I usually write off interactions with employees as awkward if things feel weird, but I've never dealt with employees in any kind of store or retail as off putting as this person. I didn't manage to catch their name tag because I wanted to leave as soon as possible, but she has blonde hair and is of about 5'5 in height. The first incident was when I asked for help to find something while she was on her phone. I decided to wait for her to finish her business on her phone before approaching and then she says "What." I tell her I am looking for a certain type of paper materials and she just tells me "we don't have that here, " really quickly before going back to her phone. The least I could have hoped for was to be pointed in some direction to continue searching.
The second incident was when I was in line to buy some things. This time, she was on the phone speaking to another customer using the store's phone line. I patiently wait for her to finish, and during this time she can clearly see me as I am the only person standing in line for a few minutes. She soon finishes her call and a few other people come in line behind me, and she immediately calls to the people behind the line to attend to them instead. I'm not a confrontational type of person so I decided to just leave the line and come back so I could get my items checked out by another employee.
I come to this particular Michaels very often over a couple of years because I live nearby, so I have never felt uncomfortable going before. I think I'll just go to a different art store next time.
