Scam, got redirected from gov DMV when I clicked "credit card pay" straight to NeedTags "DMV partner
Scam, got redirected from gov DMV when I clicked "credit card pay" straight to NeedTags "DMV partner". Thought it was a DMV site and expected a 1.3% CC charge. Instead, they charged me $200 for three vehicles, totaling around $600 for renewal fees. Maybe there's a virus that installed a link to NeedTags, you never know these days. I should have checked YELP before using their service. I really liked the comment above where someone responded to an upset customer using a little bad language. So, I replied with the charge *** and said, "You've f&$*ed with the wrong guy". I'm a retired aerospace engineer and I have dealt with a lot of government paperwork in my time. I'm tenacious and have plenty of free time. I would never knowingly use anything other than my local AAA or the online DMV. NeetTags (typo intended) definitely knows what they're doing. I tried calling them several times, but I kept getting redirected to a home health alarm scam. Finally, I managed to connect with a voice, but they asked me to have a # ready and put me on hold. I'm really disappointed that I can't leave a zero star rating.
This website being called an "official partner" of the DMV is ridiculous
This website being called an "official partner" of the DMV is ridiculous. I looked on the DMV site to pay for my vehicle registration two months ahead of time, and this website popped up. It looks just like the real site. When I found out they charged me $52.18 just to mail me my tags, which is something the DMV should do with my registration fee, I complained to my bank and they gave me back the difference between my registration fee and what this scam website charged. After the bank refunded me the $52.18, I got an email from this site accusing me of "civil theft" and threatening to "prosecute me to the full extent of the law". I let the bank charge me that amount again, although now I realize it was probably just a scare tactic and I shouldn't have paid it at all. I want a refund for the $52.18 without any more threats of "further action". I tried to contact the DMV fraud investigation department, but it's impossible to talk to a real person and their chat option can't handle this problem.
Required auto registration. It was over overdue by aver a year. Received my ecards registraiion as soon as I filled out the forms - within 10 minutes of finding the website. It was simple and fast.
From our experience, we could not give any stars. My son paid NeedTags to transfer title on 1/9 - order# XXXXX, It is an interfamily transfer so there is no need for smog test and the form stated as such. First NeedTags asked us to complete the smog test, they hold our pink slip (owner's tilte paper). We asked again and again via email and website requests to send the title back and provide a refund since no work was completed. Now, no one answers or process any phone requests anymore, I would not use this company if they are still in business.
This is a scam service.
They are awful. No contact information, misrepresent themselves as DMV. Stay away from this company.
These guys are total crooks and should be shut down
These guys are total crooks and should be shut down. Last year I broke my back, shoulder, leg, and got a brain concussion and cut my nose off, which had to be sewn back on by a plastic surgeon, in a terrible accident. I went online to pay my registration tags and used Needtags 'cause I couldn't get out of bed to take care of business.
I gave 'em my debit card number and my tags were $283.36 and they charged me $363.00. I got my tags and was happy. HOWEVER, I didn't get my renewal this year and when I called DMV they said they got a bad check last year for my tags? I didn't write a check and checked with my bank and my debit card was honored for the $363 and paid on 09/07. I can't renew my tags without a fine now and I've tried at least 10 times to contact Needtags and they won't respond to me. If DMV got a bad check, it was from them and not me. I have proof in hand that everything was paid and honored by my bank. I've left my phone number and begged 'em to contact me and they won't. They're totally guilty of FRAUD!
I know that there has been some confusion about whether Needtags is a legitimate company and there are a couple of complaints here. But I have had nothing but a great experience working with Needtags. My son needed a new pink slip because he lost it and Needtags provided a new pink slip within a week so he could sell his car. I recently needed to get tags for my new car because the DMV failed to provide the tags with my plates. I got the tags within a few days from Needtags. I think that their service is outstanding and their communication is perfect. You need to keep in mind that you will pay a service fee for their service, but it is certainly worth it rather than having to stand in line and the DMV. Lastly, I never write reviews but given the lack of good reviews for Needtags, I thought that I would share my experience with the readers of this website. I highly recommend Needtags.
This company makes it appear they are the CA DMV. Then they charge you fees and you only realize you are not dealing with the DMV when you submit your credit card. Do you get what you need? Yes. But you play a premium for something that shouldn't cost a dime.
I've worked with NeedTags in the past, and the last time I used them for a standard title transfer they were fine. However, this time it was a fiasco. Let me explain.
I'm attempting to register a salvage title car in CA and decided to use NeedTags rather than deal with the hassle at the DMV (because I know it requires special documentation). They explicitly advertise that they can handle salvage/junk title cars (see here: https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/business-partner/needtags/). I sent them my title/transfer doc/smog and then a week later they randomly cancelled my order, saying I needed more documentation.
I'm fine with giving them more documents, but they had the car's VIN to start with, so they should have known what paperwork I needed to send. And they didn't even try to get me to send them to documents to resubmit it, they just cancelled it. So lazy. Why pay the $90 fee and wait a week if this is the service they're going to provide?
So, I've wasted a week and they refused to refund my shipping fee to get the paperwork to them. Waste of my time and money, and their effort as well. False advertising, or at least misleading. Will never use them again, I'll sit in the DMV (even with COVID!).
I just read a bunch of reviews about Need Tags, and let me tell you, we've had nothing but problems with the DMV in Los Angeles County
I just read a bunch of reviews about Need Tags, and let me tell you, we've had nothing but problems with the DMV in Los Angeles County. We gotta drive all the way to Taft Californian just to get our DMV stuff done. I think there's some shady stuff going on between Need Tags, the DMV, and the local police who tow cars. I thought Need Tags worked with the DMV, but we couldn't even find our car on their messed up website. So, we paid in advance to register our car and get it out of impound because our registration was 5 months late and we never got it. I've been doing this for over 30 years, like clockwork. I did consider the slow down because of COVID-19, you know? This happened on a Saturday night. Then we waited until Monday and went to the DMV in Taft California, and they said they didn't get any fees from Need Tags. So, we paid them there and got a permit to drive the car to a Smog station. I called Need Tags that day to let them know the DMV didn't acknowledge their payment, and that we paid the DMV directly. But man, Need Tags got all defensive and mean. They're not a government DMV service, they're just some aggressive third-party company that doesn't treat their customers right. But you know what? I'm gonna tell people about this, I'm gonna write to Sacramento and let them know what's going on. I'm even working with a local reporter who's interested in investigating this story. From now on, I'm gonna register all my cars with AAA and do it in advance, since we don't get our renewal notices anymore. It's all part of the corruption with the Los Angeles County DMV, I tell ya. Need Tags needs to start treating people like human beings who are going through a tough time with the messed up online DMV and the pandemic. The DMV needs to see how terrible this third-party company is. I ain't scared of their bullying tactics, I know the law. Let's see what the DMV does. Luckily, our bank refunded us the money we paid to Need Tags, and our bank knows the law too. Just be patient, I say, and the truth will come out. Take care, y'all.

