On 4/28 I visited their sales floor and picked out a Jeep Wrangler I wanted to make an offer on. I let the sales associate know I would be financing the vehicle prior to him presenting me with a cost breakdown. After a test drive I was presented a sheet with a sales price of $35,873 and no line item for a financing incentive. I asked if there was any room to negotiate and the sales associate asked me "what would make you happy". I told him what would make me happy wouldn't really be fair to the dealership, but out of fairness to both parties I would make an offer of 34K which I felt was a reasonable request. The sales associate agreed and thanked me. The associate quickly returned with an adjusted sales price of $34,373, exactly $1500 less. Again it is important to point out there was still no financing incentive line on the sheet. I thought this was fair and green lighted a credit pull. While waiting I realized something didn't seem right and it seemed like the $34,373 was a price I'd seen before. I pulled up the internet advertisement and realized they had not given me the $1500 financing discount that was advertised. I thought this must just have been an oversight and maybe they would include it later. When the associate returned to let me know I was approved I pointed out this omission. The associate immediately looked stunned and started to babble something I really didn't follow. He said he made a mistake and that he had to take it back to whom I'm assuming was the decision team. He came back and let me know they could not honor the financing incentive because they had negotiated on the price. He tried to present me with Kelly Blue Book information, however I reiterated that we had negotiated the sales price and I did not see any connection between the financing incentive and the sales price. I asked to speak with his manager and a gentleman came in and seemed confused by my explanation. He told me things like “the associate didn’t know you were financing when he made the offer”. While “financing” and “7,000 down” is written on the original offer sheet. He then tried to tell me that the financial discount was only for those who paid the “Everyone’s price”. He even went so far as to tell me that was written in the small print. I told him that I knew that Bill Luke received incentives for the loan and that there was no line item reflecting a “finance discount”. I told him I was prepared to walk and if they didn’t correct their false advertising and he had a sales manager come over and talk to me. He reiterated the same mantra of the other two. The most concerning issue is that at no time did any of their associates see this as false advertising even though I was financing, and they were unwilling to give me the advertised discount. When I arrived at home, I pulled up their web page and looked up the small print. “Internet price includes $1500 finance bonus cash only available for prime lender financing through Bill Luke, OAC (620+ credit score pulled by dealer)”. The only requirement was the credit score which I was qualified for. The second associate had attempted to deceive me yet again claiming it was only for full priced offers. I called the dealership back that night and asked about the protocol to file a complaint. I left my name and number and was told I’d be called back that night. I received no call. I called back in the morning and the same associate from the call the night before answered. She agreed that I was supposed to receive a call and all she could offer me was to leave a message for the general manager, which I did. Any way you look at this it’s a false advertisement and deceitful business practices. They chose not to present me with all the discounts available and then attempted to repurpose the discount as a negotiation on the sales price. Had they presented me with an offer sheet with a financing discount line and told me they could not come down on the price, they would have arrived at the same price, but it would have been transparent. They wanted to appear that they were negotiating the sales price when they weren’t. If I had known this I would never have allowed them to run my credit and now I have a hard hit, no vehicle, and have had to waste hours of time.
