Unethical Business Practices
On 12/2017, I attempted to purchase a game controller on the smartgames.com site. I accepted an offer for free shipping which I found out unknowingly opted me into a recurring membership to the tune of $9.95/mo. The controller was never shipped due to being out of stock and the order was cancelled. Unfortunately, I noticed on 10/2017 that I had been charged the membership fee of $9.95/mo for the last 22 months! Emails were sent to me from BBV but nothing referenced the membership or the fees. The ONLY way I discovered this was by questioning the charge from BBV games that had flown under the radar all this time.
I made 2 calls yesterday to their customer support number and was refunded for 2 months. The rep told me I needed to call their corporate office after 9am EST tomorrow. The rep at the corporate office refunded 4 additional months but no more. According to her, there was NO ONE else available to escalate the issue by phone or email. The only avenue was to send a letter by postage mail to their dispute department (which does not take phone calls).
Performing a simple Google search of "bbv games" will provide links to quite a large number of virtually identical complaints. While I did (unknowingly) accept the terms of the (supposed) offer, I feel that BBV went out of their way to hide this information AND did not offer any additional information regarding the charges. Again, search results "bbv games" make this fact crystal clear.
My advice from experience is to NOT PURCHASE FROM SMARTGAMES.COM or any other aliases that may be masking BBV Games.

bogus monthly Visa charge
My complaint is very similar to those listed on this website. I ordered a Wii game at Christmas from this company for the grandsons, and have been paying a $9.95 fee to them on my monthly Visa bill ever since. I didn't connect that this was an illegitimate fee until today with the arrival of my statement for April. That makes 4 mos. of such payments. I called their number and was told I had agreed to this fee after getting free shipping on the Wii game, totally untrue. After pushing hard, operator finally agreed to cancel this month's fee and reimburse me for 2 earlier payments. We'll see if that happens. Beware! This is such a scam!
Unauthorized Charges
I purchased a Wii game from this company online at a good price but when I got my Paypal bill they added two more charges on it totaling 10.95. When I phoned this company, I was told that I had signed up for a membership with them which I am certain I HAD NOT. The woman I talked to said they would gladly remove the charges for me. It just goes to show you how important it is to check your credit card statements. Even though the price of the game was good, I will NEVER buy from them again. This is definitely a scam! P.S. I pasted the web address in the space provided above but, can tell you it's also under Smart Game Shopper.

I bought one Wario game for my son and now am getting monthly charges of 9.95:

Thank you for posting this ! I bought a game for my son from them for Christmas and they added this "membership" fee to my caredit card on two separate occasions. I just cancelled the so called "membership". What a scam this is ! WARNING TO ALL - DO NOT BUY FROM THIS E-TAILOR!
Samething happened to me! An electronic monthly rape of $9.95. Pittsburgh
Hi there,
I'm Jeff from the {SmartGameShopper.com/BestBrandValues} Support Team.
I am sorry for the inconvenience caused.
Regarding your concern of automatic sign up, we do not offer a mandatory membership and you can choose whether to join the membership and order or whether to order without joining the membership. Also, the membership sign up is not automatic, and you have to agree to the Terms of Offer of membership on the checkout page to join the membership. The Terms of Offer are very clear on the checkout page and you have to agree to them in order to place the order and join the membership.
If you join the membership then you are entitled to many membership benefits like special $5.00 discounted price for first item, free shipping for first item and wholesale prices for all ordered items. If you had not joined the membership then these benefits would not have been applied to you.
We try to help all our customers to the best of our abilities. Our representatives are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Same here--total scam. Stay away!
I bought one Super Mario Bros video game and was billed every month without knowing it! This is a scam!
Unauthorized billing
This company has been billing me for this gamesite when I never signed up for it and never ordered anything from them. I did call them and they said they will submit a refund and cancel my account. I have no idea how they even got my debit card number to charge me in the first place.l