Website is misleading, looks like DMV official site
Website is misleading, looks like DMV official site. Somehow they come up first in the search instead of the real DMV. Didn't have my registration invoice when completing the transaction so I didn't know the exact amount. Looked at it later and realized I used the wrong site and got scammed to the tune of $57. Poser sites like this should be illegal.
DMV poser site to over change registration
DMV poser site to over change registration. Absolutely zero benefits to using this borderline fraudulent site. Why would anybody knowingly pay more for registration when they can go to the official site for no extra change. This organization is misleading and wrongly profiting... Beware! check the web address make sure the site is https://www.dmv.ca.gov

This website is a scam, they charge way more than the DMV, the website was directed when I tried to renew my registration, I think they should be removed and shutdown immediately. People renewing their title for the first time are being cheated and they don't refund any money even thoughI contacted them within one hour of the process. This is a SCAM and FRAUD by deceiving customers.

This company is a TOTAL SCAM! They lie and say they can have everything sent to you in 3-5 days. I had to literally e-mail them and ask them what to do after they charged my credit card $99.95. Told me to send the title in. Told them I'll just go to DMV and do it myself and asked for a refund. They denied my request. They should be banned from doing any type of business associated with the DMV. Unfortunately, the way they set up their site, thats who I thought I was dealing with. They have a DMV banner pop their site. I will be contacting DMV headquarters in Sacramento as well to explain what this shady company is doing.

Registration
I received an email from this website claiming that my registration is due and that I can make the payment online now. I was like wow dmv no longer sends mail. Good for them. I click on the link which takes you to a website that is very similar to dmv. I looked at fees I had to pay and I was like it seems more than the usual amount that I pay but I made a...

Needtags.com is a phishing website. If you click directly on 'renew online' from google search they DO NOT let you know that the website is NOT a dmv website like they do on the homepage. Many people are being scammed by paying 40% more with no benefit. Google is to blame as is dmv. Neither should let this happen. CA charges too much for registration and for people to get tricked into paying an even higher charge is unethical. The extra money just goes directly into the pockets of scammers who let the automation do all the work.

