Don't bother signing up a membership at this place. ALL the workers are rude, even "elitest" I would say. They think they're better than their clients and treat them that way.
From the entrance, any of the male trainers or representatives will treat you like you're lesser than them. If you're a newbie, don't sign up with the trainer. I've worked and trained with Gold's Gym trainers before, and they're actually taught to make their clients feel like they're under control and NEED their services. For example, I can't tell you how many times I'll go into the gym and see the trainers making overweight people do exercises that will not benefit them; they'd rather humiliate them or make them feel bad. They'll have them playing on the yoga exercise balls or do balancing exercises that do nothing for calorie burning or muscle gain. I've been a personal trainer for years, and these people are out to make sure you keep signing personal training services with them, so they want you to feel helpless with exercises. One poor overweight woman was forced to do push-ups on gymnastic rings...an exercise that's meant for intermediate to advanced people. Rarely will you see the trainers at this gym really care for the clients skill level, and rarely will you see them train the people how to use the machines - they want you to keep scheduling personal training. Ask anyone who goes to this gold's gym and ask them to watch how the trainers treat their clients - I assure you they'll notice how helpless the clients is and how bored the personal trainer is. The only personal trainer I've seen there who gives some effort is Ben; I believe he teaches kick-boxing. I've seen him do some positive work, but for the most part, having a membership here isn't worth it just for him.
Another time, I brought in a friend to train with. Throughout our day I was telling him what exercises to do, and their trainers didn't like it. They stopped us at the front door before we left and asked if I was training him. This was the [censored]bag's response, "He can't personally train you here, it's not allowed...HOWEVER, we have our own personal trainers that can help you out." Really ###?! I've been going to that gym for YEARS, long before when it was a Lifestyles 2000, and this muscle-headed jerk was bothering my 17-yr old friend that I was helping him out. And this was just on the first day. I'd understand it if I was bringing in other clients, or training my friend everyday, but I wasn't. Just helping a friend to getting a good start. No way in hell was I going to allow a personal trainer to taint him.
Their salesmen are the worst. They would put car salesmen to shame. If they know your contract is going to expire or they know you're on month-to-month, prepare for them to hassle you, every day. One time I brought my girlfriend in to see if she'd like it. She obviously didn't like the rude service, but lo and behold, the next day their salesmen called her...TWICE in one day. I've been going to this Gold's Gym for years just because it's in my neighborhood and 24 Hour Fitness is too expensive, yet they keep treating me like I'm nobody when I was there everyday training. I was on month-to-month for awhile because I wasn't sure if work was going to have me move, so the same salesman kept bothering me everyday.
I LOVED going to the gold's gym on Van Winkle because of its amenities like the hot tube, pool, theater, etc. But I've officially canceled my membership JUST BECAUSE OF THIS PLACE. You're better off going to another gym or save money to make your own gym.
