Worst company ever. They are a scam. I booked a car rental for three days for 147$ and when I picked up the car they added all these fees which turned my car rental over $300. I booked through Expedia, but economy is smart, they says we don't charge you now, pay when you pick up the car, so that when you call Expedia to complain, they can't help you since the payment was done through economy. They are a scam and should be shut down.
Economy Rent a Car - Tolls Transporter [protected]
This is for Rental Reservation No. PEXPNOEF596B Car rented on 2/11/2020 and returned on 2/18/2020. I told the Rental Agent that we were driving to the Saint Augustine area using route I 59 and route 1. The agent told us that we will need the Tolls Transponder at $9.95 per day.
We did not use the Transponder since we did not pass trough any toll booth, which you can verify it by checking the record of the transponder
No. [protected].
The agent should be be knowledgeable that routes 59 and 1 do not require the use of a transponder. I should not be charged for the non use of the transponder and I'm requesting that Economy Rent a Car reimburse the full amount of this charge.
Hope you can assist me on this matter.
Thank you,
Paula Tovar Troya.

When I rented this car I said I did not need the insurance because Progressive Insurance covers my rental car agreements. However, when I received my online bill I notice the following charges - GLASS AND TIRE PROTECTION, $20.00, HANDLING INSURANCE FEE $39.50, AND LOSS OF USE $39.50. Please note, I did NOT have an accident while it was in my possession. My insurance covers all of the above and they were told that. However it was explained to me that since I refused to take a $1000 hold on my card in case of damage to my car, I had to pay the above. What a bunch of B.S. I will be reporting this to the Florida Insurance Commission. Basically this is a bait and switch tactic and the car we had was a piece of crap with dents and scratches. For my total $481 charge I could have gotten a far better car at Hertz.
I also see that on your web page NONE of the issues listed by customers have been resolved. What kind of customer service is this and you are not ECONOMY..

Economy Rent a Car - coerce into signing receipt of payment
When I originally book car rental, I have indicated that the driver was my husband. Even though I have a license, I do not drive. I paid this in full during the booking online. However, when I got to the rental agency in Fort Lauderdale, Fl. They coerce me for my driver's license and indicated because the credit card was under my name, I was the driver as well. We were at the rental agency for almost 2 hour arguing the point that I was not the driver. Carlos, the agent would not bend and I had to charge for the additional driver or I would be there for who knows how much longer arguing this point. With all the hours of flying and confronted with not knowing how much longer we'll be there, I relented to signing the receipt. There were other points of contentions that I would not get into. I was charged an additional $15.00 per day with service and tax fees involved.
We were on our 41st anniversary vacation, which did not start off well. Please look into this and advise if I can get a refund. My husband and I live on a fixed income and did not expect to spend this additional fee. Thanking you in advance.
P.S. I spoke to other rental companies (Alamo, Budget, Thrifty) and they had no problem on changing drivers, and that because I charged it, this would not change who the driver should be.

Economy Rent a Car - rental car experience - confirmation number pcarl03256ab
I was very disappointed with the service and product I received at Economy Rental Cars - Fort Lauderdale Airport - 111 S W 33rd Street from 12/25 - 12/30 2018. Upon arrival at the rental facility we experienced the following:
- there were two people working with one person ahead of me in line. It took one hour for me to get my car. Service was extremely slow and inefficient.
- Once I was waited on, I was asked for my insurance card. I have never been asked for my insurance card when renting a car and therefore did not have it with me (since it stays in my car at home). We searched frantically for the account number, found it, gave it to the gentlemen that was waiting on us and he didn't believe it was the correct number. We were unable to call the insurance company to verify since it was Christmas Day and they were closed. He did finally accept it.
- Since I (Lisa Kelley) initially booked the reservation I had to be the main driver. I asked if my husband could be the driver but they denied it. I could pay an additional fee to add a second driver - we did not. I don't understand that.
- When I was paying I was charged an additional fee of $7.95/day (not sure for what). This fee was not indicated when I booked the reservation. For 6 days, it was an additional $57.72. I still cannot figure out how they got to that amount.
- When we drove the car for the first time in the daylight on 12/29/18 we noticed splatters and smudges throughout the car including the interior roof and passenger side visor that we were pretty confident were blood. It was very disturbing and I called immediately to report it, they suggested I file this formal complaint. I have attached pictures.
Based on the above mentioned complaints we request a full or partial reimbursement of the rental car charges for $463.15. If this is not resolved in a timely manner we will submit a complaint to the Better Business Bureau. You can reach me at [protected]@yahoo.com or [protected] if you have any questions.