Registration Renewal
NeedTags is a very misleading website with HORRENDOUS customer service. I was renewing my vehicle registration, processed the transaction, entered my credit card information, and at the end realized that I was not on the CA DMV website.
My attempts to call customer service to politely request a refund were rudely denied by a supposed "supervisor". I understand that the website states that they are autorized by DMV to provide services on their behalf, but like many complaints on here, NeedTags is very misleading.
Their efforts to maintain "transparency" are bogus, as they REFUSED to refund the $49 processing fee. Not a good sign when a customer service representative hangs up on a customer . Ended up paying $70 more than what I would've paid on the OFFICIAL DMV website.
Claimed loss: $49
Desired outcome: Courtesy refund of full/partial of the processing fee.

They took my money from my card and still wanted to me to send them out my paperwork and pay my own shipping. They were no help to me whatsoever ! I've never ever registered a car before better yet own one . I thought they were going to help me and guide me thru the process but didn't even bother messaging me at all. I am pretty much the one that I reached out to them. They advertise that you can have your tags printed out overnight and it's has the fastest shipping but they charge so much money for that once they already took the *** out of my card . The customer service was just beyond horrible

This company website looks almost exactly like the DMV renewal website and its website link is deceiving. They charge an extra *** for DMV renewal. Deceptive Website Appears to be DMV This site is a rip off - I'm in no hurry to register, I have weeks to go. I thought I was on DMV site - authorized for online registration and got up charged over $35 dollars. How can dmv.ca.gov endorse such a grift? Is this company owned by someone with ties to politicians? There is no benefit to this and it is deceptive.
Needtags is charging a $99.95 service fee for services not received. I was registering a vehicle on line through the DMV. Near the end of the registration process I realized that I was no longer on the DMV site but was now on something called Needtags. . I immediate left the site, thinking it was some sort of scam. Because I had entered my credit card info, I am now being charged a $99.95 "service fee" which Needtags says is not refundable. I did not receive any services from Needtags. I was later able to register the vehicle at the DMV. Needtags is refusing to give me a refund.

needtags.com is deceptive re their fees
needtags.com is deceptive re their fees. Being an authorized partner with CA DMV implies that paying them is just like paying the DMV.. My intent was to pay my CA DMV fees to the CA DMV. I was routed to needtags.com where I completed my transaction.I was charged an excessive service fee. When I contacted needtags LESS THAN 5 MINUTES LATER to complain I was told that the transaction can't be cancelled because it was already processed. The representative's tone made it evident I'm not the first person they've ripped off. Further, needtags is an authorized partner of the DMV, which to me implies there won't be any extraneous charges. Also, my registration and receipt do not have these extra charges on them - again very deceptive. See attached DMV screenprint - there is no mention of any additional charges.

I went to the official site to pay for my vehicle renewal
I went to the official site to pay for my vehicle renewal. The total fee charged my credit card was unexpected. On 11/3, I visited the official portal for vehicle registration renewal. Unbeknownst to me, I was redirected to an unofficial site. Believing I was on the official site as usual, I proceeded. My standard fee resulted in unexpected charges on my card, followed by another fee, summing up to a significant overcharge. I emailed the contact on the receipt, only to be informed I had accessed a 'third party site' and consented to the higher fee. This deceptive practice is unacceptable! The official site should prevent such misleading redirects. At 77, I find this exploitation particularly egregious. I demand a refund for the overcharge. My license number is withheld for privacy.

They have a deceptive website that is created to steal using exuberant fees and follow that with legal threats February 25 I searched for CA DMV registration renewal and unknowingly clicked on needtags.com website to Re-register my vehicle. The site gave no indication that it was a 3rd party site until I noticed at the end of the transaction that they had charged me about $50 in fees. I immediately reached out to request a cancellation. Right after that I went to the CA DMV website and Re-registered my vehicle. I then sent needtags.com a follow up email letting them know that I need to cancel the transaction and have already registered the vehicle. They filled that with a threatening letter telling me there was a no cancelation policy and that I would me charged with civil theft if I cancel the charges on my credit card. I am absolutely going to cancel the charges on my credit card. How does a company like this have the ability to operate in the state of CA or anywhere in true USA?

