Thrifty claimed that I returned the rental after being in an accident
I recently rented a car from Thrifty in Minneapolis. I returned the car over two weeks ago. I just received a letter stating that I was in an accident and returned the car with damage. There was ABSOLUTELY no damage on the car when I returned it. When I filled it up with gas just prior to returning it, I walked around the car (as I always do) checking for anything such as dents and/or scratches. There was NOTHING. I also walked around the car when I picked it up (as I always do), and there was no damage, except for low pressure in a rear tire.
I didn't take any pictures when I returned it. How do I fight this false claim? Is it a scam? I have heard of other scams related to Hertz where they claim that a car was never returned when in fact it was.
Desired outcome: Hertz/Thrifty should drop any claim that the car was damaged upon being returned. It was NOT damaged or scratched in any way when I returned it.
Billing
RR # [protected]
I rented a car from thrifty out of Logan airport during the pandemic. They had plexiglass installed you couldn’t get within 6 feet of the person Adrian you were talking with. They wouldn’t give you a copy of the contract because of Covid. I told them that I did not want Roadside assistance because I have AAA and that I didn’t need the extra insurance because I was fully insured. I called thrifty about the error in billing and they refused to discuss it .I called Barclays credit card to dispute the charge and they put a Went through their procedure of disputes and contacted Thrifty and then Barclays let me know that thrifty did not dispute the claim and they credited my account. Now thrifty is trying to come after me for that same money they lost in the dispute.
Desired outcome: That they honor the resolution by Barclays credit card
Car rental MCO Airport /Roadside Assistance
At 12.45pm on 3/23/2022 I called Thrifty on +[protected] for assistance after a 45 min wait I was connected to a representative of Thrifty (Mark)
I explained that I was a lone woman and my electronic key fob was not working and would not allow me to open the car
I was given # [protected] reference number
The representative explained to me how to pull the key out of the fob
I did so and entered the car I was then told to hold the fob to the start button for 45 seconds to try and reconnect it (although I believe the battery in the fob was the problem not a disconnection problem and the battery needed changing)
The car still would not start
I requested a new car be delivered to my hotel but was told they couldn’t do that
I was then given the reference number above and told to go back into my hotel and roadside assistance would be there within the hour and ring my phone or hotel room as I had given them my room number
After 1.5hrs I contacted Thrifty again and was told that they couldn’t give a time estimate although I had been given a 1hr time estimate I then asked for email address or phone number to lodge a complaint - she put the phone down on me
I then rang again at 5.30pm and asked for an estimated time of arrival for assistance but was told she couldn’t get through to a representative I asked her (Ashanti) to continue trying to contact the representative but she put the phone down on me
I am still waiting 5 1/2hrs later after my original call and still no roadside assistance or time estimate for assistance
Desired outcome: Please get Roadside Assistance to me as soon as possibleI request a refund of the cost of 1day rental upto now but as Roadside Assistance still hasn’t arrived this may need to be extended
Toll Fees & Fines
Rental Agreement Number: [protected]
Plate State and Number: TN 9S43P2
Rental Start Date: 12/22/2021 10:58am
I was asked about tolls at the time I rented the vehicle. "Are you going to be driving around on the toll roads?", he asked. I acknowledged that I would be. That was all that was said. I assumed I would be responsible for tolls, but not for fines and administrative fees. This is a complete scam.
I am fine paying the tolls, but I am not okay with the $90 fee. This is more than the tools. The full amount of $153.46 was billed to my credit card on 2/19/2022.
Desired outcome: I request that the $90 be refunded back onto the card.
Car rental at SLC airport
I had used Priceline to book flight and car thrifty was my car rental I paid almost 1100 dollars for a round trip and a car. The car had already been charged to my account. Within a day of purchasing I lost my USAA bank card, ordered a new one. Got to SLC Utah and went to go get my car rental and upon that because I didn't have a major credit card and I had a debit card in addition to the money I already paid for the rental and the insurance they told me they needed an additional 500$ for security. I couldn't do that, because my debit card had not come in mail before i left for my trip so I came with about 300$ I am very upset that basically I'm out about 500$ because of it. No refund no nothing which is not cool I WILL NOT EVER rent a car with them anymore nore will anyone I know.
