Rental vehicle
Hello, we arrived at our destination and waited 3 hours in a line where only 2 people were working in a very busy airport, but that's not my complaint, sometimes that is life. My complaint is that we rented the vehicle, paid over $500 and didn't receive the vehicle we paid for, as well as the vehicle itself was just utterly filthy and disgusting. I have...

Rented car in Orlando august 8-12.
Car was in horrible condition. Make noises and fenders were ducked taped on. Hub cap was starting to fall off. Terrible. I would like some kind of a refund for my inconvenience. I was transporting a toddler and this car was unsafe. No one could provide assistance. And no one was there for a precheck. I have the blank form. And this car cost over 500.00. It was a little 4 door economy car in bad bad shape.
Desired outcome: Some kind of refund. 500.00For this experience is uncalled for.
Rent car for 3 days, got charges for 7 additional days
On 5/5/23 11PM Me and my husband picked up the car from New Orleans AP, LA. 3 days later, on 5/8/23 5PM we returned the car to Houston AP, TX on time. The lady from the drop-off center told us "leave the key inside the car, then you are good to go". We left the key inside the car then went into the office to ask for the invoice. The officer with glasses told us the invoice will be sent to my email and we are good to leave. Me and my husband took the shuttle bus from the drop-off center to the airport for our flight to NY at 7pm. We were back in NY on 5/8/23. 11 days later, I received an invoice for extra charge $1,017.14 from Thrifty, showing that I returned the car on 5/19/23 instead of 5/8/23. They charged on my CC on the same day when I received the invoice. I called customer service right after I received the bill. They said they were able to track the car was returned on the 5/8/2023 to Houston return center. They promised me will escalate my case and get me refund. Until now, I have not received any refund from Thrifty. I have been calling almost every other week, they keep tell me they have created cases to escalate for me. On 7/27/23, there was a refund of $492.77 hit my bank account BUT there was a charge back for the same amount, so they net out $0. I received nothing.
I believe the only charges I should pay after returning the car is $83.49
The actual charge I got after returning the car was $1,017.14
Thrifty should refund me $933.65
Here are the list of case # they have opened for me:

Overcharge on flat tire
Hello, last month i have rented a car for thrifty from 07/05/2023 until 07/12/2023.
During the trip we had two flat tires in two days, two different cars (just by this we can see how badly they deliver the cars to customers). In both cases we had to call the road assistance to change the tire and they told us that we would be charged for 80 dollars. We delivered the car and charged us 80 dollars for the road assistance. We thought that because we had two flat tires in two days they would offer the second one. One month later my card was charged more 350 dollars for the second tire. I wont rent anymore a car here, worst customer experience that i ever had, they just dont care about the cars and customer. We lost a lot of time during our trip because they dont care how they the tires are when the car its delivered to the customer.
Added the photo of the receipt, with the two different values on road assistance.
Desired outcome: Refund

All I can say is that I’m soooo disappointed and amazed at what you could rent to me for over 500 for 5 days ! I have a four year old in this car.
Terrible. Look at these pictures. This car is NOT safe. Tape on the bumpers. And the tire hub is falling off. Makes noises when breaking What the heck is this ? Really ? Is this the quality of car rental you have ? This is thrifty I guess. But I could have gotten a nicer car from enterprise or Avis right near this place in Orlando airport ! I have pictures for you ! My four year old grandson even said the wheel is falling off this piece of junk!
I think you need to reimburse me something.

Justin Giles: Car hire from Toronto Pearson airport 4th-11th July 2023
Booked with Thifty via agent back in March Ref CA [protected]

Issue:
1.The Car Hire Voucher clearly stated that the car be filled up with fuel on return. At the pick up desk the gentleman gave my wife & I an option not to bring the car back with fuel, which we both verbally declined, and we returned the car brim full of fuel, as checked in on return. However it appears that, in error, the agreement stated we had accepted the FPO option, which we did not. Thus we have been wrongly charged $61.20
2. Having previously taken out our own damage waiver insurance, I explained on pick up that we did not require the extra optional $30.45 per day.. Again we have been wrongly charged for this for an extra day we hired because of a flight cancellation.
3. It was not explained at all that any additional days would be charged out at $213.96 per day, though I do now see it was on the original form, but not explained at pick up.