Economy Rent a Car - pressure put on customers to purchase florida's sunpass
I reserved a car from Economy Rentals for three days (8/10/18-8/13/18). Their customer service is lacking, but my biggest complaint is the pressure they put on the customer to purchase Florida's SunPass. I told the representative that I wasn't interested in purchasing the pass and that I would pay tolls, if necessary, when I came to a toll. I was told that if I didn't purchase the pass and I went through a toll booth and didn't have the pass, I would be fined any where from $25-$100 each time I went through a toll. Since this was my first time, I relented. I found out from friends that what I was told was wrong. I paid for a pass that I never used, but Economy wouldn't refund my money. That's not a good business practice. I would like a refund
Economy Rent a Car - extra charges
I rented a car through expedia and expedia sends you a paragraph with lots of writing init that states you must have your proof of insurance. I have rented cars all over the country as well as the world and have never had to show my insurance. They wanted $20 a day extra because I didn't bring my paperwork and it was Sunday so I could not get a hold of the person. I requested that we paid for Sunday and bring the paperwork in Monday. The manager kept repeating that because I booked through Expedia and not their website they couldn't do that.in addition to that he threatened us with a $25 a day fee if we didn't get the Sunpass. He kept repeating that to bed you booked through Expedia you should have booked through our website. Now I am charge double for my rental car. If it wasn't for Expedia I had never heard of your company. I already wrote Expedia and ask them to remove economy car rental from their website. This is unethical and unacceptable. I would like to be refunded the additional money that I was charged. All the other rental companies have you sign a waiver.
Economy Rent a Car - hidden fees
We recently booked our rental car and picked it up at the FLL location. While picking up the car, we were disappointed with the lack of transparency in the additional fees that we were given as well as the customer service we received. Upon checking in we were first told that there would be an extra $150 security deposit for the car as well as a $7 a day fee for using a debit card instead of a credit card. These fees more than doubled the cost of our original price. After that we were told that our destination required a sunpass and that cash was not accepted on the toll roads in Florida so we would have to pay an additional $10 a day for that. Later, after driving an additional hour out of our way to avoid the tolls, we learned this was untrue so we wasted a large amount of time and gas because of the attendants dishonesty or lack of knowldge. When we picked up our rental car we were given it with only 3/4 a tank a gas as well and the car didn't seem as if it was cleaned well either. Because of these additional fees and lack of customer service, we were disappointed with our first experience with economy. While we were initially excited about the great rates economy offered we now feel we were deceived and cunned into taking a lower rate and then once we were stuck taking the car hit with an enourmous amount of hidden fees.

Economy Rent a Car - car rental in fort lauderdale
Rented a car from Economy Car rental on line for Fort Lauderdale. I was charged $145 for the 6 days. When we arrived to pick up the car they told me there were more charges I had to pay including $15 per day because I did not have a copy of my car insurance. I have been renting cars for years and have NEVER been asked to provide the "declaration page" of my insurance.
When I returned the car I spoke with the Manager Mike Net. After a lengthy conversation he agreed to credit me the $15 per day plus tax, if I sent the declaration page when I returned home, which I did. I finally have a credit but it is far less that is should be. He posted a credit for $59 which certainly does not cover the 6 days plus tax I paid.
I have called an left messages to no avail. He seem to never been in when I call. Have emailed him as well but again no response.
This practice of quoting one price and charging another is so wrong. It cost us more than double of the original quote and over $300 more than I have paid for the car rental from other agencies from Fort Lauderdale. To say their practices are unprofessional in an under statement.
I would like at least the $90 plus tax that is owed to me .

Economy Rent a Car - extra cost added then we picked up the car and the condition of the car
We rented a car at the Fort Lauderdale location on line and when we arrived to pick up our car we heard people arguing about extra changes that were being charged . I processed to my rep and handed my rental agreement to the person behind the desk which showed the agreement and the cost of the rental. As the rep started to discuss the contract he inforformed me that a $27/day extra charge would be charged if you wanted insurance. I declined the insurance as I have through the past 20 years of renting as I have coverage through my home and credit card. The rep then stated that if I couldn't provide proof of insurance that he would have to charge me this rate( declining this insurance coverage was always enough through my 20 years of rental with othe companies). I then contacted my insurance company and they sent a email stating my coverage. The rep at first didn't want to accept this but then agreeed it was enough. We proceeded to finish with the rep before he gave me another elivated total far above the cost that my agreement stated. I asked why this was not the cost that my agreement stated and I did show that I have insurance coverage. He said that there is manditory $7/day charges ect that he has to charge as policy. After arguing with the guy over these charges I finally agreeded to pay so I could get out of there after a 1 hr ordeal and my family patiently waiting for me. We then proceeded to go to our car with the rep and go over the many dents and scuffs this car had. I noticed that the weather stripping on both passenger doors were hanging out and looked like crap. The rep stated that that is a comon problem with Nissan. After arguing for over an hr and now seeing this I was discusted with their policies there customer service and their product and would never rent from them again. I now have to drive around Florida for 10 days with weatherstripping hanging out the doors and am Embarrassed to drive this car

Economy Rent a Car - bait and switch
On Thursday, September 7, 2017 in preparation to evacuate Miami Beach prior to Hurricane Irma, we reserved a car from the website carrentals.com to be picked up at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport on Friday, September 8, 2017 and dropped-off on Wednesday, September 13, 2017.
We pre-paid eighty dollars ($80.00) for an Economy Rent a Car with a daily rate of $9.50 for 5 days and the estimated tax and fees.
When we arrived at the Economy customer services desk, we were informed of the following:
1. Economy would not accept the insurance that American Express provides and for which we pay a premium. Although, we were not given the option at the time, we found out later that we could have given $1000 deposit to waive the fee. Additional Fee: $11.99 per day.
2. Economy charges for an additional driver, even though it was my husband of 40 years. Additional Fee: $15.00 a day.
3. Economy charges an upgrade fee to Florida residents who drive more than 100 miles per day. Additional Fee: $10.00 per day. This fee is not mentioned until after the order is placed online and given the evacuation order, we exceeded that mileage limit.
The final bill was $317.45 for the “privilege” of driving the Economy car out of harm’s way (Irma). We feel that Economy took advantage of the existing state of emergency.