Desired outcome: I would like a refund honestly for the amount that I paid for the rental car. Or.... Just let me rent the car for what I paid.
Car pick up
After coming off a 4 hour flight with 2 kids, I claimed our baggage and went to the Orlando Thrifty car rental counter. At 11 pm the line to pick up a car was at least 1.5 hours. There was one person working. There were about 60-80 people in line who were in same boat as at 12:30 am. While speaking with other people and other rental car rental agencies we were told that this has been an issue with Thrifty more importantly there were never any cars, regardless of having a reservation. I want a full refund as this isn’t a “me” issue but rather terrible leadership at the management level. I had to rent with Avis which has added an additional $324.00 to my trip.
Fraudulent Tolls Charges
I rented a car for three days from Thrifty Rent A Car in August 2021 as I was a groomsman in a friend's wedding. Since the event was local in the NY area (Brooklyn to Long Island), I didn't opt for toll option. Everything went as scheduled, dropped car with no incident. About two months later in October, I get hit with $75 in toll charges. Since I knew this was bogus I disputed with my credit card company who successfully credited the charges. Fast forward to February 2022, Thrifty has sent the issue to a debt collector for $90! I'm so furious, I'm beside myself. Why on earth would I pass a toll from Brooklyn to Long Island. A quick google search shows these rental companies have been feasting on these fraudulent charges and getting away with it. Not this time!
25$ administrative charges per toll
I rented a car from thrifty they did not mention anything about tool fees. After a month I received three separate toll bills charging $250 administrative fees for 100 bill. They have mentioned that not more than 6 toll bills will be charged but they separated my bills into three to charge me those extra fees. This is unethical business.
Never going to trust them again!
Desired outcome: Removing additional administrative fees
Administrative surcharge for tolls in California
Thrifty offers a per day $11.99 charge to cover tolls that may be incurred while driving in California--the state of FREEWAYS! If you reject that and agree to pay each $6.00 bridge fee, Thrifty adds on an Administrative per incident
surcharge of $15.00. There is no other way to pay the $6.00 -as in a cash
booth.
On a trip to California from December 27th to January 4, 2022, three $6.00 bridge tolls, or $18 total, were billed at $63.00. This is a total ripoff, and an unfair way for a car rental company to gain revenue. In addition, there were non toll charges for "Concession Fee Recovery " of $48.14, A "Customer FAC" fee of $10.00 and a "License Fee" of $9.63. Really?!?
Rental Agreement [protected] 12/27/21 in Oakland, CA
Desired outcome: This revenue generating tactics are exploitive and excessive. I would happily pay a reasonable administrative fee to Thrifty for handling the toll. Certainly not $15.00 each.
Changed the price from original reservation price
I made a reservation with Thrifty Car rental from LAX, Once I arrived. I had to wait one hour to pickup my car as it wasnt ready. Then, My original price quote of $792.29 for my two week car rental (Which I already included the LDW of $238.00 in that price), The counter person said that wasnt acceptable and I couldnt rent the car without the full coverage. He basically forced me to agree to get all the coverages or I couldnt rent the car even though in my quote, I was already paying $238.00 for the LDW. He ended up charging me $1270.29.
I was so pissed off but after 24 hours of travelling, I was forced to pay this fee to get my car. I also ordered a Toyota Corolla and they didnt have it so they gave me a Nissan Altima and I had to wait one hour.