I think it not unreasonable for a customer after a long international flight to expect the small print to reflect what has just been agreed across the desk .
Conclusion: I have been charged an extra $386.77 for one days extra hire caused by a flight cancellation by Air Canada.
Please consider a refund of at least the $61.20 fuel charge and$30.45 insurance. In the circumstances of an enforced delay over which we had no control the $213.96 I consider excessive, and was expecting just an extra days normal charge as I rang before the end of the contract to extend by one day.
One further point, the car was not clean when hired. I have photos to prove.
Thank you,
Justin Giles

Read full review of Thrifty Rent A CarDouble charged
I reserved an auto through expedia and pre paid. I was charged again by Thrifty at the time of rental, including insurance.
I spent three hours on chat with expedia with no luck--they admitted I was double charged: "Unfortunately, after multiple tries, we weren't' able to obtain an approval from the rental manger to get a refund for the double billing issue. This means the current rules and restrictions for your booking apply and a refund can't be granted". They are really sorry, though.
I filed two complaints at thrifty with no response.
Desired outcome: Refund the cost of the rental that was prepaid ($546.07).
Rental car overcharging. Reference RR [protected]
Good afternoon.
My name is Beniamino Dello Iacovo.
I rented online a Toyota RAV 4 from Italy and I paid 551,98 euro in advance by credit card. The rent period was from San Francisco airport on july 10 and return was in Los Angeles on july 22. When i went to San Francisco airport for the car pick up I asked for a navigator. The lady at Thrifty desktop told me that the Toyota Rav 4 i booked had no navigator and to have one i should upgrade the kind of car. She offered me a Ford with navigator with a cost of 780 dollars in addition to the 551,98 i had already paid online.
After travelling 2 days the navigator was non
Working properly and I got lost a few times in the middle of the mountains.
I went on july 12 in Las Vegas airport for immediate change of the car because it was not possible to continue my vacations and my trip with that car.
The lady at Thrifty desktop was really sorry and made me notice that i had been overcharged and the additional cost of 780 dollars for the car upgrading is too much esagerate.
I fell very unhappy and upset for the service and the overcharge that I had.
In Las vegas airport i did pick up a Toyota RAV 4 (exactly the car that I booked and paid already first).
I wasted half morning of my vacations for the car change and I missed the chance to visit some places that I wanted see because of the not working navigator.
I here ask the complete refund of the money thay your company overcharged to me.
Waiting for your kind reply.
Beniamino Dello Iacovo.
Desired outcome: Not paying overcharging at all.
Rental car, thrifty
Yesterday the 8 July, 2023 at 10.30 pm I went to your Thrifty Agency at Atlanta, GA, Airport. There was an African American attending. I just wanted to ask for a price, if I rent a car from you the same day for 1 week. He was attending a lady, and there was nobody in line at this time anymore. So, because I was tired, I crossed the waiting line and waited at the agency-attending-desk, where normally a second of your employees attends, right beside him. Nobody was there, So I waited until your employee was finished with the lady, he attended. When he saw that I was waiting beyond the waiting line right at the the other agent-attrdning-desk of your company, beside him, he became very aggressive and very rude. He told aggressively, rudely, that I should have waited behind the waiting line, not at the agent-attending-desk beside him. He was not friendly at all. I apologize for that. Then he said:” Im not attending walk-in customers anymore. And He didn't give me any price of a car rental. When I was leaving his desk, I heard him saying to me:'' they can hit or kick you”! I was too tired to react this evening, but afterwards I became very upset and angry about him saying this to me:'' they can hit of kick you”! wauhhhh That was ridiculous, evil and disrespectful and rude towards me from him. Besides the rudeness he showed me, talking aggressively to me when I was not waiting behind the line, making me feel so bad. I was a potential customer for you and he wants someone to hit or kick me, me as a customer? What monster aggressive, super crazy evil guy you have there at your agency at the Atlanta Airport? I'm really upset and angry about this guy, he hurt my feelings a lot, such a ridiculous respectless guy he is! and I expect an apology from this guy! Otherwise you loose me a customer!Roland Bartl, German
best is you reach me by my email
Desired outcome: It would be good, if Thrifty apologizes
Car rental
I rented a car from Thrifty on 06/16/23. Waited approx. 45 minutes in line to picked up my already reserved truck. Once I did an inspection on SUV that was reserved to me, I noticed that the bumper was cracked, and the side of car was swiped as if the car had been in an accident. I informed the attendant on the floor and was told speak to the check-out attendant which took about another 30 minutes to wait in line as there was only 1 attendant checking out a long line of vehicles coming from 2 different directions. When I spoke to the check-out attendant and voiced my concerns, I was instructed to fill out a pre-rental vehicle inspection form. When I filled out form and retuned thinking, I was going to be given a different vehicle, I was told that, that it was nothing he could do and call the Thrifty customer service number. I called the number and expressed my concerns and was told that I could not be refunded by Thrifty because I had gone through a Third Party to book. I was told to call my Third Party which stated that they had sent the payment in full to Thirfty after vehicle was picked up. It's a lot of back and forth speaking with agents and sups from corporate. I called my Third-Party Vendor and filed a claim with photos attached and was told that claim denied because they do not refund based on car condition. The car that was given to me was not safe and had not been inspected and the inside was dirty with debris on the front and trunk. Car was washed outside only and put back on the line for the next person to drive off with. The Third Party I booked with has sent multiple follow ups to Thrifty requesting a refund and we are still waiting on a response. I am also still waiting on my deposit to be credited back to me as car was retuned on 6/19/23 with a full tank and cleaner than it was given to me.

