usaa insurance passes the buck...
A neighbor backed into my car causing nearly 2k worth of damage. Day of the incident we called in and USAA accepted responsiblilty for claim. The representative said that within 72 business hours an appraiser would be out to see the car and a check would be cut. (This was on a Friday. So sometime before Wednesday night was the expectation that was set.) Wednesday night came and I called in. I was told that the Appraiser has four days to come out and look at the car. "We usually send someone out within one or two days but they have four days." The Appraiser comes out on day four, Thursday, and gives me a written estimate. I call back into the customer care line to see when I can get the car into the shop because the Appraiser didn't cut a check. The representative said the data from the Appraiser would be submitted by Friday morning. Friday evening I call in to check the status on the claim. The representative says that the adjuster needs to review the data submitted by the Appraiser. I was told I would be contacted on Monday.
monday comes and goes. Fast forward to Friday, this is two weeks after the incident, I call back in and now the story is that USAA is not responsible for the claim. The driver of the other car had non-owners insurance (USAA) and USAA states that I have to go through the insurance that is on the vehicle that hit me. So here I am two weeks after my car was backed into ( I just got plates on the car last Thursday.) and am told that I am sol and have to contact the person who backed into my car to get the other insurance information. Problem is the person who was driving the car that hit mine is in Germany. I guess I will have to go through my insurance and pay a deductible and have higher rates. Thanks a lot USAA.

false advertising
USAA advertise for "millitary" family, but they don't want to insure people who travels to Iraq and Parkistan.
They wasted your time on lengthy paperworks, medical(even I just got a whole body checkup from my family doctor). After another 6 weeks, finally, they wanted your "travel information". Which millitary doesn't go to Iraq? Then they denied you at this last minute when "found out" that you will be travelling.
Company like this is false advertising, they want your money, ONLY. I suggest them remove that title "millitary" off their title, don't fool people!

I am utterly disgusted with USAA Mortgage Services. When I call for a status on my VA refinance, my processor barely can form a sentence in English and is also very rude. She will never return a call either. On 1 loan, this is my 4th processor assigned! None of them could speak very good english neither were they kind. Nothing against Mexican American people- however, in business, you need bright, articulate, knowledgeable staff that communicate kindly and effectively. I give up AND I also will be contacting Clark Howard to tell him my disgust! USAA Mortgage is based in San Antonio. I did some checking around and found that it is the policy of USAA Mortgage to hire and promote Mexican Americans over caucasian. Who gets hurt the blatent favortism like this? It is the Veteran! I am trying to warn everyone I can to stay away from them! In the name of "political correctness" they are hurting the customer and I am disgusted. Hmmm is it a coincidence that the CEO is a Mexican American as well? Joe Robles USAA Mortgage Services is Toxic and should be avoided.
rate increase
I have been insured by USAA Insurance for over 40 years with no accidents and no tickets of any kind. USAA just increased my vehicle insurance premium by 47% effective 1/1/2010. Their explanation is that they have decided to recalculate California premiums on the basis of their overall California loss experience – and not just on the drivers record or other...

We have had nothing but trouble from the time we first took out our mortgage with USAA. They immediately transferred servicing to PHH. The first year our payment was the amount we signed on for. After the first year it shot up 300 dollars a month and it is a fixed VA Loan. We struggled to make the payments which is not what we signed on for either way we used everything in our savings and my husbands retirement to keep the loan current. They have continuously messed up our escrow account and cannot seem to get it right. After years of struggling to make the new higher payment amount we notified them we were expecting to not be able to make our payments in the coming months. We were told to submit a loss mitigation packet...Three months later we contact them and are told they will have a work out plan for us in three weeks. We contacted them again after receiving a letter saying "We cannot help you because your loan is not current(it was current) but then in the next sentence the letter says "The reason we cannot help you is that your loan is Current". The rep @ the company said they couldn't help anyone with a VA mortgage so I contacted a VA housing counselor who stated this was a flat out lie and that PHH receives a stipend for working out Va Loans. We have now missed our first payment and called and were told they couldn't help us till we submitted another packet and were 2 payments behind. The lady went on to say that there is nothing they can do anyways because it is a VA Loan and they cannot help us...I told her I knew this to be a lie and she got rude with me and hung up on me. Worse Company EVER!

terrible servicing
I mortgaged my current home with USAA in 2006 seeing how their customer service is outstanding. Little did I know that they would sell my loan off to US Bank. US Bank was one thing after the other in regards to mishaps. They screwed up my escrow account and applied payment to my loan that wasn't for me. I called to investigate how I could have gained a payment they insisted that this was correct. No, a customer called raising the the red flag himself did not constitute further investigation according to US Bank. This misapplied payment caught up with me almost a year later and thank God I kept this payment in savings thinking that they had royally screwed up and were about to bend me over because of it. When I decided to refinance this year USAA said I didn't qualify because of debt to income ratio. My wife is staying home with our daughter to raise her and just my income looks shady on paper I suppose. The ultimate result is to lower my payment which makes me less of a risk? Anyhow, blessing in disguise because my local bank that gave me my first mortgage was glad to take my business and KEEP my money rather than selling it off to one of the worst banks that I was forced to do business with, US Bank. BEWARE of US Bank.

US Bank knows nothing about service. When their employees do not wish to answer your question, they disconnect you.
Cannot wait to refinance my mortgage elsewhere.
rv loan
Recently I joined USAA, big mistake! I thought I would give them a try and refinance our motorhome with them. The rep took the application, submitted it and all was well, right? Well, 2 days later I had not heard anything so I called them. They indicated the underwriter needs additional information; w-2's, tax returns and paystubs. no problem, faxed them right over, still no response after 2 days. So I called again, they indicated they needed more documents so I sent this information to them as well.
After 6 days, 8 hours of faxing, telephone calls and speaking with over 10 different people, they decide to decline the application because of incorrect information in our application, which conflicted with our documents. My wife started a new job in Jan 2009, the rep who took the application submitted she worked their for 2 years, the underwriter caught this and declined the app.
I was extremely dissappointed in this as you could imagine! This error on their part should have been caught on day 1 not 6 days later and 8 hours of my time and effort...this is the worst business practice I have ever experienced in a fiancial institution and will certainly share with everyone I know! I asked for a copy of the application adn they denied my request, I also asked to be removed from the membership and they denied this as well...so what they are saying is once you join you cannot "un-join"? Needless to say, I re-financed the motor home with a more professional and and organized institution!
USAA is very unorganized!