I want the difference refunded to me or I will bring back the car and rent one from someone else. Also, I am retired from Air France after thirty years of travelling to the United States. I have neve been treated like this before. I will also file a complaint with Yelp, Travel advisor and the BBB. I hope this gets resolved right away. My original reservation # K00315432F4
One car reach me at [protected] Vincent Van Meenen
Desired outcome: refund the difference from 1270.29- 790.69 = refund $479.60
MSP airport staff is rude, obnoxious, argumentative, customer service sucks
Hello On 12/28/2001 my parents who are senior citizens had a reservation thru a 3rd party "economybookings.com" where I found an excellent rate which was $16.49 per day and Insurance was $9.99 p/d for 7 days which I paid $199, great. when my parents pick up the car they requested an upgrade assuming a low rate! they were charged $200 plus tax for upgrade and an additional $35.99 per day 7x for LDW which is crazy, when it was presented to my parents they were truly outraged because they were trying to figure out why they were charged $500 extra, and other fees uncertain they signed off on it when presented but the agent did not explain the high fees. that was the whole reason for getting a cheap rate. if they would have explained it to them they would have gone with the 3rd party and made the change for $50 as opposed to $500. Why would we pay 3 times the amount for the car? When we returned the car we tried talking to an agent about this and That "Black [censored]" (I'm black myself) is a poor excuse of a human and the woman instantly rolled her eyes and gave an attitude and sternly told us we accepted it and that was the end. she told the manager that she didn't want to deal with "those people" and pushed us off to the manager. The Manager was very rude and clearly was not listening to our problem told us the same thing when we only asked if he could reduce something from the bill not that we by far don't need the money back as its the principle of taking advantage of senior citizens maybe a day or fee, something! and (that same day rented another car) as it was not explained thoroughly because we went from paying $200 to $787 we said who would pay that much for a @200 deal? we weren't asking for him to clear our bill but only to somehow reduce it. he was very rude and stern and was not really trying to hear us at all. The bottom line is he was not professional and was trying to hurry us out. I feel as my senior parents were taken advantage of and that is not good customer service. We are trying to go about this the right way by contacting customer support.
thanks
adolph sullivan
Desired outcome: Hopefully some type of refund , credit promo or something! lose that staff on 2nd shift
An apology for making my life miserable for 13 days.!!!
Do not rent from thrifty or any car owned by hertz!
I rented a car from Thrifty at Manchester NH airport on 12/7/21 to 12/11/21.
I returned the car before the set time at noon. The parking garage was very quiet.
As you enter the garage there was a box labeled "drop the keys" and I did not know where to park the car, so I went to the location I picked up the car, at the Thrifty Booth. There was no one around until a man came out, looked for damages, gas full etc. I gave him the keys and wet on my way.
The following day I found my credit card has posted "pending" of $93, THAT WENT ON FOR 12 DAYS. I called Thrifty 3 times and they said "the contract is not closed"
FOR THE FOLLOWING DAYS I RECEIVED MESSAGES ON MY HOME PHONE FROM HETZ (they own Thrifty, dollar and another) TELLING ME TO BRING THE CAR BACK. I called them 3 times, told them I had no idea where the car was. It came to be harassing! One of the messages was for me to return the "Lyft" and it was going to be reprocessed.?
They finally sent the receipt and the 12 $93 eventually went away.
Never provided a vehicle, refuses to refund and committed fraud
On 9/28/21 I pre-booked and pre-paid (w/son's cc) the rental of a mazda vehicle for 10/3/21 through 10/4/21 to be picked up at the boston/logan intl. Airport. Upon arriving at the thrifty pick-up around 12am on 10/3, we were told that "thrifty did not have any vehicles" at that location and were unable to provide us with one. In essence, leaving us stranded at midnight at the airport, approximately 1 + hours away from our reserved hotel. The thrifty employee did advised that thrifty would be "automatically refunding" the monies paid to them for the rental within 24-48 hours. After having to wait for about an hour in a lengthy line at budget car rental, we were able to rent a car from them, but for $122.85 more than what we were charged by thrifty.
