Green Dot return of funds

I set up an online bill pay through Greendot for $2000 to a private party. You can only send $1000 at a time so it was two transactions set up to be withdrawn on on 2/17/ and 2/18/2010. The person received one check for $1000 and the second check should have arrived the following day. I waited a week after it was due to be delivered before I called Greendot. On March 1st, I spoke with a representative and was told that they would have to do a stop payment and it would take 3-5 business days to be credited back to my account. I waited the 5 business days and did not receive any money, so I called them back on March 8 (Monday). First, I was told that the transaction was already reversed, and I should receive the credit some time that day. I waited and no money was deposited. So I called on Tuesday around noon, and I was told that a trouble ticket would be sent and I could check on it in 4 hours. When I got home on Tuesday I called again, this time I was told a ticket would have to be created. I explained to her that was already done early in the day and I demanded to speak to a supervisor. She put me on hold for 10 minutes then came back and said that the supervisor was busy and would have to call me back. I chose to hold, about 20 minutes later I spoke with a supervisor "Sam". Sam said they use a third party to process bill pay and they haven't recieved the funds back yet so he would need to contact them, I said he had 24 hours. I also called the person the check had been sent to find out who the third party was. The company was called Northern Trust, I contacted them and found out that the check was never sent out because it was believed to be a duplicate transaction and was stopped immediately on 2/18 (the day it was set to be sent out). When I called Greendot back exactly 24 hours later and again I was told that my case was closed and I should have already recieved a refund, I immediately asked for a supervisor. Sam/Henry answered again (He said this is "Sam" and tried to quickly change it to "Henry" ) said he needed to talk to someone in another department and I said I would be more than happy to wait while he did this he left me on hold for 40 min and then hung up. I just called again this morning and was told to give them another day. I was unable to pay a bill and I am now getting fees accrued. I have already filed my claim with the better business bureau and now I am contacting the arbitrator. I asked for a letter or statement from them explaining that the issue is on their end and I was attempting to pay on time. I want all of my fees paid by Greendot because they were the cause of them.

I hv been trying for almost a month to dispute two charges on my Green Dot card. I was charged TWICE by Fidelity Life for a pokicy that was cancelled in December. Every time I try to email or telephone, I have to jump through more hoops than a circus dog's act! Nobody knows anything about it--there's no record of it. I am so sick and tired of trying to reason with these people--especially when I'm not the one at fault. $89.20 might not mean much to them but it means a whole lot to me! You can rest assured that anybody everybody who will know what kind of company they're dealing with. The biggest mistake of my life was signing up with Green Dot!

Green dot is all about making as much money as they can, not customer service. After about 10 months of using the card every day for my daily transactions, they cancelled my card and banned me from ever getting another green dot card. I was using the card to keep my spending under control. Each week I would load my weekly expense budget ($500) on the card and only use the card for my daily expenses. I guess that was OK for 9 months, but I must have tripped a flag this week. The only reason I was using dot over paypower is I liked their website better. Next I'm trying the Western Union card.

I agree with the comment made by the original poster.
I have problems with Green Dot Cards as well.
I was helping a friend in trying to get to another state and he was having unexpected car problems, so I used my Green Dot Card to help him.
There were a lot of transactions (loading the card) made to help him and the locations would only allow him to withdraw 100 dollars as at time.
Green Dot Card closed my account, because they said I made too many transactions and they assumed that my intentions were up to no good, and saying that is not what the card is intended for, so they chose to lock me out from ever getting a Green Dot Card again.
I have not gone to arbitration about this because I do not have the money to pay the arbitrator.

In addition, the assumption made by Green Dot Bank/Corporation of thinking that the multiple transactions made by a customer in loading the card so many times, were up to no good, it can easily set themselves up for actions defamation of character against a customer.

I am a college student majoring in criminal justice and I do not take to insults very kindly.
I am majoring in criminal justice because I am tired of criminal activities and I look to be in the position to stop criminals in their tracks.

People or Corporations that assume things about others makes a person suspicious, because they have not taken the time to investigate what is really going on with a customer and why he is engaging in certain activities that are not against any laws.
There is a term called (mens rhea) the purpose or intent that a person is doing an action or deed.
People make assumptions about others and then acting upon them, or taking the law into their own hands can get in a lot of trouble.
Green Dot Bank should have contacted a customer and asked him what was going on before they made their assumption about the customer's actions of loading the card so many times.
It takes just as much time to make their decision on a matter as does to contact a customer on a matter, and maybe even less time to do so.

In addition to being a criminal justice major I believe in helping others if or when I can.
Again, what Green Dot Bank has done can easily be classified as defamation of character because they acted without investigating, nor tried to contact a person in order to find out what is really going on.