mortgage - refi
To say that I have been disappointed by USAA in handling my refi would be a gross understatement. I have been with USAA for more than 20 years - and have always been impressed with their customer service. So much in fact, we have our checking/savings and car/home/life insurances with them.
But - because of their poor service, incorrect information, and general inepitude - we will be moving all of our accounts. If you are a USAA member and are in need of a mortgage - save yourself the grief - GO ElSE WHERE!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
USAA is not what it use to be! I truly don't believe the CEO down to customer service does not care anymore.
I wish I would have read these complaints before I went with USAA for mortgage re-fi. It has been the worse experience I have ever had with any organization. I have been a member for 43 years and I am about to change all of my accounts and money over to another bank. I felt that I was being treated like a criminal and I was the one who caused the banking crisis. I have been billed for items that I had already paid for and asked for information that they refused to take my word for. Since this organization has gone public for everyone to join, the service and quality has gone to hell. They have expanded to the point where they cannot hire enought quality people to handle customers in a respectful manner. I am sorry I have recommended USAA to friends. It used to be a great organization.
Ditto I could not agree more
not sure about usaa... denied hail damage
I'm considering leaving USAA after 18 years with them for auto, some renters and home owners for the last 7 years. They denied our roof had hail damage, after sending out their own inspector. I should have pushed it more and gotten our own inpsection done, but I was trusting USAA. It turns out that everyone in our neighborhood who has replaced their roofs in the last couple years has had it paid through their insurance. Kind of funny how ours is the only one that wasn't caused by the storm... I know that they're crappy roofs that didn't have much life left in them, but everyone else is getting theirs fully paid for, except for small deductibles (not 2% and they didn't figure out how much life was left in them...) I'm a little irritated b/c we paid for our own roof (8K) and everyone else is getting theirs for free! And from reading things on here, I'm now worried about how much we would get if we were broken into or had a fire. I always assumed it would be the amount listed on our policies (for replacement value and amount of personal property), but it sounds like you have to pay for the amount they tell you to pay for, but then you have to prove it. Grrr!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
There are so many things that are taken in to consideration when conducting an inspection for hail damage. What was the storm direction, is there collateral damage (to gutters, siding, soft metals, window screens, fins on an a/c unit, etc), what is the condition of the roof, are there trees providing shelter, etc? Many roofs do sustain minor hail damage and are considered repairable. Imagine you have a dent in your bumper. Would you expect your insurance company to total your car? Keep in mind that many carriers handle claims over the phone & don't inspect the house. They just tell their customer to get 3 estimates from roofers which indicate the cause of loss (hail in your instance). They usually just settle on the middle of the road estimate without inspecting it. And what roofer is going to say there is no damage or a roof can get fixed? They have a financial interest in replacing the entire roof...it's their bread & butter. Staff adjusters at insurance companies receive their paycheck whether they pay a claim or not. So, there is no financial motive there to not pay for a claim. Also, it is much, much easier to find damage and replace the roof vs. allowing for repairs or the loss is below the deductible and having to deal with an irate customer. Trust me, if an adjuster can find enough legitimate, honest hail damage, they will pay for the roof to be replaced. Unfortunately, insurance does not pay for things because they are old, worn out, reached the end of their intended life span, etc. Wear & tear, maintenance, deterioration, etc are standard, industry wide exclusions. So, it's not just a USAA thing.
1qaz@WSX I hope you are still checking this site. I would like to know how it worked out. I am having the same issue with USAA and I have been with them for over 20 years. I am definitely leaving them. Every house around me had hail damage. I can't understand how my house was spared. My roofer was appalled. I am disgusted. What else can be done?
Major hail storm in Bellbrook Ohio a few weeks ago. USAA told me"good news, you only have minor damage." Good news for them, but as I just had this roof put on last November I want a new roof... like everyone else on the block. The tennis-ball size hail trashed every gutter and down spout (plus 2 of my cars), but some how miraculously spared the roof. Their initial quote would not have covered the gutters. They are coming back out here to look at it again and suggested I have my roofer here to help explain/show them the damage. Not sure if the roofer will be free to accommodate, but I refuse to accept this non-sense from USAA. We'll see in the coming days/weeks how much trust I have in this company.
I'm going with the same. And leaving them after having been customer for over 28 years. Having all of our family members leave them too. The are not to be trusted, not to be thought of as knowledgeable or accurate, and certainly not to be known for having great customer service response. Sure they might answer the phone within minutes but keep at trying to get and answer and see if you ever get the same one or one at all.
I beg to differ Santa68. I'm presently going through the exact same issue with USAA. I've had two adjusters in the past year tell me that I have hail and wind damage, but USAA will not cover the replacement of my roof. USAA sent out their own adjuster, who did no more than climb to the edge of my roof and look at a small section. He claimed that my 13 year old homes roof was damaged due to normal wear-and-tear. There's no way that this is true, especially since I've had the two other adjusters (one adjuster actually works regularly with USAA) state that hail and wind damage is obvious. The first adjuster actually had me watch while he grab a 5 feet section of my shingles and lifted it off my roof, stating that wind damage had snapped my shingles in half all over the top of my house. I'm still fighting this issue with USAA and hopefully they'll do the right thing and replace my roof.
It sounds like they're saying you didn't have enough damage to warrant a replacement...that's different then refusing to pay the claim. Get a copy of the adjuster's report and find out why he/she denied the claim, if that's the case. And trust me, if USAA denied it then so would another company...they're the most honest people out there.
horrible company
I agree with all of you! I do not see how this company is still allowed to practice anything! On 10-19-09 a elderly woman tboned my husband in a intersection, she then left the secene of the accident and then was found two hours later and was still not aware that she had a accident. She is insured by USAA. We have been contacting them for four days now and they will not return a phone call...the adjuster became angry because I was complaining at her inability to do her job and then said..."Well maybe I should just find your husband neglegant". They have done nothing! We got the police reoport and sent it to them and it plainly states that she entered into the intersection against a red light, my husband swirved to avoid the accident and was unsucessful and that she left the scene of the accident and was found two hours later and was still unaware she had a accident. Thats exactly what the police report states! No way to look around that.
This woman was not punished for hit and run because quote "She's old". Her family stated to the officer that due to her unstability, her medication and her medical conditions...that any number of these things could have contributed to the accident. The officer is even suggesting that she go up for review to even hold a NC DL. USAA is still dragging thier feet. My husband was injured in the accident and has medical bills and time lost from work. The vehicle that the old woman hit was the only way we have to haul around our three small children not to mention all three of thier carseats were in this vehicle. On top of that we are supposed to be moved out of our current home into a new home by next weekend. We have left NUMBEROUS messages with the adjustor...and they WILL NOT call anyone back. And when you get upset because they will not do thier job they will just hang up on you...or like I said above threaten you.
Now we have Geico which is a great insurance company...they started right away to deal with the claim...and did their investigation and closed it in two and a half days. There is no reason USAA can not do the same thing. We are waiting for them to call today by 5pm to tell us they are excepting liability and going to take of the things that need to be taken care of or we are getting a lawyer.
I feel sorry for those in the future who have to deal with this company. I think someone should do something...but no matter how many times you call to complain still nothing is done. What are we supposed to do?

currently, my husband is trying to close on a house---using USAA as the lender---WHAT A BAD CHOICE! Things started off great---completed the application on line. Had the $50.00 deducted from his checking account for the application processing. Well, after he received the loan approval letter---things went from sugar to SH-T. The processor has only been in touch with him twice. He has called her numerous times---only for her not to return her call. The realtor has made numerous attempts to contact the processor---unsuccessful--till this day. Now--this process started on 23 February 2010 and it is 12 April 2010---the closing date is suppose to be 16 April 2010. Notice I said "Suppose"---my husband gets a call today---4 days before final closing and is told he no longer qualifies for the loan unless he pays off one of his debts at the tune of $5, 000. Now, my husband does have the finances to pay it off, but why do they wait until 4 days before closing to tell him this. This has been a real bad experience dealing with USAA buying his first home. I will never recommend USAA to anyone for a home loan. The processor was the worse---very limited communication--task never updated on the message board! By all means if you can please use a different bank for a home loan! Did I mention---my family has been with this bank for over 17 years.
If I were in your shoes I would make a D.O.I claim. They will take you very serious at that point. VERY serious!
unreasonable
We are trying to buy a home being sold as a short sale. USAA holds the second mortgage. They had signed off on everything and then the appraisal came back lower than the selling price. The first mortgage signed off on the new price but USAA is refusing even though the amount they are getting from the sale has no changed one cent. We found this out last Friday. We have been trying to get an answer and were told on Wed. that it would have to go to a committee that meets on Thurs. The committee met and made a decision however no one could return the sellers agents calls about what decision was made. The agent asked to speak with a supervisor and was told she would receive a call on Fri. They called on Friday and informed the sellers agent that they would sign but wanted an addition $22, 000 from the seller or they would revoke his benefits. We are no closer to an answer and need to close by Spt. 23rd.
They have been nothing but difficult to deal with. They are suppose to support military families and they are now trying to screw the seller who is military and forced to relocate. My husband is also former military and I find this to be completely dispicable. This family is serving our country. They did not intend for this to happen and have no choice in the matter.
I would never do business with or recommend this company to anyone!

