Nickelodeon Music

Music video - Jason derulo's "let me take you dancing"

The music video plays on the channel - Nickelodeon music - which is meant to be for children, is too sexual and models women in a derogatory way.
In my view the channel shouldn't have sexualised dancing on it. It sends the wrong message to young children about respectful relationships with women.

Desired outcome: Remove any music videos that contain this kind of content

Nickelodeon Commercial

Black sunshine commercial is inherently racist and teaches. 1-5 year olds that black kids are better and more special. Teaching kids at a young age what race you are matters and you will be treated differently. Like what kind of message is this on kids programming, show a fruit roll up commercial or something. No racial or politically charged commercials should be allowed to air on kids channels its grooming and brainwashing. Let them watch the cartoons they are there for.

Desired outcome: Removal of commercial and legal action

Agree! I just saw one that was awful! Both my kids even knew it was bad because they said it! The kids were telling black kids that their hair feels weird or you talk different from other black kids I know or your mom has really dark skin. I cannot believe that Nickelodeon is putting these thoughts into young minds! It’s disgusting! This company is literally PERPETUATING racism! It wouldn’t be a thought in an innocent child’s mind unless their parent put it there. And if they did, then that is their problem. A very small population would not openly think this if a company like nickelodeon wasn’t putting out commercials like this!

Nickelodeon Racist black sunshine commercial

Where's your "shine white sunshine" commercial? Why do you have to play racists games to influence our children? If this was about white kids it would be allllllll over the news as racist or wouldn't even be allowed. This is what creates racism in the world. When adults teach young children to focus on a color. My child didn't care at all about skin color until all if this BLM crap . Pull your kids out of public schools because this is exactly what they are being taught.

Desired outcome: Take this [censored] off the air asap

Nickelodeon Black sunshine

I am so sick'n'tired of hearing this commercial... It's on every kids channel, it needs to disappear but it won't because that will be depriving black people of hearing how special they are…well wake up call, every race of a child is special and needs to be uplifted to be all they can be.. Talk about being racist which this commercial completely is and does not belong on any child's learning channels.. I replace black with white to let my grandson know that he is special too even with his white skin.. Shame on you for allowing this to continue to run…and us as any race besides black parents that are wanting our children to learn has no choice but to put up with it like everything else…I am waiting for the day for all this to backfire and it will…just keep pushing buttons

Desired outcome: To listen to other races and take it down

Nickelodeon Victimization of children commercial.

I watched with unfortunate lack of surprise the commercial you aired which first lamented the racial divides in our country, but then went on to only further that divid by telling children that if your skin color is other than white the world is against you. In your commercial you show children implying that they do not have the same advantages as white children. Rather then telling children of any color how they are being repressed, instead build them up. Tell them that they can be President or Vice President. They can own businesses, coach professional teams, be athletes, go to college, be generals and admirals in the military, be doctors, become lawyers, or even go into space.
All I came away with from your commercial is that if you are a minority the world is against you and you do not have the same opportunity as other children.
Incase you were wondering I am a minority being of middle eastern descent. We taught our children that yes there are others out there that have advantages you don't enjoy, but that is true for almost everyone. There will always be someone ahead of you that seems to have it easier, that means you just work that much harder. Instead you are teaching kids that if someone has an advantage over you, rather than work harder you should just complain, protest, or give up because the world is against you.

Desired outcome: Change commercial to build up children and not tear them down.

I posted this in response to one comment in this thread, but I'd like everyone who is complaining about this commercial to read and think about my response. An ad with a poem encouraging black children is no more racist than a men's football team (or entire leagues of teams, like the NFL) is sexist. Encouraging one group is not dismissing or putting down other groups. There is a difference between shouting, "Go Broncos! You've got this!" and, "Raiders suck! You are losers!" Nowhere in this ad does the speaker say, "You are better than others," or, "The world is against you."

Sounds like what you're saying is that it feels uncomfortable (or even wrong) to sit through commercials full of people who don't represent your ethnic background. I imagine that's how POC felt for at least the first fifty years of television and TV advertising. Have you thought of it like that?

That particular commercial is full of black children because the words being spoken are from a poem by Alicia Keys. It's a pick-me-up, you-can-do-it encouragement for children who represent the author's culture. (If you pay attention to television shows and ads, you'll notice that this positive representation is relatively minimal, even today.) It's not discriminatory and it does not send the message that "if your (sic) any other race it’s not as special as being black." If that's the message you got, perhaps you were so focused on the word "black" and images of black children that you missed the bigger message. I suspect this ad airs so frequently because there simply aren't a lot of similar ads. In fact, I can't think of *any* other ads like this one.

This is a great teachable moment for you and your children. Say, "It's true that you are not black but you ARE a sunshine." Have them write sentences or poems about their "sunshine". Maybe they would compare themselves to some other earthly element like wind, a river, or the moon. It's a creative, introspective, and safe way to learn about and describe oneself.

