I am a current homeowner and neighbor of the Moose Lodge in Sparta, MI. I have lived in my current home for just over a year. We love the area and would have loved to become members at the moose lodge, because we also believe in your mission and have always respected that.
We have put up with golf balls in our yard, golfers walking all over our property to retrieve balls and run in with golf carts without complaining. But when golf balls have almost hit my grandchildren when they are having fun in the lake, I am done.
On Friday, September 1, 2023, we were enjoying our evening when a ball took out our attic window. When we went and asked for the golfers info they got belligerent with us. So, for the first time I called the Moose Lodge #50 and asked very politely for Dave and was told he was not there. I told the young lady that I needed to report my window being broken and that one of the last two groups heading in had caused this damage. I asked if I could leave my name and number and have them call me back but she instead decided to let me know that i needed to get over it and they were there first. And then continued on with very foul language so I hung up.
If that is the behavior that you want as the face of one of your chapters, ok. But it's not what a place that claims to be for the children and families should allow.
This has been going on for years and they have bullied previous home owners from doing anything about it. But we are all new owners and we are not going to allow a child to get seriously injured before they simply put up nets or do some adjustments of the course.
That's just being a good neighbor. They wont even talk like human beings about it and just laugh us off. My house was built in 1947...The Moose did not move there until 1974. We are working with our township office to investigate our issues because they operate under a special land use authority that can be revoked.
I have had neighbors that are members and they have been cussed out and treated so disrespectfully when they have tried to ask for their help with this issue.
I realize that you will probably do the same, but we are going to keep pushing ,and if the township can't help us then we have the media. They would eat this story up. Times have changed. Golf clubs and balls go much further and faster and they need to adjust to that.
They could easily charge .50 cents more for a round of golf and pay for nets in no time. It really is not asking for much just to keep people safe. Most of which are new families with little kids.
PS-They also have young children without adults on the course-they drive the lodge golf carts off the course to go buy more liquor at the convenience store and so many other issues that are going unchallenged or fixed. It would be a shame if they lost their liquor license.
Thank you for your time and consideration-
