I sent my resume to the website www.topresume.com, but they told me that it was really bad. They offered me that they would write resume for me, and I needed to pay $200, because it was fast. I paid money and got the resume, which looked like mine, which I sent them before. I have no proof that they copied it, but I wouldn’t recommend you to use this website. I think they cheat and steal money from people. Share this info and post comments.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer's satisfaction.
I relied on the representations made by "Katie" at Doostang d/b/a TopResume. I completed the survey requested and submitted two resumes for the resume writer's reference and use. What I received in response was a 1/2 page of nonsense that in no way qualified, by accepted standards for resume writing, as a "resume". This is a total rip off - buyer beware!
TopResume is a scam don't bother believing the hype.
I am sorry I didn't do more research because all of the above complaints are true. I bought a package that came with a lot of promises but not much else. My first draft was completely made up - the writer Amara appeared to have googled the company I worked for and based my experience on her basic research on the company and not much else. Very little of my actual experience or skills were included in the first draft. When I complained over 5 days ago I was assigned a new writer who I am still waiting to hear from. I have requested a refund only to be told that they have a no refund policy. This company is a complete rip-off!
I started out the process by completing their questioner that asked about my experience and expectations for my resume.
The first draft came and it was like the writer did not even look at my questioner. The writer used none of the information I supplied him with and did not even change any of the wording from my original resume. All he did was add a summary and change the formatting. I email the writer back about my dissatisfaction and he wrote back and said he would fix it.
I received the second draft which was even worse than the first! I had marked the first draft with a bunch of revisions in which he ignored. All the writer did was delete duties for two of my positions to make it shorter. Did I forgot to say that my original resume was less than one page and some how with the horrible formatting used it was almost two. Of course the writer sent the revision right before my revision period was over, so I did not have a chance to reply.
If you are going to spend money on getting your resume redesigned I would highly recommend using another service.
Why I did not see these complaint before I pay the topresume service? Those complaint is so helpful. I paid a resume and cover letter service, and then topresume matched me a writer. When the writer wrote to me, her tone sounds she never looked at my answer of the questioners. And, both representation named "Katie" and the writer did not let me know the writer's real full name. Do you think this is problem? I do. The email writer send to me even has no any "topresume" symbol. I am considering ask the refund.
Unfortunately, Katie made the mistake of attempting to "review" a plaintiff attorney's resume and send him (me) a worthless, generic reply before illegally billing me $39.95 without my consent, approval, or knowledge.
It is my hope that you will use the following refund demand letter to ensure your reimbursement for TopResume's charge; incidentally, this charge could amount to a lot of different violations, including the possibility of fraudulent inducement and theft by deception. BTW, I am not Eric Cartman, I just adopted his otherwise likely strategy :)
PLEASE take action. I hope this helps:
Hi Katie: I am writing to thank you for your critique of my resume and to demand an immediate refund, in full, of the unexpected fee of $39.95 against my checking account from TopResume ("Company).
First, please know that, even if a fee notice were somehow provided to me, that the company's notice is incontrovertibly deliberate in its attempt to mislead the customer into trusting that the company legitimately offered a "free" critique as the company advertised before and throughout my signup process.
As you should know, State-level law and case precedence are irrelevant concerning the Court's view that unintentional false advertising is grounds for liability for interstate fraud and that deliberate deceptions is grounds for interstate fraud, deceptive advertising, and theft by trick.
The Company should be aware that I have already briefed and transmitted documentation of this incident to my former supervising attorney and that we are prepared to submit a pleading charging you with the above-identified charges, in addition to saturating your clients and the Internet with a summary of your deception for financial gain, as well as a report and complaint to the Attorney General's office as a proactive measure in case a civil charge against you fails.
Please advise the Company to contact me directly at XXX no later than 12:00 p.m. (X), January (X), 201(X). As a preliminary matter, please rest assured that a simple refund will not suffice in this case.
I have copied my attorney on this email and we anticipate hearing from the Company tomorrow morning in order to attempt to informally resolve this matter. Finally, I have notified the Office of the Attorney General for the State of Maryland and notified the Deputy Prosecutor's division of my suspended complaint, which will only be withdrawn subsequent to execution of an acceptable and fair settlement.
