Mercy San Juan Medical Center - My husbands and my experience in the emergency room

Arrived at 0830 Sunday morning. Husband having psychotic episodes, wandering, etc. c/o chills. Prior history was hospitalization for chills/fever, sepsis. Labs drawn at 0850. Sat and waited until noon when I was told, after approaching a nurse, "you just have to wait if you want help." Nobody else spoke to us.

My husband is 77 years old with dementia. He had no fluids, no food, no meds, no information, no one updating us. After my conversation with the nurse wannabe, I sat down and took out my car keys contemplating leaving the ER. About 2-3 minutes after that, we were ushered back to speak to a doctor. This was approximately 1220. We didn't talk to a doctor for another hour and a half. After all that, and NO satisfaction, a NP talked to us and gave advice to just follow the directions on the pill bottle. Meaning, I could increase by one tablet the Seroquel. There was not much of a physical assessment, he looked at my husbands leg, but there was no other intervention. By this time, it was 1:45. We left.

The attitude of the nurses and doctors was one of arrogance and no compassion. I find this unacceptable.

In my opinion as a RN x 30 years, this is elder abuse and neglect. To be there for nearly 5 hours with nothing more than a recommendation is deplorable. They could have done that within 2 hours and not left us sitting for 3 hours more for absolutely nothing. I would like this addressed and I would like to be notified of your findings. If I don't hear back from you people within a few days, I will hire a lawyer with the emphasis on elder abuse and neglect.

Desired outcome: Fix you staff's attitude toward the elderly who have very little time left on this earth. They need to learn respect for their elders. They act like punk little kids and have no compassion. Fix it!

Mercy San Juan Medical Center - ER Services

I went to the ER on Saturday in the evening. I was having severe abdominal pain and nausea. I get these attacks that last for 15 hours, cause me to moan, hallucinate, I can't sit still, I sweat profusely and am extremely cold. My BP was also very high. That is not normal for me.

Instead of your check-in nurse caring about my symptoms, she made the assumption, again without assessing me, that I was a drug seeker. A quick glance of my records would show that's not true. I was made to feel less than about myself and when my husband rightfully pushed to have me seen your nurse screamed at the top of her lungs in the ER waiting room that she hoped I was happy because I was being seen over other people who were sicker than I was. How would she know she didn't assess me. Also isn't that a HIPA violation? Then the fun continued with the next nurse who also treated me a s a drug seeker. Thankfully the nurse assigned to me once I got a bed was amazing. I have zero issues with him or the attending. Your upfront nursing staff needs training desperately. I am considering going to SM about this as well as the press. How dare your staff accuse me of something without even checking. Too bad my symptoms are similar to a drug seeker. Not. My. Problem. I needed medical help and wasn't going to get it without my husband as my advocate. I am very distressed about this. I can tell you based on the people you hire I will NEVER see a physician or have anything medically to do with Mercy San Juan.

Desired outcome: I expect to hear from someone in regard to this matter. [protected]@gmail.com
