PXG Fitting Experience
As a former military photojournalist in the early 80’s, who spent time in Beirut, with the Marines, after the embassy was destroyed and 241 US Military personnel lost their lives, in service of our country, I was naturally intrigued by the Bob Parson’s story and the growth of PXG.
I had never been fitted for a driver and had been using an “off the rack” Callaway EPIC Speed that I purchased on my 60th birthday last year.
Over the past 12 months, I had the opportunity to play 63 rounds of golf and throughout the season, had learned to play my irons and adapt to my driver pretty well.
However, as an individual that had always kept themselves in very good shape, both in strength and flexibility, I was very frustrated by the results of my driver distance.
I was ok at finding the fairway, but my total distance was embarrassing at 208-217.
After seeing many videos on the value of a PXG fitting and the new Black Ops driver, I decided to treat myself on my 61st Birthday to take the challenge at the local PXG store in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The entire experience for start to finish was both enjoyable and educational.
My fitter, James Walker was able to take my natural swing, tweak a couple of small nuances and by the end of the session, had me hitting longer drives with a tighter dispersion than I was with my Epic.
My goals going into the fitting were simple and realistic.
I knew that I was never going to be a 300 yard bomber, but if I could get another 15-20 out of my driver, I would be very happy.
During the fitting and with the Trackman technology, I was seeing distances of 230 plus with rollouts in the 240-250 range.
Somewhat hesitantly, and only because James was such a good guy that went above and beyond what was expected, I paid the $704 for the Black Ops 0311 and the Tour AD XC 6 shaft.
After a solid 5 rounds, I can testify, that the driver and fitted shaft has done exactly what I had hoped for. My average drives, according to my GolfPad App, are 237 yards.
Yesterday, on a flat fairway, I flushed a drive with roll out at 255, leaving myself a comfortable wedge to the green.
Off center hits have been extremely forgiving and still seem to give me a respectable distance of 215+.
The feel and sound of the driver is awesome, and I get asked a lot of questions about the driver and the overall experience of working with PXG.
I just wanted to share what a great experience the fitting was, what a great professional James Walker was and how happy I am with my investment into my enjoyment of the game.
If I had been able to afford it, I would likely have gone all in on the irons and bag. Keep up the great work and innovation!
