I tried to make some payments but they didn't go through
I tried to make some payments but they didn't go through. The person I was trying to pay couldn't take the money from my account, but Popular still has my money, around $1100. The person I was paying said the payment didn't work, and Popular admitted they're keeping my money for no reason. I'm out of the country and now I don't have any money to get back home.

I got an account with Popular Bank and they've been holding three grand from me since April. No idea why, they never told me. I still get my Social Security check but can't use my debit card. Every month I gotta go to the bank to get my check. They never sent me a letter or nothing.
I visited Popular Bank to discuss account fraud on January 10th and 12th, 2022
I visited Popular Bank to discuss account fraud on January 10th and 12th, 2022. After moving out of my apartment in December , I spoke with the branch manager about unexpected withdrawals, emphasizing that I had relocated. As a retired truck driver on a fixed income with health issues, I rely on the security of my finances.

Popularbank.com you are considering visiting, which is associated with Popular, is very old. However ComplaintsBoard has detected that:
- While Popular has a high level of trust, our investigation has revealed that the company's complaint resolution process is inadequate and ineffective. As a result, only 0% of 8 complaints are resolved. The support team may have poor customer service skills, lack of training, or not be well-equipped to handle customer complaints.
- Popular protects their ownership data, a common and legal practice. However, from our perspective, this lack of transparency can impede trust and accountability, which are essential for establishing a credible and respected business entity.
So, I just found out that Popular Bank has a lien on my mortage that they haven't released yet
So, I just found out that Popular Bank has a lien on my mortage that they haven't released yet. I hit them up on 8/20 asking for a "Release of Lien". They said it would take 7-10 days. But it's now 9/20 and I still haven't gotten the "Release of Lien". They did send me a copy, but it wasn't notarized. I told them my bank wouldn't take it without a notary, but they said I gotta wait. This mortage started in 2003 and got paid off in 2004. Popular Bank is in Puerto Rico. I can't move forward with a loan request without the "Release of Lien" from Popular Bank. Their phone number is . They wouldn't tell me who's supposed to notarize the lien. I asked if they could hurry it up since it's been 20 years, but they said no can do.
I opened a new bank account with Popular Bank on 5/14
I opened a new bank account with Popular Bank on 5/14. I deposited $6,000 and completed the verification process without logging in. I tried transferring more funds but faced login issues. My login ID seemed correct, yet they requested a text verification to a wrong phone number. Contacting customer service, I initially failed their verification by providing an incorrect secret word, and later, incorrect public information answers. The supervisor instructed me to submit a notarized form. Despite notarizing and sending the form, they claimed it lacked a signature, which was untrue. They then claimed I omitted sending ID verification. This frustrating process has lasted over three weeks, with continuous misinformation and additional demands. All I seek is the return of my funds.
Me and my wife started an account with Popular Bank a year ago to buy property in Puerto Rico
Me and my wife started an account with Popular Bank a year ago to buy property in Puerto Rico. We only put cash in and didn't use it for buying stuff like clothes or food. We didn't check it much since we didn't use it much. Then I got an email from Popular Bank and checked the account and saw that $10K was missing. We called and went to the branch in Brooklyn on *** to find out what happened. They said they would look into it and took our contact info. But they closed the investigation because I said I didn't know when the deposit was made, so they thought I didn't make it. They never called me back. We called again and the rep said she called but no one answered. I asked why she didn't leave a message and she didn't say anything. Now we're talking to the area manager, Marvin C and Leslie, and they said they checked for anyone who deposited $10K and found nothing. So we lost our $10K.
I had a CD account with Popular Bank, which was a term CD that matured in October
I had a CD account with Popular Bank, which was a term CD that matured in October . Normally, I get a notice about the maturity of a CD, but I didn't get any notification this time. I got a letter on October 30th saying that they had renewed the CD for another 5 years, on October 11th. I wrote to them through a portal, saying that I wanted to cash out this CD, and that this was the first time I had been notified that it was maturing. They said I could take the money out, but there would be a penalty of $1,100 for not having asked for it during the grace period, which ended on October 11th. I called them and explained that it was a huge penalty and that I didn't get notified in time to tell them that I didn't want to renew the account. A supervisor reviewed it for a waiver of the penalty, but said 'No', with no explanation. The only thing I could do was submit a complaint, which I did. Today, I got a letter from the bank saying they had mailed me a notification a month before the maturity date and they were sticking with their penalty. They ignored the fact that I didn't receive the notification.
I opend a 3-month CD with Popular Direct on December **, with a beginning balance of $72,336.89
I opend a 3-month CD with Popular Direct on December , with a beginning balance of $72,336.89. The CD would mature on April *,. 1) On March ,, I called Popular Direct to provide instructions for my CD UPON MATURITY. I instructed that UPON MATURITY I wanted the CD closed and all of the money (including interest) transferred to a personal savings account at another bank. The man that I spoke to seemed to have difficulty understanding my instructions, but after he re-read his notes back to me, I believed that my instructions would be followed. 2) On March ,, I called Popular Direct once again and spoke to Jimmy in order to provide amended instructions for my CD UPON MATURITY. During this phone call, I checked my external personal savings account and found that Popular Direct has transferred $72,684.52 to this account. Jimmy was able to read the notes on my CD account with Popular Direct and confirm: a) that the notes clearly stated that my account was NOT to be closed until maturity on April *,; but that b) someone had closed the account on March *** and transferred the money to my external savings account. Jimmy apologized and said that this would be investigated and someone would call me back in a couple of business days. 3) On April *,, after I had not received any phone call from Popular Direct, I called again and spoke to Deborah. She once again confirmed what I had been told by Jimmy on March . I explained to her that I never received a call back and that all I want at this point was to receive all of the interest that I was owed. This included: a) the penalty I was assessed for early withdrawal; and b) the interest that I should have earned had my instructions been followed (i.e. had my account remained open until April *,). Deborah assured me that I had NOT been assessed any penalty for early withdrawal. I double-checked this with her, referring to the statement I received from Popular Direct that suggested I had NOT received any interest because the early-withdrawal (which was, of course Popular Direct's mistake). Deborah assured me, once again, that I had NOT been penalized. I believed her. She told me that she made a note that I requested the interest that I should have earned had my account not be closed early. She promised that I would receive a call back after this has been investigated in 24-48 business hours. 4) On April *,, after speaking with Deborah, I immediately checked my external savings account to confirm what Deborah had told me. Deborah was wrong. A total of $72,684.52 was deposited into my savings account. This meant that $347.63 earned interest was NOT deposited. So, I called Popular Direct again and spoke to Devin. I explained to her exactly what had been deposited into my external savings account. This is NOT was Popular Direct's records show! I expressed my shock that not only did Popular Direct transfer my money without my permission, but they also do not keep accurate records. My external account very clearly states that I only received $72,684.52; Popular Direct's records apparently indicate that I received $72, 684.52. Devin said that she made another note that explained this discrepancy and that I would still like the interest that I am owed for the period of the CD that Popular Direct mistakenly (illegally) transferred my money. She said I would receive a call from the investigators in 24-48 business hours (i.e. Monday or Tuesday). 5) It is now Thursday, and I have not received any call. I am certain that Popular Direct's actions are illegal, but I decided to attempt to resolve this dispute through the ComplaintsBoard.com before pursuing legal avenues.
