Trying to secure a salary key code
I am buying a house so Bank needs employment and wage info on me. My loan processor wants a Salary Key Code to verify. So I have tried numerous times, but to no avail. I keep getting hung up on by call reps or their IVR system. After about a dozen calls, I finally got a pin to work. So when I finally get to sign-in, I get internal server error 500. Called again and get transferred to IVR or said nothing they can do. I give up. Guess I will not get my dream house cause of worst company ever.
Unethical and customer last
This company maintains records of employment info. Often, several companies send their employment info to these companies who manage and maintained the background check process. To be able to have your future employers verify the information, one needs to create an online login account with them per the instructions set by the ex-employer. I am having difficulty setting up one for myself.
I called them several times during the first week of October 2016 explaining them clearly what the issue I am facing while signing up. I keep getting different answers every time I call them. More so, they keep redirecting me to my ex-employer to fix the issue. TheWorkNumber customer service says they don't have the ability to fix it. I am not sure why are they even sitting there to say the same line every time - "Please contact your ex-employer to fix the issue". I kept going back and forth several time and my issue has not been resolved yet. They kept asking for my SSN at least 5 times during the call and I wonder/assume they have to key in the social security number so many times? Makes no sense to me.
I am kind of afraid that my future employer will be able to verify my employment details on time. And whether my social security will get into hands of corrupt mind.
TheWorkNumber.com has contracted with several big time employers and one of them is the one I worked for in the past. They surely don't deserve to be in the business.
Employment verifications
Locked out Again!
Since Equifax has bought this service has gotten worse. I have been locked out of the system for over a month. I just got off the phone with customer service and they do not have the ability to solve the problem and they don't think I'm locked out. In order for me to speak with the technical department I was told that I can not be transferred, I have to take screen shots of each and every steps and then submit it to whoever. Sadly, we have to rely on their incorrect information to try and verify or candidates employment. 25% of the time the information they have is incorrect and we have to go back to the company to beg for a verification that we have already spent over $50.00 for. Additionally, they have cost my candidates jobs because they do not respond in a timely fashion in updating the candidates profile.
Rip Off is a complete understatement!
Verification of employment
This is a rip off and violation of consumer rights. This company has monopolized verification of employment services and act as a third party between the company requesting verification and the employer who has the income and employment data. Except never ever they had complete data without errors. There is always something missing or incorrect.
In that case I have to call the employer directly and employer is refusing to provide any data because now they outsource this service to The Work Number.
And at this point I get stuck and go nowhere yet The Work Number refuses to refund the fee.
They are taking over outsourcing verification for more and more employers in this country and this monopoly has to stop.
I can not really dispute the charge on my credit card because I can not afford to have my account terminated since in the course of my business I need it.
Awful customer service
I've attempted to acquire a salary key from theworknumber in order to provide my apartment complex with employment verification for over a week now. The first time I called they told me my apartment manager had to call a 1-800 number and my employment would be verified. False. I have to supply them with a salary key. After attempting to login to their system to get this key, I had to call them again because I do not have an account on file with them. After speaking to 3 different "customer service" representatives I finally got to start the verification process however the address they have on file for me is not an address I've ever lived at because I cannot seem to provide them with what they need. After checking with my employer to find out what address is on file with them I am still unable to figure out what address theworknumber has on file for me and everyone I talk to could not be less helpful. SO FRUSTRATED. Would never use this company again if I had the choice.
Employment verification
This is a total scam. I was verifying employment for one of my client and the report only comes out with 2013 and part of 2014. I told them I need 2012 and 2013. I called and talk to many of their staffs and none of them can actually help. And they are very rude too.
According to them, "if the employer do not provide with the information we do not have it."
I do not understand why employers need to outsource to those idiots to do this job, while they have their own HR and records of the employment and pay history.

Awful service
The Work Number is one of the most user unfriendly verification sites ever. I'm a social services verifier and was transferred through 7 different people over a 45 min period to change a default fax number and still was unable to accomplish this. The information I have received on several clients was outdated and inaccurate and their customer service reps are rude.

No recourse
Which is run by Equifax
I am beyond frustrated that I cannot apply for a job online with accurate dates of employment and final salary info
because I cannot access this information through this system!

ms. marilyn m,
Theworknumber does not store the info you are looking for, you need to contact your pass employer for that info.
No service
They don't answer the phone and the system will just hang up on you. There is no service provided free of charge to anyone. Just for verifications this system does NOT work. I'm sure they are paid big money to provide service for these large companies and the companies probably do not realize the LACK of service they are providing to employees and general public. This all seems like a scam. I work for low income non-profit housing and to verify employment and income from the companies that use The Work Number costs money that we are not allowed to pay under HUD regulations! This company should be investigated for FRAUD!

After 2 hours on the phone, on the web, on the phone, I just lost my closing date because i don't remember my exact hire date
from 25 year ago! i have the month and year, but not the correct date... WOW...
This is a horrible service, and the staff is just as bad, and not to mention, a security breach...
I repeated my ss# at least 6 x to at least 6 people, just to get employ verification! WOW!
Guess what, , , still don't have my Salary Key, after 2 hours..
Had a really awful experience with The Work Number. Had to speak to somebody to get a PIN number and this took most of my day. No one answers and then after 2-30 minutes a disconnection. I finally "enrolled" only to learn my bank refuses to have anything to do with The Work Number and I have to go through my firm's HR if I want a mortgage. A colossal waste of time and money by my employer.
I hate this service... Customers last
I was on the phone for an hour and a half trying to get my employment information. I threw in the towel and hung up. I went on-line and the still did not find an easy way to get my number. What's worse is that they do employment verification for a lot of huge companies!

Dealing with the same thing i been on hold for 4 hrs
Horrible waste of time. Last week I had to jump through a million hoops to get a copy of my W-2 and now this week my bank needs to verify my income with a salary key. Somehow between getting my W-2 and now, there is no record of me ever being employed. The employer code I was given by the person who was finally able to track down my W-2 doesn't work. I'm supposed to close on a house in three weeks and this is the last piece of information I need. I've spent hours on the phone and trying to navigate this worthless website to obtain one single piece of information so I can buy a house. This is so incredibly irritating. Not a single person can give me the information I need.