owing money
USAA claims i owe them money when i do not. I had a checking with them and now they are saying i owe $500 to them. I am free and clear of them. I dont understand why all of a sudden a "good" company would do this.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
They are a horrendous bank. They used to be good until they implemented all this "Pending" charges crap. Now, you look at your account, and it never went negative, but you get NSF fees. There are systems make it impossible to accurately track your spending and I'm taking my services to do a different bank and will recommend everyone I know to stear clear of these shady bankers.
fraudulent advertising
This is the 3rd and last time I will risk my life and health as a so-called "insured" motorist with the promised, advertised and paid-for med pay allowance of $100, 000 that USAA never intends to pay. All 3 times, I was not at fault for any of the accident injuries I sustained. In every case, I was rear-ended by others who broke the law by not assuring clear distance, and in one case I was even sitting at a dead stop at a red light. In every case, USAA auto insurance does nothing to defend or support its own insured customers, and instead, will sue them or go against them in court if necessary to avoid paying the promised and paid-for med pay or any amount of it that the injured person needs to pay their medical bills that result from getting in an accident, even when it is through no fault of their own. USAA HIRES MEDICAL DOCTORS AND LAWYERS TO WORK AGAINST THEIR OWN INSURED CUSTOMERS TO MAKE SURE THEY WILL NOT PAY MEDICAL BILLS WHEN THEY ARE INJURED, EVEN WHEN IT IS THROUGH NO FAULT OF THEIR and EVEN WHEN THEY ARE REARENDED IN ACCIDENT SITUATIONS THAT ARE CLEARLY THE RESPONSIBILITY OF ANOTHER DRIVER! In today's PROFIT DRIVEN CORPORATE WORLD, the consumer of USAA AUTO INSURANCE CLEARLY HAS NO RIGHTS. You can fight in legal battles until you are old, but the bottom line is, if you get in an accident, you will end up having to pay nearly all of the medical bills (WHICH ARE ASTRONOMICAL SINCE THE HOSPITALS CHARGE MORE FOR ACCIDENT RELATED MEDICAL EXPENSES) yourself if you have USAA as your auto insurance. Therefore, USAA's advertising that their customers "can enjoy the ride as they are covered" is clearly a case of false advertising...Unfortunately, one's regular medical insurance, if one is lucky enough to have it, will also refuse to pay for any accident related injury medical claims. Therefore, consumerS ARE paying for almost nothing, getting ripped off royally in terms of insurance premiums, and then losing their shirts whenever they are unlucky enough to be in an auto accident. Why do they get away with this? Because the big corporations have all the power, not the people.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I have USAA Auto insurance. When I had my accident in June 2011 I broke my knee cap. They covered all of my medical bills. I live in Colorado and in this state you have to turn down medical payments in writing or it is included in your insurance. Did you have medical coverage? I was not at fault in my accident and if I hadn't had medical coverage, I would have been covered by the at fault driver's insurance. Why didn't you make a claim against the other driver's insurance company or sue them for your medical expenses?
Why dont you make a DOI complaint if you are so upset. If they did something illegal you will win.
frozen account
USAA from my account and locked me out of my online access on 7/28/09 and nobody tells me why? On 7/30/09 after calling for serval times they tell me because I had supicious activity on my checking account. I moved over 100k and then withdrew it and the deposit only 40k, to my brokage account. Made 3 trades and then when I am getting ready to sell my stocks my account is frozen. They stated I need ID for me and my wife. Faxed them on 7/28/09 was told it would take 24 to 48 hours to verify this and my account would be open. Well after 48 hours my accounts was locked, and then I was told I would be assingned to a fraud investigator within 5 business days. I work at a job that requires much attention and have 40k frozen makes me parorniod. Nobody can tell me anything execpt to wait and somebody will contact you.

rhomeowners insurance refund
I cancelled prior to renewal of a homeowners insurance policy I had with USAA. They promised to cancel it and refund the monies to me within 10 days. It has been over 3 weeks, multiple phone calls and still no refund. Now I find out they never cancelled it and now I will have to take them to small claims court to get my refund. This the second time they have done this. Originally they charged me for 4 days of a car insurance policy that I didn't want. I originally asked for a quote and this is how they generate revenue. They hope that you just give up..Do not do business with USAA.

usaa claims fraud - falsifying documentation to the state
On April 5, 2004, A USAA "insured" motorist backed into my classic car. She backed into it hard enough to push my stationary vehicle several feet sideways.
USAA had an insurance adjuster look at the car, and claimed it was a total loss. I objected to this, provided USAA demonstration of the value of the vehicle and that this value exceeded the cost of repairs, even at their adjuster's highly inflated rates.
USAA responded to this with a letter stating that their final offer on the vehicle was less than half of the cheap estimate on repairs, and that if I failed to deliver the vehicle and title to them within 14 days, they would start charging me a storage fee, even though I was in possession of the vehicle and not storing it. They stated that my failing to deliver the vehicle to USAA in the allotted time, that I was agreeing to these terms.
It took two calls from my attorney to get USAA to agree to pay repairs or replacement value on the vehicle (repairs were cheaper). USAA then sent a check marked "full and final on all claims" for less than than the agreed amount.
It then took three letters, the final of which was a threat to take their uninsured client to court before a corrected payment was sent.
In all of this, USAA had agreed that the vehicle was not a "total loss." However, after the final check was mailed, USAA did file a "total loss" agains the vehicle with the state. I discovered this in January of 2009.
It took a month of phone calls to USAA to finally get them to agree to correct this "oversight." They said they would send me a copy of the letter they sent to the Montana Department of Motor Vehicles. It took several more calls to USAA to confirm that they had sent the letter, and then it was a fight to get a copy, but I finally did.
I have checked again the the DMV, and have discovered that not only did the DMV never receive the letter from USAA, they have no record of the call USAA supposedly placed to them on February 23.
This issue still has not been resolved, and USAA seems to have no interest in this. This is how USAA demonstrates their "values of service, loyalty, honesty, integrity — and doing the right thing because it is the right thing to do."
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
USAA violates Virginia laws and engages in unfair claim settlement practices: Go to this website (http://www.usaa-claims.com )where you can read letters containing lies from USAA claims representatives and listen to voicemail messages from USAA claims representatives that also contain lies.
diamond replacement
I have a personal property insurance policy on my engagement ring. It was appraised and is insured with USAA for $9830. I have been paying premiums on this policy for 10-years. Recently, I chipped the ring and brought it back to the jeweler from whom it was purchased. They verified the chip and so I contacted USAA. I faxed them the AGS certification for the diamond which provided all the specifications for the diamond. They said that they would replace my diamond for $5300! I asked them to show me the AGS documentation for this new replacement diamond and they could not or would not. They said that I would need to mail my diamond to their lab for further verification. Are they kidding? The AGS document is a certified document. What more do they require, other than to swindle me out of my premiums on a $9830 diamond and replace it with a lesser valued stone! IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT PERSONAL PROPERTY INSURANCE WITH USAA PLEASE DON'T! USAA is ripping off it's members.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
So you are saying that your jeweler is the only one who is actually honest? We all know the appraisals we get at purchase are inflated at least 200%. So yes your jeweler will tell you a higher price then the insurance company that can actually replace it for the real price. stop believing your jeweler, they work off commission.

