Great app
I have used this app every day for about a year now. It helps me stay on track and reach my goals. I like that you can scan books and edited them if you want or manually add them. It tracks progress by percent, pages, time spent/left. You can track achievements, goals, streaks, and stats. Also has the option to connect to goodreads.
The free version only allows you to track one book at a time so I spent the money to track multiple books and I’m glad I did but if you only read one book at a time then the free version is fine. Overall good investment if you like keeping yourself disciplined.
A couple pet peeves on an otherwise excellent app
First, archiving a book counts toward your "books read" goal, even if you didn't finish the archived book. There's a book I have no intention of finishing, but I can't archive it without messing up my reading stats, and I also can't delete it without losing all my quotes and notes.
Second, while I love that you can add quotes by taking a picture, the (otherwise quite good) OCR consistently adds spaces before punctuation marks that don't need spaces before them (periods, commas, etc). It still saves time over typing things in manually, but less so when I have to go through removing spurious spaces.
Nearly Perfect App
This app has almost everything I could ever want. I’ve tried several other reading apps and none of them compare. The one thing I would appreciate is a searchable database of books. I read a fair amount on my kindle and it’s irritating having to always manually enter in that info at the beginning. Also some option to sort books by how much time in left to read or how many pages are left would be great. For now I manually re sort my books by time read it would be great to have that automated.
Still giving it five stars because this app is amazing and I hope the devs have these updates in the pipeline!
Exactly what I wanted!
This app is wonderful! I love to read and because I love to read that means I end up reading many books throughout the week. This app helps me to record and track all my reading and more. It records, stores, tracks, calculates, times all my reading logs and much more. I love the easy to do book upload by accessing your phone's camera in order to scan the books upc. Much could be said about this app in the positive. I recommend it to all readers and even those who aren't good readers but want to get better. The data logs will help you see what you have done and your performance. Get the app, you won't be disappointed.
So far so good!
I've tried other reading apps recently and by far, this one has the most functionality in terms of collection statistics about your reading life, which, as a librarian I am all about! The barcode scanner is wonderful for adding books... Especially if you have a penchant for reading ones with long titles! I see front the settings that there's a backup/ restore setting which I haven't had a chance to try yet, but is nice because other apps I've used just save to iCloud and have glitched and lost my record of books... Super annoying. The only thing I could ask for would be some aesthetic personalization settings... Just the ability to change the color scheme would be nice.
Tried them all
Was looking for a simple app to log how many pages I’d read and log reading sessions. After downloading all of the top reading stats apps I tried each one and was disappointed that most were harping on scheduling a time to read and how many minutes a day I wanted to set aside to read, they didn’t provide a way to log pages read only time as far as I could tell and they were littered with ads and requests to go premium. Don’t waste another second with any other app. This is the most simple, straightforward way to log your reading sessions that don’t need to be time bound but certainly can be. Can’t wait to keep exploring the features in what will be one of my top used apps!
Good app on the way to great
I appreciate the focus of this app and its clean/simple feature set. I also like that it sends info to Goodreads, effortlessly. So it has a bit of a social component if you want that.
I read a mix of real books and digital books on a variety of devices. I would really like it if Leio allowed me to enter my progress as a percentage instead of as pages - since page numbers don’t really mean anything on digital readers. If that feature was added, Leio would be darn near perfect!
Update: turns out the feature I want is in fact there! My bad. When you add a book you can go into advanced options and designate it an ebook. You can the track your progress as a percentage. Thank you Leio!
Hopeful, but disappointed
I was really excited when I first found this app, as I have several books to read for classes and work. I debated over spending $5.99 to add multiple books (because was it really worth it?) but I decided to purchase. I was quickly disappointed when I found how poor the “planing” options were. Although this app can predict how quickly you might be able to finish a book, that’s about all it can do. My hope was to be able to set goals for multiple due dates for multiple books. I have several to read for classes (where I read 2 books per month), a few for work (where we read an assigned portion for discussion every 2 weeks), and then books I’m reading for pleasure. This app will not help me keep on track with the 6 books I’m reading to make sure I finish each book or section on time. Super disappointed and I wish I could get my money back.
A delight to use
I almost use this app everyday. Growing up, I didn’t care too much to read, preferring something more visual like movies and television. I could read when I had to for school projects or articles, but I dreaded it. Since then I have found some authors and books that really interest me over the years, and have been caught deciding whether or not to purchase the digital (e-book) version or the physical book. I love the statistics and calculations e-books have to offer, yet miss the vintage smell of classic books and the turning of the pages. Ever since I started using Leio it’s helped me read more and more. It is adaptable for either digital and physical books and keeps a digital bookshelf and progress all in one place while keeping up with the data as I progress through the books. Truly, an amazing app indeed. Thank you!
An Apple Watch feature would be handy giving an option to select the book, start, pause, and end reading sessions. Just a suggestion, that would be cool.
Not for me; need to Disclose limitations
I hate to download apps that do not fully disclose limitations of the free version (or that I have to creat an account). You can only log 1 book in the free version.