K5360202298 Car Rental from July 2-5
Thrifty Car Rental, Raleigh-Durham Intl Airport (RDU)
1009 Rental Car Drive Raleigh NC, Morrisville, NC 27560
I made a reservation through Priceline for the above service. At the time I made the reservation I used my credit card. I was notified by my bank that this credit card had been hacked and that it would take 5-10 days to receive a new card. I called Thrifty Customer Service and asked if I could use a debit card to satisfy possible overages. I was told that I could. I also called Priceline and notified them although they had been paid prior to the hack. No problem. At the service desk (9:45 am) I was told I needed a $500 reserve on my debit card. I had that. It was then that a representative from another station said I also needed a flight itinerary which I didn't have. I was denied the car. I am not in a criminal enterprise. I deserved better. I was treated like a criminal who was out to finagle Thrifty. I resent that.
Desired outcome: I thought that $500 held on my debit card was enough. Normally you only require $150-$200 on the credit card. My itinerary had nothing to do with this transaction.
Extra charges on card that was to be used for DEPOSIT HOLD ONLY
I booked a reservation using a debit card but left a credit card for "incidentals" during pickup, as I was not OK with a $500 deposit hold on my debit card for 10 days. Why would anybody be OK with tying up their vacation funds like that? I asked if the credit card would be charged for anything and was told that the ONLY charge would be for a deposit hold which would be refunded. I was advised TWICE that there would be NO other charges to that card at the counter and again during drop off.
Lo and behold, the credit card was charged anyways after I told the rental desk representative to only charge the debit card I used to pay for the rental. When I called to have this straightened out because this mistake was on Thrifty, I was refused help because I wasn't some "elite member" or whatever the club is, even though I have collectively spent over 100K over the years with Thrifty for employee car rentals. I find it appalling that I was refused help over a $154 charge.
Since Thrifty won't help even though this matter falls on an extreme lack of honesty and communication skills, I have decided to no longer use Thrifty unless this matter is resolved. I was flat out lied to by two employees! This is terrible business, especially refusing to help out a customer that brings a ton of revenue to Thrifty. These "policies" need to be clearly outlined in the contract that customers sign.
Desired outcome: All I wanted was for the remaining extra charge to be put on my personal Debit card, and for the credit card charge to be refunded in order to avoid legal action.
Car rental
On May 26 I was to pick up a Mustang convertible that I booked 6 months in advance, at the Las Vegas airport. When I arrived there were about 150 people in front of me in line. I have a video. I waited in line for 4.5 hours in line. Once I got to the desk they told me to go up to the garage, wheee there was another line of about 10 people. When we go to that counter I was told to just take any convertible over there & pointed. There were 2 there. 1 was really nice the other not so nice. We loaded all of our stuff into the car, had to figure out how everything worked bc no one helped you. Finally 5.5 hours after arriving we are ready to pull out, BUT the man at the final gate says there’s a hold on the car for something we need to go back to the counter to have the lady clear it. Back to the line at the counter where the lady says she can’t clear it, I have to take the other car left. I told her the car is a piece of crap, she says that’s the only convertible left. The cloth seats were sagging in the middle, we had to lift up on the doors to close them & the front & back windows didn’t close flush. I lost an entire day of vacation trying to pick up the car, then got stuck with the crappiest car left & paid $600 for 2 days. I told Thrifty all of this on their survey & got no response.
