Mixed Experiences with SafeAuto Insurance
As someone deeply connected to the world of insurance, I understand the importance of finding a reliable and cost-effective provider. They may deserve more than an "ok" but
Here's the thing. Safeauto is actually Safe Auto Group Agency inc. "Group" is key here. This means Their group, and their main, one, insurance co. Is Millennial Specialty Insurance. That company is backed by underwriters, which means they are not insurance themselves as such, they just back millennial for a piece of the profit in case of big loss. In other words they are gambling investors.
What does this all mean to you? Well first it means your money is being spread around and Must cost you more than insurance from one individual company. That does not mean they are not competitive, but that no matter what they say their costs are higher... and etc. Neither do I like that they use the BBB as a qualification. Read mine, or virtually any other review here and you'll see why.
Other than that I don't have anything against them; for their ilk I'm sure they are as good as any, but. There's a better thing to do.
I was in the auto body business for 35+ years, and learned a lot about insurance companies. Across the board the biggest percentage of them are flat criminals, yet there are a few, the oldtimers, like Aetna and Travelers that take good care of you. That's one thing, and true enough, but they cost accordingly, and there is a better way; a way to get all the coverage you need, And want, for less than that high dollar coverage.
A truly independent agent is what you want. Don't be fooled by the word agent, or agency. They all, including this one, say that. This is a single person, usually, not counting a secretary or that. If some "agency" has "Reps" they are not the one. This will be an agent, one who takes you on as a client, and finds the right insurance for you from all the insurance companies there are. These others sell you insurance from Their company (more on that) or group, no shopping around. This is the main reason why you can never get the best money deal from a single company. You can get it all, and it may be good. Or not. But their price structure simply doesn't allow for the lowest prices across the board no matter what they claim.
So what else can, and will, an independent agent do for you? First, kno that they are the little guy. They Need your business to survive, unlike the biggies that only claim that customers come first. They will put together a package for you Without upselling a bunch of stuff you don't need. If you do have a claim they will see that you Actually get paid, and if you can't get enough from that, they will work it around so you do. If they possibly can, where No insurance company will do that. Their adjusters are there for the specific purpose of seeing that the company never pays one red cent more than they must.
How do they do this? The simplest of all market rules. They "buy" wholesale and sell retail, except it doesn't cost You! Agents, because they are agents, get to buy quantity, i. E. at discounted prices. You can't get those prices because you're not an agent, so he can get you exactly what you want, from any company one at a time for each segment (and there are thousands) for the very best price, his profit being the difference.
There's more as well. You not only get the benefit of the agent's experience, (above) but things you can't get otherwise. Say you want to go to Mexico or Canada. Your not covered unless you bought that ahead, and are paid up at some insurance company. You call your agent, and if he's a good one, he'll write up that coverage for you and let it lay in a drawer. If all's well when you go it goes in the trash, free. If you need it, however, he collects for it and sends it in. It's dated before you left... but can you even imagine an insurance company doing that for you?
Oh. One last thing. The difference between a broker and an agent (you'll see both) is big. The broker sells insurance (or real estate or whatever) and that's it, he's through with you. He works for himself! An agent on the other hand works for you.

What can I do. I need my insurance. They need to call me and give me answers.
I just got auto insurance on the 4th. Then they emailed me stating that I own 74.00 if I don't pay they will cancel my insurance. After I paid. The next day I get an email stating that I owe 256.00 dollars by the 14th of May. This all in two days after I paid them. They did this once before. What can I do I go in front of the Judge and county attorney on the 10th of May I have all my paper work. Showing what they have done. First time that had my VIN number wrong on my insurance card.

I had a account on February 5 and my vehicle was considered a total loss the company that’s sending the insurance check needs two specific pieces of information that miss Kelly Wei’s has but I’ve been call her and leaving messages since march with no response and this is hold me up from getting a replacement vehicle from my dealership it’s been two months since the decision was made and paperwork was filed I really need this information to to parent company issuing the check

A car settlement
Car stolen in the month of October. I have been calling to see what's going with my setlement. I have left several voicemails asking for a follow up for some time now and can't get anyone to call me back. If it takes some time I understand but don't leave a paying customer that was paying almost $600 a month faithfully in the blind. I can't get another vehicle until this settlement is official. Communication is all that I want to see what the holdup is.

