Planet Fitness - Bad service and terrible policies

After additional fees appeared on my bank statement I called to inquire. I was treated so disrespectfully that I was shocked. This company can send me emails daily about upgrades and getting friends and family to join, but doesn't notify me of an additional charge, then berates me for asking about it. When I asked if they cared about what a bad customer service experience I had, they said, "No, you'll cancel and pay us $58 to do it."

Don't allow gyms to take advantage of you like this. The automatic deductions are not worth it. These companies make it so hard to cancel, and are so awful to deal with. The only way the bank can help me is to have my account close and reopened.

Never again.

Tried to join the one down in Security. They wanted my bank account information AND my credit card information. I asked if I could just pay up front for one or two years using a credit card. They said no. What kind of idiotic business model is this? I want to join your gym, give you all the money upfront, but you won't let me? No thanks.

WARNING: BEWARE IF SCAMMING ISN'T YOUR THING...This place is awful. Awful I say! I had (still have; trying to get rid of) the black card membership. I wanted my husband and I to go together since he is military and I was prior service and want my fit body back. Planet Fitness lost their damn mind, when they (according to my bank) made several attempts to pull termination fees. I did not use that account often, so money wasn't added to that account frequently. They contacted me last June in regards to wanting to continue the membership since I haven't been there in awhile. I told them I'd like to transfer it to my husband for the the $30 fee. Then today (2/10/13) they took $10 first and then $100 in the same day. I called my bank to get the pending transactions to stop with my bank on the line. PF said based on the contract they "can take the money" anytime they want. I need to locate my contract now to see for myself. Nevertheless, my bank said they tried to take for several months (without notifying me) amounts of $30, 58, 10. I have to call some guy who has the codes who may or may fix this tomorrow. Most likely not since I there is past due account. BS, then they said they tried to call me but my phone was out of service. [censored] my phone works to include my cell phone.
I THINK THEY THOUGHT I WOULD NOT NOTICE SINCE THIS IS TAX SEASON AND MONIES WOULD BE SITTING THERE.
I am going to close my card and have a new one issued. Then pay any outstanding balance as to not affect my credit score. Then never do business with these people again. Basically, PF has left a bad taste in my mouth and I do not trust them!

Word of wise, never sign anything without reading it. When they sign you up, the additional fees are hand written in and explained to you, the print is significantly larger than the other print, making it much easier to revise and see what you are getting into. A copy is then handed to you so you don't forget any of the dates, and when the charges will be taken out.

Its broken down its 3 parts,
Enrollment fee, the 1 time start up fee.
Monthly fee, billed on or around the 17th of the month
Annual fee, billed 1 time a year, yours would have been on June 1st.

Since you signed up for the black card, there is a 12 month commitment where if you cancel before the 12 months are up, there is a $58 buyout fee. After 12 months are up, fee is waved.

The only notice they will ever send out is if your account is in bad standing, meaning you owe a balance. Which from there on points you in the right direction on how to solve it.

I agree with you about them not sending notices about additional fees. I wrote a complaint about the annual fee. You should check it out. Very interesting. This company needs to be shut down ASAP!