Sincerely,
Eric Cartman

This website is an absolute joke. Four weeks ago, right before Christmas, I submitted my resume to TopResume.com for review. I had been told by numerous sources that they provide a free critique of your resume and offer you the option to pay for one of their professionals to actually rework your resume with the critiques they provided. I received a confirmation email immediately after uploading my resume which included the name and contact information for the person who would be working on it, but being that it was Christmas within two days of my having submitted my document I wasn't expecting to hear back from Katie Warren before the holiday. I also allowed time the following week knowing that New Years was soon enough and decided that I would reach out to Katie directly after New Years to inquire about my pending review. Upon emailing her on Monday January 4th I received a reply from her the net day notifying me that the document containing my resume wasn't working properly and asking me to send another format, which I promptly did along with the request that if there were any other issues to please let me know immediately. While I do think it was a bit lax for Katie not to let me know, being that she's this professional, that a document that she needed wasn't working when I myself would have had no idea, I was willing to overlook it. The following Monday, having still NOT heard back with any sort of critique when I was told about how quick TopResume.com is about such things, I emailed Katie yet again to inquire and the response I got back was basically "Oh I'm sorry, I have a lot of emails in my inbox and didn't see yours. Can you re-send?" Now as most people in any sort of field can tell you, that can often be taken as a brush off by someone you're dealing with via email and I was flabbergasted that my resume, which had now been sent in over two weeks prior, was not deemed important enough to work on compared to the newer resumes and interactions Katie had received since. Again, I promptly re-sent the email containing my resume and asked that she please confirm that she received it. No such luck. After two days of once again hearing NOTHING from this woman I decided to email TopResume.com directly through their contact link and voice my dissatisfaction. That was Wednesday. The following day I ONCE AGAIN emailed Katie, this time dropping much of my pleasant demeanor and got right to the point, that I was still waiting for some sort of review of my resume and that I found it mildly offensive that a representative for a website that touts itself as an authority in the field of resume building should be so unprofessional AND would encourage me to spend my money for them to actually work on improving my resume. It's now a week after that and not only have I not heard from Katie, who is without a doubt an absolutely shining example of the word unprofessional, but I've also not heard a word from TopResume.com either, which is a clear sign that, to them, customer dissatisfaction means not a goddamn thing. I don't know whether or not this company is legit, but their level of professionalism and concern for their customers is, in my experience, completely nonexistent and I'm absolutely disgusted with them. I never, ever vent my frustrations regarding businesses or things like that online because almost all of the time the effort involved in doing said complaining just doesn't seem worth it for the miniscule offense, but this is a rare exception. DO NOT USE TopResume.com. They are full of s*** and their customer service is a joke. You'd have more luck using your money to bribe a hiring manager into accepting your application.
I was interested in hiring this company based on their website, which is much better than most of the other resume writing websites out there. However, after reading these comments, I am going to pass. In addition, I emailed and messaged them several times and never got a response. I wanted to establish that they had decent customer service prior to hiring them and make sure they weren't just an offshore resume mill. I don't think Katie is a real person. Very disappointing.
Check out the Better Business Bureau review rating - F: http://www.bbb.org/new-york-city/business-reviews/resume-service/topresume-in-new-york-ny-151339
Run away from these people, the whole site is a complete scam. They have good reviews on sites like Trustpilot, but those reviews are clearly bought and paid for. If you look through the (many) negative reviews, one guy even discloses that they tried to pay him to leave a good review! The company's response didn't deny it at all, they simply say that this is their way of growing their business and spreading the word. Hmm, I wonder if getting money would influence a person's review?
They respond extremely slowly (if at all), the whole thing is unprofessional, it's just ridiculous. Don't spend your money here. I filed a complain with the BBB, but, as another user points out, they already have an F rating. They clearly don't care.
I just emailed my resume to Topresume.com for a free critique. Katie emailed back after an hour and said she will email me within the next few days the critique and recommendations. Thank you for this blog, if she offers me to buy their service I'll refuse it.
It's too bad about your losses. You should let others know about it on as many reviews sites as possible. TopResume is owned by Talent Inc which also owns JC Resumes which runs offers on Groupon. They contract out their work to freelancers and sometimes people get lost in the shuffle.
TopResume is rated "F" by the BBB. You can see their profile here: http://www.bbb.org/new-york-city/business-reviews/resume-service/topresume-in-new-york-ny-151339
I don't know who you people are giving 5's but this place is a scam! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They will take your money and then are quick to say that they are busy and have not forgotten about you! During a questionnaire it said I could add files or comments later. Well when I tried to add my cover letter, there was no where to upload it. I emailed support and they said you cannot upload it once the questionnaire is done but you can email it to us. Well I stil have not heard from anyone. Well since that email I am still waiting for something. I am unemployed and thought this would be helpful to land more interviews. I didn't have the money to spend on this service but figured it was a good idea. Obviously I would have been better putting $140 on lottery tickets. There has been no correspondence since the email and they will not refund your money. You will need to go dispute it with your bank. I am watching jobs post and be taken down. Do not use! Do not use! Do not use!