I grew up in Michigan, where there was not a lot of diversity in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. I recognize that it can be challenging to see the other side of the coin, but I encourage you to try. Sure, you can change the channel-- but why not take the opportunity to grow?

Nickelodeon Nickelodeon's "Black Sunshine" ditty

I cannot believe what I just saw. A TV advertisement for young children telling them to pay attention to their skin color. If it's black, you are black sunshine. Talked about all the shades of black to be proud of. Not an Asian, Native American, Caucasian, or Hispanic to be seen. This clip is very long and sending the message to little ones. We are black and we want to be seen for what we are and assimilate into todays culture, UNTIL WE DON'T! ! All children should be celebrated as sunshine and to be proud of who they are, but NOT at the exclusion of all the other kids of whatever color God gave them. I have tried to teach my children to look past color in whomever they meet. You just blew my philosophy right out of the water. I raised my children and now my Grandchildren on good Nickelodeon shows. I also taught PreK and diversity was one of our core values. After this very insulting clip, I will be rethinking that! Your attempt at segregation is disgusting! Shame on you!

Desired outcome: Remove this ad or make it all inclusive!

Nickelodeon SpongeBob SquarePants

In the recent years, we have seen more and more episodes based around the torture and humiliation of Squidward. He used to be presented as a villain, ruining all of SpongeBob's fun. But now, entire episodes of the series where SpongeBob chases and tortures Squidward, for almost no reason. I would even go as far as to say that Squidward is no longer an antagonist of the series, but in fact he is just a pawn of SpongeBob to get out the anger and evil from inside his soul.
The reason I am writing this review, is because I don't want kids to to think that it is ok to bully a classmate, or anyone in fact. After seeing Squidward bullied by SpongeBob for no reason. I am afraid that this show will in fact cause this to happen among kids.
In my mind, one of the most notorious cases of this incident, is the episode: "house fancy". In one very graphic and hyper-realistic scene, SpongeBob drops a leg of a couch on squidwards foot. His toe-nail is ripped off of his foot in a very graphic manner. I would like at least one good thing to happen to squidward in these episodes and not end up with him getting tortured!

Desired outcome: End the squidward torture episodes in SpongeBob SquarePants

Nickelodeon Inappropriate tv shows

These people are complaining about the commercials that are being shown on nickelodeon such as "Black sunshine quote or"Downey and Saba balls quote. But they don't care for their young children to see these TV shows that are played by Nickelodeon and Nickelodeon Junior that are showing these middle school children playing with vibrators and actually showing how to use them on the TV shows? Parents tell me what's wrong with that picture? I had to stop letting my children watch Nickelodeon when SpongeBob first come out due to these inappropriate TV shows from nickelodeon and Nick junior of these children being in middle school and going in the bathroom or these kids homes and playing "spin the bottle", "using vibrators on each other", and teaching these children how to do inappropriate things at their age… I think I'd be more concerned about the content, language, and movies that nickelodeon is putting in our children's minds instead of the commercials that they're allowing to be played. You can call it racism or LGBTQ or whatever you want to call it but I'll call it straight out MORALS if any one of you parents are Christians and allow your children to watch such shows or movies with this type of content in it. Personally Nickelodeon and Nick Junior needs to be taken completely off of the air due to the content that these children are watching and that's how they learn the inappropriate things that they are doing with other children. May God have mercy on the Networks and each and everyone of you that allow young children to watch such filth. Just my opinion and this is coming from a Christian that was brought up in a Christian home that has children that had to stop letting them watch these networks and this is been going on for at least 15 years.

Nickelodeon Downy unstoppable commercial featuring the song "be my lover"

The first time I had seen this ad playing during a commercial break my daughter was watching Paw Pawtrol. I though WOW that had to be an isolated mistake. But now I have seen it a few more times and it is at the very least extremely inappropriate! It even plays when watching streaming version on Direct tv Nick JR channel so you can not even fast forward. This ad features an actor sniffing his laundry and then dancing to the song "Be my lover" by the band La Bouche. The ending of the commercial has the main character as well as other actors pelvuc thrusting to and orgasmic like "Explosion" of liquid. This is on a CHILDRENS NETWORK. The ad is even titled "Behind closed doors" so there is no "oops we didn't realize" Shame on you Nickelodeon for allowing sexual ads to be marketed on childrens tv. I am disappointed and disgusted by your ad decisions.

This ad needs to be removed immediately and those who approved be removed from your organization.

Desired outcome: Removal of ad on your channel.

Nickelodeon Black sunshine commercial

I am so disappointed in this commercial. Let's uplift all children the same not one over another! I do not teach my children racism or to judge from color of the skin but now this commercial is sending messages to them in this regard. Very inappropriate of nick jr to do so. The commercial should of been made with all races! If this was made with hispanics only and definitely made with whites only stating "hispanic sunshine" or "white sunshine" you would be sued for racism!

