AAMCO Transmissions - Customer service/repair time

My husband's car has been in the shop at AAMCO since MARCH. He needed transmission repairs. He already had a good idea of what was wrong. The female manager assured him this was something they could do. They called us maybe once on their own to give an update on the car. Otherwise, he was having to call them all the time to get an update as to what was taking so long. At first, they said they couldn't get the parts. My husband offered to get the parts himself. Eventually, they said the mechanic didn't want to do the repairs on this particular transmission. This was after 3 weeks of excuses as to why they were not yet working on it. My husband took the transmission itself somewhere else for repairs. It took them a couple weeks to start on it, but they kept him updated. Once they got to his car, it took them a week to get parts and repair the transmission. This was a $1700 repair to this mechanic. When my husband picked up the transmission from AAMCO, he told them that he would bring it back for them to reinstall the transmission. The manager told him that the normal price just for taking out and reinstalling the transmission was $500 but for our inconvenience, she would do $250 for us. The transmission has been back at AAMCO since early this month. They have again been giving excuses as to why the car is not done yet. She says they are shorthanded. But every time we call we are given a new date. Now she says it is going to cost $865. She denies that she ever gave him that original price. She told him she would only charge $650. We are out a lot of money not only on the repairs from the other mechanic, rental cars, and flights (because my husband works out of town). I called to complain to the manager. I explained that we are a military family, that the amount of time we have been without our car is ridiculous and we need a lower price. She said that being in a military family does not make us special. Again, our car is still not finished which is crazy enough as it is. The lack of communication, the lying, and the dishonesty have been ridiculous. $650 for doing literally nothing but taking it out and reinstalling it. They made none of the repairs.

Desired outcome: I would like an apology and a more significant discount. Dragging out our repairs cost us so much more money in rental cars and flights. We could have taken the car somewhere else if they had been honest from the beginning.

To update on this situation. They finally installed the transmission. When my husband picked it up though, the clutch was completely gone. My husband initially thought that maybe they test-drove the car and ruined the clutch, but she said they didn't drive it. Of course, he didn't remember the mileage so there's no way to verify that. Her paperwork showed they did not drive the car. We had the car at the Subaru dealership less than an hour before dropping it off at AAMCO where they did a test drive and did full diagnostics and there was no clutch issue. The manager informed us a few days later that she was not going to admit fault but that they would take care of the clutch seeing as how we were able to drive the car to their shop and unable to drive it home. When my husband picked up the car last week, the tech told him that the car was going to be hard to shift due to having new synchros in the transmission. This should not have been the case and it was indeed very hard to shift. The very next day the clutch went out again. He took it to another mechanic who confirmed that AAMCO messed up the install. The release bearing blew out and came off the pressure plate causing the slave and master cylinder to fail. Ruined new clutch they installed. Flywheel needs to be completely replaced due to being resurfaced with an angle grinder. Grand total =$3973.35 after we just paid AAMCO all that money for the shotty work they finally decided to do. The manager at AAMCO claims they didn't touch the flywheel and that they test drove the car and it was fine when we left the day before. The car was not fine. And interesting that now they test drive cars but the mileage on the paperwork still hasn't changed. AAMCO needs to do the right thing and take care of these repairs.

AAMCO Transmissions - Inferior parts (3) times pathetic workmanship, disgusting, nasty and filthy employees. And a store that was filthy inside and out.

I took my Nissian truck in for a tune up. They did it. I also had the vehicle towed in to have the shifter cable replaced in April. They replaced it, but not with dealer parts. The cable broke again in Dallas and left my family and I stranded. I limped the truck home, took it back to the dealer. They said they would fix it under warranty. They ordered another part, and it was broke when it was delivered. They ordered the part again, the same cheap junk part as the other two times. They fixed the cable, called me and said the truck was completed. I went, the truck was covered in grease and dirt, inside and out. There were parts, and screws, and gaskets and other parts laying in the seat and floorboard. I had to go back inside, complain and they pulled the truck around back and finished the job.

A week later, the cable broke again, I called AAmco and they gave me a bunch of excuses and lies and an attitude and rude to boot. I am now filing a law suite against AAMCo and the local dealer for a refund, as I had to have the truck fixed somewhere else.

These people are disgusting, nasty, filthy, unprofessional and rude.

Desired outcome: refund for shifter cable and labor.

three trips to the filthy store in San Marcos, Texas. Their work is pathetic, they used junk parts and my truck is still broken after three trips and being stranded three times. This place is disgusting and pathetic.
