The emergency room doctors
I am a professional woman who has an extremely demanding job! I also have a very serious incurable disease. I can go months and be great and then I end up at the doctor and the ER. I am new to Tampa but the ER doctors at TGH are very arrogant and overly confident! I was sick and ended up in the ER. When I was discharged I noticed on the diagnosis several items. One said "drug seeker!" The next day I was hospitalized for over a week! I called the Administration of TGH and they were appalled. THey assured me if I filled out a form this would be taking off my records. I received a letter stating the ER doctor refused to amend my record. For the mere fact that my honor and name mean everything to me I have retained an attorney to have this properly taking care of. A side note, if the doctor had properly treated me that night I would not have ended up back at the hospital staying for days! Just remember just because that have an MD behind their name does not mean they have had enough life experience to barely take care of themselves!
bad quality hospital, very unprofessional student doctors, and medical care
I have been at this place several times, including being admitted into the hospital, these people calling themselfs student doctors, and nurses, are totally ignorant arrogant obnoxious, and ruthless, and feel they are above you to talk down to you and be little you, i had statments wriiten in medical records, that were dictated by an out side source, totally false, that were written by medical staff, influnced by an outside soure, {insurance company} and it continued with each visit i return to this hospital, and having them repeat, the same false diganoses, and hiding the serious medical problems i did have were never mention 1 time, as a matter of fact, it was kept out of medical records, an out side source, insurance company i am in litagation with, had continiouslly callled the hopital, controlling false statments being written in medical records, and medical staff coperating with this insurance company and keeping out the serious medical issues, out of medical records, filing a report or a complaint, of letting the hospital know whats going on, and to take action was useless, because they get big kickbacks, in coperating with this orgnized crimes that go on behind hospital doors
Sorry what happened to you. I worked at TGH for 20+ years, it was the best hospital(pay/benefits and treatment) I've ever worked at. Just wanted to comment on this post. 'Student Doctors'( does he mean Residents?) do not write in the patient's chart, those are the residents &/ or Attending md's who do that. They(residents or medical students have waaaaay too many patients to look at or even care what type of insurance, if any the patient has. Unless you are an Attending Md and are being told by someone in billing(or your office staff) etc. you would not really care if they had insurance or not. I recall being accused of the same thing and no amount of talking with the patient would convince him otherwise. This happened once in my 30+ years of nursing. Without saying he's wrong I will say I believe he has his facts confused a bit.
doctors intentional negligence to a liver patient near death experience
Public warning!
My Near death experience was the special of the day at tampa general hospital. As i went back to the hospital for my routine belly drainage that had to have have to do every month or so was not new to me. i was admitted because of my liver count was too high. I was having liver failure at the time. after a ( 7 ) hour wait between the E R, i was given a room finally. the next day or so they had set a a time for my procedure. In comes the doctor with two students that obviously had no experience when it came to my procedure and i was concerned. because the student said he did not want to take a chance because he could hurt me, So how do i no this? because it came out of the students month when he mentioned to the doctor that he was not sure as to where to stick the big needle when it came to which angle should he go with. Immediately i felt a sharp pain and as i complained several times to stop, ( i was ignored ) it was to LATE. the doctor in charge instead of taking over quickly, DID NOT, and they had to stop and she said that she will be right back. never did come back. the students left and my pain got worst. the next morning after about all night complaining of gas and pain they realized that they had punctured my intestine. and i had to be rushed to emergency surgery immediately. so i was worried and found out after wards that they had to layout my entire intestine across a table to find the punctured hole. they found it and said to after wards the hole was already healing. if the toxics would have reached my blood, i could have been poisoned and would have DIED. The power of prayer saved me. because of that trauma and shock to my internal organs the episode caused my liver numbers to get higher and caused it to fail much quicker. and i know this because they told me because i always ask questions because of