more than twenty people, the video quality and frame rate DROP. I mean, a lot. The audio can also get unbearable to the point of it sounding like earape. And sometimes we have to take tests where the whole grade is involved and in one class. Oh boy, the teacher moves at like one frame per second.
Well that’s my list. I hope you learn something from this and not use it unless you have to for online classes or work. I feel Zoom is better in every aspect. If you made it to the bottom, congratulations and have a great day.

Google Meet (original) Great but needs added features

Google Meet has been great for group meetings and teaching classes. It integrates well with other G-Suite apps (like Google calendar, Google Drive, etc.). The chat feature and captions help participants communicate without trying to talk over one another. Sharing your screen is imperative! I also love how recorded meetings automatically save into a folder on Google Drive! However there are features that would be really helpful especially for teaching classes. 1) Being able to breakout into smaller groups in a Meet would be soooo helpful! In a classroom there are many times you want smaller groups to work on something while still having eyes on each group and then be able to bring them back as a whole group. 2) Ability to blur background - as we enter each other’s homes because of the need to take school online it would be helpful to not be distracted by everyone’s background (I.e. messy room or posters). 3) Shared Whiteboard - I suppose we could share a blank Google Doc but wouldn’t it be nice to have a whiteboard built into the app? 4) Raise hands and thumbs up/thumbs down feature - it would be nice if a participant could raise their hand while teacher is talking so teacher can address questions students might have along the way. Also a quick thumbs up to verify everyone understands something or is ready to move on. 5) a waiting room if host is not yet checked in - it would be nice if a Meet is not really live until the host/teacher is on (or at least to have the ability to choose whether you want participants to be able to see each other even if you are not there). Conversely once the host/teacher leaves it would be nice to know students are not just hanging around in your Meet even when you’re not there. We want to stay under the Google umbrella since we are a google for education school but it is very tempting to use other meeting apps that have these features. Please work on adding these features to make this app even better for teachers! Thanks for making Google Meet available for free to educators during these crazy times!

Google Meet (original) Three hours later

Please forward to someone that cares.

It took me TWO HOURS to figure out how to schedule a meeting.

It took me 30 minutes to realize that google meet is different than google hangouts: Very frustrating When I am looking for the promised features of google meet on Google hangouts.

It took me another 30 minutes to realize that Google had caused me to create a separate account other than my already established Google account. So of course I wasn’t able to find the Google meet icon underneath my already established account.

There is no “raise hand” option for the conference call or any intuitive way to mute the line of the callers. There is also no raise hand option for callers calling in or to mute/unmute their own line.

You have to think like someone that does not regularly use Google products or understand your waffle menu.

I wanted something to replace zoom because I wanted something that was more easily accessible to my clients.

But working at this for three hours just to schedule something and figure out how everything works is just not worth it.

You have no authorized tutorials on YouTube explaining the details of how to set everything up.

If you want this to be a viable option for business use you have to add a raise hand option and mute button.

You also need to add more options for the admin like the ability to change a users name to a nickname or to give them a different role on the admin page which you really need to do when there are more than 10 people on the conference call in order to keep you organized.

Some people also want to be private who are calling in anonymously to conference calls so they need the ability to change their own name as well.

Please do yourself a favor and hire someone who is already using Zoom and have them try to join your application and see exactly where they get frustrated.

It needs to be no brainer and so intuitive that it takes you through the process from top to bottom.

I shouldn’t have to be opening five different windows on my screen to complete different things and figure it out.

There should be a welcome tutorial and walk you through all of the options.

I love Google business app and I love YouTube.

Thank goodness you only do this after lunch because there is a lot of work to do.

I truly hope this is a successful and that I can come back to this later.

Google Meet (original) Online is good, app isn't

Google meet online is fine. With the grid extension, I can see everyone at once. Some features like highlighting whoever is speaking is great to have. Overall, I like the online version.
Now, I've only used the app once, but Jesus Christ it's a mess. When I started to present my screen, I literally couldn't stop. I tapped the stop button so many times but nothing happened. The thick sidebar is a nightmare, and I couldn't see everyone at once, which is extremely confusing and infuriating. Please oh please fix this god-awful interface. I haven't even used zoom but I already like it better. I have to make sure my computer doesn't stop working again, because if it did, I'd have to use this dumpster fire of an app. At least the online version is good.

Google Meet (original) Sub par functionality. Disappointing

If you have a lot of patience and some technical know-how, ok, you’ll make do, but for those not familiar with online meetings at all the app is abysmal (i.e. a seasoned kindergarten teacher).

