On 06/03/22 I had a blowout on my truck on the highway, with no spare. I got the tire off and found a ride into the closest tire place we could find, which was discount tire on Jackson Rd in Ann arbor. The salesman (salesman #309), who was also the serviceman who changed the tire, sold me a tire closely matching the one that blew (size 265/75/16), and then mounted the tire on the rim for me. All well and good so far. But after he mounted it, he told me he couldn't let me take it out the door as he said the rim was too wide for that size tire. He claimed it was an 11 in rim and discount's policy said he couldn't let me have it. He said I had to buy a wider tire, the next size up being 285/75/16. The problem of course was that this was also a taller tire by over an inch, which is not a good idea, especially on a 4 wheel drive. I told him I would sign an affidavit relieving them of any responsibility if they just let me take the tire and get a 2my truck off the highway. Nope, I ended up having to pay out $300 for a wrong size tire, just so I could get my truck off the road. After I got home I decided I better buy all new wheels so I never had to worry about having his happen again. So I found an purchased 4 ten inch aluminum wheels (which is in the ideal range of 9.5 to 10 in. for 265 tires) for $375. So first thing monday morning I went to Meekoff Tire in Jackson to hopefully get all of the rims switched and a correct size tire for the odd one. The tech at Meekoff said that the guy at discount was nuts, and they'd be glad to either switch the rims or just mount a 265 back on the same rim it used to be on. Problem was, they didn't have a 265/75/16 tire in stock, so it was pointless to do any of it right then. But he put a call in to a buddy who worked at another tire store, who said he'd be more than happy to mount a 265 back on the original rim. But before that I had found a 3rd tire store who said they would switch all the rims OR mount the same size tire back on the original rim. Okay, so far I'm still thinking it's all just a difference in store policy, and discount was entitled to protect themselves if they didn't think it was mounting that tire on that rim. And to hopefully prevent any of this ever recurring, I still wanted to switch the rims. The bummer there was they said I needed different lug nuts for those aluminum wheels, and they didn't have them. So we were back to just putting the right size tire on that old rim for the time being, so that I wasn't driving around with one odd size tire causing problems for my differential. Here's the kicker though, it turned out the wheels that I had already were only 10in, NOT 11 in wheels! They have a false bead on them for aesthetics, which can make them look like an 11 in wheel to someone who doesn't know better, BUT THE TECH/SALESMAN AT DISCOUNT TIRE SHOULD NOT BE IN THAT GROUP! So in the end, I spent $300 for a wrong size tire I never needed, $375 for rims I also didn't need, plus went through all that added time and aggravation, all because I trusted that the tire expert at Discount Tire knew what the hell he was talking about!
Desired outcome: At the absolute very least I would like them to buy back the damn $300 wrong sized tire they forced me to buy that now has about 20 miles on it, because of their incompetent salesman/tech!