my nature, especially when i tried to explained to them how i was done at other hospitals that i had done it with before. after being discharged a few weeks later they warned me that i had maybe only months to live. knowing that i needed a liver transplant, they never enlisted me on their transplant list because they claimed and asked HOW THEY WERE GOING TO GET PAID. I had insurance however they still questioned and showed no interest in helping me. instead they booted me out of their hospital. THEY WERE ESTIMATING ON MY TIME LEFT ON THIS EARTH, they were close on that one .a year and a half later after holding on to dear life i was blessed with a new liver and kidney at shands florida university hospital in Gainesville florida. after my recover and physical therapy i found out from my primary doctor that tampa general hospital could not explained to DR, Oswald Williams why they refused to put me on the transplant list because i needed to desperately receive and in need of a new liver.SO THEY TURNED ME DOWN, THEY SIMPLY HAD NO INTEREST IN HELPING ME. After receiving my miracle transplants in Gainesville florida i reached out to them and they were nervous about my inquiries of their performance. i contacted them several times, they returned some of my calls asking me What i wanted and i explained to them that i needed their side of their story for my book. my book to be published by december of 2015 is about to tell all. All i wanted was their side of their story and why they refused to help me. straight answers is all i needed. No chance so i warned them that my story will be out world wide soon called( MY STRIVE TO SURVIVE ) So be on the look out it will include all of my ten hospitals and my experience with them. and i going to tell it just like it happened. WHY because this my way of giving back especially to all those families that have suffered in the hands of these pirates. DONT GET ME WRONG, there are great doctors and nurses in this hospital Im sure, how ever public relations they need to work on their hiring skills because there are some that should not be practicing or working on patients. SO FOR THOSE WHO CARE ABOUT THIER LOVE ONES BE WARE!. i strongly recommend to question ant concerns when it comes to the safety of your love ones. MY STIVE TO SURVIVE, MY TRUE STORY, BY AUTHOR HOUSE PUBLISHING soon to be completed. BY Julian M. i hope it will serve a good purpose when it comes to helping others in need.
GOD BLESS
I agree, that’s what they do. I call patient relations, patient prevention, they’re a bunch of idiots. Interestingly enough, risk management asked me what I wanted. Well, I told them they can’t bring my mother back so, there is not anything they could do. It’s awful there. Would love to read your book. I’m glad you’re doing well.
Dangerous
I would like to express my experience regarding the negligence at this hospital. Not looking for any "resolution", just wanting to educate the general public. While TGH may be a trauma 1 hospital, they only have their USF MD affiliation to stand on. The nurses are lazy, rude, & gossip in hallways. They make mistakes & cover it up, VERY unprofessional environment. Manager made excuses for the nurses without doing any investigations. I witnessed multiple errors from their nurses, yet the hospital still continues to be in business. I spoke to multiple patients who got infections in their lines. Very dangerous place to be!
Agreed, multiple errors then ultimately killed my mother, straight up. Used the Covid excuse so I couldn’t advocate for her. They are despicable.
I agree, just experienced this, never saw so many nurses in a critical care unit with so much time on their hands that they can stand around an gossip or text behind the counter when I ask them a question. Makes me sick.
Yes, rude, lazy and chit chat in cardiac/thoracic unit. I don’t know who has time for that. I had to tell them what to do, they weren’t even aware of things regular nurses, let alone ICU aand critical care nurses should know. It’s dangerous as hell. Mistake after mistake, sadly they killed my mother.
worst nursing care in the industry
This hospital has the worst nursing staff I have seen in any of the local hospitals. The nurses are lazy and have no compassion for their patients. My mother died due to lack if medical care at this facility, even after several complaints regarding her difficulty breathing and 2 doctors orders to place her back on the ventilator it took 7 hrs at which time she went into cardiac.
Arrest. She was revived after 15 mins but had suffered brain damage and died the following day. They refuse to care for the patients. I would rather die at the scene then be taken to tis so called hospital for care. If your loved one happebs to find themselves in this place please, please, be proactive in their car becauses these "nurses" wont. They do not take the care of tgeir elderly patients seriously because in fl your family can not sue for wrongful death if you dont have a living spouse or child under 25yo what 70yo has a 25yo child? Abuse of the system and our law makers allow this..
