Suggestion!
I love this app and how simple it is to use!
EDIT: literally scratch what I said below, I figured out how to take something off the "Reading" list, it was just a little more difficult to find:)) so nevermind! Haha I still love this app regardless!
My only suggestion would be to be able to take a book off of your "Reading" list without having to put it in the "Finished" list. I have no qualms about putting a book down midway through if I'm not enjoying it, but I don't want to put it in the "Finished" section if I didn't actually finish it haha.
Also, if there was some way to save your info without backing up to the Cloud--my cloud is out of storage, so I can't save my info if I ever get a new phone:(( maybe if there was a way to make an account with an email?
But like I said, this is my fav reading tracker app! It's just so simple, no frills, does exactly what you want it to do:))
The PERFECT Reading Log
This app is perfect in every way for logging books you have read, and for keeping a list of books you want to read. You can also scan barcodes at the bookstore with a touch of a button to add those titles to your “want to read” list.
You can mark your progress through Books and look back on books you have finished as well as how long it took you to finish them. You can also categorize books into a series or a genre. I use it to record my physical books, Ebooks, and audiobooks that I have read and want to read. I can also look back and see how many books I read each year since it logs when you start and finish each book. Excellent app for every bookworm!
Update: I have really been enjoying the widgets feature added to the Reading List app for iOS 14! Being able to see my book progress for multiple books at a glance, and then update my page number with a tap is phenomenal. Keep up the excellent work developers, I love Reading List!
Simple, efficient, & the best thing since white bread! ;)
I love this app! It helps me keep track of what I’ve read, what I want to read, what I need to buy, which series I’m reading & want to keep up with, & more. You can create lists that fit what you want to know, add notes about each book. You can keep track of how long it takes you to read a book or which & how many books you’ve read in your life time. It is so simple to use, just scan the barcode of the book, import the info from the internet or type it in yourself. There are no adds & if you change devices just export the lists to a spreadsheet which can be imported to your new device. (I think I’m explaining that correctly. I haven’t had to do that yet so idk.) I really do love this app. It is so easy to use & saves so much time that I can spend reading. Oh & I love the app so much that I decided to leave this review which no one asked for (except apple’s prompt asking if I like the app & did I want to give stars or a review, that’s it.) - Stephanie :)
Simple, powerful, focused on the right stuff
I am a long time Goodreads user getting increasingly frustrated by the “noise” of the app— the number of screens I have to go through in order to enter or find a book, the intrusion of other people’s comments, the invitations to vote on new books. This application is a just exactly what I was looking for— a way to keep track of my reading, privately, so I can enter thoughts without sharing them, and remember books from long ago— and not turn reading into an AI driven contest. Thank you! I spent a happy afternoon transferring ten years of data from Goodreads to your app. Goodreads doesn’t have Google data, so it was challenging to get the meta data in, but I perservered!
I’m sure this is WAY off your radar, but I would love it if you one day added the option to keep track of watched movies and TV series— there are NO options that do that simply. I would also love to know what you have planned for the future— is there a timeline? Thanks for the excellent app.
Best Book Tracking App!
Love this app so much! I do have Goodreads and I keep it so I can see my friends books and they can see mine, but other than that I only use Reading List. I love the simplicity of the app, whereas I find Goodreads to be kind of visually cluttered if that makes sense. I would rather have simplicity and organization than an abundance of recommendations and reviews so this app is perfect for me! Its design is simple and clean—it makes finding books and making lists so incredibly easy! I love the feature of being able to scan the barcode to find books, especially if you have a special edition of a book you want to add. Even the fact that you can add books manually is super cool! (Although I haven’t used that feature yet.) And being able to customize my lists and easily sort the books in them is huge also. And lastly, although there are many different features you could add to this app, I think it’s great how it is :) Definitely the app I will be using to track all of my reading, so glad I found it! ❤️
This app is a book lover’s dream
I absolutely love this app! I began to keep a list of my current, upcoming, and finished books in a spreadsheet but that just wasn’t cutting it.
I did a quick search and found this app and have been amazed at it’s ease of use and the fantastic way it keeps my books organized. You find books via searching for the title or author, scanning the barcode (AMAZING feature!) or through entering them manually. It also allows you to document when you started the book, how far along you are (based on page number), and the date that you finish.
Not only can you document progress and see all of your books in your reading queue, but the app also provides information on each book (back cover summaries, ISBN, publisher, subject categories, etc.) You can also organize your books into different lists based on genre, author, series, or whatever your heart desires (you create the lost titles).
Overall, I would recommend this app to anyone who loves to read and wants a better way of tracking their books and reading progress.
Great app
Edit: I didn’t realize this, but this app DOES have the option to move multiple books into lists at once, which makes this app 6+ stars in my book! Thank you to whoever made this!
Does exactly what it needs to do and very little more. While I’d love a few features like the ability to select and move/organize multiple titles, this app is much more pleasant to use than Goodreads, and it’s private. I’m not one for comparisons or peer pressure, and the ability to do exactly what I want without comment is one that I treasure.
This app gives me that. I can quickly and easily scan books, and if the barcode doesn’t scan, the app searches the ISBN and pulls up results. I’ve never had an issue adding even obscure or older books.
I can add the same book to multiple lists. I have a list for my reading goals and will be making more for specific attributes like genre and length.
Perfect little app. All the features of other reading apps with no ads, no clutter, no premium features. I will definitely be tipping the creator often.
Very happy so far
