(I'm finding all this out while auditing my mom's finances.)

This guy has scammed my mother out of over $10, 000 this past year doing repeated, unnecessary work. Charges an outrageous amount of money ($1900/day when he pays the day laborer from Home Depot $200 to do the work - while he stands in the shade with his arms folded), does shoddy work (charged $1200 to fix what he screwed up earlier in the year), didn't connect sidewalks at corners because it was too difficult.

He's great at scamming vulnerable, elderly people. Always keeps coming back and saying, oh, looks like you need that done, too. Repeats until he thinks he's scammed all he can that month. Shows up again in a few months.

Probably doesn't report the income since he runs right down to the bank and cashes the check over the counter.

Has 30+ court cases against him in San Mateo County. Has been cited and arrested for contracting without a license.

Beware!

He came to my mothers house on Sunday Nov. 4, 2018 wanting to trim her trees. They negotiated a price and he wanted to be paid up front. She only agreed to pay 1/2 up front and the rest when the job was done. He started the work (after taking the check to the bank). He left and said he would be back the next day. She told him she would not be home all day and what time to come.
He came the next day first time while she was not home but did not ring the bell. He came back later after she had left again and I spoke to him. He wanted to do much more trimming than originally discussed and was trying to tell me one tree was dead that was fine. When I told him what he could trim he said no- he wanted to talk to my mother only. I asked him to clean up the branches he had already cut on Sunday and he said no-he would pick them up all at the end.
He returned on Tuesday Nov. 6th and spoke to my mother and they negotiated a price for a little bit of trimming not originally discussed. He tried to get double the amount but she said no only $100.00 more. He had a helper with him and said he needed all the remaining money right away to put in the bank while the helper worked. When he returned they only worked a short while and left. Branches in front yard were cleaned up but all the branches in the back yard are still there and we will have to hire someone to remove them.
Unfortunately, she never got anything but his name- no phone or address. I guess we are lucky we only got left with branches to clean up and the trees did get trimmed.