worst insurance company ever
A little less than a year ago, July 21, 2008 to be exact, our home burned down due to what the fire department claimed as a faulty stove. My husband contacted USAA not long after the fire to report the claim on our insurance. Since then our fight has just been a down hill spiral. We had 3 different adjusters at first, 2 of which were extremely helpful and basically felt our pain of losing everything. The other one, the cause and casualty adjuster could not have been worse. He looked at me and my husband like we were rats. About a month after the house burned down we got a call from our first adjuster telling us that the insurance would be paid out and we would be getting a check within a week. The next day he called to let us know that the check would have to wait as I had not given my statement to the cause and casualty adjuster to date. A week later, I gave my statement only to hear that it could be 4-6 weeks before everything was processed again. 2 months went by and we hadn't heard a word from the insurance company, by this time, we've bought new furniture and settled into a rental house, but now we have, not only our old bills but new rent and furniture bills as well. Our bills started piling up. We got behind on our rent, due to the insurance not paying on time and eventually had to move out of this house because the landlord could not wait any longer on them. We moved into a rinky dink duplex and lived there for a month while having the same problems, the insurance would not pay out. By this time, 5 1/2 months have passed and we have barely seen a dime from the insurance company and we have yet to hear a word from them. Christmas was coming up and my husband and I were to the point of filing bankruptcy due to the fact that we could not make ends meet because of all the bills piling up. We had to take out cash advances to buy our son anything for Christmas. And all this time, we're still fighting with the insurance company. One day we'd hear that it was the stove's fault, they were going to sue GE for a faulty stove, the next we'd hear that they had never said that and that they would continue investigating. We had even contacted an attorney for assistance, we wrote the insurance commissioner, we did everything we could thing of. Right after Christmas, the owner's of the duplex we were living in sold the property and the new owners decided to evict everyone so they could remodel and raise the rent. So now, our third time moving, we rented another house on a short term lease as the insurance company has told us that it should only be a few more weeks and we will be receiving a check. Those few weeks pass by only to be followed by a few more weeks until finally our lease runs out and our landlord has all ready rented the property to someone else. By thsi time, we've gotten mixed statements from our NEW (by this time our 5th) adjuster who says to my husband one day the decision was made to pay out and then 2 days later tells me that my husband is a liar and she never said that and to think any different then I am crazy. Here we are not, almost a year to date since our house has burned down and I got a phone from Stephanie, our adjuster, who rudely stated in a voicemail to me that our claim has been denied and we will be receiving a letter in the mail. One year, a year of fighting, and suffering and we won't see a dime. After being insulted, called liars, and told that we are stupid by customer service, treated like criminals during the whole investigation, no assistance, and no caring. We just lost everything, our entire lives were in that house and they show no compassion. What kind of business can do that?

One more thing... they should drug test more often. There is a long history of employees being fired due to selling drugs on the USAA campus and even then there were coworkers, in my group of 10, at least 8 stated they did some type of drugs. Why would they only drug test once (during hiring) in the many years I as there I don't know.
I used to work at USAA in the property damage department and have to let you known that it is in their very intention to not pay some claims. They have constant meetings about how to detect fraud, how to catch liars and deny claims, how to ask the right questions to verify if a member is hiding information and only just one a year or so... if the phones aren't too busy and they have the time to do it, about compasion. I work for a wonderful insurance company now whose number one concern is the members. Please take the time to look around because if you're having problems like this they don' t deserve your business. Even when I worked there I refused to have their insurance, sure its cheap but so is the service.
Glad to be out of USAA
Not only are they a horrible insurance carrier they really come close to crossing the line of hiring indentured servants. I worked at USAA for almost a year and they are definitely a modern day sweat shop. One thing in particular that drove me crazy was how they treated the India workers that contracted there. Those Indian workers are the hardest longest hour workers I have ever met. They did most of the grunt work and the American workers went to meetings all day and took credit for the Indian workers work. These workers are scared to death to say anything because they are afraid to lose their VISA's. One example an Indian worker had made vacation arrangements to go back and see his family in India because his sister was having a child. He had not been back to his country in over 2 years, and this trip was planned early and everyone at USAA was fully aware. About a week before he was scheduled to leave they forced him to cancel his vacation and gave him no alternative time to go. When I left the company he still was not able to go home. Most of the American people that worked there started working there right after college, their first job. Salaried individuals are required to work at least 20% overtime and you are constantly attached to the job by a phone that they require you carry with you at all times. Don't get me wrong, if someone is paying you to do a job, you should do the best you can, but if that business feels your job is more important than your family, then they can kiss your ###. I hope that one day the FBI uncovers the indentured servitude that USAA undoubtedly forces on these poor humans.
I agree. They are a horrible insurance carrier to have. I was the victim in my car accident and somehow I lost because the other party that was at fault hired an "accident reconstructionist" and changed his story around.
Before all of this happened, they were not returning my calls and helping with the situation. Then they turned their back on me. I thought that they were supposed to be our advocates? I had to hire an attorney to make sure that they were acting in good faith.
We feel your pain. We are going through almost exactly the same situation with USAA house insurance. We lost our house back in August 2007. They kept promising us and nothing came or no calls from them. They also later avoided our calls and did everything by letter. After almost 1 year after the house fire, they turned everything against us. We decided to take our issue to a Lawyer. Our Lawyer plans to sue them. He said that it may take 1 to 2 years. I don't care how long it takes, I ain't going to let them get away with dening us for something we didn't do. I suggest you do the same. Get a Lawyer. They will keep dragging you to nothing.
Sincerley,
Jenny from Texas.

incorrect reporting to credit bureaus
April 1999 we got a car loan thru USAA. The payment were directly deducted from our USAA checking account every month by USAA. June 2002 we opened a checking account with a local bank and USAA started deducting the loan payemnts from that account - No problem! then in September 2002 Chapter 13 bankruptcy was filed and USAA was notified. The car loan was current and USAA continued to deduct the payment from our checking account. In December 2002 USAA reported the loan as 3 months past due! Needless to say, we proved to the court that the loan was current.
The loan was paid off in April 2004. USAA has been reporting this loan as a charged off bad debt since May 2003 ansd as 3 month past due. USAA refuses to correct this on the credit report and it will stay on there till May 2013. We are now reopening the Chapter 13 only to get this corrected.