Another thing, in Got Dot Banks implied disclosure agreement, of which, is in the package containing the card and cannot be opened until after purchasing the card.
The customer does not have the chance to read anything printed on the card until after the purchase is made, twenty five dollars to be loaded on the card initially. That does not allow for the implied disclosure agreement to become valid, because the customer cannot read the agreement until after the purchase is made. .
In the implied disclosure agreement, Green Dot Bank works to allow for customers to appeal the decisions made against by way of an arbitrator in determining if the customer acted in good faith or not while using the card.
However, that does not address that fact that Green Dot Bank in their decisions can become that of defamation of character against a customer.
Another thing, many of the clauses in implied contracts are not valid because many times the clauses themselves are not constitutional in nature, clauses that work against laws that are meant to protect consumers.

Green Dot crediting unauthorized charges to customer

i've been a customer of greendot since 2005 or 2006. throughout the years, i've had a history of months of a few dollars in reload, to months in which i made a modest amount of reloads. the month of January 2010 has been a bonanza--in the dollar amount i've loaded into my card--roughly $6900! followed by February in which i've so far loaded nearly $2000. which is why i'm more so aggravated to be sitting down at 4:30am writing a letter to collect a mere $143.49!

on January 31, 2010, having loaded $400.00 onto my card, i ordered food from a chinese restaurant for about $16, paid for a hotel room. for about $73, and was shocked to be declined when i tried to buy gas later that day due to lack of sufficient funds!

when i checked online, i noticed 4 UNAUTHORIZED items PENDING:

3 charges for $75.00--from an arco gas station from which i'd only made a purchase of $23.00

a charge for $143.00 from a walmart in lancaster, ca--a place i've never been in my life!

i promptly called greendot and reported it a a theft! i told them i wished to press charges and have the perpetrator arrested. i also asked that the money be CREDITED to my account immediately! i was told it could not be done then--since it was still pending--that i should wait till after its posted to ring back, that it would then take 3-5 days for it to be credited. i requested a new card and asked for fast delivery, since i was staying in a hotel.

i was told to load $30 onto the card to cover the fedex OVERNIGHT charges. i got the card AFTER FOUR DAYS! what was the point of paying all that money--if the mail took as long as regular mail? i asked repeatedly if i'd get it overnight and was told yes. it was sent Sunday--so i thought...Monday--Tuesday tops...did not get it till Thursday! this ended up costing me $73x3 (nightly rate for hotel) since i couldn't very well go home let my card be received after i'd checked out!

after the charge to walmart was posted, i called back and had the most horrendous experience with greendot to date! nobody i spoke to seemed to fully understand me; they'd be stuck and repeat a phrase over and over--whether or not it reflected or concerned what i was saying. when i asked to speak to a supervisor, they'd put me on hold till the dial tone came on. when i asked to speak to a supervisor on american soil--who speaks english as a FIRST language, they simply hung up on me!

my level of frustration got so high, i became afraid for my health, (i have very high blood pressure) so for 2 weeks, i steered clear of calling greendot...when i finally called, i was told first that they couldn't help me b'cos the charge had been posted--meaning the merchant now had the funds, so it was out of their hands--that I SHOULD CONTACT WALMART MYSELF AND TRY TO EXTRICATE MY STOLEN MONEY FROM THIER CLUTCHES!

i went totally nuts and said no way--that i'd waited for it to post because i was told BY GREENDOT--that only then, could my money be credited to my account...i requested they retrieve the recording of my calls (don't they always say they're recorded for "quality assurance"?) to prove that greendot reps, did indeed say so. he acknowledged that was indeed, the policy--wait till it posts, then have your money credited into your account--something i'd done many times before--find an unauthorized charge, call greendot and its credited in a few days?

why has this been sooooooooooo problematic--and in a month that i loaded more money onto my card than ever? i asked and i'm asking...why is it that i never saw those $75x3 to arco--$225 (which had been SUBTRACTED from my total CASH balance) in the CREDIT column of my card statement.

in a world where even the tiniest mom and pop shops are going green and paperless, why won't greendot EMAIL me records from my OLD card which i no longer have access to, but very much need for my records and taxes?

why am i the one going through all these headaches, when according to your policy and employees, i did EVERYTHING i should have done:

i reported the theft and requested credit SAME DAY it occurred.
i called back after it was posted--when i was ASSURED it would be a matter of days till i got my money back.
i requested a cancellation of the old card and ordered new one--at an expense to me.
i requested an investigation and let it known i wished to press charges.

having done all this, why am i having so much difficulty retrieving my hard earned CASH, when the thief who stole it had such an easy time using my card WITHOUT being in possession of it, WITHOUT my identification and authorization? isn't it greendot's REPONSIBILITY to make it MORE DIFFUCULT FOR THIEVES to steal from its customer's card? why does greendot expect me to contact walmart and investigate by myself?

why can we no longer speak to americans or english speaking staff IN AMERICA DURING BUSINESS HOURS--9-5PM? i mean, i understand outsourcing calls AFTER business hours, but not 24/7! this has led me to lose confidence in greendot--as if going offshore is one step closer to its bigwigs soon taking all our CASH and bailing to some exotic offshore company, where they can't be touched by the US.

that's why i've put LESS money on the card this month--and depending on how this letter is handled, why i'll be taking my business elsewhere--it seems clear its not appreciated by greendot. finally, due to my negative experiences with greendot lately, i have decided to warn other unsuspecting prospects by posting this letter--as is on complaints board dot com--check it out...you'll find i'm not the only one complaining about your poor services>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

http://www.complaintsboard.com/?search=greendot&everything=Everything

If you wish to dispute a transaction that has posted to your statement

i unequivocally DISPUTE the transaction made at walmart lancaster on January 31 2010 in the amount of $143.49. i did not make the charge, did not authorize it, have NEVER been in that city AND CAN PROVE IT!