Upon arriving back home, we checked to see if thrifty had refunded the money and they had not. I then contacted thrifty with regards to the matter and was told I need to contact my global club membership (whom I went through when booking the reserveration) with regards to the refund. I immediately called them and they advised that they would look into the matter (in essence, calling the same number I had and telling them that my money needed to be refunded). They asked that I check back in a couple days. 4 days later I contacted them as the money still had not been refunded and again, was told that they were "working on it." after about a week and half - two weeks, I again contacted them, but only got their voicemail. I left a message with them. After not receiving a call back, I then emailed both thrifty and global and advised we would be disputing the charge on my son's cc for the payment as no refund had been received.
My son did dispute the charge which was on his best buy citibank card and they did reverse the charge and initiated an investigation.
Now, however, he received a letter from them stating that after "their investigation," (which appears only receiving a copy from thrifty of my initial receipt for the booking), they advised that he is still liable for the rental charge!
in essence, by sending best buy citibank (son's credit card) thrifty claims that they "did" provide a vehicle, which is outright fraud!
Desired outcome: FULL REFUND AND AMOUNT PAID TO BUDGET REIMBURSED
Left stranded at airport and thrifty refuses to refund pre-paid booking!!
I reserved and pre-paid for a Car rental through Thrifty with my Vacation Membership. Upon flying into Boston (plane got in around 11:30pm), we were told by Thrifty employees that they did NOT have any vehicles and basically were leaving us stranded at the airport! They did say that I would automatically receive a refund though since the rental was prepaid. After more than hour, ended up finding and renting a vehicle through Budget, for more $$. When I got back home, I checked to see if the credit card in which was used to pay for the vehicle was credited back. It was not. I then attempted to contact Thrifty who told me I had to contact my vacation membership and informed them what had occurred. They advised they would make sure the $ was refunded. After 2 weeks, I noted that it had not. I called them back and left a message and also attempted to send emails to both parties. After which, the charge on the credit card was disputed. Now, the credit card company, Citibank "claims" to have investigated the case and after only receiving from Thrifty a copy of the original receipt and booking of the vehicle, went ahead and re-charged my son's card! Thrifty not only left us stranded in the middle of the night at the Airport, but has refused to refund the money paid to them for the car rental and more importantly, is claiming (visa via the dispute charge with Credit Card co) that the charge was legit, when it was NOT as they failed to honor their side of the agreement, by providing a vehicle!
Desired outcome: Full refund, plus a refund for the amount had to pay to Budget to rent another car!!

FIRST I address the most serious complaint.
Simply put THRIFTY IS DEFRAUDING TRUSTING CUSTOMERS .by playing little shameless games just to rip off few EXTRA dollars. Here is how they treated me.
On the day of rental at the counter, the agent asked me how I intend to pay the toll. I asked him about options and he suggested ‘TOLL PLATE' he explained a flat charge of 10.99 per day will take care of ALL TOLLS. so I asked him to please add and his reply was ‘ sure will ‘. Later he hands over the rental agreement and I noticed SOME charges looked in order but the charge for TOLLS was missing. I pointed this to him and he picked up a marker and wrote in BOLD letters by hand on the jacket ‘ADD TOLLS PLZ?. He asked me to show this to the agent downstairs when I pick up the car. (IMAGE of jacket ENCLOSED.)
AT the pick-up counter I show the jacket to the agent who gave the most ridicule look and said SIR, TOLLS ARE AUTOMATIC what does the idiot at the rental counter wants him to do. I felt very uneasy at his response but move on. Later while exiting the car lot I showed the writing on jacket to the security guard who was letting cars go out and he gave me another ridicule look and added a smirk to his face. I didn't know then but I know now why they were smirking. They were feeling proud of getting another victim - ME.
A FEW DAYS LATER I received a demand letter from the CORRUPT THRIFTY SHAMELESS BILLING DEPARTMENT stating a charge of 9.99 on EVERY toll totaling to = $ 249.75 with a generous discount of 159.84 = I PAY 119.72 OF WHICH tolls are only 29.81. other than these ridiculous charges the issue is -NOT ONCE BY NOT ONE PERSON EVER MENTIONED VERBALLY OR IN WRITING THIS EXHORBITANT SHAMELESS FRAUD ADMINISTRATIVE CHARGES. IT IS NOT POSTED ANYWHERE ON THE RENTAL COUNTER/WALL OR ANYWHERE ELSE AT THE RENTAL PLACE. THEY TRIED THEIR BEST TO HIDE IT AND THEY HAVE SUCCEEDED.
