On 01/29/12 I reserved a campsite with reserveamerica.com. I have reserved campsites with trust and confidence for years with Reserve America. According to their customer service department, the parent company of Reserve America is The Active Network, Inc ., which operates Active.com. Active.com fraudulently took my credit card information and charged a subscription fee of $59.95 to join active.com. No permission was given. After discovering this unauthorized charge on my credit card statement, it took me a great deal of effort to determine what had transpired. A Google search of “active.com complaints” turned up numerous similar complaints from victims all over the united states, not just here in California. Apparently the scam is wide spread. My money was refunded but they had the use of funds, until I called and had the charges reversed. My son was also a victim of this same scam a month earlier but he never figured out the connection between reserve America and active.com. This is a very serious problem, since the only place a California resident can reserve a campsite space at a state park is through Reserve America. Upon calling active.com to have my charges reversed, I asked to speak to a supervisor to discuss the matter. He apologized and tried to convince me that the error was inadvertent and that I had probably accidently pressed and opt in button. This absolutely was not the case and it is my belief that active.com is scamming a large number of people with misuse of secure credit card data. The State Of California should demand that Active.com immediately cease and desist from this activity and a formal investigation into the business practices of Reserve America should be launched.
Ive been a customer of Active.com fo years. Your problem is that you didnt read. When you are checking out, it clearly asks you if you want to sign up for the Active Advantage membership. If you dont want it, call them and they will credit you. Learn to read when you sign up for something.
@John, I did read it through and I did say no thanks (I always do and always watch out for that), but they still enrolled me in the advantage member program (even though their website says I'm not enrolled and they couldn't provide me any conformation, not even a membership or account number). They charged my card without my consent or knowledge... I did read... and I did say "no thanks." When I asked them to provide confirmation showing this supposed consent the Active representative replied, "We have your email address and that's all the consent we need." I'm not kidding, they actually said this to me on the phone. The fact that they have my bank account information and email address from the race somehow proves that I willingly signed up. I am angry.
A charge of $9.95 to make res. A charge of $9.95 to cancel plus the original $9.95 for making the reservation. The campsite was $20.00. It cost $20.00 to cancel. These guys suck!
I paid my $18 to stay at Bottomless Lake State Park. Reserve America states the park has showers, THEY DO NOT! This is the only reason that I came here! They need to not state something that isn't true! And I might add, as a taxpayer owned facility it should cost nothing...oh that's right, only the wealthy are alowed to use the parks!