I HEREBY DEMAND THAT THE SUM OF $143.49 BE CREDITED TO MY ACCOUNT AND THAT EXPLANATION BE GIVEN AS TO WHY$225 FROM ARCO ON SAME DAY HAS NEVER BEEN SHOWN CREDITED TO MY ACCOUNT.

if this is not handled to my satisfaction, i shall call upon dateline nbc, 60 minutes or 20/20 to investigate your practices.

My first call to dispute charges, I told customer service to cancel my card immediately.. A week later found card not cancelled and new card not on the way. As these are reloadable debit cards, company may purposely try to take advantage of their customers. You should record your 1st and all subsequent calls. Print off call dates, times, and duration( avail on cell and voip phone calls). Out the company that has such shoddy business practices. For instance Greendot manages accounts for other companies. Not only would I cancel my account, but let Walmart, Best buy or any other company involved with the card know why I am cancelling. Also, make a complaint with the FTC. They would track if a company tends to so this often (business as usual). Of course Better Business Bureau. When writing a letter put as much info as possible. No account info if account is not yet closed (which you should confirm). That way you can tweak the letter for mailing. My reloadable card may not be the same, but as they have "standards, " we also. By the way keep track of any further losses. If any after notice to company to shut down your card.

@A.Della - This is almost similar to my experience with green dot and an unauthorized charge fro $113.56. I had an old DirecTV account, closed for about 3 months. In fact that old account with DirectTV had an expired card in its records and was not authorized to auto charge. I found that the card was charged $113.56 becasue when I went ot go use it, it came back declined. So I look online and found that the charge was posted, but not processed. So I called immediately and disputed the charge. The CSR was friendly and helpful and said that the money would be back on with in 24-48 hours.
About 24 hours later, all of the money I disputed went back on the card. I used it again several times, and then I tried to use it at a gas station and it came back declined. I called again. This CSR was also helpful, and said that it was a mistake, and that the accounting department would put it back on the card by midnight that evening. As a safety measure, I also emailed a complaint to Green Dot, and received a canned response to call the customer service number. 24 hours went by with no movement back to the card, so I called this morning.
Now I get another story. The CSR informs me that the DTV charge was paid and that I needed to now take my dispute up with them. I am really at a loss for words as I clearly told them the charge was unauthorized, and made on an expired card. Then the CSR kept telling me that they could open up a dispute for the charge, to which I told her, I did that already back with the first call that lead THEM to put the money back on the card.
I asked to be elevated to a supervisor. I was transferred to a CSR supervisor that just did not seem to give one [censor] about anything. I explained it all again to him, to which he started to repeat the runaround line of - We can open up a dispute for that charge if you like. So I run through it again, and he tells me that they paid the money to DirecTV because they ran the charge through again.
Now I had him in a direct lie. I removed the bad card information from DirecTV (Remember the card on file was expired), and my transaction history shows no new charges from DirecTV. It shows all of the other declined charges, but DirecTV was not on there. So I put a stop to all conversation with that supervisor. I told him that I caught him in a lie, and that I cannot trust a single thing he tells me, and to please elevate me to his supervisor. Well surprise, surprise... he was apparently the call center commander and there was not one to elevate to right then. I asked when I could call back, and he said tomorrow.
This is still unresolved, I know that it is only $113.56, but I want to know that if I am going to use this card to store money, that it is going to be protected, and when I dispute something, they will side with their customer, not a merchant. They need to have someone in that call center that can make a decision.

Green dot and Account Now are part of Meta Bank
You are actually dealing with Meta Bank by using one of their pre-paid bank cards.
I wonder why whenever there is a complaint about one of their products on the Complaints Board Site that that an ad for one of their products also pops up on that same page?

Does that not seem strange to direct you to the very same product that you are complaining about and so frustrated with over having had such awful service with only moments before to try to get you to buy more of the exact same thing?

This is so bizarre to me.