uncaring staff
My husband was admitted twice to this hospital for alcohol withdrawals, and breathing problems. The we first time they forgot that they were discharging him to detox altogether. These things are time sensitive matters. They ended up discharging him 20 minutes before we had to be at the detox center, with a 10 minute wait time on a cab. They decided rush hour was the best time to discharge him too; when the cab finally arrived, we had 10 minutes to travel 25 minutes across town. Needless to say; we were too late, and the detox center would not accept him. Now we are in ICU, in the same hospital. His room is right across from the nurses station. I come back from running errands to find the same breakfast tray from 10 am this morning sitting in front of him. It's now 6pm, and they just brought dinner. As I sit here in silence I can clearly hear the very unprofessional nursing staff, talk about my husbands alcoholism and other problems clear as day. Making jokes about his alcohol blood content, and etc. I don't find it very funny. It's taking everything inside me not to go out there and tell them off. The main nurse making these very inappropriate jokes, happens to be a gay guy
which is fine with me usually. Accept this morning when my husband was using a hand held urinal. The nurse was not even the tiniest bit scared to stare at my husbands junk while he was using the restroom. This is a teaching hospital, yes, but what exactly are they teaching in their patient relations, ethics, and HIPPPA laws? I am very disappointed in the way this hospital is run
I agree that some of the staff can be very uncareing.I was in a car accident on January 4th of 2015.I already was a paraplegic in a wheelchair and a drunk driver hit my van and broke my back.I went to Brandon Hospital and they sent me to TGH, saying they could help me better.I was operated on and had a bad reaction to some meds given to me in recovery. As a result I was paranoid and thought the nurse was giving me something to harm me instead of help me.Once they cleared the meds from my system I was ok.Even though I was Ok I was treated like a mental patient that needed to be watched all the time and I could always hear staff talking about me.I don't know if it was the entercom system are just because my room wasn't too far from the nurse center, but as they were watching me I could always hear what they were saying. One worker thought I reported him and started making threats and calling me names and talking bad about my husband.I felt I had no privacy and that a few people that worked the night sift was playing games trying to make me think I was crazy.I was fighting for my life with three big operations on my back and not able to move on my own being already a paraplegic. My heart was and still is broken over what I went through and I went through it alone. My husband thought I was still having an reaction to meds.If that was the case then why did a couple of them come running in my room when I was on the phone asking about my rights and pivacy and a lawyer. They were ease dropping on every conversation to visitors and on my phone, they even knew what I wrote on my laptop. How, I do not know how, But I know for a fact it is true.I could not believe I was being treated the way I was.I was too sick to advacate for myself and I did not have close family near.I would never recommend anyone go there unless they have family that is going to stay with them all the time.It is going to take a long time to get over the hurt and treatment I received.I am praying to forgive those who hurt me.
I was in the ICU 12/2019 and I'm horrified by my treatment. I will write the story in full but wanted to let you know it's still happening and you are lucky to have lived through your experience. I will back you up that this type of treatment and worse is still happening.
terrible pediatric floor
There Pediatric Floor is terrible how are you going to have a child admitted and not have anywhere for a parent to sleep they have four people to a room the pediatric floor has one bathroom shower area that everyone shares this is the worst treatment and hospital I have ever been to word of advice don't go here if you don't have too.
Oh and to add they had my contagious grandson who has MRSA in a room with 4 other children, great hospital.

nurses
My young cousin is in the Pediatrics ward for Cancer... She recently had a procedure done which has made her not feel her lower body.. She has gone to the bathroom in her pants and we have asked a nurse 7 times to come help and it took them over an hour and a half to clean her up. She's also feeling light headed and dizzy and they won't help. Horrible
felt unsafe
I have never felt unsafe with a nurse at a hospital, but this time I did. I very recently went to Tampa General for surgery. While in recovery that evening, I was given pain medical that caused my heart rate to spike dangerously high. When I asked the nurse for help, she partially closed the curtain and said, "relax, it will calm down.". I called for another nurse who came and requested that my nurse on duty call the Dr. The other nurse also asked "how much medicine did you give her.". To provide a little back ground information, my surgery was first thing that morning (7:30), and I was still in recovery 6 pm because the "hospital" did not have a room for me yet (according to my nurse). When I began insisting that they find me a room, magical one became available. My mom and husband briefly left the room to grab something to eat, and the nurse on call inquired about where they were going to eat. Then she repeatedly offered pain medication. Approximately 2 minutes after I consented to the medication, I began feeling like something was terribly wrong. Oh, by the way, keep in mind that I had taken this medication twice before from the previous nurse on call with no issues. The entire time, my vital signs were excellent until this incident. I truly believe this nurse is NOT fit to practice on anyone. I felt very unsafe with her. I recently contacted the patient representative center, and I am waiting for a call back. Needless to say, this will NEVER be my hospital of choice again, and I will follow up on this until the issue has some sort of resolution. Who knows how many people have been injured, or even died because of this nurse, or situations similar to this.
Lucky if you get a call back, , the are the patient prevention department.
raped by an employee
What I read was that she was in the emergency room at TGH and the went to St. Joseph for treatment of her wrist. The way I understood it, she was raped in her room at St. Joseph. I still do not understand why TGH would pay for the visit to St. Joseph. They checked the patient's wrist and said it wasn't fractured. What other treatment was warranted?
