Roof was claimed on our homeowners insurance policy. After having about six different roofers give me estimates, I filled out a request on Lon Smith Roofing's web page to come by. Their rep was very convincing and smooth as to the company history, how long they have been in the roofing business, etc. They are without a doubt the best roofing company, bar none according to their rep.Their radio and television commercials state the same as well. We chose them and got taken for a ride. Roof was completed based on my knowledge of a certain written agreement, which given to me up front. After asking the rep why they chose not to add in the 30 lb felt backing, nor any roof valley flashing or have my turbines at the same spec of my existing turbines, he made those changes to the request. Nothing was ever annotated on the bid as to a line by line price change, only the grand total. We were never told verbally there would be a price change to the job. When our roof was replaced by them, the workers were drinking beer in my front yard, completely unprofessional and unethical. I do not know labor laws, but I know this is illegal. They sent me the final invoice (basically a blank letter stating "Roof done per contract" with a total price at the bottom), This is the first time I had ever seen the price increase (notice their price increased AFTER they received the settlement letter from my insurance adjuster). However, they sent my insurance adjuster a final invoice for about $1, 600.00 less then ours with the details of everything they did for the job. How does that work and why did they defraud us out of so much more money? When I made more then several attempts to contact the corporate office to discuss the issues, I NEVER received a call back, ever. I did receive a threatening letter from the very person I was attempting to contact notifying us that we owed them the entire amount. This was in complete contrast that the salesman (rep) told us we did not owe them anything until we had received all of our money from our insurance company. It took me four months to accomplish all of this because nobody could help me with the claims process (no phone calls ever from the corporate office for assistance, none at all, nit until I paid off the complete amount of the roof, including our insurance deductible to the roofer)? After that (ironically), three days later I received a call form the corporate office wanting to know why I filed a complaint with the BBB (who did NOT help). They came out and spoke to my wife and looked over invoices and everything and tried to make amends. Really, it took this long and to go to this level BEFORE they would help. If you want to pay to much for your next roof use them, if not, stay away.
