Recording of shows is forbidden
I have been a loyal customer of Sky Angel for many years. Even though the IPTV format is inconvenient and a pain due to frequent buffering, I have endured the hassles. They notified us in the Fall of 2011 that they were changing the set-top boxes, which were supposed to be a great improvement. I paid $170 for two of them and waited 3 months for them to arrive. When they came in, the boxes could not be activated online according to the enclosed directions, so I had to call and be on hold for a very long time. They advised that they knew that the on-line instructions wouldn't work. (Why didn't they tell us?) However, I got the new set boxes activated and replaced the old ones. There were no new features to the new box - only that the remote looked more user friendly.
Later, I tried to record a show onto my DVD recorder and suddenly got an error message saying, "This program is not allowed to be recorded." I tried every channel and got the same message! I contacted SkyAngel via email and got a reply that recording shows was NOT ALLOWED! I called customer service and was told the same thing - NOTHING can be recorded (even though there was no problem recording before)! They would not even allow me to change back to the old box I had replaced!
I am very upset and angry about this! There was absolutely NO PREVIOUS WARNING that this useful, important, and valuable feature would be suddenly stripped away. In fact, you can get DVRs from other providers for the purpose of recording shows.
NO OTHER TV service forbids you from recording anything! It is absolutely wrong to do this to customers!

I have had sky angel for years. At one point considered the lifetime subscription, but seemed too good to be true. Turns out it was, poor folks who spent so much to help this company get established, just to be thrown to the curb. My complaint is over the last straw with this company. I have had numerous problems with actually getting any service, but kept it as my only option because I refuse cable due to content and wanted a christian alternative. I put up with lousy service through their sattelite and rejoiced when they went iptv. I thought that my problems were solved. Not so. I spent close to a year believe it or not without any service. All the while paying monthly automatically on my credit card. No one could help us solve the problems and we rarely had the time to mess with the numerous things we had to do to find out what was wrong. I figured no big deal, I will pay monthly anyway as it is a christian company, kind of like a donation I felt. Anyway, eventually we got someone who told us we needed a new box. Ok, this time we were paying monthly for a box too. Get that, same problem, after numerous attempts, we finally get this nice lady who actually spent time helping us unlike the others who were too eager to give up and get off the phone. She told us the problem was a connector, she was right. So, I guess our old box did work afterall! We had great service finally. Now 2 months ago, our new box stops working. Called several times, did all kinds of moving large entertainment center, going room to room, and no one can help us. They kept telling us they would get their tech supervisor to call us. After several failed attempts for help, I did not pay my bill. I continued to try to get help and kept getting promised of a return phone call from this elusive tech supervisor. I then called to cancel one night because I was so fed up with the no return calls. Guess what I am told? They will call me in the morning to talk more about it! Since when do companies do this? I do not ever get the call and assume my account is cancelled. Not so, apparantly because I just got an email saying they cancelled me due to nonpayment! What nerve! This company has went downhill since the founder died and when they cheated all those lifetimers I knew it would come back on them. They must be so bad off now that they cannot even find time to talk to customers or even take checks or so I am told. They do no paper billing or accepting of paper payments. They apparently do not acknowledge phone calls either. They must be so desperate that they are cheating customers and won't even cancel accounts. I didn't know they didn't cancel because my box has been broken for months, I told them to look on my account and see all the notes, but so far no response by email. I hate that I have no option for television now, but I always felt I didn't want my money going to contribute to things like mtv. But now I feel my money going to them is almost as bad. Listen up stock holders of Sky Angel. Boot that son of the founder out of there. Not sure if they have stock holders since the lifetimers were the ones that invested, but someone do something, you are driving your customers away!

and honestly Im sad that Im finally forced to
cut my service.
Im sending the old and new box back to Sky Angel
I have endured so many issues.
Just last night with the new box the channels were buffering, losing
signal all night.
All the issues in the previous comment are exactly what Im feeling and going
through myself.
I feel sad that all the hard work, hours on the phone still has no resolve.

Manner NOT becoming to Christian co.!
This company gets worse with each passing day.
1-They are continuing to sell DBS (satellite) equipment and subscriptions KNOWING they will be switching to IPTV within 1 year. This will make equipment useless.
2-REFUSE to honor LIFETIME subscriptions and have demanded $5 ADDITIONAL a month or will turn off 4 channels ONLY from lifetime members! These channels have been part of ALL subs since first broadcast.
3- refuse to honor lifetime subscriptions for switch to IPTV.
4- Never launched Satellite as promised in 2002.

I want to join BUT! Christian radio is always going on about how cable customers should be able to buy only the channels they want. Skyangel is not listening. I have to buy the most expensive to get the few I want. So much for being better than the pagans
I gave sky angel a try for over a year. Between their servers being down for hours and days at a time. to there box going out. (the box went dead after 6 months) To their front line operators lying about their server status. ("I promise, ALL of our servers are up") then I asked to speak to there tech and he said 3 or 4 servers of their 6 were down for 5 days over thanks giving. Then they told me I could get out of the contract after being with them for a year for $39 dollars and return the box in good condition. Well the tech did not make notes and when I go to send it back in Sky Angel wants $70+ dollars with no trade in. Lie after Lie... So much for CHRISTIAN television.
I do not want to post the URL because that may be a violation of the board rules, but I think that those involved that have detailed information should feel free to contact consumer advocate Clark Howard regarding the dirty deeds of Sky Angel. Free publicity for Sky Angel in a negative light may bring some positive results. Just Google his name and there is a contact us link there. He is very well known and can make magic happen. It is time to take a stand!
I too purchased a lifetime subscription and am very upset that they are using a legal loophole for getting out of their "lifetime subs". What state are they based out of? I say its time for those that feel scammed by this alleged "Christian" company to stand up for strong moral values and challenge their scheme. If there is a good class action attorney out there willing to handle this case please let me know. Should you respond I will provide you with my contact information and many others I have met that too have been scammed by Sky Angel.
I actually have a different complaint. the reason I got Sky Angel was so Filthy things would not be filtered into my home. However, it seems to me that Sky Angel is beginning to look more like Sky Devil. Their NFL channel shows half naked cheerleader is bikinis posing provocativly for calanders. Their ION Channed shows half naked girls in Bikinies going on nature adventures, (GET OUT) How is a playboy bunny lookalike in a bikini riding a hore bareback Christian? It makes me sick. I thought if perverted men wanted to see that they were supposed to order Direct TV...Not Christian television. It makes no sense!
I had purchased a lifetime subscription when they first started. Without the lifetime partners funding their early days, they would not exist today. I really wanted to support a Christian Organization with Family only programming. Now they throw us under the buss. I cannot imagine a Christian =Organization even considering what they have done. I will support anything I can to correct this grave error. Starting with prayer. I feel this is a severe blow to the witness of Christianity to the World...God help them to correct this catastrophe.

I purchased 2 lifetime subscriptions at the beginning, now i find out they are no good. Not only no good but i had to find out on my own. if this is christian they need to re-read the bible. There was no notification by them. Perhaps a class action suit against them plus many complaints to the government agency which oversees their future ability to retain their license.