bad faith
June 30, 2009
Official complaint
To all concerned,
Usaa insurance company is basically a military endorsed company who enjoys profits to the tune of 40 to 50 million dollars. Usaa insurance company takes monthly and quarterly premiums, have no serious oversight to regulate them, put families in financial ruins, conduct business strictly on bad faith, withhold pertinent information from homeowners, place families at risk by exposing them to toxic black mold for a year and a half all to save money.
They have been amoral, allowed personal feelings to overrule professionalism, interfered with the safety of my family by disclosing personal information to companies and telling the companies not to come to my home to repair or conduct certain actions because they will not pay. They have exclusions in their policies that allow them to take money from consumers and pay the least amount of money and use the term mitigate to absolve themselves of any responsibility.
My complaint is that usaa had knowledge for a year and a half that my roof and atrium leaked when my home was hit by a tornado in early 2008. They with held this report and told me it was internal documentation not privy to the homeowner. As a result, usaa made a conscious decision to withhold this information for a year in a half. This decision caused me and my son great illnesses. Mushrooms were growing out of our wall from behind the wall paper which is what alerted us to the toxic black mold (In february 2009). We were hit by tornados and bad weather for three consecutive weeks and water damage consumed my entire home in february and march 2009).
However, for a year and a half that we lived in our home, we were breathing 15 toxic molds (Which is now at a rate of 356, 973 count/m3 for 15 different molds) in my home and I have been told to vacate. I have had severe medical problems as a result. I want to know who is going to hold usaa accountable for their actions. I had a right to know. I should have been afforded the opportunity to have access to that report, since I didn’t, my home has got to be gutted or condemned. My money went into repairs; I will have three households to support, the mortgage, my spouse apartment in augusta and a place for me to live.
Now I find that amongst the other medical problems, I have an ovarian cyst. I have loss my hair; broke out in rashes, extreme fatigue, vomiting, red eyes, passing out inside my home, and swollen feet, medications have stop working, and etc. My pet has been hurt because by the time I finished following all of usaa’s representatives instructions, I have been living on exposed concrete floors and in substandard conditions by following usaa representative instructions. They are not omnipotent and do not have the right to play god with people’s lives. I get to pay them thousands of dollars for a non-functioning insurance policy.
Who gives them the right to decide that just because they want high quarterly earnings and profit, that they can just with hold reports that endangers my family’ life for a buck. Because as ms. Lindsay dillon, adjustor for usaa, [protected] ext. 44738) says, if we pay every claim, we would not have any money. I don’t want to hear, the contract is not flawed and is in their favor and I just need to move on with my life as teresa raymond, public relations has told me [protected]) and mike cox, director of claims [protected]) has told me.
I was purposely due to bad faith left in this house so they would not have to repair a roof (wear or tear or marring, this house was remolded when I used my veteran’s certificate to buy it and it is not the original as they claim of 35 years) or atrium. If I had the appropriate information, I would have repaired it myself. Who will tell them that withholding information is wrong? Just because they think they can does not make it right. Their behavior have been at a minimum certainly amoral with bad faith with clauses strategically placed in sub-sections of a contract and they get millions of dollars to cover our homes and autos in which if condemned the fannie mae has to cover the substantial loss. They took away my right to repair my home, by giving me erroneous information, intentionally misguiding me, thwarted efforts of repairs, and I trusted them.
Incidents
A. The first flood happened in early 2008 of last year. Adjusters for the insurance company usaa could not find the source of the problem and provided me with faulty information therefore not leading to the proper repairs that could have been taken by my family.
B. The adjuster stated the home flooded from torrential rains that came from the street and seeped underground and up through the concrete slab therefore flooding the home. The home has an atrium and the adjustor did not inform me that the atrium was or could be a problem. For approximately two inches around the atrium on three of its sides were dry and the water had completely flooded the foyer which is located in the front of the home. The damage was in the middle of the carpeted floors. The adjuster checked the roof and did not inform me that the roof could be another source of the flooding of the home or any wear or tear of the roof. There were water spots on the wall and that is what the insurance company paid for (Wet spots on the wall). No report was ever forwarded to me. He also did not tell where the water could be coming from. Information I received was stated verbally over the phone during several conversations with usaa representatives. There was no crack in the foundation of our home when it was checked at that time.
C. Equipment was bought to dry vac to clean up the water and the areas on the walls repaired.
D. During the february 28, 2009 flood, our house was flooded on three different occasions for three consecutive weeks. On the first occasion of 2009, a new adjustor came out and reported to me that the roof on the home was the original roof and that the insurance would not pay for the repair of the original roof. The adjustor stated the roof was 35 years old. First the house was remolded when we moved in and there are parts on my roof that were not available 35 years ago.
E. Unlike the adjustor who stated the roof were unstable, erosion had been occurring before we moved into the home. I take issue with that because my home was inspected by the va because I used my va certificate to buy this home. Also, what did he aspect after several tornados in 2008 and 2009. The last time I checked, tornados and severe weather storms does damage. The adjustor also stated the carpet had water damage and the insurance company would only pay for the cleaning of the carpet. The outside fence was damaged and usaa depreciated the cost of the fence and would repair that. However, the adjustor did not put the carpet on the report and I called lindsay dillon, of usaa and reported after conversations that the carpet was also damaged. Miss dillon stated she would send the adjustor back out.
2. During the second week, we were flood before the same adjustor came back out. Before the initial flooding, our yard men cleaned off the roof and gutters to include the atrium. Also during this storm, it began to rain inside of the house. The furniture was damaged and the floor soaked.
A. The usaa representative stated to me when I immediately had the problem and called into usaa, to pull all the padding up from under the floor that was wet throughout the home and leave the padding outside of the home to show the adjustor.
B. I complied although I have not been working due to the fact that I am waiting to have three surgeries at one time. (My spouse is stationed and lives in augusta georgia therefore incurring expenses for two households). On the second visit from the adjustor, he found leaves in the gutter of the atrium and on the roof which occurred from the second storm.
C. More damaged from the second storm, the nails that were in the gutters of the atrium were ripped from the wooden foundation that kept the gutters intact. The rain came too fast for the atrium to drain all the water incurred that came from the rains into the house via the atrium and roof.
D. Again, I complied with all instructions, cleaned as much water as possible over the week end and awaited appointments for companies to be scheduled to come to look at the home for repairs that usaa stated they would not pay for. Also, during the waiting period, usaa representatives told me I should have went on the roof and place plastic over the roof during the rain and tact back up the gutters during the storm. I could not do those task due to the dangerous conditions because of the bad rain and had no knowledge of how or what to look for on the roof, nor had the ability handle the gutters alone.
E. During the third week, the house was flooded again and damaged the complete house with the exception of the three back bedrooms. Professionals’ final showed up, some came and others did not make their appointment. Usaa initially called service pro the third time and first gave permission to tarp the house and then pulled permission to tarp the house by a supervisor named marta, because we had disagreed on who would pay for the tarp. The house was finally tarped in the area where there was no damaged; the three back bedrooms. I complained and was told to tarp the rest of the house with plastic from home depot and that I was responsible for all the damage and if usaa paid every claim they would not have any money, per lindsay dillon.
F. I was also told to pull up the carpet and move all the furniture, if I did not comply, I would be responsible and liable to pay for my own belongings, in which usaa didn’t pay anyways, however, following their instructions has left me worst off.
G. There is no carpeting throughout the house except in the back of the home and part of the front where mold is highly concentrated along with the master bedroom (Where I sleep each night) and there is furniture and other items which were damaged such as televisions, wooden tables, and entertainment center.
3. Usaa will only repair the fence. The atrium gutters and wood have to be repaired and the boarders around the windows of the atrium. Every day I find something new wrong cited by the contractors from the tornados.
Situation:
1. It is mandatory as homeowners to have insurance. Our choice after being lied to and manipulated by our previous insurance company, we decided to go with the military endorsed company usaa.in short, usaa withheld documentation from the first water damage that we had in early, 2008. Teresa raymond, usaa public relations informed me that usaa had knowledge during the first incident that we had a leaky roof; the atrium was a problem, and a crack in the foundation of the home. Usaa’s policy is not to be released to the homeowners because it is not their responsibility to tell homeowners how to maintain their homes. This information was with held and I was told that the water leaks on the ceiling were from air condensation from the air conditioner in 2008. We looked for a crack in the foundation and could not find it. The adjustor sent to our home said it was a crack in the foundation and mentioned nothing about the roof or atrium.
2. I have been fighting with usaa since february 2009. They did not disclose the 2008 report which would have allowed me the opportunity to fix the roof, the atrium, and possible find the crack in the floor because we were not able to find it at that time, because it was none. That is an act of bad faith and a violation of the right to know law and negligence among other violations committed by usaa.
3. As the alleged number one insurance company in the u. S., it was predictable for them and foreseeable that a leaky roof and atrium would produce mold in the walls and throughout the house. However, for a year in a half, usaa made a conscious decision not to disclose this information so they would not have to repair a roof. As each tornado and bad storm came, I would call into their office terrified and horrified that my roof would collapse on me and my family, crying on the phone for them to help us. As usual, they ignored my pleas for help. Furthermore, because they did not release information that they knew could affect our health, my family has lived in a house full of black toxic mold which has affected me and my son medically.
4. Medically : my medications have stopped working since I have been in this home, which is why I believe I have to have surgery from living continuous black toxic mold. I have no place to go. The mold is so toxic, I have had to move stay at hotels to give my body a break from the mold and excessive vomiting.
A. Symptomlogy: medication is no longer effective. Uncontrollable coughing and choking, and frequent headaches. I have had respiratory problems, bronchitis twice, fevers, and treated for pneumonia. My hair has fallen out up to two inches, unexplainable rashes, extreme fatigue and passing out while in the home. Swollen feet, red eyes, vomiting, memory problems. I found out within the last two months that I now have an ovarian cyst and my thyroid is four times its normal level. Currently, more tests have now has to be run.
5. How is it that I pay them thousands of dollars a year to protect my home and yet they get to avoid over $60, 000 of work, because they didn’t want to pay $11, 000 dollars during the first tornado in 2008, all they had to do is tell me what the problem was and send me a report. Not only did they with hold this information purposely, willingly, and with malice, but thwarted efforts for me to repair my home by disclosing personal information they had no right to disclose to companies, financially they had cost us more than we ever thought it would cost.
6. Furthermore, my son and I have been breathing this putrid air for over a year and a half. Medically, I have to have surgery and have been turned downed by three surgeons to include military surgeons because no one can figure out what is wrong me. The other two surgeries cannot happen until they know what the third problem is. The only reason why I believe I have to have to first two surgeries is because my medication has been become ineffective. Even if I did have surgery, there is nowhere for me to recoup. The only thing that is not affected by mold is the attic. All the walls are wet and have to be gutted from the floor to the ceiling, treated for mold. Usaa is an amoral, greedy, and doesn’t deserve to be in business. What kind of company does this to people? Usaa! I want them to live up to their agreement, repair my home, replace my belongings, and be dealt with by governing agencies.
Remedies:
1. Usaa investigated
2. Usaa financially sanctioned
3. Usaa prohibited from doing business in georgia
4. Usaa responsible and to pay all of my medical bills
5. Usaa be placed under an oversight committee
6. My home repaired
7. Hotel stays
8. Pay for third rental property while my home is repaired
9. Vet bills
Respectfully submitted again,
Kim anderson