The iPad/iPhone apps are beyond underwhelming. Watching and participating with my kids teacher, trying to work with this program, is extremely disappointing. Zoom really blows Meet out of the water in terms of functionality and usability. In meet the controls move off of the screen far too quickly, how to see all participants is unclear, pinning participants is complicated when the video boxes jump around the list, the presenter has a hard time muting and unmuting... the list goes on. It’s unfortunate that many school systems are required to use such a substandard application.

Google Meet (original) The app needs a lot of fixing

UPDATE: Thanks for the response, but keep in mind about screen share. My device is NOT old, so the quality shouldn’t be a problem. No, I am not rating this app because of school.

Let’s start off with video calling. The camera and the whole image is blurry. There is a lot of echo and when it “sounds good” the audio is behind. Sharing screen section is not good at all. As soon as I start it, I exit out of the app to show whatever is on my screen, but it stops responding in less than 5 seconds, plus the audio lacks a lot too. When you airdrop and invitation, it does say open in, but there is no option to open in Meets. App is a great idea, but not ideal.

UPDATE: Thanks for the response, but keep in mind about screen share. My device is NOT old, so the quality shouldn’t be a problem.

Google Meet (original) Should be able to see everyone at once. You can’t!

For some reason in this app you can’t see everyone on the screen at the same time. You can only see whoever the app decides to show you (whoever it thinks is talking, apparently), with little boxes on the side (and those boxes mostly don’t even show video, just a name or a picture, and they disappear after a few seconds unless you keep tapping them). Why not? You can on the web version, just not on the app.

The app would be great if you could see everyone in your group video chat at the same time. (I understand why if you’re a teacher, for example, you’d want it to only show one person at a time. But what about a group of people in isolation because of the coronavirus who just want to talk to (and see!) their friends? Not so good for us.) Seems like it would be an easy fix. Until then, I’m not interested in using it.

Google Meet (original) Frustration Station !

Crashes every 5 minutes. This makes it so difficult and frustrating to get any sort of work done.

UPDATE: According to the “internet speed test” the developer suggested I take, my internet speed is fast (download 41.9, upload 5.75) and should be able to handle “multiple devices streaming hd videos at the same time.” I am not terribly interested in hd videos, but rather in attending video chats on this very app, in order to not fail all of my classes. I would also like to thank the developer for asking if I’m “sure I’m connected to the internet,” which is a valid concern. To this I say: yes, I am approx. 112% sure that I am connected to the internet. This, combined with the fact that this app has a 2 star average rating, leads me to believe that the problem lies not with my own incompetence but rather with Google’s. I hope you can figure this problem out.

Google Meet (original) DEAR GOD, LET US MUTE OTHER PEOPLE

I am a student who is required to use this app by my school. It’s so irritating that we don’t have control over such a simple function. You know how in the browser version, you can just mute the tab? We need something like that for the app. My phone is my primary device for work since I no longer have a working computer. When I am required to watch a video for class or I wanna listen to music during independent working time, I cannot because I'm forced to listen key clicking and static from teachers who have unmuted mics. I am also forced to be listening to teacher-student conversations that do not involve me. I really do NOT care, and that extra noise hinders my work progress! And of course the only way to shut the call’s volume off is to mute my phone completely, thus taking away my ability to watch educational videos or listen to music. Please fix that. Thank you.

Google Meet (original) Did I do something wrong?

Did I do something wrong? Why is the camera on all the time from the start? Did I download a mirror app? Unnecessary waste of battery while doing nothing. Do I have to cover my camera since I have an app that initiates camera although not neded? Also it reminded another bug google has. There are too many junk/spam invites to my email. For some reason they automatically show up on Meet calendar. I don’t know these people. I have not accepted their invite. These people are not on my contact list. Shouldn’t be a requirement to be in my contacts to insert crap to my calendar? For this reason I had removed calendar a year ago. Now Meet brings it back indirectly, because google decided to push its calendar feature with the meeting feature. I don’t want them. I want to click on a link and join a meeting. That’s all. I mean I don’t want to joint a Meet, I just have to because somebody invited me...

Google Meet (original) Really upsetting

I am a middle school student using google meet to manage online classes. Today I was supposed to have a goodbye call with my drama class but for no matter how many times I tried to type in the meeting nickname to join meeting, it would say the code was invalid. I tried to troubleshoot, asking friends in the class to help me access it but I still could not get in. I tried accessing it on both a chrome book and mobile platforms. And the help bar on the chrome book version provided zero assistance. This application seems very dodgy in when it decides to do its job which is incredibly inconvenient for its purpose of scheduled calling. The meet is over now, and I was not able to join and say goodbye to my drama class which I am quite angry about. Perhaps the issue is on my end, but I would greatly appreciate a developer response to this, perhaps with some tips for troubleshooting next time. Thank you!