Desired outcome: Full refund!
Poor and unprofessional customer service by Jennifer
RE: Thrifty, Atlanta Airport, [edited](Reservation Number)
On June 18, 2023 I received unprofessional behavior from Jennifer. She also discriminated against me because of a disability. She forced me to pay for an upgrade because of that disability. She charged my credit card twice. I witness Jennifer yelling and poorly speaking to employees in an unprofessional manner. I spent over 2 hours picking up my rental vehicle. James tried to help me but she refused to allow him to assist me. She went out of her way to stop him or anyone else to assist me. I do not know Jennifer so I do not know why she showed me so much hate. This was the worst customer service experience of my life. I will be looking into legally filing a disability discrimination complaint based on the law.

Terrible Customer Service and False Advertising: Avoid Thrifty Rent-A-Car
So, I was all set to rent a B group vehicle from Thrifty Rent-A-Car for my trip months in advance. But when I got to the airport, there was no one there to help me out. I had to go to Hertz instead, which was a bit of a bummer. I mean, I know they're the same parent company and all, but it was still a bit of a hassle.
Anyway, when I got to Hertz, they told me I could choose any car in a certain row at the airport. But the only options were a Nissan Versa and a Ford Fiesta. Clearly, these were not B group vehicles. But I didn't want to make a fuss, so I just went with it.
When I returned the rental, I got the receipt via email and noticed that while it clearly said I reserved a B group rental and was charged for a B group, it said I received an A group car. I was pretty annoyed by this, so I reached out to customer service. We've had over 10 email correspondences since then, and their position has basically been "oops, our bad." They haven't offered to refund the difference or anything like that.
I've sent several more emails stating that this is an unacceptable resolution, but all they've offered me is a $50 car rental certificate. It's been over a month, and I still haven't received anything from them. They just told me they'll send me another one, but it's only good until Dec. 31, 2022. So basically, their response to their garbage service is to give me a coupon that I might receive before it expires to use their garbage service again? No thanks.
Overall, I would definitely recommend avoiding Thrifty Rent-A-Car at all costs. Their customer service is terrible, and they don't seem to care about their customers at all.
Beware of Thrifty Car Rental's Deceptive Toll Fees - A Warning to Others
I recently rented a car from Thrifty and boy, was I in for a surprise! When I went to the rental counter, the representative told me about a toll tag charge of $10.99 per day, which would amount to $43.96 for my four-day rental. I declined the offer as I knew that I would only be going through a few tolls and it would be cheaper to pay them individually. However, what I didn't know was that Thrifty would charge me $15 for each toll booth I went through if I didn't pay their set fee of $10.99.
Fast forward two weeks after my rental ended, and I received a bill for a whopping $125.99! I was shocked to see that the total toll charges were only $5.99, which meant that $120 in fees were assessed. I did some research online and found out that this is a common practice by Thrifty, and many others have had similar complaints. In fact, Thrifty was even sued by the state of Florida for scamming people by charging these excessive fee rates.
You see, these so-called "fees" for processing are 100% profit for Thrifty. I called my local toll authority, NTTA, and they told me that they didn't charge any fees to Thrifty for the tolls. So, in my case, the $120 is pure profit for Thrifty, and the $5.99 toll fee is paid automatically and electronically by Thrifty to NTTA. No human is putting in hours for this transaction.
I want to warn others to beware of Thrifty's deceptive practices. They are ripping people off, and it is illegal in Florida. I wish I had known about this before renting from them. I hope this review helps others avoid the same mistake I made.
Avoid Thrifty Rent-A-Car: Bait and Switch Tactics and Poor Customer Service
Thrifty Rent-A-Car is not a company I would recommend. They are a bait and switch company. I thought I had everything figured out when I booked my car rental online and paid for it. However, when I went to pick up the car, they charged me for a bunch of upgrades I did not sign up for. It was frustrating and disappointing. I called customer service and spoke to Michael B, identifier A264. He was not helpful at all. He simply told me that I was going to collections. I then spoke to his supervisor, Jermaine B, identifier 2333, who was even less helpful.