Yet another scam that claims you signed up for their service and start billing you for it, even though you don't have it and never had it! Boy, these people are ballsy. I see others were charged $19.95 a month. I was charged $9.95 for three months. Didn't notice until the third billing ... That $9.95 was flying under the radar. I called them, complained and "cancelled" my "membership." Also filed complaint with my credit card company. Proves once again that you should always doublecheck check every item on your card statement.
I had the same thing happen to me. When you call the number now, its totally automated. You can't even speak to a real person. They do have a "cancel your account" option which I did. It better work, or I will be calling someone else! Grrrr.
I also have been charged 9.95/month since buying a wii game from smartgameshopper.com as a christmas present. I can't believe I hadn't noticed this charge either, my fault for not scrutinizing my credit card statements more closely. I called [protected] and disputed the charges with them (which says it's hotmoviesale, but the same company none-the-less). The rep I spoke to said they were only allowed to refund $19.90 (2 months), and couldn't do anything further. She said the only thing I could do was to write to their dispute department and gave me the address; also said the supervisor wasn't in & wouldn't be able to do anything for me anyway. This is ridiculous! She said I signed up for the membership when I purchased my first game...ummm, I think I would remember becoming a member. They still owe me $80! I better get my money back!
They've been charging me $9.95/month since a purchase I made in January, and have now stolen nearly $100 -- can't believe I didn't catch it until now! My credit company says they can only dispute going back 180 days, which gets me only $40 of this back. Does anybody know of a way to get the rest back? This company must be known by now for this scam, if so many people are reporting it here!
What is the phone number
I also hadn't noticed the charges and they have alot of my money. Can we get any of this back? I too was told I had signed up for it when I bought my kids games for Christmas. I told them I'd never heard of them and the girl on the phone told me it was through smartgameshopper.com. The recording also told me it was hotmoviesale.com She said the details of the membership would be in my SPAM mail and I should go back to Dec and look it up. This is ludacris! I don't have SPAM from Dec! Is there any remedy? I'm jealous of the one who's credit card company caught it for him...
Are they, smartgameshopper, hotmoviesale, or BBV? Somebody needs to go to jail.
Wow this is crazy, something should be done. My mother had just received her credit card Bill and and approached me (her son) about what this "BBV Games (large number) fl" was on the bill. This most recent bill arriving today has three charges one for $1.00 another for $9.95 and lastly a $59 one. This is outrageous i told her i have no clue i have never heard of this company i will do some research and see if i can find anything out. She had told me this has appeared on her credit card for the past 2 months or so and has just assumed i have been using her credit card for some membership. Oh mothers... Sadly i don't think i will be able to reclaim all of the lost money in these hidden charges but i will have to try.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to go about reclaiming lost money for these hidden fees and such it would be greatly appreciated feel free to email me at cmiller72@live.com I will start with contacting my credit card company and speaking with them.
I also saw some above comments about contacting FTC this is something i would be more than happy to do if i knew how.
Yeah, I ordered a World of Warcraft game card and thought I was getting a deal. A month later I got a $19.99 charge to my credit card for that scam service I didn't sign up for. DO NOT buy from these people. I learned my lesson good now. From now on I'm using Paypal, no more credit card for me online. And I'm only sticking to more reputable places like Amazon.
They put the membership in fine print that you're signing up with Best Brand Values from SmartGameShopper. I canceled online, but I didn't even have a password, nor did I set up an account. I put my email and told them to email me my password, which was some random number that I'd never use for a password. I then canceled online, but the BBB is going to hear from me.
I noticed same $9.95 charges on my credit card this month. I bought a Christmas gift and just got off the phone, they claim in their Terms & Conditions it states that by making a purchase with them that I gave my authorization to be charged $9.95 for their "benefit plan" to save money, blah, blah, blah...The lady further stated that I would not have been able to complete the purhcase without agreeing to the monthly charge. TOTAL SCAM! I got two months back in $9.95 charges and will be going after the other two months tomorrow during normal business hours of 9-5 EST. WHAT A JOKE!
same old story again. I bought a game for my grandkids for xmas and found out now I was being charged 9.95 a month for a membership I didn't sign up for. They said they would give me back only 2 payments and not the third! I got the same guy twice who lied about what his name was, first it was mario, then Ricardo! said they would send me a request confirm email, which I didn't get! same story as above ..jeremyb

After ordering a WII game for our son we were automatically enrolled for a "trial" membership to receive discounts which we were unaware of. Our Visa was charged an unauthorized $1.00 fee and after the seven day "trial period" our credit card was charged an unauthorized amount of $19.95 fee per month. Do NOT order from this company they are a SCAM!
I can't log into the site to cancel my membership but I don't remember subscribing to this "membership" I have spent a total of $74.92 I am going to call them at [protected] and see if I cancel
