Fraudulent Fees
When I moved to my new home in the country in McKinney, TX we had only one option for internet service, , , Satellite. I was told by the HOA that fiber optic (Suddenlink) would be to our neighborhood in about 6 months. When signing up for the Internet America service I told them due to my working out of my home that I would be leaving when a faster provider offered service to my home. Suddenlink is here now and I went from 3-4 MB to 75 MB for half the money.
When I cancelled I was told I had a $200 early cancellation fee of which I was never told. I remember signing a document after the install guy finished where this is probably located, but he did not explain all the fine print. Also, if one day you start to use in the internet and it is not working make sure they didn't remove your dish. This happened to me once with no explanation or warning. Spent hours trouble shooting only to find out the removed my dish. My bill was paid on time every time, due to credit card auto pay, so it was not due to being late. Never given a good explanation. Also, good luck getting people on the phone, you have been warned. Find other options.
Charges
I ordered internet services with internet america, I went with the gold plan wich I believe is $59.99 a month with the standard $149.00 instalation fee.. When I spoke to the rep. on the phone, her name was Rachel I specifically asked her if I had to pay anything up front or the day after my internet was hooked up since I did not get paid till the end of the month. She told me I had two options, I could break the instalation fee into 3 payments, or she would be glad to add it to my first months bill. I told her adding it to my first months bill would be great, and then asked again if she was sure i would not have to pay anything up front, she assured me I would not. So I went ahead and signed up. The very nice guy came and installed me internet about 3-4 days later. Everything was great...That was until 2 days later when I just so happened to check my bank account.. We are a single family living off one pay check a month from one working parent let me add.. When I checked my account I was suprised to see the $35 I had in there GONE, and to see a negative balance of $187.00! They had taken $222 out of my accounts, and caused me to be over drawn.. I was furious, and called, and asked to talk to the person in charge. I was transfered to a mr.henijosa who I explained what had happened to. I told him that I knew the phone calls were recorded because thats what I was told so he could go back and find my conversation with Rachel and see I was not lieing. He then told me that not all the conversations were recorded, and that there was absolutly nothing he could or would do for me. He told me I would not be getting a refund, and that he does not know why Rachel would have told me that because they do not do that.. I feel they tell you what they need to, to make a sale to you. It's shady, and horrible! I was also un-aware of the 2yr contract. And when I asked mr.henijosa to just refund my money back, and cancel my services since I was lied too, he informed me that he could cancel my services, but that I would not be getting a refund, but instead being charged another $200 for a disconetion fee/breach in contract.

Fraudulent charges
Signed up for DSL. The modem/filters were dropped off the very next afternoon, after the rep said three to five days. We went ahead and hooked everything up getting it prepared for a tech that was supposed to show up, according to their website. We waited the 7-10 days specified in their instructions, and then gave them a call. They were surprised as to what we were calling about.
The thing never did work properly after several hot-headed tech support contacts. Sent the modem back, and was charged not only the $95.00 setup fee, but $40.00 monthly fee, and a $200.00 early cancellation fee. All of this went on between February 17 2009 to March 16 when we called to cancel- although the modem was mailed back to them a week prior.
These people just don't care. Seems almost like a scam.

Bad Service
I have had really bad connection since Dec 15, 2008 (when I started documenting it). I have called and called but they could never resolve my issues. I sent emails and still have not gotten any resolution. When calling the people that answer the call can't believe they have not fixed my problem. Finally in Feb. when I called, I was told that they upgraded the front portion of my subdivision and should be getting to my side. 1st week in March, I call back, found out they could not figure how to get the backhoe to the tower that I am connected to. March 19 they say they are upgrading the area, I don't believe it. My upload speed has be averaging 2 kb, the download speed has been tolerable. I pay $52.00 for their service, which I should be getting top speed. Sometimes I am on the internet and get knocked off and have to unplug everything then hope I get service when plugging back in. I tell them to credit my account and can you believe they charge me $37.00 for a month of crap. I have told my neighbors to get Satelite.

Poor service
Advertises "High-speed, low-latency, gaming compatible, comparable to cable" speeds and has major lag and customer service issues. Waiting on the phone for 15-30 minutes (wonder why?) only to listen to some tech give you a novel of excuses about why you aren't getting better service. My favorite was one of the managers that told me "I am not responsible for how they advertise, we don't provide low latency service".
Anyway, I'd steer clear if you wanna save your hard earned money.

Good. If it requires no expertise maybe you just might have found something you are capable of doing! Thank you Bodisattva!
Rob7458 it does not require any expertise to understand that early cancellation fees are always pointed out in a terms of service.
Exactly how do you know what another person was informed of? You seem to be an expert on everything. Maybe you should try to find work instead of sitting online trying to make people feel stupid. You are what we once called a "telephone Tough Guy" except you hide behind your posts on the internet.
"When I cancelled I was told I had a $200 early cancellation fee of which I was never told."
You were informed of the early cancellation fee when you signed your terms of service.