Claim not being handled in a timely manner
I hit a deer driving home from work on Dec 8, 2022 and filed my claim the next day. Over a month went by and I heard nothing from my assigned adjuster; I called her every day and my calls went straight to voice mail, and none of my messages was ever returned, nor were my numerous emails. I finally got thru to her 1 month and 1 week later just to be told that my car was totaled, but that I had to be assigned to a new adjuster to proceed further, and that she would call me when I received the new adjuster. It is now Feb 9, over 2 months since my accident, and I still have not heard from her about anything, and all my calls and emails to her AND her manager go to voicemail and are unanswered. I have been a SAFE Auto customer for years and now that I need them to do their job they completely ignore me, ignore my calls and emails. The state I live in - Georgia - allows for 40 days after a claim is filed for it to be acted on and I am now over 2 months past my filing and still have not been taken care of and the frustration level is boiling. I have done nothing wrong and I expect Safe Auto to meet its legal obligation to me.
Desired outcome: I need to be contacted by my adjuster or her manager and be assigned to my new adjuster and receive my check so I may pay off my totaled car and buy a new one.
Insurance claim and supervision
My wife was in an accident and we have full coverage insurance through safe auto. Have talked to my claims rep 3 times and tried calling her superior and left 4 messages and no return call. Claim denied for having an expired drivers license during the accident. But was not cited for expired license. Been paying insurance for 4 years never late but don't want to cover. If any one asks me I think your insurance company is a scam cause this ain't the first time my immediate family have been screwed by this company. Been 3 weeks and until today did I find out that she is moving forward with a denied claim nothing like paying 200 a month for no reason.

My husband was in an accident on December 13, 2022. The driver did not have insurance but my husband had full coverage through safe auto. It has now been over a month and we have yet to find out what they are going to do about his vehicle. One representative said they’re going to total it, another representative said they are still looking, another representative said the vehicle was worth one amount another representative said it was worth a different amount. No one in this company can assist with anything. My husband has missed work due to no vehicle and may lose his job. This company has horrible customer service.
Desired outcome: Get the process moving so my husband can get back to work. Someone needs to be held accountable for poor communication.

I was very confused I didn’t think deer hit me I was correct not for but Buck he ran thru windshield. I still have issues with back and neck. Glass busted in windshield tire on passenger side both front bumpers husband bolted on. Radiator pushed forward engine and other light on. Air works at times. Property damage money release
I have been helped by multiple providers from your company and the beginning stage of this whole situation was great , patiently waiting on new updates and was being told what was going on. Now that we’re at the end and months after this hit and run by your drunk driver , now that I’ve signed a release stating the money for my losses and release for it , I’m being told that it’s to come and take my car. Which I was asking why would you take my car if the money I’ve been waiting for to fix my car is what was being released and explained to me. I’m not going to send my title for then somehow take over my ownership ? That’s not going to happen. That’s my personal piece of information that should not be shared with anyone unless I’m selling it or getting rid of it myself. I have this claim filed for almost a week now but I haven’t been able to get in touch with the adjuster(Christine Hardnett) yet. Tried emailing and calling her several times but she won’t just respond. I even tried reaching out to her manager again with no luck. I am without a car for almost 10 days now. I am unable to get a rental car because I haven’t been able to speak with the adjuster. The repair shop is also unable to start fixing my car since they have also not been able to get in touch with her. I need this to be escalated and some urgent action on this. My husband was in an accident with a safe auto client. It was not my husbands fault we have a police report and witness. The accident happened 8/14/22 over 7 weeks ago. We have not talked to one person that can tell us what’s going on. We were told Nakira is dealing with this claim, but Nakira does not respond to emails or calls. She actually put my husband on hold a few weeks ago for 22 minutes then click.. hung up. He called back and got the answering machine. That was the first time he actually heard her voice… this is ridiculous! I’ve now contacted my insurance company and they’re trying to get ahold of Nakira.. no luck. In the meantime someone is being charged daily for my husband truck sitting at the garage. My insurance has never dealt with anything like this… beyond frustrated!

On August 25, 2022, Albigale Murphy (member), ran into the back of my husband's vehicle. A claim was filed on August 26, 2022; Gretchen Johnson is the Adjuster. She has communicated only one time. Numerous calls have been made to Ms. Johnson. Since Ms. Johnson has refused to return a call, I reached out to her supervisor, Erica Funderburker. At that time, Ms. Funderburker was on vacation. On August 29, calls were made to both Ms. Johnson and Funderburker, to no avail. I am left with no recourse by to contact Pennsylvania Insurance Commission and lodge a complaint. This is the worst insurance company that I have ever encountered. These employees are working from home with the freedom to "not work".
Desired outcome: The desired outcome is for SafeAuto to do their job and handle the claim appropriately.

Windshield replacement
My name is John Dye [protected] I had an appointment this morning 8/26 for my windshield to be replaced. The technician was a no call no show. I called the toll-free number at noon. I was told I would receive a call back. No return call so I called again at 2:15 pm. I was told that if the tech is able to get the part they will be out. I understand that rescheduling happens but not to contact me to let me know what is going on is bad business. I took a day off to resolve this and my day has been wasted. Nobody likes having their time wasted. How are you planning on accommodating me this situation?

