We entered into a contract with American Standard for the installation of a new shower on June 30, 2023. The installers did not put anything to support the base of the shower so every time we stepped into the shower there were creaking noises. The walls of the shower in various places were smeared with caulk as a result of the installers touching them and then not bothering to clean the walls up. We took care of that problem. The doors did not move easily. Cleanup of the project left a lot to be desired.
When a serviceman came out after a long delay, he sprayed several cans of foam insulation beneath the base of the shower. This was a good idea except too much was sprayed and as the foam expanded it caused cracks in the front side of the base. The doors were moving easily when the serviceman left, but as a result of the expansion of the foam which occurred after he left, that did not last for long. The doors fit at the top but had a wide gap at the bottom (enough to allow some water to escape to the bathroom floor). One of the doors was very difficult to open and shut.
A new base was needed and we let the company know what had happened. It is now near the end of October and we have not had a resolution to the problem. We have called the company numerous times and have been assured that they would check on progress being made toward resolution of our project, but nothing has happened. It has been almost four months since we signed the contract. We would not recommend American Standard to anyone. The company has not lived up to its obligations under the contract and has shown little interest in communicating with us. It seems to have little desire to make its customers happy! If you do business with the company, we would recommend that as little as possible be paid the company until you are absolutely satisfied. It seems to us that since the company has our money it has little interest in doing anything for us.
Claimed loss: We paid $13,020 and still do not have a workable shower after almost four months. The contract states that defective work will be inspected by the Contractor and remedial work will be performed at no cost to the Buyer."
Desired outcome: We would like to be called by the company requesting a time in the next week or two to come and correct the problem with the shower base and the shower doors.
American Standard - Tub to shower conversion
We have been contracted with American Standard since December 1, 2020, to convert our tub/shower to a walk-in shower. The salesperson told us the work should be done by mid-January. They have postponed our work four times and put us at the end of the queue to wait for another opening. Among the excuses were permitting problems, damaged pieces, inability to finish another job on time, and a contractor with a cracked tooth. The regional installation manager will not guarantee that we will not have to pay a 15% fee for cancelling, so we feel we have no alternatives but to wait for them to show up.
Desired outcome: Immediate installation or cancelation with no fee.
we ordered a walk-in shower as well in may. our sales person said it would be installed in September. We put 2K down and unsatisfied of the time delay we called and tried to cancel. Rep at American Standard took 1K off the bill and said it would be installed in 2 weeks, that was in June. We called back and they told us it would be installed in two weeks. It's now the end of August, no walk in shower and have not heard from them. This was a verbal contract they broke 2 times. We plan on calling AGAIN on Monday if we have no resolution, we will be contacting our lawyer.
We are inn the same boat. We have been told that the install team assigned to our job no longer works for the company and that a new team must be trained and certified. Looks like their 2-3 day install might take years instead of days.