There are numerous incorrect statements on this blog. For example, TopResume does not even sell a service for $39.95, the lowest priced product is $129. Another person says that TopResume's BBB rating is an "F" but it is actually a "A-" see screenshot and link http://www.bbb.org/new-york-city/business-reviews/resume-service/topresume-in-new-york-ny-151339.
Many of the statements here are inaccurate and completely false. One person mentions that he was subscribed to a service for $39.95 but TopResume does not offer a subscription or a service for less than $129. Another person says that you can't trust them because their BBB rating is an "F" but their actual rating is a "A-". See photo and link http://www.bbb.org/new-york-city/business-reviews/resume-service/topresume-in-new-york-ny-151339
Very disappointed with the service. I paid $149 for something I could have done or maybe find on the internet for free. Not significant changes to my original resume. Watch before you spend your money!
Took almost 2 weeks to get a resume writer assigned and draft sent. They allow 1 week of revisions. I informed them I was leaving the country and would be back on the 1st of the month, and she replied she would leave my file open until the 31st, as in the day before I return? I wrote to the company and the resume writer contacted me she would make revisions. It took late night day later for her to answer questions, very vague not much help then said good luck to me. Never sent anything but 1st draft. Pretty much just reformatted my resume, no real new information.

Top resume is big fraud.
They just copied my resume. The writer does not even know my industry.
I cannot even print or download
NEVER Use TOP RESUME
They SUCK!
They are a scam - they baited me with the whole BS email they send everyone else about getting more "achievement" oriented wording in the resume and how they can help with that. I had the same issues everyone else says- they took forever, their communication was AWFUL and the final product was unsatisfactory at best. STAY AWAY

In addition to my above comments, my resume had my Bachelors degree as "Behavior and Social Sciences" and she gave my resume back to me with "Behavior and Social Services"?!?!?..wtf
I chose TopResume because they had good reviews and their price point was cheaper than the other services that I considered. The truth is that they don't list all of the included services until you buy in with the big bill and then they let you know that if you want a thank you letter, cover letter and linked in profile help it will be extra. Those are included in the transparent overall price on other sites so the cost winds up being the same but they trick you into believing it will be cheaper.
The resume writer was slow to produce everything, unresponsive at times and clearly has no understanding of corporate finance. They only provide two drafts and she wrote the first without even speaking to me so it was kind of a waste because she did not have the materials that i could have given her and she did not understand the direction I wanted to go in. Once I gave her feedback she waited until the last minute to deliver the final version which then I could not ask for revisions on.
The cover letter and thank you letter are stock and they really do not do much to personalize it for you. When I pointed out some issues with how it presented me they never fixed them.
Altogether I could have done a much better job if I had had the time. I believe there are resume writers out there with better service but I would not recommend TopResume to anyone.
I received a promo today which is a Monday Oct. 3rd 2016 @ 9:23AM... offering $100.00 OFF thru this weekend (So I have questions since its now Monday and the weekend is over.) I have tried several times today to contact with the writer Katie Warren at TopResume to no avail. I wanted clarification on the promo since I received it on a Monday and the promo again stated thru the weekend. I have sent a total of 4 e-mails and NO RESPONSE. I wanted to know if I could still use the promo and pay the difference in whatever option I would select.
AT THIS POINT I WILL FIND ANOTHER COMPANY ... PLEASE READ THE COMPAINTS REGARDING THIS SERVICE BEFORE YOU WORK WITH THEM...BUYER BE CAREFUL! VERY UNHAPPY WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THS COMPANY
Top Resume is the biggest fraud I have seen for resume building, they claim they are industry experts on the basis of nothing. They don't even talk to you enough to understand your profile, let alone create a resume that's good enough.
Its frustrating to live in a connected world like today & still be cheated by a small group of people like TopResume & not being able to bring them to fore-front in a way that they won't be able to do business anymore.
We MUST create something where people can provide details of fraudulent websites much easily thats going viral on YouTube/Facebook/LinkedIn such that no other people use it ever.
They cheat and they suck ... DONT GO HERE, you can do a better job that any of their writers.