THIS SCAM although looks complex but is very SIMPLE to execute. AT THE TIME OF RENTAL ALL THEY DO IS QUIETLY HIDE THE RIP OFF CHARGES, AND JUST DON'T TELL THE UNSUSPECTING CUSTOMER and later CHARGE AT WILL.
THE STATE OF FLORIDA charges $2.50 as administrative fees for any unpaid tolls and this fee is per invoice NOT PER TOLL. So why is THRIFTY CHEATING so much money while a state of Florida is struggling just to be fair to its residents?
I REFUSE TO PAY THESE FRAUD CHARGES FOR BOGUS RIP-OFF ADMINISTRATIVE FEES UNLESS ORDERED BY A JUDGE IN A COURT OF LAW WHERE I CAN PRESENT MY CASE UNDER OATH. I WANT THRIFTY TO LIE IN FRONT OF A JUDGE IN A OPEN COURT AND I WANT THE MEDIA TO WITNESS THIS FRAUD.
OR
THESE FRAUD CHARGES SHOULD BE PAID BY THRIFTY
1) the CRIMINAL mind THRIFTY MANAGER who designed this RIP OFF toll charge system
2) the THRIFTY DIRECTOR who allowed this scam and is filling his pockets with these ill-gotten gains
3) THE THRIFTY SUPERVISOR who is supervising this SCAM.
4) The THRIFTY AGENTS who shamelessly EXECUTE this scam. probably to make some EXTRA COMMISSION
THRIFTY ALTHOUGH YOU HAVE THREATENED ME IN YOUR LETTER PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO CHARGE ANY UNAUTHORIZED CHARGES TO MY CREDIT CARD WITHOUT MY APPROVAL IN WRITING. IF YOU DO I WILL FILE A FRAUD CLAIM AGAINST YOU.
STATE OF FLORIDA PLEASE help. you have the tools, resources, and law on your side to deal with this CORRUPT THRIFTY CAR RENTAL COMPANY. I can only write emails or make phone calls, I feel so helpless against these criminals. - please TAKE ACTION AND SHOW THEM THEIR PLACE.
SECOND COMPLAINT = TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
to understand this you have to first visualize me. A disabled senior citizen who walks with a walking stick but has rented cars from thrifty and other rental companies since 1980. This was NOT my first rental just my first MOST TERRIBLE car rental with THRIFTY.
First, it took forever to rent at the counter even though I had reservations. The problem for the delay as I understand was something to do with UNAUTHORISED DEBIT CARD charges by THRIFTY to some unsatisfied customers.
Finally, after 2 hours my turn came and I proceeded downstairs to pick up my car. There was a shortage of cars and a long line for car pick up. There was a supervisor with the name tag - MICHELLE a very rude, arrogant, incompetent woman. She was just shouting at customers if anybody even dared to ask when will we get the cars. Finally, my turn came and I walk slowly to the car but before I could reach my car another lady customer jumped the line and took off in my car. I looked back at the supervisor who now was sitting in her easy chair making personal phone calls. She had a radio in hand and I asked her to call security and stop that car but instead, this horrible lady started shouting at me to GET BACK IN LINE so I said LADY I WAS IN THE LINE AND SHE SAYS NO I have to get back in the BACK of the line. Even the customers started feeling bad but then a nice thrifty car valet saw what just happened, felt bad, and said to me SIR PLEASE STAND HERE I WILL GET A CAR FOR YOU. HE RAN And got a car and said to me SIR GO PLEASE GO. I said my agreement is for a compact car but this is a full-size car and he again stressed SIR PLEASE GO, PLEASE GO. At the security gate again I told the security guard that my agreement is for a compact car but this is a full-size car, he just seem not to care, raised the gate and told me to go
I know there is NO law for good customer service BUT I have learned my lesson and AVOID THRIFTY AS PLAQUE.
