Hello,
Date of incident: 02/25/2021
On 02/25/2021, I made my way over to LabCorp in Georgetown, DE. I had my order from my MD, Doctor Childers who has "Delaware Integrative Medicine" shortly down the hall. Dr. Childers treats me for Chronic Lyme Disease. His treatments are not covered by insurance as they are not considered "Traditional Medicine" Luckily, my parents help me with the costs and they also have financing programs available.
When I was called back, I met with a young Hispanic woman who appeared to be very nice, at first. When I handed her the order, she said "oh you're from over there? This is the first time any patient of his has brought over an order" I said yes, I don't know why they wouldn't bring their orders as the staff prints them out right there for us. The woman then proceeded to say "yeah, I guess because you all pay out of pocket, they think they can do whatever they want and treat us however they want" I told the woman, I don't agree nor understand as I am not like that, and always treat others with respect. She said "yeah I can tell you're not, but everyone else is so stuck up from over there" and proceeded to say "I don't care how much money you think you have, you ain't gonna treat me like that" I felt very attacked as I am a pay-out-of-pocket patient of Dr. Childers. I felt like she was attacking & discriminating against my socio-economic status right in front of my face. I am an HR Manager for a large company, and this is NOT someone that I would want working for me, let alone interacting with patients. Her conduct was very unprofessional and grossly inappropriate.
Additionally, when met with the phlebotomist, she too shared a similar attitude regarding me being a patient of Dr. Childers. This woman was a shorter African American Woman around 60 years old. I did not catch their names, hence for the detailed explanations so that you can identify them. She pointed at my arm where I had bruise from my IV treatments and proceeded to tell me that the nurses over at Dr. Childers don't know what they are doing and screwed up my vein. The reason I had a bruise was because I myself failed to hold pressure. Now, on 03/08/2021, I still have a HORRIBLE bruise where the LabCorp phlebotomist blew my vein. I can provide pictures if necessary. I believe that she did this intentionally as she made the comment about "them" (Dr. Childers' Nurses) bruising me. It was very ironic.
I have also talked to other patients in Dr. Childers practice who have been victims of both of these women treating them with disrespect because they are simply patients of Dr. Childers practice.
I felt obligated on behalf of my own experience, and the fellow patients to report this matter as it is completely unacceptable and unprofessional.
I will NEVER go to this LabCorp again.
Best regards,
Morgan Hewes