The support@topresume.com is a hoax, they will just say they will resolve & will do nothing. I just witnessed it when i paid $300 for getting premium service. At the end, i would not even use this resume.
They basically copied my resume ditto, word by word. Only addition was a summary section which i didn't like because its not even specific to the role that i want to apply for. They say they allow revisions, bull crap. When i asked for revision, they said they are industry experts. So, they know better about how to get resume created.
Lastly, when i said i am only getting my resume rewritten because i want to get calls from interviewers based on the new resume & its not upto standard. They said that's outside of their service. What kind of guarantee are they talking about if they can't even write resume that'll create more contacts by recruiters.
Also, check out how little they pay their writers. No wonder the resumes aren't much good. No-one could do a decent job and still get paid at minimum wage!

I thought this service would be sufficient since they seemed to be affiliated with my graduate school career services. I paid $149 (which was a discount) on 10/13 for a resume revision and cover letter. I followed up on 10/21 and was sent a resume full of errors (I'm talking misspelling an Ivy league school, my position title, misstating my phone number and email). I get this unusable revision the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and am told I have until the next Monday to request any revisions. Like most people, I travel for Thanksgiving, so I said that doesn't work for me but there was no flexibility demonstrated.
I twice requested a phone conference and was told that they don't do that. I mean, I work full-time and am a graduate student, so I thought it would be less time-consuming to communicate my vision for the resume, etc. It's pretty clear that this company just takes your money and then makes it as difficult as possible to communicate with them. I am currently having my credit card company dispute the charge.
This place is a rip off, they take advantage of unemployed customers. You tell them what you want on your resume and cut it in half and then they send you a Resume that is not adequate, then they make one change (so they say) and then say they will not make any more changes. You call your Credit Card Company and after many emails they say that because their "no refund policy" they cant do anything. Basically you are giving your Money away to Top Resume. You will then have to call Master Card or Visa directly and go around your bank policies to let them know that your bank who is supposed to be helping you broke the guidelines set by Master Card or Visa. Bottom line "DO NOT USE THEM" I even send the crappy Resume they did to another company and they deemed it to be only 70% efficient. TRUST ME DONT USE THEM

I had been unemployed for four months when I went to Topresume. I thought a new professional resume would help. I started using it two weeks later. It is now two months later and I only had one call. Waste of money and they were not helpful at all. I wanted a refund or rewrite and they said no, meanwhile I had called two weeks before and they said they would do a rewrite at the two month mark. When I called as I said they did nothing. Don't waste your money and find someone else.
Wrong SaraL1. These reviews are accurate and completely true.
An "A" rating from BBB does not mean that TopResume is a reputable business. The rating only means that the company answered the complaints. In most cases, TopResume replied to their 68 complaints with the same canned response. If someone persists, the company will refund the payment. On the top left of the page the BBB states: THIS BUSINESS IS NOT BBB ACCREDITED. It has a 100% negative Customer Review Rating: ([9] Reviews and [68] Complaints. It has a Composite Score of 3.45 stars out of 5 stars. If you want your money back, review and complain about this company on the BBB website. More honest negative reviews will lower the Composite Score. Here is the link as of March 6, 2017.

Rebuttal of positive review on 21st of May, 2016 by SarahL1.
*They reviewed my resume as a Technical Writer for free from a link I found on a job site. I found TopResume's analysis to be rambling, inaccurate and unprofessional. Conclusion: I won't be paying for their service and advise others to avoid this company.
Horrible service. I could have gotten a ten year old kid to write a better resume. My original resume was much better than the first draft they sent back. I was so disappointed that I cancelled immediately after opening the attachment. Worst yet, you don't get your money back. Please DON'T waste your time and money. You will be bitterly disappointed. They are a bunch of thieves in sheep's clothing. DANGER ALERT! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! RUN FAR AND FAST FROM TOPRESUME.
TopResume was a total waste of money, I should have known when they had trouble finding "someone familiar with science" to do my review from jump street. They totally hosed my resume, completed with spelling errors, incorrect dates and addresses. There grantee is nonexistent! My experience is similar to that of JC13 never again.
Scientific and pissed off, DAB
TopResume are honorable wolves in sheep's clothing
TopResume are honorable thieves. Their response to reviews are face value! Designed to give readers the impression that they are trying their best to resolve the issue. DON'T BE FOOLED!
DANGER ALERT! PLEASE RUN FAR AND FAST FROM TopResume! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
