Ok so we were late on our rumpke bill and they didn't take our trash. We payed up our bill and the next week they STILL didn't pick it up! I called them and they said they cancelled our service on May 31st yet they still picked up our trash in April. They never called or informed us in any way that our service was cancelled. I told her I wanted our trash to be picked up today...she said "Well your payment just went through today and we can't pick it up because they were already on your street." I said "Ok then I will find another trash company." To which she cheerfully replied "Ok, that's fine!"
This sounds about what my experience was like. I canceled my service in July when I moved, continued to receive bills. I called them about it and was told that there was no record of me canceling my service. I said I did call, the operator said No Problem, we'll take care of it. Then I get a notice from a collections agency. I call back; same old runaround. I'm told I have to send proof that I moved and pay for the month of July. It's December; way to wait to tell me that now! I ask to speak to a supervisor, she tells me the same thing. I explain that I am frustrated that none of this is my fault, that they are known for their less-than-stellar customer service, that this is an example of that, that I will never use their service again and that I will tell everyone about this. Her response? "Just send that proof that you've moved over here." Idiots.
Rumpke used to be a great companyu until Cincinnati cut themselves in on the action. Now if they miss you pick up it is your responsibility to let them buy the next day or they had a $50.00 fee to return to pick it up. Both Rumpke and City of Cincinnati are totally arrogant when it comes to paying them. It does not matter when it is their fault. You will pay. Cincinnati Water Works even worse.
After cleaning out a house I bought, I had a garage full of trash. I called Rumpke and the young lady told me about their pick up service where 2 guys come out in a large truck and load the trash for me. I explained that unless it's a semi trailer, I'd probably need 2 of them. She said, well it's a pretty big truck. I said ok and scheduled the service. When the guys got there, they drove up in a small dump truck. They looked at my trash and said their truck wasn't big enough. They were kind enough to tell me about Rumpke's Dumpster service where they drop off a dumpster, then come back and get it after I've filled it up. They explained it would be cheaper than them taking 2 of their truckloads. They also said they would still have to charge me for coming out but that they could pick up just 2 large items for a lesser charge than paying for the whole truckload. So I called in and paid the (I think it was around) $200 and sent them on their way. I then called Rumpke to schedule their dumpster service and the dumpster was delivered 2 days later. I loaded the dumpster and called to schedule for them to pick it up. They said they would pick it up on Monday and I didn't need to be there. I called them back when the dumpster wasn't picked up on Monday and the lady said if he didn't pick it up then he certainly would pick it up on Tuesday. Wednesday, when they still hadn't picked up their dumpster I called them and was told the driver came to pick it up but because there was a truck parked on the other side of my street, he couldn't pick it up. I explained that that wasn't my truck, that it was always parked there (just up from my driveway, not even directly across from my driveway) and if the driver had turned the other direction he could've gotten it out easily, and that he also could've walked across the street and asked the neighbor to move the truck and he would've. The young lady just said that wasn't the driver's job. I explained that it wasn't mine either and that the truck wasn't mine and it was parked legally on a public street. I went ahead and scheduled another time for them to pick up the dumpster and asked to speak to a supervisor. I left him a message, but of course no-one ever got back to me. They billed me for an extra $118 (above the $500 for the dumpster) for coming out the first time. I had decided not to pay it until I spoke with a supervisor but I'm wagering that the chance of them ever calling me are very slim, especially since I'm now getting calls from their collection company.
So to recap, I paid an extra $200 because the young customer service person didn't tell me about the dumpster service in the first place.
They never called me when they came to pick up the dumpster the first time, and it meant leaving their dumpster in my driveway for an extra 3 days.
And now they want and extra $118 for coming out and not picking up the dumpster even though another person's truck was on the street, the driver didn't care enough to at least attempt to get the truck moved before he just drove away, and the dumpster could've been gotten out anyway (I know this because the driver who dropped it off did it while the truck was there). Poor customer service all around I'd say.