Green Dot card stolen and could not stop card from being used

Got a visa gift card and my wallet was stolen. When I called Greendot.com to stop the card they had no info on my card. I had to activate it with many questions on the phone. It was a $1oo gift card. I think they should have been able to stop it with all the info I gave them. I will never buy one of their cards again.

note it was a visa gift card you complaint is with visa gift card service most stores carry these cards and have no access to the cards they passed your info to visa but in most cases if you are the original purchaser you need to go to visa with a copy of the recept and see what can be done if the card was given to you ask the giver to contact visa or give you a copy of the slip these type of cards are new and still being worked on if you wish to give a gift card as a gift get a dept store gift card or just give cash in 5 years new rules and safety issued will be put in to play till them becareful what time of card you buy and read carefully your rights which no one does and ends up suing the wrong firm

Green Dot check in the mail

I received a check in the mail for the amount of $958.22 with the promise of another check. All I had to do was send in a commission to a woman named Marilyn Ritchie! This is a scam and I hope that she or the people who are responsible for it get caught a prosecuted. I am keeping my check just in case it is needed to help put the devils in prison! I had applied at the company they used (Greendot) so at first it seemed like the miracle we had been waiting for. But I knew better then to do what they asked and found this site. I am so glad that others posted here! The scam is using a different bank now. Mine was wrote on Banco Popular and it was supposedly from McDonalds French Fry Trust. A grant that i had applied for supposedly and finally qualified for! Whatever! I hope that this post helps catch the individuals that are ripping the hope right out of good honest people!

Green Dot can't use card

Has Anyone had this problem with a green dot card? I bought a card and tried to use it at a redbox kiosk. The reader will not read the card. I looked at the back and where there is normally a black strip on a credit or debit card is a gold strip. It can't be used at any card reader when making a purchase. I called customer suuport and of course got India. Needless to say, it's hard to get them to understand normal english. After explaining all this to them, they said I damaged my card. I said no, it was this way when I got it. After arguing/explaining for quite awhile, they said they would send me a new card. The new card is exactly the same. No black strip. I was going to try email to explain the problem but they just referred me back to the 1-800 number. Anyone heard of anything like this before?

I have been using my Greendot at the local Post Office to purchase money orders for my rent for the past 6 months with no problem. This month I went and my card was declined. I assumed it was too close to when my direct deposit went in, so I waited to try again the following day, same results. When I contacted the CS for Greendot, they said I couldn't use it for that, and would need to go to Wal-Mart and buy a MoneyGram from them. I explained that I have been using it right along, and they told me there must be a problem with my card. After several minutes of arguing they put on a "supervisor" who continued the argument, explaining that I never should have been able to use it for that purpose? I got really heated and told him that I don't support W-mart and will not under any circumstance even walk into a store, let alone make a purchase of anything. All he could say was "Sorry, that's what you have to do". No other option, no explanation as to why it won't work now when it did before, notta. Nobody ever contacted me to say I was using it wrong, nor does my contract say I have to go to W-mart for anything. Now instead of walking 5 minutes to the post office, I'm supposed to get a ride 10 miles to the w-mart to pay my rent? Ridiculous I say. This is a Visa card that is accepted everywhere a regular Visa is accepted, except the post office for a money order. The CS department sucks, I had talked to at least 5 different people over 2 days, not one spoke fluent English or could explain why the sudden change to my card. I asked them to look into why and have a tech contact me, they wouldn't. I asked for a manager to call me, they didn't. I will lose this card as soon as I'm back on my feet as it no longer suits the purpose I had purchased it for . . Greendot sucks!

I read somewhere the you have to wait until the permanent one shows up in the mail to be able to use it at Redbox, ATM's, etc. I too tried to use the one I bought at the store in the Redbox, and the card was declined. I just got my permanent one with my name on it (and billing zip attached, which I think is what you need) so I'm gonna try again next time I go by the Redbox.

maybe you don't know what the procedures are, my green-dot card is used anywhere, use it as a debit card, when you sign up for the card, you can choose your pin code by phone or online, also you have to buy green dot money-pak and enter the activation code on your green-dot account online, very simple.

Green Dot rip-off

I purchased a greendot card from CVS last week. I went on line to register it 3x and could not be processed because "they were having difficulties with the site and to try later". Of course, I kept getting the same message. I called several times, tried several options to try and register my card (having thrown out the part of the package with the activation number) which by the way, I don't even remember seeing. I then tried to contact a real person, well forget that. No real customer service, just the automated thing. I looked on their site for an e-mail address to contact them, once again, no e-mail contact! Only a mailing address. I will write but I'm doubtful I will ever see my $20.00 again. Thank God I didn't put more $$$ on it. (I almost did). I think this is a scam and they bank on people like me not following up for $20.00. Can you imagine the amount of money they are making? BP

Green Dot difficult to use

My 14 year old son purchased a green dot moneypak at walmart a while back. He lost the receipt which you need to activate the card and now we can no longer use the card which was 4. 95 to activate along with 50. 00 dollars added to the card for a total of 54. 95. I phoned moneypak and they can't help us. I then called walmart and they too said they can't help. That's a loss of 54. 95 for us and a gain of 54. 95 for moneypak. What a scam they've set up. It's preying on those people who lose the receipt. : (

You don't need the receipt -- you just need the reloader pack.. Throw the receipt away -- flip the reloader pack over (that thing you bought for $4.95 or whatever they charge for them now), use your thumb or a coin (quarter works best) and scratch where it says to scratch (you know, like a scratcher lottery ticket)... that will reveal your money code (or whatever they call it).. then just log into your account and you can use that code to load the money onto your green dot card. Not difficult... You can also reload via the phone using that code and their automated system... Simple. Not a scam.

