Scribd inc / unauthorized credit card charges.
I started a free trial on Scribd, and cancelled my membership during the free trial. But SCRIBD is trying to charge $8.99 on my credit card.
I logged in to Scribd to certify it was cancelled - "Your membership expired on 2017-05-22". The credit card number associated with it is also different to the credit card I have been charged for.
I can not delete my account on the site or erase my credit card information!
I need urgent help or I will try to cancel it judicially because I have the proof of cancellation done

I paid 8.99 for the use of their site for 8.99 month. I cancelled this last month and they issued a credit but now this month the charge for 8.99 has appeared again on my credit card. The rep assured me I was taken off the charge list and would no longer receive charges. But I was charged on my current April Am ex card. Please refund and insure that I won't be ever charged from this company again.

Unauthorized cancellation of my subscription by stupid support person
I bought a gift subscription for a friend. He was not able to access the gift subscription, and I attempted to contact support several times for help. When I finally received help an [censored] - Gina M - cancelled MY SUBSCRIPTION not the gift subscription.
It has been impossible to get in touch with anyone for help. This is outrageous. I am going to find the VC investors and write them about this rotten service.
Unauthorized credit charges
There has been three subscription fee charges of $8.99 to my credit card under the name of Scribd Inc Sanfrancisco CA. I have literally never EVER used Scribd services and certainly do not remember signing up for the account in the first place. Heck, I have never even heard of Scribd or know what the site is. You can track my activity and refer to my having spent ZERO time using Scribd. I am absolutely SHOCKED that I had been charged for the past three months for something I don't even know what is.
I am a college student and do NOT have the funds to pay for and will NOT pay for UNAUTHORIZED CREDIT CHARGES.
I have sent all the bank statements that show the SCRIBD charges on my account. Please cancel this payment from now onwards and make arrangements to refund ALL the money you have been charging to my credit card, or I will send a follow up email explaining the consequences for UNAUTHORIZED CREDIT CHARGES.
I will rate your customer service based on how you handle things from here on and will make sure to inform my blog followers on this issue if not resolved properly and in time.
If I am not responded to and fully refunded I will pursue a legal report, so I recommend you fulfill your 'customer care' duty and do as I request ASAP.
Unauthorised credit card charge!!
Last month, I started a free trial on Scribd, and cancelled my membership during the free trial.
Yesterday (25th April) I was charged $8.99 on my credit card! I didn't even receive a receipt of this charge in my email.
So, I logged in to Scribd to certify it was cancelled, and yes: "Your membership expired on 27/03/2018".
I want a refund as soon as possible! It's an expensive value taking in account the exchange rate in my country.
I didn't get any prior notification or a receipt from Scribd, save from my credit card app that informed me the charge. I already wrote emails to [protected]@scribd.com and to [protected]@scribd.com, and didn't receive an answer yet.
Scribd provided the debit reversal.
Money being withdrawn from my account
Hello, I had a membership lasting 60 days with your service in which I cancelled on 13/4/18 as to not have money taken off my card, after I had money I was going to come back to scribd as I enjoyed the service 2 days later on the 15th money was still taken out after I had cancelled it and now I am overdrawn from the bank and have no money to pay it. If this problem could be resolved I would greatly appreciate it thank you for your time

There was an unauthorized credit card changes with Scribd Inc at 14/04/2018 although I've never made an account with it before, So I think it was a credit card fraudulent transaction without getting the owner permission or notice. So I need to cancel out this transaction and kindly refund to my VISA Card.

Unauthorised membership
I opened a trial account with scribd some two months back. Then when the trial account period was over, neither did I open my scribd account even once nor did I renew my membership. Now suddenly this month when I was going through my bank account statement, I found they have been charging me for premium membership since the last two months. And all these without my prior knowledge. I have emailed this issue to their support center but still now there has been no reply whereas the claim to reply to all valid refund mails within 48 hours.
I don't know now how to recover my money back and how to stop this membership from continuing any further.

My daughter told me she did't receive anything from Scribd anyway! It's illegal and unreasonable to charge for 3 months without any NOTICE!

Charging
Scribd is a joke. I am not the type of person to ever write reviews online but this is how much I passionately hate this company. I canceled my account for several times but Scribd, for some reason, is still taking money out of my account. I don't even have a membership! On top of this, these people have no customer service number so you can call and defend yourself. They have taken out around £20 out of my account and I wonder when they are going to realise that I do not subscribe!
Please. Please. Stay away!

i've been looking at my credit card bills for past several months, i noticed theres 8.99 charges from Scribd Inc. i already cancelled my membership since february 2018. i tried to ask this to Scribd Consumer Services, and they said if there's still charges, that means I need to contact my credit card company, not scribd.

I cant find my previous conversation with scribd customer service who said i should contact my credit card company for this kinda issue.
But, after Gina helped me, i found out that there was an another email account, mine, who is used to subscribe. All things are good now.
The fault is mine, not Scribd.