Nickelodeon Nick Jr. “Black Sunshine” Commercial

My 2 year old daughter and 1 year old son love watching Blues Clues & You on Nick Jr.
Today, we have seen the "Black Sunshine" commercial several times while watching Nick Jr.
As a parent, I DO NOT teach my children to see human beings as different colors. We don't call people "black" or "white." We call people people.
Because this is not something I want my children to absorb, I have made the decision to stop watching Nick Jr. until this commercial is pulled or stops running.
The last thing I need is my smart, impressionable, and extremely talkative 2 year old making a comment to someone in public because of this racism she learned from Nick. Jr.

Desired outcome: “Black Sunshine” Commercial be removed from Nick Jr. programming.

Nickelodeon Black sunshine commercial

I find this commercial to be racist and am appalled that this is being aired on Nickelodeon. Why does it have to be black sunshine? I've never referred to my son or grandson as white sunshine. This commercial is highly offensive and very racial. Children learn racism and your station is being a part of the destruction of the human decency and compassion towards people who are of different races. You're like a reverse kkk. Stop the racism and politics and entertain and educate children as a whole.

Nickelodeon Black sunshine commercial

Our family has watched Nickelodeon channels for many years throughout our 3 children's childhood and now into our Grandson's. Never have we been so disgusted with your channels! How dare you bring racism into our young littleones mind! He is just 22 months old and when he sees other children he sees friends and playmates, he does not understand skin color! Why do you have to specifically bring black skin color out as sunshine and cause all other children who are different colors to feel disappointed or even shamed because they are not black sunshine! If it was white sunshine there would be protests and appologies made to all who were made to feel excluded! You probably would lose your space on many cable networks who would want to separate themselves from your racism! Are you not a network for ALL CHILDREN? This racism crap needs to stop on all ends! Leave the children out of it! In our opinions ALL CHILDREN ARE BEAUTIFUL SUNSHINES!

Desired outcome: commercial taken off the air, keep racism out of childrens programming

Nickelodeon “Black sunshine” commercial

As a mother of 3 children who are not of black ethnicity I find this extremely racist and offensive. It's putting one race on a pedestal. Could you imagine a commercial directed to only "white sunshine"? This is ridiculous and divisive. We shouldn't be celebrating any one race. These children don't see color. We are teaching them that the color of their skin should be a factor of their character.

Nickelodeon Racist commercial

to whom it may concern,

I think the programs for children 3-5yrs of age are extremely educational. My daughter constantly sings songs from blaze and the monster machines and team umizoomi, and has amazed me with her ability to remember the names of shapes, and words and their meanings. However most recently I have been extremely disappointed in the commercials that my 3 year old is watching in between these programs on your channel.

As I'm sure you are aware, children of a young age do not see color as an issue, in fact they don't even notice it in other children. They are color blind to people and just see an opportunity to have friends.

I am a Caucasian woman who has black family, a sister in-law and nieces and nephews, not that I should have to explain my color in any case. The commercial narrated by Alicia keys ‘shine bright my black sunshine' in my opinion is EXTREMELY racist and not only that, it is teaching my children that color makes us different. It doesn't! And what gives nick jr the right to teach my children any different.

I stopped watching Disney when they kept playing the Black Lives Matter commercial multiple times a day and Nickelodeon is doing the very same thing with this commercial. I'm just wondering  what channels are safe for my children to watch without being taught something that is racist or will cause them to have a poorly influenced opinion on something too early, OR EVEN, make them feel inferior to anyone of color, not just black. In our home we teach that all people are equal. Shouldn't you be doing the same?

The world as we know it is changing and with influences from channels like yourself, you can influence for better or worse. We should be filling out children with positivity and good influences, showing them different people of color being playing happily together, not promoting anyone color above another.

I am interested on your perspective on this issue and I'm wondering how many other parents feel the need to stand up for what they believe to be wrong and a poor influence on their children. If this was a ‘shine bright my white sunshine' I wonder if nick jr would feel as impressed to play it?Would that be seen to be racist? Why is this ok because it says black?

I await your response on this issue.

Kindest regards

Mrs Bradley

*Sighs* here we go again, the commercial in question is part of a appreciation campaign...its a poem called black sunshine... the series of commercials is geared to raising awareness to the recent events of mistreatment of citizens. its not highlighting them as Different because of their skin color but as a individual. the commercial is pointing out that they are appreciated regardless of their skin color.

last time i posted this information which you can find by doing a search via your preferred search engine. i am only giving information that i find on the topic posted. it is really sad that people will down vote you for giving information, contrary to their view, based on the topic in question to possibly help the OP.

Again PLEASE search it your self if you don't believe me on your preferred search engine and read what this "racist commercial"[s] are about. if you still disagree with me that is ok it is your view on the information.