My MoneyPak card won't load. MoneyPak 800 number does not recognize the number. Cannot talk to a live person. PayPal no help. MoneyPak cannot verify address. I requested a refund after two hours of frustration. PayPal needs another company to load money onto its site. This has been a nightmare!

Moneypak is a scam... I purchased a card for 300 bucks to transfer to paypal and it wouldnt transfer! I called money pak 5 times and they couldnt help me. they told me to call paypal so i did but they couldnt help me. Its suppose to be convenient right? That is the whole point. Well, nobody could help me so they issued a check to me and took my $4.95. I didnt even get to use it. Now I have to wait 7-10 business days to get my money back... What a scam and a rip off!

Same thing happened to me yesterday. me and my wife went to walmart to buy groceries once at the cash register i added a moneypak of $25 to use on ebay. Anyway, i did not read the back of the CARD until we got home and realized i threw away the receipt, i mean how many of you keep the receipts of the groceries? after google search of my issue i found this site and readring all this posts i think i'm screwed, unless like one of the posts says Walmart can print me out a receipt if i take my card to them. I'll try as posted and come back with an update.

Are you talking about the card that comes with the original package? You can use that card until your new card (it will have your name and card # on it)comes. I don't understand how you were not given a receipt though, every time I go to put money on my card the store always gives me a receipt. However, if you still have the packaging that the card came in that can also be used to register your card online. If you don't have the packaging then maybe if you go to the store that you bought the card from they can help you but if not then you really did pay for nothing and that sucks.

I disagree with you all. Why do they give you a card when you can't make use out of it? Why can't the CARD number be on the CARD?

In my case, I was never given a receipt, and now I have this worthless card. I paid 34.95, and now I have nothing.

Yeah, I have to agree with the others on this one. That was really due to negligence on your part and your son's part. However, it seems weird that Walmart wasn't able to get you copy of the receipt unless you didn't bring in the MoneyPak. The Walmart's here in my area of Florida can reprint a receipt from the UPC code off the back of the MoneyPak. You could try that and if that doesn't help you then you should get a refund for the MoneyPak since the store shouldn't be able to dispute you having bought it there even without a receipt. Good luck in your pursuit of getting your money back.

Green Dot used a minors name

My daughter received a credit card in her name. I have tried every number on the card encloser form. I could never speak to anyone. It was strictly automated. When I put the acct number and SS # in, the automation kept telling me it was invalid. Finally, after researching I found the number to their directpay line, [protected]. Got to speak to someone I could barely understand because of his accent. I explained that she was a minor. He said the account was closed but there had been transactions but he could not give me any of this information without my daughters consent. I again explained she was a minor and that I was concerned that someone was using her personal information. He refused and I requested a supervisor. A women with a heavy accent answered and refused. I truly believe this is a scam. We are trying to place scam alerts on ou daughter's information.

Green Dot total scam

All beware! I purchased a pre-paid master card from green dot and four days later I went and tried to purchase a green dot visa with the green dot master card and I was not trying to transfer funds, all I wanted to do was buy one as a gift. Iwas told I was told that I was not allowed to buy any kind of gift card from any where. This green dot company is trying to tell me how and what I can buy. This is rediculious. I do not understand how they can tell me what I can and can not buy. There should be no way that this can be legal. It is my money so how can the green dot company do this? Please all beware of this company I do not recomend anyone use green dot pre-paid anything!

Hi I'm Dxxx Fxxxxx

I went to Walmart to cash my check. Showed I'd and put into their terminal my Social security Id. number and cashed my check and loaded $100.00 onto your greendot card.
Seems your company placed a block the same day which I was not aware of. So I called your call center. They demand I fax my id's to their California 866 number.
Thou i explained that i showed my Id at time of purchase.
I have received in my postal mail at my address the personalized debt card
Your terms can request verification of information
They can unblock the card to let me use it since it is a Personalized Card you sent to me up to the amount on the card, according to the terms.
The suspicious activity reason given to me seems bogus as the card was evidently blocked the same day.
I am willing to bring my id's BUT not copy them and send them over the internet to some unknown fax number, and because, for the criminal NASA to have access to that private information stored on their servers forever, to protect my privacy.
Again I will go to any facility in my home town including a law enforcement or attorney office and have them call you/ you call them and I will show my I'd to them to verify.