In all honesty, I never posted this as a complaint, if you think about it, as a complaint it makes no sense since it makes reference to a post that is not here. It was originally a comment on a complaint.
TGH should not have to give you any compensation for the attack. If anyone should, it should be St. Joseph since it took place at their facility by there employee. You say you reported the attack and the employee was fired. Were the police notified? Was the employee arrested?
I am not familiar with the hospitals of Tampa, but why would Tampa general pay for your stay at St. Joseph? Also, why St. Joseph keep you over night for a sore wrist?

The OP of this review is a ### that does not know how to read. Just telling you that so you know.
whythelongfaces aka little[censored] from my3kunts.
@Tasha4 you are a very stupid person and maybe you are mentally disturbed as well. In the original complaint I help the patient write. In the other comments I not being the patient responded on behalf of the patient. Wow just know that things are not always as clear as you may think they should be. And you never know what can happen to you or a love one...again there is a tape recording to support the patient complaint...SO THE ### U SAID THAT'S MADE UP I SAY TO YOU GO EAT ### TO GO ALONG WITH THAT ### ATTITUDE YOU HAVE AND THATS FROM MYSELF AND THE PATIENT...
To all comments the employee admitted to inappropriate behavior and there is a legal recording of his action and he admitted to his action. The patient is a mental person so that's why the recording was done to verify the employee actions. The hospital has a responsibility to protect. No damage can be done to the truth...
I don't know what u r reading but the patient was raped in her room at TGH by a non attending employee to the patient. If one goes to the hospital for any reason they should not come out a victim. The patient went to the hospital because she was sick not to have sex. Don't comment on what you don't understand. And in today's society what other method is there beside compensation in wrong doing? And to be a prostitute is to offer sex not have it taken. There's more to this it did say long story short just know that the patient was raped...
@ whythe longface...money is not the issue and you are feeble minded and don't understand and there is a police report. @mauial50...TGH paid for my hospital bill for my wrist I fell in the ER with a fall risk band on but I was sent back to the lobby and TGH didn't treat my wrist while I was a patient...@truthisnowtold...I am
emergency room visit
I took my father to the emergency room at 7 PM because of severe chest pain and pain in the jaw and neck. They took him right in and gave him a EKG and then sent him to the waiting room, They next came out 30 minutes later and took blood and then again sent him to waiting room. Then they came and gave him x-rays and again sent him back to the waiting room...
Read full review of Tampa General Hospital and 6 commentsnurse on drugs
Tampa General hospital does not drug test doctors or nurses, I was in a relationship with a nurse in the cardiac unit there who was still married to a doctor there and both were cocaine addicts. This is very scary to to think your life could be in the hands of someone high on drugs. Tampa General hospital, you need to drug screen your employees.

refusal to treat
I took my wife who has schizophrenia to the ER at Tampa General Hospital
because she was hearing voices that told her to [censored]. She was very depressed and suffering greatly from the voices and paranoia.
They gave her a script for 5 Ativan and sent her home

Hrmm. No health insurance?
I would definitely involve a lawsuit, what if she went home or you weren't there and she wasn't stable and something happened? The doctors in scrubs could perform better medical attention than that. I hope she attends some type of therapy also, just to have someone to talk with and help her grasp what those thoughts are from.