I understand there are limited features in free version, and you can’t please ever1, But limits to logging 1 book is a waste, manipulation to upgrade, advertising and impractical. I can deal with limitations like online access, etc. allowing someone to add at least 3-5 books would not put this developer out of the way and it shows you care about ppl improving their reading, instead of lining your pocket.
I just want a simple app that tracks my reading and help me enjoy reading again. I want to enter book info, don’t need social any social aspects, share with friends, create any stupid account, or focus on ebooks. I’m fine with kindle for ebooks. I Just want the good old fashion way do I can preserve my eyesight. Just add a simple disclosure line to your description.
Free version only allows you to add 1 book!
What if there was a school version?
This is a really cool app and I haven’t seen anything like it. I really like the functions of being able to track your reading time/speed and have it automatically tell you when you might finish, as well as setting out times on a calendar when you want to finish it by.
As a university student, I’m looking for something like this— but since it isn’t designed for schoolwork, some things don’t work that well. For example, I’m assigned sections or chapters out of books, and on my book log I’d like to be able to put all of those under the same entry and track my progress. Additionally, it would be cool if I could organize it by classes. If there was a school/university version of this app, that would be amazing! As someone who can never get my readings done because I have a hard time planning for them (I have so much reading for so many classes that it’s hard to keep track), and I can never estimate how long a reading will take me, if this app were adapted for schoolwork it would be awesome! (Hope you consider it!)
Awesome App
Been using this app for a while. I don’t understand why none of the other book-tracking apps don’t allow you to plan your reading out, so you know how many pages to read each day based on your finish date goals. Blows my mind, honestly. That’s why I stay with this app. If I skip a day or two, I appreciate seeing what I need to read to finish on time. Other apps offer a lot of stats and stuff, but they don’t help you break down reading requirements to help you reach your goals.
I wish I could create lists or that tags could filter the main “read” page. I prefer for my archive to be my finished books. I have started making “books” that become titles or dividers for months or my “to read” sections. However, it would be much cleaner if I could plan for a month/quarter using lists or filtered tags in the main Read section.
One annoying thing I have noticed is that new books put into the app sometimes shift back to the top after they have been organized. It’s like it didn’t sync fully. Usually, it only happens once, maybe twice, and then they stay put.
Simple, helpful, and looks great!
After a couple weeks of using Leio, I’ve come to really enjoy the app. I very much like the simplistic and modern design. It also gives a lot of information that I just like to keep track of, but it doesn’t clutter the screen with too much nonsense. Keeping track of my reading progress and times actually really helps me motivate myself to maintain persistent reading patterns.
There are two slight frustrations with the app, though.
1) There seems to be no automatic syncing feature. It would be convenient to have my data automatically synced to both my iPad and iPhone so I can use either device when I want to. But as of now, it seems that you have to go through a complicated data transfer every time you want to update data across devices—so it’s not practical at all to use multiple devices with the app
2) Probably the worse downside: Whenever I manually enter a book into my reading list, it is very difficult to import a cover image correctly. Normal-sized pictures get turned sideways and stretched. To get a decent-looking cover image, I have to try many different forms of cropping, and even still it gets positioned weirdly. This is something I can’t Imagine being difficult to fix.
But overall it’s a great app and I will continue using it!
What to say?
Leio is an interesting app, and reviewing it is complicated. On the one hand, it has the potential to be incredibly useful. On the other, the app is fairly pointless, especially for those who choose to read e-books. I fall into this second camp.
What does Leio do? Well, it times and keeps track of your reading sessions. Mind you, this process is entirely reliant on manual input. This means you have to start the timer every time you start reading, end the timer when you finish, and tell the app the last page you were on.
This is especially useful if say, your New Year’s resolution was to read more. The usefulness doubles for those who choose to stick with reading physical books, as it can give a really good idea of how long it’s going to take to complete a book. Unfortunately, most e-book companies provide a similar function built into their apps and e-readers.
Adding books into the app is easy, but the app’s usefulness is once again slanted heavily towards those reading physical books- you can simply scan the barcode and the app will input all pertinent information for you.
So, in summation, this app is wonderful for those who read physical books, but would like access to some of the more powerful tools available to those who choose to read e-books. For those who read e-books, this app is little more than a timer designed for books. I am a diehard Kindle user, and read a lot on my phone while on the go. As it stands I do not know how long I will keep this app on my phone. I don’t particularly regret purchasing the full app, as I can always get behind supporting good software.
TO THE DEVELOPER: I highly recommend adding in two features, both of which would go a long way to improving the overall usefulness of this app.
First, and foremost, the app really should chime when the daily goal has been met. This can be based on time, or on the estimated number of pages read. Why such a function has not been included in the app already is beyond me.
Second comes the long shot, but a feature that would make Leio an indispensable app: an automated timer for e-book readers. Leio can already tie into Goodreads, what if it could tie into the Kindle app? I wouldn’t have to log my own reading sessions, the app could take care of all of this for me. I don’t know if Amazon (or other e-book companies) would ever cooperate with such a function, but if you could accomplish this feat you would turn Leio into one of the most useful apps in the App Store.