Google Meet (original) Eh

Google meet isn’t the best but it’s not all bad. Since I have to do online school all the time I don’t really have a choice but to download it. It glitches a lot and at first I used to think it was the device I was using so I switched to my iPad but its still is so glitchy. Google can do a lot better than this and I know it. It just needs LOTS of improvements. One thing I think you can do to improve it is to be able to chat privately with someone like zoom. Since there is already a chat, maybe consider letting people choose if they want to send a message to everyone or choose who you want to send the message to. Sometimes I try to get my teacher’s attention by typing in the chat but most of the time she doesn’t see it because everyone is coming at her with questions so I just think it would be easier to put an option where you can choose to send a public message or a private one. Please just make some improvements.

Google Meet (original) Really Buggy

This app has countless bugs. It sometimes echoes for no reason, sometimes it kicks people out of the meeting, sometimes it makes lots of noise for no reason. Occasionally it works perfectly but usually its terrible. Some adults or college students say it works well, but it doesn’t. Maybe they just have perfect internet, but when I sit in the room with the ROUTER, I still have issues. The way it flashes around is terrible. Sometimes I turn on captions - to try and understand what people are saying - the captions don’t work. At all! Better hope nobody in the world is death Google. It works all right with a few people, but if we get half the class, (roughly 10 people) it starts deteriorating. Google is an International Tech Company, you think they could make a decent app. But, NO. THEY CAN’T. I just realised it promises, “high-quality video meeting for up to 250 people,” it can’t even manage 20. The responses to the reviews are probably bots.

Google Meet (original) Don’t like the new layout

I love this app, it’s great for online school. But recently you guys have updated the layout for mobile, and now it looks terrible. You’ve also made working the app more difficult. Before, you could see yourself fully before joining, with the option to mute or turn your camera off, and now you’ve made the screen in which you view yourself before entering the call smaller. Now I can’t look at myself fully and adjust my appearance if need be, because I can barely see myself. Also, I now have to go through a series of steps just to pin a person, or look at the chat. And now when I’m in the chat, I can’t see the person I have pinned anymore, because the chat takes up the whole screen. Also when I accidentally leave the call, there is no longer an option to rejoin the meeting, which is very frustrating. Please fix this, I had no issue before, so I don’t know why you guys had to change it. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. You guys have completely went downhill with this layout.

Google Meet (original) SUPREMELY INFURIATING

Most of my teachers use Zoom as a meeting platform, but then this literature guy asked us to use Google Meet. It seemed fascinating at first, but everything went downhill afterwards.
Firstly, it takes so long just to enter a meeting, and Google Meet keeps blaming my internet connection. That is in a million years not my problem, because I have over 40 GB in my wifi modem. You better think twice before you start blaming users.
Secondly, within 5 minutes, I got disconnected from the meeting while my teacher was ranting important stuffs that might come up in the exam. When I tried to rejoin, guess what? Yeah, Google Meet blamed my internet connection again. To the developers, you guys really enjoy scapegoating, don’t you?
Thirdly, it always takes an eternity just to be able to see the host’s presentation. Then why did you even add the share screen feature in the first place if it is just going to malfunction?

If Google Meet wants me to give a better review, then give me a better experience with the app. It is that simple.

Google Meet (original) This app is great normally but PLEASE FIX THE SCREEN INACTIVITY FUNCTION!

The screen inactivity function where Google Meet will turn off your screen if you are not tapping your phone or tablet every half second. Google, please get rid of this function when the user is not in low power mode. I normally give 4-star reviews for one issue applications but this issue is just so frustrating!

Edit: I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app, and it is still coming up with this issue. I will try to list the “symptoms” as accurately as I can.

1. When in a Meet, unless I am actively doing something (talking, typing quickly, or moving tiles) the screen goes black.

2. Sometimes when the screen comes back, it comes on brighter than before, then resets back to the original brightness.

3. I have to use the home button to get the screen back on, and when it does come back I noticed that if I tapped twice, it allowed to swipe through my current applications (meaning that the app was still OPEN but may have been in some sort of standby state).

4. My phone was not on low power mode this time, and I don’t have auto lock enabled.

Google Meet (original) No tile mode on mobile

I decided to try Google Meet as an alternative to another popular web meeting tool that I couldn’t pay for any more. For personal use during covid-19 quarantine. I have not used for business.

My experience is that the layout is horrible on iPad! Horrible Terrible No Good Yuck. I don’t even want to think about trying on my iPhone. There was NO way to tile attendees video. So the results were that I saw waaaay to much of myself in full screen (not needed!) then flashing back and forth between attendees video so much and so fast and random that it gave me a headache. All I want to see is a nice tile layout of my friends faces. Adding that feature to the iOS (especially iPad version) would make this a 4 or 5 star app.