I was not happy with the service I received from Thrifty. It is no surprise that they have a "C" rating on the BBB. I would advise anyone to avoid using them. They will probably respond to this review and say that I signed the contract, so they do not care what I say. This is what they have done to every other customer who has complained. I am willing to pay the collection fee, but I hope that consumers will read this review before choosing Thrifty.
It is worth noting that Thrifty is now owned by Hertz. However, this does not change the fact that their business practices are questionable. I spent hours trying to talk to someone at corporate about the bait and switch problem, but it was clear that they simply did not care.
To preemptively respond to any response from Thrifty, I do not care that they "checked" with the location of the car rental and "verified" the charges. I am willing to pay for the car I originally rented online and any charges I chose, not what their sales team manipulated me into signing. Their business practices deserve a class action lawsuit.
In conclusion, I would advise anyone to go anywhere else for their car rental needs. Thrifty Rent-A-Car is not worth the hassle.
Extortionate Insurance and Credit Card Hold: My Disappointing Experience with Thrifty Rent-A-Car in Ireland
I recently rented a car from Thrifty Rent-A-Car at Cork Airport in Ireland. I made my reservation through Expedia and made sure to purchase car rental insurance from a third-party provider. However, when I arrived to pick up the car, the Thrifty representative asked if I had insurance. I informed him that I did, but he insisted that it was not sufficient and that I needed to add their insurance for an additional 7 Euros per day.
I tried to argue with the representative, but he was adamant that I needed to purchase their insurance in order to rent the car. He even told me that this was a common occurrence and that many people get frustrated with the situation. Reluctantly, I agreed to add the insurance, but I soon found out that it came with a 5,000 Euro hold on my credit card. This was a shock to me, as I needed to use my card for other expenses such as hotels and food.
When I expressed my concern to the agent, he told me that he could reduce the hold to 3,000 Euros if I purchased their 30 Euro per day insurance. I was extremely frustrated with this situation, as it felt like extortion. I voiced my concerns to the agent, but he simply suggested that I could go elsewhere to rent a car. He even threatened to refuse to give me a car if I didn't "calm down."
As someone who has traveled for business for over 12 years, I have rented many cars in various locations around the world. I have never had such a bad experience with a rental car company. While I have had holds placed on my credit card before, they have typically been for much smaller amounts, usually between $100 and $400. The policy of Thrifty Rent-A-Car in Ireland is detrimental to their business, and I have no desire to ever rent from them again.
Overall, my experience with Thrifty Rent-A-Car was extremely frustrating and disappointing. The insistence on purchasing their insurance and the high hold on my credit card felt like extortion, and the agent's unhelpful attitude only made things worse. I would not recommend renting from Thrifty Rent-A-Car in Ireland.
Disappointing Experience with Thrifty Rent-A-Car: Hidden Fees and Poor Customer Service
I rented a car for my vacation through Thrifty at Oakland Airport. When I arrived, I was disappointed to find out that the car wasn't ready for me. The service rep told me to wait for 30 minutes and come back. I waited patiently and returned, but to my surprise, the service rep was no longer there. A new agent was there, and he didn't know who I was. He told me that I had to go to Hertz to get my car. I was frustrated, but I went to Hertz and was able to get the car through them. I left feeling annoyed and disappointed.
When I returned the car, I paid what I owed and thought that was the end of it. However, a week or two later, I received a bill in the mail for $49 for 7 tolls, plus an administrative fee of $105. I was shocked and confused. I contacted the Thrifty rep and was informed that I signed a rental agreement and that information was on the form that I signed. I explained that I would be willing to pay one administrative fee of $15, but that $15 fee for each bridge crossing was extremely outrageous. As a tourist, I was unfamiliar with the bridges in the Bay Area, which do not have any lanes that you can pay the toll with cash. I expected to pay the toll with cash, but that was not an option. Thrifty counts on this to gouge their unsuspecting customers, and they certainly don't advertise this fact. No agent explained this to me when I rented the car. It was a shady dealing from this company, and they've lost a customer.
Judging from the volume of complaints on this site, I assume that poor quality and ripping off their customers are their company mantra. It's unfortunate that Thrifty Rent-A-Car has such a bad reputation. I hope they take steps to improve their customer service and be more transparent about their fees and policies. Until then, I will not be renting from them again.