OMG ... you all live my nightmare too! I thought I was all alone. I have been trying to get my home repaired since Jan 28, 2011. We ended up finding 3 types of toxic mold in the air and surfaces of our home. They sent us a contractor (ARS, Springfield, MA) that screwed with us for months then sent a sub-contractor. We questioned why the sub-contractor was taking "short cuts". Was told that ARS told them to. Had a meeting with David (adjustor at ARS - USAA just used his report instead of sending their own adjustor). David informed us that he "made a mimstake on the proposal and weren't going to do that." (with a check of $19, 277.00 sitting on his desk) WHAT?!?!?! BREACH OF CONTRACT! Contacted USAA told them what happened and the idiot on the phone asked me "Well, what do you want to do?" ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I told them I wanted them out of my house immediately. It just goes on and on. I have gotten so ill the my heart has been affected, my lungs, memory, etc. Found out not only are we living with 3 types of toxic mold but I'm ALLERGIC to mold! Had to move me, my husband, our FIVE children and our large husky into my mother's 2 bedroom mobile home. Oh yeah! Been here since Jan 26, 2012. Unbelievable! We have an attorney but he is dragging his feet getting some 93A letters to ARS and USAA demanding settlement or something like that.
Declare your independence from USAA, if you currently have USAA insurance, schedule today as the day to change insurance carriers. Low rates are one thing, but if you don't anything for it, what's the point. You're just giving someone your money for nothing. You might as well just start giving that money to your local church and donating it. At least then you'd get something out of it.
USAA has several class-action law suits against them as well as many other policy holders who just don't have the money to file a law suit. You can still file a contingency based law-suit, if you can fine an attorney who is confident enough to win a case against a large insurance agency.
You can file a complaint with the NAIC and the state insurance bureau. If they receive enough complaints they will take action and may file a class-action lawsuit for everyone with the same issue within your state.
USAA demonstrates a tenacity to low-ball estimates and not pay what they should if anything at all. USAA is doing the same thing the insurance companies did when hurricanes hit Florida and Louisiana. Before you decide to ignore this message or any of the others before it, ask yourself if you are confident that USAA will pay your insurance claim or find a way around it. Considering all of the other posts regarding it...evidence quite clearly says they won't. Once a thief, always a thief. If they've done it to others, they'll do it to you too.
I've had USAA for over a decade and have had to file an auto claim and 2 home insurance claims in that time. The first when I was first starting to drive and hit an unmarked pothole, USAA declined to cover the damage to my vehicle stating it wasn't covered within the policy. I had full-coverage. In the past 2 years, we've had to file 2 home insurance claims on a home we purchased and had to PCS away from and have since rented out. Both instances, USAA has done nothing but cause delays. Our claims rep, Felicia Leggett is by far the worst. She seeks out whatever is in the best interest of USAA. Her manager, Terry Sauve is no different. She has requested 4 inspections to get the lowest possible estimate. And don't even get me started on Paul Davis Restoration, their go to contractor. They will give you the lowest possible estimate and do the least amount of work possible. it might look repaired, but it isn't. That probably goes for any other "preferred network provider" of USAA. Don't use them. On our previous claim, Paul Davis was brought in and only estimated $12, 000+ for the job. After they failed to do anything the 30 days following the removal of the water mitigation equipment, we chose our own contractor. This estimate came to almost $30, 000. USAA then wanted to bring in another adjustor, so I requested a 3rd party independent adjustor, IAS. Their estimate was pretty close to $30, 000. So that begs to ask whether or not USAA is doing anything morally or ethically right.
We are a military family, and I don't believe for a second that USAA's interests are to support military families. USAA's interests are greed and the bottom dollar. If you don't believe me, simply wait until you have to file a claim yourself. If you decide to stick with USAA, be forewarned and at the very least record every conversation and keep a record of every correspondence including dates.
USAA is highly noted for their UNFAIR TRADE PRACTICES and BAD FAITH.
Declare your independence form USAA today, or declare your stupidity.
Hey Jeff, you wrote 8 sentences, and in those 8 sentences you demonstrated to everyone the garbage attitude that your policy holders have to deal with. Reading your 8 sentences I'm willing to bet that you were hoping your boss was going to walk into work the next day, pat you on the back and hand you a raise. Have you ever seen the movie "The Secert Life of Walter Mitty"?
I've always said the best way to make these people or companies pay attention is to hit them where it hurts, THEIR WALLETS. If every policy holder they have were to threaten to change insurance companies at the same time what do you suppose would happen? They're not going to take the first 10 callers seriously or even the first 10, 000 but multiply the next 10, 000 by the next 10, 000 and see how fast they start picking up the phones next time you call with a problem. Think about it, would you much rather pay a few dollars in late fees or keep getting the same crappie service. Who knows you might even find an another insurance that you are really comfortable with and not one that waves the old RED, WHITE and BLUE in your face. How many of you have noticed that that seems to be the trick of the day now to sucker in clients and once they know they have you in so deep you can't see your way out, amnisa sets in and they can only remember what's in the fine print of their policy and not what you could swear came out of their mouth.
Jeff,
Have you ever had to file a complaint with USAA over the past 20 yrs? I bank with them, have auto insurance and homeowners ins. (on 2 houses) through them, purchased both of my houses through them, an equity loan AND my husband's a Navy Veteran. In 25 yrs of being a loyal customer (and referring others to them), I have placed 1 claim with them (homeowners) upon which they wanted to drop me. I had to BEG them to keep me, agreeing to up my deductible by double and drop my sump pump insurance. I now need them again and they are refusing to cover my rotting roof (due to the "perils" of snow and ice build up). All I can say to you is that I'm glad you're happy and I hope you never actually "need" to file a claim with them. BTW, I am a well-educated (4 yr college degree), middle class, American who trusts that when we pay good hard earned $ for a product a company should stand behind said product, and insurance IS a product.
I've worked with USAA over 20 years and they are hands down the best large company out there. Never a problem with any of their products or employees. Reading through these complaints it is obvious that the writers are not the most astute individuals with zero since of personal responsibility and no clue about how to deal with a company.
Their stories are unfortunate, but the accusations are ridiculous to the point of being absurd. For instance, blaming USAA for telling them the wrong location of the leak. USAA is not a home repair business. They are insurance, banking, investment company. Please people get a clue.