A lot of reviews mentioned issues with video and audio quality. I firmly believe that often has more to do with your own internet or cellular connection. However if any of that rests on Google infrastructure hopefully they will fix that over time as well.

There are also general ways the design of the app could be improved. But that is secondary to just needing tile layout!

Google Meet (original) A Useful Review that you should read

I use google meets both on my phone and on my chromebook for school. On my chromebook, it’s great; the audio is a bit choppy on occasion, but other than that it’s pretty much perfect on my chromebook. On my phone however (I have an iPhoneXR if that has anything to do with it), the screen will just randomly go black while I’m in a google meet. It doesn’t do this when I’m on any other app alone, (when you’re in a google meet you can go onto other apps and still hear the audio from the google meet while you go on whatever other apps, just like FaceTime.) but when I’m in a google meet, my screen randomly goes black for about 4-6 seconds about 4 times every 30 seconds. I can still hear the audio, and the phone doesn’t turn off because when it comes back on again it’s on the same screen it was before and I don’t have to enter my password again. While the screen is black, even if I tap on, say, a keyboard, when the screen comes back on, it didn’t/doesn’t register that I pressed any buttons. This is quite frustrating, as I am currently in a google meet and it has taken me nearly thirty minutes to write this review.

Google Meet (original) THIS STUDENT HATES THIS APP

This app is the worst. When I found out we were use google meet instead of zoom, I didn’t really care because my school uses a lot of google apps and they usually work fine but not this one. I DO NOT EVEN KNOW WHERE TO START. FIRST OF ALL, when I am in the meet I CANNOT SEE THE TEACHER’S screen and presentation ‍‍MOST OF THE TIME. SECOND OF ALL, the meet just RANDOMLY KICKS ME AND SOME OTHER PEOPLE OUT. When I come back to the meet and try to inform my teacher, THE TEACHER CAN’T HEAR ME so then I try to type on the chat, it either TAKES TOO LONG TO SEND OR THE MEET KICKS ME OUT BEFORE I CAN SEND IT OR IT KICKS ME OUT IN THE PROCESS OF SENDING THE MESSAGE. THIRD OF ALL, sometime when the teacher is taking attendance, Some people and I CAN’T HEAR ‍♀️the teacher so THE TEACHER THINKS WE ARE NOT PAYING ATTENTION. Know let’s talk about the raise hand button. Sometimes when I am raising my hand ✋ IT DOES NOT SHOW UP ON MY TEACHER’S DEVICE. When I try to put my hand down IT DOES NOT COME DOWN. THIS APP IS AWFUL. I FIND IT VERY HARD TO BELIEVE YOU GUYS WHEN YOU SAID THAT YOU TRIED TO MAKE IT BETTER FOT THE ONLINE STUDENTS. FIX YOUR USELESS APP .

Google Meet (original) It isa somewhat good app but it could be better

Let me start by saying I am glad there are more options other than zoom. Do I think this is a better app than zoom? No. It has the potential because it is from google but it needs upgrades. First, you need to make the connection better. If I am on a call sometimes that persons screen will only show their icon and not their face. Secondly, a grid view would make this app much better. Just to have the option to see everyone at the same time would make it more enjoyable than switching every five seconds because some kid dropped his pencil. I also think this could make it better than zoom; if you have the option to make a grid view where you do not have to scroll between screens that would be better. Lastly, if you want to make a good app, (which google has done many a time) you need to have options. The more options the better. If people want to see everyone then make it happen. If people want to see just their teacher, make it happen. I know that google can do much better than this, because they have shown me through google drive, google docs, and especially google classroom. I do like that you can mute and turn off your screen, but I know this app has the potential to be much better than zoom.

Google Meet (original) Has taken over my calendar w/o permission

I didn’t have this app, & as I have for years, invited someone to my appointment as I booked it into my calendar. This person drives me to medical procedures, & this is the simple way to do it, as I use my Gmail & Google calendar apps. When I was working, I used it the same way to set up in person meetings. However, now in my notes, a huge notification & link shows up stating that this is a video call! Why would I invite my driver to a video call? I didn’t even have this app installed at the time! I only installed it to write this review. In person meetings & appointments are still happening during COVID, as there are some things that HAVE to be done in person. The developers have set video meetings up as the default for ALL meetings no matter whether people have the app or not (even the person SETTING the meeting!), which is a bit of a boneheaded move. Please change it back, so you’re not inconveniencing & confusing every single person who is setting up in person, socially distant, masked meetings. Let people set the meetings for video calls from inside THIS app, and set it up so they show on their calendar, rather than for y’all calendar meetings to be video. I may try your app in the future, but this whole thing took something really simple & made it frustrating & time-consuming. Thanks.