I haven’t seen any ads. The app is very straightforward and easy to figure out. I didn’t encounter any limits on adding books. I like how elegant it is. I felt like other book-tracking apps were over-complicated. The features were so layered and I drowned in them. It distracted from the goal of reading and took up too much time. I feel more productive with this app. The interface is very clear. At a glance I can see my progress on several books. I like that I can edit the information for books and add custom covers because I have a lot of old books that have no ISBNs and are hard to find for sale or listed online. Thank you very much to the developer! It’s an underrated skill to know just what to include in an app and not to have too much. Less is indeed more when it means that you’re not drowned in complexity or unnecessary features and can get your work (in this case, reading) done so efficiently. :)
I just wanted to add that I’d love to see support for Roman numerals (they are usually used in the introductions and prefaces). I hope you consider adding that feature in the future. :)
A year later. Thank you still! Even more!
Great app! Love it! Thank you for your hard work in creating it and making it free and even seeing an issue I had brought up, contacting me about it directly, and updating it to fix that issue! Very cool!
After using the app for over a year now I still really love it! No bugs as far as I can tell.
The only other feature that would be cool to see (mostly for people that like seeing their reading progress) is to be able to see a summary of reading progress. We could see what dates we read and to what page instead of simply a progress and percentage “bar” after we logged a page. (Obviously, for this to work users would have to update their progress themselves which of course would be on them to do.)
But not sure I explained that coherently so..
For example, when the book is finished (or I guess at any point after starting a book and consistently logging current page) you could see a summary like:
The Stand by Stephen King
6/23 - Page 56 3%
6/25 - Page 135 9%
6/28 - Page 269 18%
...
8/2 - Page 1439 100%
Instead of one date and page number only.
But overall this app is one of my favorites!
No changes necessary!
Very appreciative for such a good app and great developer!
Excellent app!
I love this app! I do use Goodreads to track books but I wanted someplace non-social to track the spiritual books I read since people seem to be so judgy these days no matter what faith or eclectic spirituality you espouse. I was immediately impressed w this simple book tracker and how easy it is to look up books by barcode or title, author etc and add it to custom shelves, track your reading, add a rating. Not sure why book reading always has to be a social event, tied to social media, when it’s a mostly solitary endeavor. I love that I finally have a very nice non-social book tracker! Not all features are intuitive to figure out but there is a help menu that helped me figure out for example, how to add a book to a shelf. (Have to add book to Reading list first, then scroll to bottom of book description page to Manage Lists.) LOVE that I can have a book on multiple lists! In addition to categories & book club lists, I like to have lists that tell me whether the book is in Kindle, iBooks, physical etc so I can find the book if I want to re-read it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this app and tipping the developer if you like the app since it’s completely free to use. (Tipping is under the in app settings menu.)
A magical bookshelf
The app is fantastic: the interface is simple and beautiful, the actions are fast and clean, and the power of organization that it brings is revolutionary, especially to anyone reading 10+ books a year. I don’t review apps, but this app deserves attention.
There are some features that I wish it had. Perhaps similar apps have these, but if Andrew (the developer) implemented these small tweaks in the code, this would truly be top-of-the-line.
First, there is no way of indicating priority. You can emulate a priority list by dragging the titles into a custom order, but this is much more time-consuming than if you could just add, say a number between 1-5 as you add the book. As it is, I end up adding a ton of books and being unsure where to start.
Second, the current version doesn’t allow the user to add a newly added book directly into an organized “shelf”. To do that takes several extra steps, which is, again, time-consuming for those who read much.
Third, the organized “shelves” should offer more organization filters. So, besides “Author” and “Date finished”, it would be great if it could just filter all finished titles at the bottom by adding a “Finished” filter.
But all in all, it’s a great app. Thanks Andrew!
Life changing
I’m coming back to re-write this review. I’ve had the app for almost a year now, and I’m reading more than I ever did before. I attribute much of that to this app. For example—it’s the sixth of January and I have read four books already (I’m about to finish a fifth!). I really think being able to track how much I’m reading, how far I am in books, etc, has been really encouraging.
I tried lots of other book trackers before this. Goodreads, of course, but that was too clunky and I found that the review system of misleading. (Also, it felt like every recommendation was to read Harry Potter or Pride and Prejudice). I tried some others, many of which boast intense features like the exact amount of time spent reading, words per minute, and statistics surrounding every tiny detail. It was overwhelming. This app is right in the middle. It isn’t too much, and it really isn’t too little. I would recommend it to anyone who reads.
There are a couple updates I would like to see, though. First and foremost, I would love it if after a book is finished, it’s possible to write a short note about it. I’d also love to see a tab to add “Books I want to read.” But honestly, the app of just fine—better than fine, really—without them.
Again: HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
A very nice app that does what it should
I’ve been looking for this sort of app for a while, one that gave me a simple way to keep track of what I want to read without hooking me into social media, or Amazon, or any of those other annoying bells and whistles. It’s attractive, well thought out, and does exactly what it’s supposed to do.
A few small suggestions for improvement:
- There are currently 3 main headings: to read, reading, read. I’d like to see that user modifiable, or a more extensive list of possible headings that we could choose from. I personally wish there was a “purchased” section, so I can keep track of things I’ve managed to buy but haven’t started yet.
- I wish I could add books directly to lists as I import them, rather than import a book and then go back and figure out where it needs to be.
- When placing a book into a list, it first opens up with “add to new list” or “add to existing list”. You then click on add to existing list and it shows you the lists you have. There’s no need for two levels there. You could remove a step by having “add to new list” simply sitting above all the existing lists on a single page.
- And I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but it’d be nice if this synced over icloud between ipad and iphone, rather than using an export csv function. That said, at least you’ve made transfer possible, so thank you!