The Policy Is Terrible
Hi I am highly upset with Safe Auto, because my car was stolen on 7/11 from my driveway in the middle of the night. I had instantly reported a claim and try to have this situation resolve quickly as possible; however, this insurance is terrible and do not communicate with you. I had my car found and recovered by the police by 7/15 and there was a nice amount of damage to the car. However, they had assigned an appraiser and he claims that the car is fixable, but from the details of the report I feel there is a lot of work needed and this car will not operate the same. In addition, I kept leaving the adjuster messages and to keep me inform, but did not hear back from him until 8/4. I have been truly disgusted that I am being held to keep paying my policy and making payments on time when they are dragging there feet on fixing my car or better yet give me a check to get another automobile. I feel that I am living in my worst nightmare now, and cannot believe that this company is being able to operate providing this type of service. In addition, my adjuster stated for me to find a location to have my car moved and I have not heard from him or the place I had chosen has not received the car. I have been leaving message for him over and over and no progress. I am planning on obtaining a lawyer and fight against this company, and the bad part is that I am becoming financially drained paying for my own rental out of pocket. I want you to be aware that Safe Auto Insurance is one of the worst car insurances around, and if you have it, please change it immediately. I had my car stolen over 4 weeks ago and living the worst nightmare of my life. First it took a while for my car to be removed from the impound when it was recovered, and to a location that it could be appraised to see if it is still fixable. Finally, just a week ago the appraiser evaluated the car, and think it's repairable. However, looking at the car damage, and the amount of work that need to be done this will take months and no collision car shop wants to take on the work for the cheap amount they are looking to pay them. Also, Safe Auto does not pay for a car rental when it is a theft situation, and I am on my own out of pocket to pay for a rental which is so dam expensive. I wish I had never purchased this insurance and should have switch a long time ago, because they poorly communicate with you and have no empathy for no one. The sad part of this situation is that my car might take months to get repaired, and more than likely will not work the same again. I have never seen a company that treat people this horrible, and do not value their customers. Overall, I pay my car insurance on time and never miss a payment with them. I think today was the last draw for me, because they had me searching for locations to have my care fixed. However, I felt that they should have had a location and not me. I am telling you this company does not care how long I will be without my car and the financial strain this has put on me to go back and forth to work. I cannot wait until this nightmare is over, because I am going to get rid of this [censored]ty insurance. I hope everyone really drop this policy, because again they do not care about their customers it's about saving money for the company.
Failure to repair my vehicle
On 26 March 2022 Brittany M Harris, insured by Safe Auto, Policy number TX003G19257A-00, ran into the back of my wife in Murphy Texas, while on her cell phone. My wife contact the Murphy Police Department, although Mrs. Harris texted her insurance to my wife and left the scene. Once the Police arrived, Mrs. Harris refused to return to the scene, stating in text, she did not want to get a ticket.
On 26 March 2022, I contacted Safe Auto and filed claim # [protected]. I received a voice mail from Carina Smith, claims adjuster with a return phone number of [protected] ext. 70022. The return phone number does not work and has not worked to this date.
I have provided photos of the car through the Safe Auto app and my wife has conducted a phone interview. We have provided all information requested.
We were told to take our vehicle to a repair shop after receiving an estimate letter and pick up the rental car. I called Safe Auto the next morning, the morning we were dropping off our car and picking up the rental car and was told the repairs were not approved due to Safe Auto not being able to make contact with Mrs. Harris. It has not been ten days and we are still being told we can not get our car repaired.
Carina Smith will not take my phone calls and I have had to talk to other claims adjusters who call Mrs. Smith and return to me telling me that Mrs. Smith is going to call me. Still, 10 days later, no call no repaired car.
Desired outcome: Repair our vehicle and provide a rental car for the entire process of our vehicle being repaired

My car was drivable prior to the accident. I was hit while i was sitting at a red light. The driver was bending down to pick up a vape that he dropped and hit me in the rear. Safe auto is the car insurance that the vehicle he was in is covered by. The next day after the accident my check engine light came on. it began to drive like it was going to turn off. It was hestiating to drive. I was waiting for safe auto to get me a rental by the time I got the rental the car was not driving well. There was also lots of damage to the rear of the car and internal. The car was towed to Robbies Auto body shop in Winchester VA and they were able to fix as much as they could but their equipment was not able to detect the other issues and recommended that I take it to Malloy body shop which is a dealership in the same town because the car was still undrivable. I reached out to Safe Auto and was informed that they will pay for diagnostics and the tow once the car is released from Robbies. The car as of today is still not released because Safe auto said the check was mailed last wedsnesday 10/13/2013 and they told me this last thurs. When I spoke to safe auto yesterday the said the check was just mailed on 10/20/2021. So my car will not be released until the check is received at Robbies Auto body shop. Safe auto is now refusing to extend my rental and has said the last date they will pay is 10/13/2021. Which is not what they told me on 10/14/2021. I was told to keep the rental and they will pay for it until we get the outcome from Malloy's auto body shop. Now Enterprise Rental has charged me for the amount that Safe Auto is responsible to pay and I am out of a vehicle to get to work.
