12/1/22 I got a text from Merrick Bank that a purchase of more than $200 was put on my cc. I called MB and told them I did not make this charge; it was fraudulent and they said it was pending and they would take care of it, The charge went through, taking me over my credit limit. I called MB back. They increased my credit line by $1,000, which impacted my credit report. I have 80 pages of phone calls, emails, and cert mail to Merrick Bank. They suggested I settle up with the merchant. There is interest and late fees as well. I feel this is in retaliation to my having closed the account back in January after confirming I had a zero balance, I owed nothing. When asked why I wanted to close the account, I told MB it was for the poor manner in which they handled my account as well as me, a longstanding customer with a great account history. Less than a month later, they reinstituted the $1,000. I get the same rote response from them every time; that they have no recourse of means by which to reach out to the merchant. Recently they offered to drop the amount to $600 and now $400. I did not make or approve of this transaction. I owe zero dollars. I have spent well over 60 hours defending myself.
Desired outcome: I want the $1,000 and interest and penalties dismissed, to have this removed from my credit report, to have the harassing phone calls, emails, and letters to stop, and to receive it in writing since they've reneged four times.