On July 3rd, 2009, I filed a complaint about USAA home owners insurance. I have not been on line to comment or to answer any questions that others have posted for me. To formerinsurancedjuster: I can only tell you of my experience. My home had been inspected by different insurance adjusters from USAA. The last adjustor after previous adjustors (who never told me) was the one who told me about the roof after there had been several storms and tornados over the years I lived there. To why the other adjustors did not tell me, is a question to them. However, when I talked to Teresa Raymond, Public Relations [protected], I'm not sure that's the same number for her), she was the one after the last adjustor and only adjustor, told me about the roof and she said that that information was internal documentation and that it "was privy" to USAA only and that they do not tell home owners how to maintain their home, they just tell them what they will and will not pay for. When she told me that the roof had been the source of the leaks and they had known that since the first adjustor came to our home over a year and a half ago when this started, it became quite apparent that what the other adjustors told me and what they filed with USAA was two different things. I was out raged. I asked her how can they not tell me what they found the first time around so repairs could have been made. However, they said nothing but to get over it and to move on with my life. None of the insurance adjustors as I recall gave me any paperwork, all information was verbal. As with the representatives, all instructions were verbal. There is a debate to rather the roof was as old as they claimed, I have had several different roofing companies at that time come to the house and they all said that the roof was not as old as USSA said it was (35 years old), and materials that was on my was not 35 years old and no roof would last that long. You see in Georgia, up until recently, roofers did not have to file for a permit with the city to repair your roof, and if it is not filed with the city then it appears that no work has ever been done according to their records. My home had been completely remolded and done by licensed contractors and approved by VA before we could even buy the home.
As to the origins of this horrific ordeal, I had said previously that we had had many bad storms and tornados in my area, which will cause damage and then some. They were never up front and wanted to save money at my family's expense. So, I am suing.
It is about the principle and because my spouse is still military, we have relocated. USAA attorney's scheduled a deposition for me in November 2010. After I spent money on tickets and was in Georgia, the USAA attorneys canceled. While there, because my immune system had been so affected by the mold, I caught a serious cold and became very ill after being in Georgia for only three days. My respiratory system started to shut down on me. I flew back home very ill and had to go to the hospital and was admitted immediately because I could not breathe. I am on two different inhalers, one with steroids, and have to take medications and precautions everyday due to the deterioration of my health. A simple cold will affect my breathing and left unattended my respitory problem becomes unreal. My breathing becomes shallow, my chest tightens up, I can't get enough air into my lungs, and I gasp for air to talk. My doctors just told me that my respitory problem is not under control and different actions have to be taken such as a nebulizer to expand my lungs when I'm not getting enough air. Going outside for six hours leaves me with a mild cold and then I have to stay in the house and nurse myself back to health. My husband when I'm sick stays up at nights to ensure I'm breathing, then he has to go to work and put in 15 or more hours at work as a SGM, and I know that he is tired and I worry about him. Who would have thought that mold can change your life and family's life forever. Each year I get older, the weaker my immune system becomes. My son who is young has had to be rushed to the hospital via ambulance for unknown origin of fever. So please provide me with some information to why they would not give me a report, why they would not inform me when they got the initial report in which they said was the roof, and why they kept telling me different things was the cause of why the house was flooding? We dumped a great deal of our own money chasing different adjustors’ ideas with what was wrong with the house. From air conditioning, to buying equipment they suggested, to plumbers, and replacing piping because it was thought it would help. So please give me some insight. Because I just don't understand why USAA did what they did or why? I did report them at the time to the insurance commissioner's office. However, they are pro insurance and the consumer's voice is never heard unless you scream at the top of your lungs, which I find very difficult to do due to shortness of breath. They never got back to me since I filed.
SO I SAY TO YOU ALL WHO HAVE DEALT WITH USAA OR DIFFERENT INSURANCE COMPANIES AND HAVE HAD SERIOUS SITUATIONS SUCH AS MINE DON'T END UP LIKE ME. FORCE THE ISSUE; GET IT IN WRITING, TAKE DOWN NAMES, PHONE NUMBERS, AND DATES AND TIMES CONVERSATIONS TAKE PLACE. THEY ARE LIKE ANY OTHER BUSINESS; THEIR PRESENCE HERE IS TO MAKE MONEY AND PROFIT, NO MATTER THE CONSEQUENCES. I'M NOT SAYING THAT ALL INSURANCE COMPANIES ARE BAD, BECAUSE EVERY COMPANY HAS THEIR COMPLAINTS. ALSO, HAD I NOT DOCUMENTED, GOT NAMES AND NUMBERS AND CONVERSATIONS DOWN, I WOULD NOT HAVE ANYTHING FOR MY ATTORNEYS TO FILE SUIT. BE CAREFUL; PROTECT YOUR FAMILY, YOUR HEALTH, AND YOUR ASSETS, ESPECIALLY YOUR CHILDREN; BECAUSE WE STILL DO NOT KNOW ALL THE LONG TERM SIDE AFFECTS THAT MY SON WILL CONTINUE TO EXPERIENCE THROUGHOUT HIS LIFE BECAUSE WE LIVED WITH MOLD INFESTING OUR HOME SO LONG. HE'S WHAT IS IMPORTANT, THE DAMAGE TO MY RESPITORY SYSTEM IS UNDESPUTED; MY CONCERN IS MY SON AND THE ACCOUNTABILITY THAT USAA HAS TO HIM IN THE FUTURE, HENCE THE LAWSUIT. I ALREADY KNOW MY HEALTH IS HORRIB LE AND POSSIBLE THAT LIFE SPAN HAS BEEN CUT SHORT AND THERE IS NOTHING THAT I CAN DO ABOUT IT, I'VE ACCEPTED IT AND NOW HAVE TO ENSURE MY SON IS TAKEN CARE OF. JUST LIKE THAT, USAA CHANGED MY LIFE BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T WANT TO PAY A CLAIM AND BE HONEST. HAD I NOT BEEN SO TRUSTING AND BELIEVED THAT USAA HAD ME AND MY FAMILY'S BE INTEREST AT HEART, AND FOLLOWED ALL THEIR INSTRUCTIONS EACH TIME WITHOUT QUESTIONS, I WOULD BE HEALTHY, NO EMERGENCY ROOM VISITS, CONSULTATIONS WITH DOCTORS OVER MY BREATHING PROBLEMS AND MY SON WOULDN'T HAVE SIDE EFFECTS. LET ME BE THE CAUTIONARY TALE TO QUESTION, ALWAYS QUESTIONS!
I SEE MY ATTORNEYS IN TWO WEEKS, AND I'M NOT LOOKING FORWARDS TO FLYING, OR EXPOSING MYSELF TO A DIFFENT CLIMATE CHANGE THAT CAN MAKE ME ILL, IT'S A RISK TO MY HEALTH, BUT IF I DON'T GO AND FACE USAA, THEY WIN AND THEY HAVE NO ACCOUNTABILITY AND THEY GET TO DO THIS AGAIN AND AGAIN. SO, I'M GOING TO RISK MY HEALTH AND PRAY I DON'T HAVE SEVERE RESPITORY PROBLEMS WHILE AWAY OR UP IN THE AIR ON A PLANE WHERE I CAN’T GET ANY HELP. BUT WHILE I'M THERE, IF ANYONE WANTS ME TO GIVE THEIR NAME AND INFORMATION TO MY ATTORNEYS AND IF A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IS POSSIBLE, I WILL GIVE THEM TTHE INFORMATION AND IF THEY HAVE ENOUGH PEOPLE, THEY MAY CONSIDER DOING IT, I DON'T KNOW, BUT ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. I CAN'T GUARENTEE IT, BUT NONE OF US HAVE ANYTHING TO LOSE. THERE IS MORE STRENGTH IN NUMBERS THAN STANDING ALONE. YOU MAY CONTACT ME AT lander8646@aol.com. reference USAA Class Action, Name, Phone Number or email, Situation, and I will pass it on to them to see if they want it or if they can do it. Signing off AND GOOD LUCK EVERYONE, AND AGAIN, BE CAREFUL. THERE ARE PREDITORS OUT THERE. KIM.
This is Kim who wrote bad faith, I posted answers to some of your responses just today under home owners insurance/warranty about USAA just to keep everyone up to date. So check that section out, home owners insurance/warranty. It has a email address and information for those who would like to try and get a class action lawsuit going against USAA. HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU!
Dont feel like the lone rangers. We have a different insrace company an when our house burne dow they recommend Paul Davis Restoation as their "Preferred Service Provider". Butin our case it wasn't a low ball rstmte they maxed out our policy limit. They this this by charging our policy $15, 595 for a $7, 600 screened lanai and charging us 5900 sf of roofin for a 5300 sf roof. All approved by the adjuster for their peferred provider. Not to mention that the work fail to meet the building code. Since we moved back in we have discovered over 100 code violation such as cut trusses, wrong hurricane straps, and wrong ceiling board just to name a few. It would seem that all the "preferred service" program are ripoffs and designed to line the pockets of the insurance companies and the preferred vendor buddies.
File a complaint with the insurance bureau and attorney general for your state. The insurance bureau is required to be appended to your home owners insurance or fire blanket policy. It's usually towards the end. Make sure you site everything including dates. I'm putting together an ambiguous blog, due to the possibility of being sued for lible. Even though it may be completely truthful, I wouldn't put it past USAA or any of their "network providers" to file a law suit against someone knowing they probably don't have enough money for appropriate legal costs to fight it. I will also be linking this site to the blog, maybe after it seems we have enough people for a class action law suit against USAA...we'll take'm to the bank.
keep raising rates and coverages