Easy to use and keeps me organized
This app is the best I’ve found. I am not interested in socializing my reading and just wanted something to help me keep track of what I read when. The interface of this app is intuitive and beautifully customizable that it accommodates me well on this front. I also wanted the prompt to force myself to reflect on a book for a few minutes before I jump right into the next. The rating and notes section is great for this.
The lists/labels is a feature I didn’t know I needed until I fell in love with it. I landed on categorizing by delivery type, genre, rating, and year (all with naming standards to keep the lists organized); each book gets multiple labels so I can “sort” in different ways. This practice for me has also solved the problem that quite a few reviewers have brought up of re-reading books and wanting to record them. While not as clean as a native re-read feature, labeling by year means a book can be on multiple year lists, and thus be “recorded” multiple times (the caveat here is that I have to actively try not to re-read a book in the same year if I want the record). I think a few other issues reviewers have brought up can be solved with lists also (e.g. wish list, prioritization of to-read, etc.).
For improvements, I am waiting patiently for a syncing feature. The import/export is easy enough, but I always forget to do it before I want access on a different device.
Kudos to the developer. You’ve put together a wonderful resource for all us readers out there.
Finally a reading app that tracks reading well!
Edit: It’s been a year or two since my last review, and I’m still loving this app, and I use it pretty much every day! I so appreciate the new updates to track re-reads. Definitely tip the developer if you use this app a lot like me! I so appreciate that it’s being maintained and improved! :D
This app is exactly what I’ve been searching for literally all year. The UI is so much easier on the eyes than other sites and apps, and the overall functionality is very intuitive. The search function is so much better than any other site I’ve tried as well. I can spend less time configuring my lists and more time actually reading because lists are much quicker to create using it! This app isn’t bogged down with features most people won’t use, which in other apps equates to a lot of visual noise. This app even allows you to create custom lists! And I love that it correctly pulls the cover of the book you list so you can skim your lists quicker. I’m so appreciative to have this app after searching through so many apps and sites all year. It’s incredible how hard it is to find a reading app that helps you track your reading with a sleek UI, so thank you to the developer! The only feature I can see being something I’d love to have in the future would be a way to set reading goals for the year/month/etc. so I see some kind of progress meter (just a nice motivator to have). But with the custom lists feature, I can still create what lists I’d like to get through in a given year, so even that isn’t essential. Seriously love the app and hope it continues to be updated! :)
This app is beyond five starts
Okay, I don’t usually write reviews on apps cause I think it’s tedious, even though thoughts are what apps thrive on to get opinions to improve the app. But in this case, I will since I love to read books. Since I started back to reading books and I was curious if there was an app to keep track of books I've read, finished, or started to read. Then I came to this app and surprisingly fell in love with the app. Like I said before, I usually don’t write reviews because I think they're very tedious, yet this app deserves 20/20 beyond five stars. So to the creator and the team of this app, thank you for putting so much thought into this app for us readers to keep track of our books.
But there is one thing I want to see when searching for a book in the search bar. I would like to know if we can click on multiple options of the books that we see are interesting, or if we want to look up an author and other books by that specific author, we have the choice to choose other books by that particular author/or by a different author. Like for example, having a circle check mark by the book and looking at other options by that specific author or another author. After looking at books that look interesting to the reader, they would click on ‘Next’ before accepting ‘Next.’ The app can verify the books they have selected and add them to the list of readings.
I hope this makes sense to the app's creators because it's tiresome to click on one book and look up another book by the same author. Or if the reader sees a book that looks interesting but doesn't know the name of that book while looking for a specific book they’re trying to find, they find it. Still, if they also come across another book that looks interesting, they would have to write that book down on a piece of paper or screenshot it. That would also be very tiresome.
So if you're a reader considering getting this app, do it.
The perfect book list app
I never write reviews, but I think Andrew deserves some recognition for creating such an amazing app.
I really wanted a way to organize all the books I would like to read and have read and I did not like goodreads for the social aspect and general layout.
Reading List has been perfect. It is completely customizable. I can search for the books and then rename the subtitles as needed. If I can’t find a book I can easily add it by copying the description and photo from amazon and pasting it into the app. (You don’t have to copy the description and photo, I just like the way it looks).
Being able to organize the books into different lists has been awesome because I can organize by series, by author, by order of books I want to read...the possibilities are endless!
The only issue I had with the list feature was that there wasn’t a way to easily search for the list I wanted to add a book to which meant I had to scroll through all the lists to find it. For me that was well over a hundred lists. Yes, I know I am obsessed with reading and list making. So I reached out to Andrew (I feel like we are on a first name basis now, lol) and he responded within a day or two and created the feature I needed to be able to type the list into a search bar and have it come up to easily add the book to it. It was awesome that I could connect with the developer of the app so easily and that he was willing to create the feature I needed.
Now the app is perfect for me and I payed the $9.99 for the pro to be able to sync the list between my iPad and iPhone. For me that is well worth the money and I think Andrew should be getting compensated for all his hard work.
I highly recommend this list for anyone who loves to organize and create lists. I had been using an excel spreadsheet and had over 700 books on it. I know it’s a little dorky to make an excel spreadsheet but that is just me I guess. It was tedious and complicated and I love being able to have the covers of the books and organize into lists which just looks nice in my opinion.
Way to go Andrew!