Desired outcome: STOP THIS SCAM
thrifty got me good. $34.00 in tolls and a wopping administrative fee of $375.00. never will rent from them again.
Rental customer service
To Whom it may Concern,
On 11-28-21 my wife and I were to fly from Syracuse New York to DFW via Chicago. Our AA flight into DFW was delayed due to weather and lack of flight crew. We had reserved a car for the weekend and needed it to get to our hotel room.
By the time we disembarked the Thrifty office in DFW was closed. We walked to the arrival concourse only to find no cabs, no Uber no Lyft and no service. We ended up calling the hotel to arrange for a shuttle. When the shuttle finally arrived it was full. Angry People whom had been waiting for two hours pushed their way onto the bus and ended up sitting on laps. We got into our hotel @ 1:00AM. In an effort to continue to our prearranged plans we were up fours hours later and took another shuttle back to DFW and waited for the Thrifty desk to open. The gentleman there was helpful but here is where the problems began.
• Refer to attached pdf.
• We were charged $101.97 extra for "Loss Dmg". We offered that our personal car insurance would cover any damage. The service person indicated that insurance companies will cover the repair cost but not any vehicle down time. We had never heard this before and at this time in the morning we could not contact our insurance company to verify. We now learned that they would have.
• We were charged $33.99 for toll charges. Again we were not aware of this charge and we had no way to verify whether we would be going through any tolls.
• We were charged $15.66 for a concession fee. What is that?
• Total cost to rent the car for three days was $374.00. Frankly, with all of the extra charges … not very Thrifty)
• We were told to fill the car's fuel tank within 10 miles of the airport and prove it with a receipt. This was not an issue except that when we returned the car the attendant did not even look at the receipt as was rude about it. She eventually ripped it out of my hand and threw it into the trash without even looking at it. ( more on this later)
• We tried to use our chip credit card but were told that the desk did not have a working chip port. Using the swipe port the card was rejected. Thinking the issue was our credit card companies security protocol we contacted them. They told us it was because we needed to use the chip port. After an hour of negotiating, our credit card company finally allowed the swipe port.
• We then went to the garage to pick up the car. There was no one in the booth. Again a wait.
• Finally a women dressed in a Peanut M&M costume (no kidding) told us to take the blue Volkswagen over there. I asked her verify that the car was damage free. She argued that it was not necessary. I told her it was necessary.
• We asked her for directions to exit the garage and she kind of fleetingly waved her arm in that direction. We apparently were interfering with her job?
• When we got in the car the keys were zip tied to the steering wheel. With out any instruction, we did not know what to do with that. We relocated Peanut M&M. She kind of insinuated we were stupid and hurriedly told us they would cut it off at the exit booth.
• We found the exit booth which had large red stop lights and no one in the booth. Circling around we found another costumed attendant that took us back to the booth, cut the key off the steering wheel and finally sent us on our way.
• Thankfully our three day trip was uneventful until we returned
• We used our GPS and the instructions provided in the contract to return the car. Our GPS told us we had "arrived" …and yet there was no indication of where to go. ( Later we found a sign that is not visible from the direction we had come from. And even then the sign pointed to the left and NOT on an upward angle to indicate we were to go up the ramp.
• Finally finding signs we re-entered the garage in the area where we had picked the car up. We were kind of scolded and sent back out through the same booth. When we got to the booth the women was rude, accused us of not following directions provided. We told her that we had in fact followed the GPS instructions. She implied we had not read the contract and told us to just follow the car that had just left because they were going to the same place. I told her I would not follow another lost customer …and that I preferred she give me directions directly.
• After a rude altercation we finally were on our way and found the location up the ramp to the above floor.