This is a reasonable action on my part.
Otherwise please refund my money of $100.00 asap to my address of
Xxxx xxxxx ave, xxxxxxxx, IA, xxxxx
Thank You

I purchased A Greendot MasterCard at Walgreends (Paying $50.00 cash plus the $4.95 fee) as a gift to my son.
The card package says one can use the Temp card after calling the 800 number, and waiting no more than an hour. However, when he went to use the card, there was no money "on the card."
Calling Greendot for help is a joke! Their computer just sents you round and round. After two hours tying, I got a human who said I would have to fax all my paperwork to them and they would call me back in two days! They called back and left a message to call them at another 800 number that one has to try to get passed the computer to get to a human. When I got to speak to someone, I was first told the paperwork (All receipts I sent) were useless in finding out why the money was not on the card. I then said I would take the problem to a higher level-now the card was found and they said the money was now on it! But, next day, card still shows a "0: balance.
I have now filed a complaint to Walgreens.
Buying a Greendot card is a gamble!

You should read all terms and condition before buying the product. Green dot cards works for people who actually know how the card really works. Make sure that you're purchasing the correct package because a lot of times you tend to buy the incorrect package. Most of the irate customer about this product are proven that they have committed the mistake and not the company. There are merchant that greendot doesn't deal with for security reason. By purchasing the product, you are entering a contract that you accept all terms and condition applied by the company. So please make sure you you know what you're doing before complaining...

We truly apologize for the inconvenience. Green Dot has experienced significant fraudulent activity when credit and debit cards were allowed for the purchases of Green Dot products. In order to minimize this fraud exposure, losses to our company and to allow us to continue to offer our customers the best possible pricing Green Dot requests retailers not accept credit or debit cards of any kind, including Green Dot cards, for the purchase of Green Dot products. We have done our best to communicate this to our customers by including the statement “Cash Only” on our new card packages.

Additionally, we would like to clarify that Green Dot Prepaid cards are personalized reloadable financials tools that require customer identity verification and are not gift cards. Is it important you understand this distinction so you can provide the best gift for your intended recipient.

Green Dot green dot moneycard

My children received a Walmart GreeDot Money card for Christmas and were real excited, but that is when the excitement ended! These cards should be outlawed. To use these cards you MUST use your social security number and it takes 7-10 days to activate before you can use them, tell that to a 10 year old boy. Walmart says these are not their cards, but it has their name logo on it and they accepted this company to seel their product, so they should take some responsibility, but they won't. We asked for refund (with receipt), they said NO. We asked to exchange for items or their own store card credit, they again said no! You must read the humdreds of complaints on the internet abou these cards, they are not favorable. So, we threw these cards in the trash just as Wal-Mart likes. Beware, READ the fine print before you buy these cards for anyone to use. This is the first bad experience I had with Wal-Mart and hope it is the lasts. Shame on Wal-Mart!

We do apologize for your experience and the misunderstanding with our product. Our cards are reloadable prepaid debit cards and not gift cards. They are financial tools that are meant to be used over and over again. We have made every effort to clearly disclose on the package that these are not gift cards and that personal information is required to activate the card. Additionally, there is a temporary card included in each package that can be used immediately upon successful activation and until the permanent card arrives in the mail. We understand our card may not be for everyone and customers can request a full refund by calling the number on the package.

We will send you a direct message to assist you with processing a full refund for your cards. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Green Dot strees

I just wanted to get the card and pay my dishnetwork bill. The cashier at rite aid told me the card is activated to use. So I called dish and waited for 20 mintues and tried to make payment. I was told the card was declined. I went back in store and the store manager told me no refund even though the receipt does not state no refund on green dot card and have to get money back from greendot. I called them and message kept on saying to enter number. Finally I fumbled through different option and was asked all my personal information etc and finally someone came on line and told me while it is being activated she told me about promotions etc. I snapped back and told her that this is the last time I ever use the card. Please spread the word. The company is so sad that it does not even have a complain form online. We are the only one who can teach this #ers a lesson. Stop getting card. And when I went back in to add more funds the fees had to be paid again.

My dear, it's a pre-paid CREDIT CARD. They need all that info they are required by law to get that info from you... ANY company offering a pre-paid credit card or regular credit card will ask you all that info. The law has them do all that because of the attempts of money laundering people do with them... Think about it, if they didn't ask people could funnel money from point a to point b with no problems -- of course a lot of people would just pay their bills, but there are those who would use it to funnel ill gotten gains... I have a green dot card, have had it for years. Not a scam. I use it every month.

I fully agree. I bought a Green Dot Moneypak card and tried to activate it but the number is nigh impossible to find! I HAVE the receipt AND the card. Problem is, the card says to use the number on the receipt, the website says to use the number on the card...and NONE of the numbers are being accepted. (Despite saying they're open 24/7, the phones are apparently only manned by useless robots who cannot help you, and tell you to call back during OFFICE HOURS). So, after fumbling through the website with almost NO clear instructions on it, I found a different phone number, which is their help line, and guess what? THEY are closed too! I hereby declare a lifelong boycott of Greendot Moneypak on my end, and will recommend to all my friends and relations to NEVER EVER use Greendot for anything, as well!