Zero stars. I was charged for an app that was advertised as free. Don’t “get” this app because that means “buy” this app.

Scanned my library but can’t find it
It was very easy to scan my library into this app (hence the 2nd star) - or so I thought several weeks ago.
Today I went to add a few more books, and the app is pristinely empty (hence the one star).

I was so excited about this app. I spent yesterday afternoon putting my books in it on my ipad. This morning I see that on my iphone it is empty. I am not spending another afternoon re-entering everything on my iphone. I’m disappointed.

Very Disappointed
I scan my Ethic book that I have to read for class. It is totally boring to read and I have a quiz coming up. So believe how disappointed I was when I push start to read and it say it reading , but I don’t here a sound. I am glad I didn’t have to pay for this app.

Don’t update the app !
DON’T UPDATE THE APP !
With this new update the developer is basically cheating/forcing you to pay up $10 to have iCloud sync feature ! iCloud sync is very basic feature which shouldn’t be used as ransom for $10. I understand the developer should be compensated but for extra/premium features not like this. AGAIN DON’T UPDATE THE APP !

Not a fan
This app seemed like it would be great for what I needed. I have a book problem so I wanted to list all my books that I have that I haven’t read. This includes books on my kindle which I can’t use the barcode scanner. For some reason when I look up the book and select it it gets put in twice. When I delete 1 it deletes both entries. This is making my count incorrect and it is a pain to add then delete then add again. I won’t be using this anymore.

Love it! But
Love it! But, I only gave it a star because the primary reason I downloaded this app as opposed to another app is because it has the scan book option to add books. Problem is that it says it needs permission for camera, but there is no way to give permission because it is never requested by this app and it doesn’t show up on my iPod settings and it also doesn’t show up in the app settings either. There is a pop up notification that says I need permission but it never shows up once the menu is open. Also I tried to contact app support but it takes me To description of app instead of contact page.