Automatic renewal
I was charged automatically to renew my account from scribd without any sort of notice or email confirmation. Being aware of such auto renewals, I insured that I removed my card number from the subscription upon sign up so that when it was due for renewal, it would either be automatically cancelled or I would be notified that a payment was due if I wished to continue membership. However, for two months credit was removed from my Apple credit without notification or my approval and my card was recently charged to make up the deficit. No card was on file and I have screenshots to prove this, so this billing is unjust and false advertising when I was assured that there was "no card on file"; I am very dissatisfied. Although I have enjoyed your services, I would have expected some sort of email or notification and would like some sort of compensation for this. Thank you.

I signed up for a free trial on 2/28/18 and couldn't find the information that I needed so immediately went to cancel it only to be offered for an additional 30 days of free usage. I decided to go ahead with keeping it but then I got a charge of $8.99 on my credit card for membership. Now going back and forth with Support to get a refund. Have provided screenshots of the account stating it should be free but the representative Max V keeps saying that I need to show the email stating I signed up for a free trial. I want my money back and I plan to contact my attorney on Monday about this matter to see what my rights are and how I can get my money back.

They stole my money for 14 months
I was a student when I first used scribd with the free trial. I canceled it and nothing. For the next 14 months, my credit card was drained. NO EMAIL, NO NOTHING that they were stealing my money. I opened support tickets(1572443, 1585736) but the only thing was to refund two months from the total 14. OUTRAGEOUS! I don't know why they do not solve this problem since that many people have it..They say that they want to solve it..but they just don't..Its frustrating!
A serious company would solve this issue for old and for the next customers.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I have been informed by my American Express Card company that a charge of US$ 8.99 is being made every month starting September 2017 till date for no reason. Can you please check and have these charges reversed with immediate effect because this is apparently happening because of a system glitch.
I am enclosing my American Express Credit Card Statement with entries for the charges against Scribd. I hope you will take immediate action and let me know.

Hi, I am not a frequent user of SCRIBD.Today I checked my bank account transactions and was very shocked and surprised to see that SCRIBD has been charging me $8.99 right from 11/14/2016 till this date.With smartphones, it's very easy to check emails these days.I checked all my emails, user Ids that I have ever used to login to Scribd including iTunes store account.It's very clear that I have never set any payment and also there's not even a single reminder mail about the recurring payment happening all these years.This is a total rip off.I request you to Kindly refund my amount of $ 143.84 and not charge my account any further.

I was charged in August 2017 $8.99, and they continue to charge me every month. I have sent several e-mails trying to tell Scribd to stop. Ticket #1503372, and #1583348.
I have reversed charges on my credit card for two months. But Scribd keeps charging. Scribd charges their business description on your bill. They have changed from "BUSINESS SERVICE, " to "MISC/SPECIALTY RETAIL, " to "DIRECT MKTG MISC."
Scribd now owes me an outstanding balance of $35.96, but they can't locate my account. Instead Scribd keeps asking more, and more invasive questions about my credit card or e-mail accounts which opens me up to further fraud risk.
I have asked for information regarding how this account was opened, but they have not provided me with anything. No enrollment date, no activity log, no contact information during registration.
My last resort is to cancel my credit card. Scribd.com has been unable to stop me for the past 4 month I've been communicating with them.
Below is a list of their responses.
1) There are no records of any purchases from Scribd associated with your name or your email address. If the charge is not listed as being from "SCRIBD.COM" then it was made by another company, and you will need to contact that company for assistance.
2) Thank you for contacting Scribd! We're more than happy to help. In reviewing your request, I'm afraid I don't have the tools needed to best assist you, but not to worry! I'm forwarding your request over to our team of support specialists who are better equipped to assist you with this issue.
3) I can confirm that we are still working to locate the account that you were paying for. However, I can confirm that there are 8 other users that made payments within the same date range with cards matching the same last 4. Could you please provide us with the expiration date on the card. This will assist us in locating the correct transaction.

Monthly charges not authorized
I noticed an $8.99 charge on my bank account. I don't have any app on my phone for this service nor have I used or authorized a charge. As far as I can tell this just started this month. I can' t cancel from the app because I don' t even have an account with them. I sent an email to get this resolved but no response yet. If needed I will have my bank investigate. I am curious as to how they received my banking info. As stated I don't have this app on my phone nor would I ever want it.

Monthly charges to credit card
Pretty much just echoing everyone else's complaints on here. I just realized I've been getting charges from Scribd for &8.99 for the past 6 months +. A quick email search and I have no record of anything associated with a Scribd account. When I call the Scribd customer service, I get a recorded message instructing me to send an email to [protected]@scribd.com. The second phone number listed is just a fax machine. Something very shady about this whole setup. If I still lived in San Francisco, I'd certainly pay them a visit in person..