Green dot is a total fraud! They offer you 0% absolutely no protection! Never use them always choose a secure sender like western union, paypal. Etc. Once you have paid with green dot you have no protection or room to dispute anything! You have no proof that you paid for something and no recourse if you have been ripped off. Again never ever purchase a green dot money pak. They should be ashamed and shut down for such poor business practices. A contributer to fraud like green dot will not be in business long!

Green Dot greendot premier card

My GreenDot Premier card expired at the end of October 2009. About two weeks prior to that, I was supposed to have received a replacement card. At close to the end of the month, I called Green Dot (which isn't easy; you have to jump through a few hoops before you can talk to a human being), got someone with a thick foreign accent to whom I asked the question, when is my card coming? She said you should have it within a few days. Well, it never came. I called again, reported the card as never having been received, was told it would be taken care of. Another 10 days went by. In frustration, I bought another card and had all sorts of problems activating and using it (finally straightened out yesterday, November 24, after finding out that the two previous customer service reps I spoke with had both entered the wrong date of birth and failed to correct it after I complained; finally, one of them had me activate the card by using the wrong date). I asked for the 3rd or 4th time about the replacement premier card and was told that the previous 2 or 3 people I'd spoken with on the other occasions had never reported it lost. So now the card is supposed to come tomorrow. I'm not holding my breath. Not only is this company difficult to deal with - you have to report your card stolen before you can even talk to a rep, and even then you must know the card numbers - every rep you speak with tells you a different story and half the time their accent is so thick that you can't understand them (and sometimes they can't understand you either). I've signed up with a different company and am hoping I will have a better experience. These people are so slipshod, three people are not able to handle a simple customer service matter, they can't get your date of birth straight, and forget the damned website, there is no help there at all. A lousy company taking advantage of people like me who can't open a bank account because the banks unfairly charged me with huge overdraft fees, refusing to waive them even though the original problem was not my fault.

Well basically the card was sent out from their facility because you were informed that ir;ll arrive 2 weeks prior to the expiration date. Sometime the problem lies with our Postal Service. Mails aren't coming on time or they are lost on transit. We should not blame them for this mess. With regards to the representative with thick accent, well we all know that most of US companies nowadays are outsourcing from foreign countries to cut on their expenses.I hope everything works well with your card

LOL! My wife and I just received one of these scam checks in the mail and I just notice on top that it says, "CHAHIER'S CHECK" not cashier's check. What a maroon...

My check came today, for %965.33. Asking for 4.07% ($407). It is also from Marilyn Ritchie. Supposedly mine has N & W Enterprises on the check, too. (Under signature) I even looked to see if N & W Enterprises exists. I found nothing on that company at all. It's from MoneyGram Payment Systems, Inc. PO Box 9476, Minneapolis, MN 55480. I was suspicious, to begin with. after searching & finding this site, I'm more than convinced it's fake. I'd suggest making a copy of the check & letter. You can then contact the FBI & send them a copy. If we all do this, then the scammer may just be caught.

I am a long time mortgage professional, specializing in comprehensive financial analysis, helping borrowers get the very best home loans at the best terms for their specific situations and goals.

Yesterday a client called and asked to come see me this morning. After discussing his file here he said he wanted to ask about something unrelated to his loan. He then showed me a check from E & W Enterprises, drawn on US Bank. The check has the usual watermarks and graduated color background. The check was signed by Jennifer Marlo and the letter accompanying the check was signed by Marilyn Ritchie.

The letter states that recipient has been approved for a grant in the amount of $10, 000. The commission to Ms. Ritchie for securing the grant is represented to be 4%, i.e., $400. Ms. Ritchie goes on to tell the recipient to deposit this preliminary check in the amount of $944.55 into his bank account. Then, pay the $400 commission via a commercially available Greendot card to Merchant ID#8549. She states, once that's done the balance of $9, 055.45, which is "waiting in our office" will be sent via overnight air express delivery. Until then the balance of $544.55 is his to spend however he likes, she wrote.

I'm a strong believer in there being no free lunch and if it sounds too good to be true then it almost certainly is. I trust people but even after reading the fine print, always find ways to do independent research to validate information BEFORE signing anything. I try to educate my borrowers to do the same.

After reading through the letter I warned my client that even if it were an authentic check, running it through his bank would give the sender his bank name, account number, and routing information. That alone was a great concern. So, the first thing to do would be to call US Bank and determine whether the check was authentic with sufficient funds in the account to pay it. If so, perhaps there would be an argument for presenting it directly to US Bank for cash.

Well, there are no US Bank retail branches in Tulsa so we called the closest one listed, in Joplin. The manager there said they're familiar with this scam but that the checks she's known of have been written on a Bank of America account.

I gave her the routing number [protected], and learned it belongs to First Interstate Bank in Helena Montana, not US Bank at all.

There have been charlatans, criminals, con artists and crooks probably for as long as there have been humans, but this scam is especially offensive, with our country in a tenuous but apparent growing economic recovery, so many people out of work and at holiday time too.