• Upon returning the car we were hurried along, got our baggage out of the trunk and sent on our way.
• I asked the attendant to check over the car to ensure there was no damage. Again she said that was not necessary. Again I insisted that it was. She quickly ran around the car, never looking inside and rudely said there are you satisfied. At this point I do not trust anyone at Thrifty and asked for confirmation, a print out, something that indicates she had inspected the car for damage. She could not produce any record.
• This is when I tried to provide the gas receipt that we were told to provide. She rudely snatched it from my hand, said If you insist, crumpled it up and threw it in the trash.
I am not sure why your customer service people were so unhelpful and rude. Perhaps it is the new COVID 19 normal. I can only say shame on us a American's if this is the way we are going to receive paying costomers form around the country and the world.
I would ask that, at minimum, Thrifty reimburse us for the extra insurance cost of $101.97.
Sincerely,

rental car
I reserved car online.
I went to the desk. This took about 15 minutes to somehow verify what I already did online which makes me question the point of reserving online.
I got my rental agreement. There was little guidance as to the next step.
I waited more than one hour for someone to clean the car I had "reserved".
Needless to say I would never, ever, ever rent from Thrifty again.
I just told my company to pay the extra few bucks to avoid Thrifty.
Just a really badly managed company.
Stay away.
Desired outcome: Never to use them again.
Price gouging
I rented a vehicle online from Expedia, which gave me a price of $368.13. This included taxes and fees. Thrifty refused to honor the total price of Expedia charged, instead Thrifty added their own fees which amounted to $683.00.
In that cost was for additional drivers
I was charged $30 a day per driver for additional drivers. The standard rate is $13.50 per driver per day.
Desired outcome: Refund for overage of payment for additional drivers and honor Expedia price for taxes and fees.
Auto Rental
Message: Vehicle "overheating" issue: case # [protected]
(rental locator: [protected])
I rented a Thrifty vehicle starting 4/6/21.
On 4/8 the temperature gauge showed that the car was overheating (it was registering at HOT); I called Thrifty, they had the vehicle towed on the morning of 4/9/21. I did NOT get a replacement vehicle because they said that I would have to make my own way back the the rental location (Kona airport) to pick up the replacement vehicle; and my schedule did not allow for that! (Thrifty would NOT deliver me the replacement vehicle!)
I emailed the company twice with this information, and asked for a refund. The company "auto" replied to my email, so they definitely received it! I never received another response; so I cancelled payment with Visa. Visa reviewed my email to Thrifty, and then called the company to discuss. Visa then gave me full credit.
Now I am getting letters from Thrifty that I owe then the full balance, and other letters stating that my Thrifty Rental privileges have been revoked!
Desired outcome: Apology from Thrifty & reinstate my rental privileges!
Car Rental
The Thrifty agreement estimated my charges of $31/day for an initial rental beginning September 14 and ending September 20. The estimated charge was $306.53. Instead, upon my return on September 17, 2021, Thrifty charged $168/day or a total charge of $663.02.
I had to terminate my rental early (September 17) due to a medical emergency experienced by my wife (she had a heart attack and was hospitalized). Thrifty claimed that they changed my rate from a weekly rate to a daily rate ($168/day). Thrifty didn't provide any explanation as to how they calculated the rate or how they were damaged by the early retun.
I never agreed to the new rate. Thrifty claimed I was supposed to call them before I returned the car. Frankly, that is absurd. I was not focused on Thrifty's needs, but rather my wife's medical emergency.
I called customer service twice. Each time the representatives (they said that they were located in El Salvador) refused to adjust the rate.
Thrifty's argument is without merit. Rental cars are in short supply so they more than likely rented the vehicle. They were not damaged by the early rental return.
Also, the increased daily rate was specious. How did they come up with a rate 500% higher? By their logic, they could have charged me any rate they chose. That is the argument of a monopolist, not a competitive company seeking business from the traveling public.
Desired outcome: I'd like credit for returning the car early, not an obscenely high rate which I did not agree to.