The advertising and website design are misleading
The advertising and website design are misleading. I want a refund because I thought I was paying the California DMV. I ordered a title transfer through this service on 12/8 for $99.95 on a credit card (Order number ***). This company pushes their results in google to be a top result through advertising and designs their website to appear as if it is a branch of the DMV. This is not true. I have no way to contact this company for a refund. Here is the message on their site if you try to find their contact information: "Phone Support COVID-19 State of Emergency - Please note that we will be responding to emails and voicemails only. We appreciate your patience and flexibility during this challenging time." They then do not leave any phone number or email to contact, just a generic form with no way to confirm a received message. I do not want a proxy service interacting with the DMV on my behalf with my personal information. Luckily, I have not mailed out any personal documents related to the title transfer. I will not be sending these out. I will go to the DMV in person to complete the process. I want a refund as I no longer require their services and they cannot complete any services for me without the appropriate documents.

Failed to refund non-performed services
Failed to refund non-performed services. I purchased a car on 12/20. After logon to*** there's option for online transfer. I was redirected to another website that looks pretty much the same as DMV website. Prompted me to enter my personal and car info, then paid with my credit car. After I paid, I received an email and told me to send my title to NeedTags Attn: Title Processing Unit *** XXXXX which isn't DMV location. I was afraid it's a scam and decided not to send my title. DMV staff told me to call because I was paying I supposed to. It could be a scam. Then I called Needtag, there was a lady over the phone answered my call at 10:04AM. I provided my order number and told her to cancel my order. She did what I told her, but there's $99.95 service fee isn't refundable. Needtags didn't provide any services at all. I went to DMV to transfer title myself. I would like the proper regulatory agency to investigate this issue. 1.4. Chargebacks will be considered civil theft. Need tags has somehow attached themselves to DMV website and erroneously charges people on behalf of DMV
Need tags has somehow attached themselves to DMV website and erroneously charges people on behalf of DMV. Dec. XX XXXX I helped my father go to DMV website to order a replacement title for his 28 year old car he is finally going to sell. we followed DMV's instructions and submitted for a $15 processing fee for replacement title. 2 months go by and we look at our order # XXXXXX and the receipt via email. We then realize the payment was not received by DMV and contact this need tags company to better understand why we haven't received replacement title. They ask us if we submitted some form. I explained to the rep *** that we were not advised to do so and already filled out the forms via DMV website and have no clue how this company received our payment. I then contact DMV for my father and was advised this website had nothing to do with DMV. I contact *** back and advised of what DMV said and asked for a refund of my fathers $15. She told me no and the charge was $99.95 and would not get it back. In this time of a pandemic, I am a first responder and this is terrible how people knowing the public has to do internet transactions will hack a system like DMV to collect on behalf of DMV with no intentions of providing the service that was paid for. This company should be closed and sued, and all fake transactions reversed. I would normally go into DMV for a transaction like this but because of the Pandemic, its very hard to get an appointment. While I am out assisting those in a life or death situation, my father is getting scammed. This breaks my heart as I put my life on the line every day to assist those in need and not take advantage of them while this company sits back and just takes from people.

I paid for a service that they said could be provided by their service which in fact they cannot, I found this service on line in desperate search to register my car which I purchased in California in November , tags due Jan 10, 2021. I only have a hand written bill of sale and on top of that I have moved to the state of Oregon. Early Fall of last year I had a tragic experience of a heat stoke standing in line at DMV in Calif having to seek emergency medical. With my plans to relocate and the nightmare of loosing my wallet with every form of ID plus passport in March (part one of my PTSD)-(the first day mandatory masks went into affect) I made the choice of waiting until I got to Oregon to engage with these transistions.. Now that I have moved to Oregon I have made delligent efforts to get my Identification address current, keep my insurance up to date, get title transfer, not only to my name but then licenced and registered in another state. After toggling between state laws and inquiries with Oregon's Department of Tranportation and inspection policies, and talking with AAA of Oregon and Idaho, I was not advised but enlightened with a direction to start. With all the forms I filled out for Need Tags dot com they were completely aware of all the obsticles I was facing and they assured me that we could sort it out together and they took my 100 bucks. Yet the very first instructions I recieved from Need tags was telling me that I had to provide the original title with orginal signatures etc etc( the very things they said their service would do) I have all the legal forms to send to California and wait up to 90 days myself. I do not need their service. When I told them they make fraudulent claims their responce was running my card showing up on my bank transactions immediately. Obviously robot generated and no personalization whatsoever to the partculars of my perdicament. I do not want to monkey around with them adding to my headache. The amount is pending in my bank transactions and I just want it to go away. This is just a scam to get very sensitive information from people disquised as a service. I feel extremely threatened.