could have died
I am a cardiac patient. I have been to Tgh before with no problems. I had always been well taken care of. Except for 2 incidents. The first time I was having chest pains and they did a EKG. Which was normal and I was told to wait in the waiting room. It would be a few hours. So I went home. I found out the next day when I went to memorial hospital that I had a mild heart attack. That was the beginning of my heart troubles. I've had 3 stents places since. During these I had normal EKG and stress tests. When I had a cardiac cath. it showed I had 90% blockage. So I had 1 stent then a year later 2 more stents then 3 months after that the 2 previous stents collapsed and I had to have them repaired. About 3 months after that I was having such bad chest pains that I couldn't walk across the road. So I was taken by the paramedics (Who were just awesome) to Tgh. I was there for 4 days. During this time I had normal EKG and stress and blood levels. Same history as before. (Which the doctors knew my history, But this time I had no insurance) Also I developed horrible pain in the side of my neck which had actually turned black and blue and was swelling. The hospital doctor discharged me and told me there was nothing wrong me. I told him I know there is something wrong that I can't walk to the bathroom without having chest pains even being on morphine every 3 hours with minimal relief. When I asked him about my neck and the bruising. He told me I had arthritis. I never heard of such a thing. So I went home and after 2 days I couldn't take it any more. I felt like I was going to die and I would have if I didn't go to St. Joesph's hospital. Where I ended up having open heart surgery. I was on the verge of having a massive heart attack. I also had a dvt (Blood clot) in my neck. That was my so called arthritis. So God bless every one at St. Joes for saving my life. Everyone a angel. They didn't cut corners because I no longer had insurance. They took care of me they way I should have been taken care of in the first place. Dr. Teekle Taylor who did my surgery is awesome. So was Dr. Feghei the cardiologist. He didn't stop until he found out what was wrong with me. I owe them my life. A zillion googles of kudos to everyone there. To the doctor that sent me home at TGH. I hope you or any of your family are never treated the way you treated me. Because you could lose your life, just like I almost lost mine. People are still people regaurdless if they have insurance or not. Evey life is precious and priceless. I felt that Tgh put a price on my life and if I couldn't pay then it wasn't worth their time.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
St. Joe’s usually cleans up their messes. Smh
Yep, have a friend at St. Joes they get many patients released from TGH only to be rushed to St. Joes. She always says, they save lives at St. Joes, unlike TGH. Heard and experienced many of these incidents at TGH.
STAT means nothing to them, seriously just experience this.
Also was told by a source that the hospitals are run by the MOB down here in Florida...so if you have been any kind of a whistle blower I would move from this roach infested Florida pronto...the whole south is a roach house..LOL
Don't go to the hospital if you are a whistle blower. That might be your problem...same thing happened to me.
Yes. I do not know who they have paid off to be able to make the advertising claims about being "the best in the country." My wife was sent there on a STAT basis yesterday [protected]) by her vascular surgeon, with the assurance he would call ahead and she would be seen by a member of his surgical group. She was suffering from an immense swelling with increasing bruising and pain at a post surgical site. The concern was that this was an anuerysm, clot or infection. Being an unusually compliant patient, she did not eat or drink prior, as surgery was a possibility and she had no desire to prolong the wait time. None of her attempts to speed the proces along were rewarded - we arrived at the ER at 2:10 p.m. (after a 30 mile drive from our home). By 4:20 no one had even acknowledged her presence. I asked the front desk nuse and explained the circumstances. She came over and told my wife that somehow she had "gotten lost in the process and fallen between the cracks." This, for a patient who had been ordered by her physician to go there. She was given an ultrasound and sent back to the waiting room. We were called back to be treated 3 hours later.
7:30. The "assesment" and "treatment" were negligible at best. The only member of her physician's group on duty was doing a TRANSPLANT - hello - that obviously takes hours on end, there was no one to see her other than the "attending" who refused to make a descion as to admit or release. (I wonder what HIS bill will be.) So, after all the wait, stress, pain (oh, yes she was given marginal pain tratment after 6 hours) she was examined and told she could go home. OK - the "release" process took another hour.
So - a 9 1/2 stay in the ER ( physician ordered) amounted to more stress than anyone should be subjected to.
I have no kind words for TGH and wish to God her surgeon practiced elsewhere. Oh, yeah - by the way - she is also registered at Shands, Gainesville. We could have made to and from Gainesville 2X.
Another note: The ER nurses will tell you that 6-10 HOUR wait is not unusual. Did you see that? 6 - 10 HOURS IS NOT UNUSUAL! Can't deal with this, we will no doubt be billed thousands for nothing, yet if she can get a transplant here it would be preferable to Gainesville. Why is nothing being done about this wait time?
I am currently in the E.R. I came in due to chest pains. It is now 9:04 pm. I've been here since 2:00 p.m.
I was told the EKG was normal but was being kept overnight for observation. I have experienced the worst customer service by the nurses, one R.N. by the name of tiffany was so unprofessional that as we were asking her about the fact that she forgot to apply the heart monitor leads she replied "whatever", then another nurse came in after and trying to justify her behavior by saying that's how young people talk. This nurse tiffany appeared to be distracted when she first entered the room. I told my friend i didn't want her to care for me because of her behavior she's dangerous. I'm now being told that my stay will be in the e.r. due to no beds. I hope the rest of my stay is better than it began. I also hope i'm not sent away with a clean bill of health only to have a heart attack the next day.