It’s completely stopped working
I bought the full version and downloaded the latest update and now the app wont open. I’ve restarted it and restarted my phone and nothing seems to work. Hoping for a fix or a refund

Inconvenient
Not very user friendly. Was suggested by our school’s admin to track summer reading, but apparently you have to purchase the $5 version to use many features. Would not use again but already began tracking reading here.

Stopped Working
I was loving this app, but it suddenly stopped working for me. Every time I try to click on my books it does absolutely nothing, so I can’t update my progress. I’ve deleted and reinstalled the app twice now and the same issue is happening.

Unusable
The app has potential.
The problem is that using the app to get yourslef away from the activity of reading is already interruptive, but everytime I try to write a note or save a quote it bombards you with ads.
Not the best moment to be asking the user for ads!

Sexual adds
I’ve been recommending this app to my Wife who teaches high school English…so that she can recommend Leio to her students… but now I keep seeing an add for an app (called Dipsea) that basically tells sexualized romance fantasy stories.
I really wish these adds would stop.
I don’t recommend this app for younger children anymore.

Latest update causes timer reset
I’ve enjoyed using this app until the most recent update. If you pause your reading, or even if the phone goes to “sleep” while you’re reading, either way, when you try to bring the app back up, it clears the timer and goes back to the main “Read” list. If you’re fast enough, you can see what reading time you left off at before it clears it, and you can enter your reading session manually, but if not, you’re just left guessing. :/

Book information
Using the app to scan a physical book works. It retrieves book information, especially the book cover. But what about ebooks? I have to write every information, book title, author, pages and even the cover. I have to write every information of the book. Which is kinda frustrating. Why can’t i just input the eISBN of the ebook and let the app retrieve the information online? Book cover and EVERYTHING. I like the app. I do. But please consider adding this feature in the future.