The US Bank branch manager agreed to accept a copy via fax and put in motion all the legal action available to the bank. Since the US Postal Service is involved we're notifying the US Postal Inspector General, the US Attorney's office, Minnesota, California, and Oklahoma's Attorney Generals, the Better Business Bureau, and FBI.

After all of that I wanted to take a minute to post here. I hope it helps prevent other victims as well as catching and stopping these villains.

Sincere & Warm Regards,

Thank You for posting the info on this scam. I was very leery when I received the check since my husband got scammed out of almost $1900 a couple of months ago by a ### on craigslist. My husband was just trying to look for work since he got laid off his job and that money we had to pay for the scam wiped us out of the little bit we had. Now we are really struggling because of it and this check looked real good right now, but I am now very untrusting of anything. I sure hope they get caught and locked up. But if not, it gives me great pleasure to know they will burn in Hell for eternity for what they are doing to innocent, struggling, hurting people.

Green Dot [redacted]

My husband and I received a GIFT card for our wedding gift from people at work. It was purchased at a local Walgreens Store. The pre paid visa/ gift card was IMPOSSIBLE to activate. I called the number on the card, and the automated system kept telling me "I do not understand what you are saying". It would not activate the card without me releasing a great deal of personal information. When I tried to supply it, I kept getting "I do not understand what you are saying". After many failed attempts to activate the card, my husband called them. He had the same problem! He called back again and had to FUDGE the system in order to get a customer service representative. The CSR told him they needed his social to activate the card, and tried to get him sent a re-loadable card (WE DIDN'T WANT THIS, we just freaking wanted to use our gift card [censored]). To make a long story short, the company makes it impossible to activate the card, the automated system plays dumb and hangs up even when you follow the commands correctly, and the company is a SCAM. The rely on people not being able to activate their cards, clearly, that is how they make a great deal of money. Between confusing customers and charging RIDICULOUS fees every MONTH (even when you haven't used the card) and the user fees, this is a complete RIP OFF and I URGE everyone to get refunds and not deal with this company. Do not give them any of your business. What a despicable way to rip people off during hard economic times. Additionally, if you make the mistake of throwing away the plastic package it comes in, you may not be able to activate your card at all. Be careful opening the card, as there are numbers they require you to read off to them in order to activate the card. This number was ripped by opening the card. Once again, another way they can deny you YOUR OWN money!

I hope this company gets shut down. I am also writing to all companies that carry and sell green dot cards.

I HOPE THIS COMPANY GETS SHUT DOWN PRONTO!

My son received one of these cards for his graduation. Had a terrible time activating it. Told the woman NOT to send us a permanent card, as he was going to spend the $30 on the gift card, then leave for college. They insisted that it had to be sent to us, and it would cost us about $7 per month for every month he doesn't have at least $1, 000 on deposit. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Here is a kid with no job, no money and no way to pay this. They didn't care. They said he would have to cancel it when it came. That was a joke. It took me three days to cancel it. They wouldn't even let me cancel it for him, even though he was away at school, and I was the one who activated the card. What a freakin' pain in the butt. Rep suggested I make a conference call with him. Right! Had to be creative to get it cancelled. DON't BUY THESE CARDS!

Green Dot horrible customer service

They charged me $10 when I hadn't even used the stupid card. I don't even know what the $10 was for. In addition, when I went to add money to my card to use the same day the numbers on the MoneyPak where unreadable and I could not reload my card. When I called customer service to resolve the issue the three customer services representatives I spoke to were completely incompetent. I asked several times to speak to a supervisor and they would continue to lie and say the supervisor was on the phone and unavailable. I told them I would hold until they got off. They kept me on hold and a supervisor never came to the phone to resolve my issue. I did not get my issue resolved today and I have to wait to get my money back. When I asked for a complete refund, they told me I had to call back. Why. Give me my D___ money back. If you can't help me, send my complete refund in the mail. How hard is that. I shouldn't have to call you back for something like that. I am sure I am not the first person to have this problem and yet they seemed to not have any clue or idea on how to fix it immediately. I am so irrate over what I went through with them today it is ridiculous. I mean what is it with these stupid people. I don't have to spend my money with their company. They act like they are doing me a favor--NOT! I am tired of getting poor customer service when I spend my money. I swear if I have to speak to another one of their representatives about getting all my money back it will not be pretty.

earlier this year I purchased a green dot pre paid card well I needed to use it again yesterday to pay my insurance so I called to ask what the status of my account was and they said it was overdrawn by $9.90 ok that's fine they also told me if I added the funds to my account using a money pak I could use the account. Well I go to the store I purchased a money pak and the card that I have does not match my account number and now I can't get a refund on my money and my insurance is not paid. This was the hugest inconvenience I have ever experienced in my life! i have to either choose to get a refund wich will take 7-10 business days or add the money to the card and wait for a new card to come and since my insurance was not paid my policy has been cancelled. I am furious right now someone has to stop them.