I bought my home in 2004 and paid $700.00 for a year of home insurance. 2005 paid $800.00. 2006 paid $850.00. 2007 paid $1100.00. 2008 paid $1150.00 and 2009 paid $1400.00. I have never filed a claim and always pay in full for the entire year. They have my property insured for $100, 000.00 over what my city taxes have it valued at this year. My premiums should of decreased this year instead of increased. I called them and they won't lower my coverage to what I had the previous years or what I want it to be. My neighbor pays $700.00 a year still with State Farm. Government needs to look at insurance companies for price gouging. I am a Retired Senior Chief and urge all brothers, sisters and military personnel to take a good hard look at your policy and compare it with your property taxes and see how much they are over charging you by shopping around. Also, Progressive always beats them on auto insurance quotes. We don't make that much in the military and even less when you retire, so USAA should not be taking advantage of any military vets. United we are heard, stand strong and can again make this company provide affordable and realistic rates, which is the reason it was started in the first place.
I am still looking for a less expensive home insurance company, so I can cancel my USAA Policy. I switched auto insurance from Progressive to Allstate, because they kept raising my rates just like USAA does, and I saved over $800.00 a year. Allstate is quoting me only $50.00 less than USAA on my yearly house insurance. I will check with State Farm and see what they are charging. Does anyone know of some reasonable home insurance companys?
We have been with USAA Home insurance since my husband retired 6 years ago. Sad to say, but we are shopping around for better rates. USAA has raised our home owners policy for the past 3 years..reason...the state of Texas! That is what I was told. Oh, so now the State has the power to raise my insurance rates? BS. Goodbye USAA! Taking my home, 5 cars, and boat to a company who cares! --- We took our motorcylces off the coverage last year and are now saving over 700 a year! SHOP AROUND PEOPLE. USAA isn't for the military anymore.
Agree - After 35+ years auto insurance and 30 years home insurance I too switched. What am I paying home insurance for when deductable has gone to over $7, 000? State Farm offered $1000 deductable, but the new policy will be a $5500 hurricane deductable; so, here I go again. Now on to Liberty Mutual for the house and dumping USAA for the cars as well.
File a complaint with your states attorney general and insurance bureau. Your rates should be based on your fico and vantage scores as well as your driving history, and inflation. They should be able to explain their rates or how they calculate their rates, and if your quotes rates are higher than someone else with less than desirable records...file a discrimination lawsuit. Just make sure you have all the proof you need. I'm creating a blog to combat USAA's unethical business practices and will create a place just for this where we can help each other prove what we need to to win a lawsuit against USAA. I've had it with them myself. My Wife is an attorney and all of her friends in NYC are attorneys and they all say it's hard to fight an insurance company unless you have substantial ground to stand on. The only way, might be a class action law suit. Who's with me?
I've had the same experience with USAA, homeowners insurance increasing dramatically. I called USAA to get a quote with a fake name and my neighbors address (same size/age home) and was told that my rate would be significantly less than what they have raised mine to currently. So do I cancel my policy and just open a new one with USAA because they are doing this, I don't think so. This seems to be a trend with USAA, they bring you in with a reasonable rate then raise it substantially in hopes you wont notice or take the time/effort to change insurances. It's amazing they get away with it.
I switched to State Farm and received a reasonable rate and great coverage.
I moved from Texas to Vegas and only have one car. I bought a cheapo car just to get to work (cost 3500) and USAA raised my 6 month premium by $400. I was pretty upset and told them that I had been loyal to USAA for the past 11 years and that it didn't seem fair since I have never filed a claim. Also, I haven't had any speeding or DUI infractions. My monthly payments were to jump from $119 to $180 (renters ins included). I called GEICO as soon as I hung up with USAA and now my premium for 2 cars is the same as to what I was paying USAA for 1 car..
I agree. I bought my condo 4 years ago and was paying $600 / yr. My rates have kept increasing, and my policy renewal just arrived - I will be paying $1200 / yr now. How did it double in 4 years? My condo value has probably stayed the same and I've never had a claim on it. I also live in a city that hasn't had any earthquakes / hurricanes / wildfires / mudslides / landslides / tornadoes / tsunamis / anything else remotely dangerous to homes ecept for a bunch of snow every year.
As of 2010, currently pay $670 and out of nowhere, USAA is raising my rate to almost $1100. they are saying because they are adjusting their rates because they haven't looked at it since 1999. They also said they have the square footage of my house as 1400 square feet. Now my house is 2400 square feet and I know I just filled out 2 questionaires regarding my home information... One on paper and another was done on the phone. So now they want to raise my rate from $670 to $1400. Might as well take my paycheck every week...NUTJOBS!
I doubt if the "rebuild" costs for his home _doubled_ in 5 years, but clearly his insurance did. I don't know what's going on with USAA, but I've had it with them myself. I've been a member since the 60's. They clearly are gouging at virtually every level. Our home insurance has more than doubled with far less coverage. First they dropped the Earthquake coverage, then they dropped the Flood coverage, all the while jacking the rates. They increased our credit card rate by 50% this year (wife & myself both have credit scores above 800), and I just got our car insurance packet from them (USAA) for the upcoming 6 months that's jumping the rate by over 1/3 increase. Why? have cars gone up by over a third in the past six month? We've never had a ticket nor have we ever submitted a claim. When we bought our 2008 vehicle, I got a quote from USAA beforehand over the phone, then after the purchase they lied thru their teeth about what they had quoted me. Then they wouldn't allow me to increase our coverage because of a "freeze" due to the "Fires", until about a month after the purchase. We live in the desert along the AZ/CA border, the nearest fire was over 250 miles from us, but according to them my zip code indicated a county with fires, never mind that San Bernardino is the largest county in the country and those fires could not cross hundreds of miles of barren desert to us with even a tornado pushing it! They came real close to losing us then, but they paid 5 1/4% percent interest on our Savings Accounts then. I just read an article dated Aug 9, 2009 about insurance gouging in CA., where our Insurance Commissioner wants to stop insurance companies from basing their rates on zip codes instead of your driving record, and of course the companies are against that. The article also listed the top 5 insurers in CA based on the most paid out from what they take in, USAA was not on that list, but the article also included the list of the top 5 insurers who paid out the least from what they take in and USAA _is_ number 3 on that list.
Plus, USAA has reduced our interest rates on our savings accounts to_less_ than 1%, or more than 80% reduction in the past year... and this is on $100, 000.00 accounts! Now there is no reason to stay with or put up with USAA any further. They will lose our insurance business by the end of this month, and I will continue to move our Savings Accounts to better pastures without the B.S. until none is left at USAA! They've already lost the business from my son (Vet/Captain in Gulf War) & his family, and now mine (Service Connected Disabled Viet Nam Vet)... but no doubt USAA will do just fine now that they've opened up their business to everyone. USAA is no longer USAA, Vets and active Service Personnel need to look around and compare! USAA may still talk the talk that they know what it means to serve, but their walk these days show that they are learning to gouge those that have!
Shouldn't Home insurance rates raise annually. After all ist based on the market price to rebuild your home in case of destruction. I don't think you could do that for what the county asseses it at. I know my home is assesed at 80, 000 but fair market value even now is 130, 000 plus I wouldn't be able to rebuid for 80k. Plus If you have a mortgage or mortgages on the house your insurance should be more than that. Think about that when attempting to lower you coverage to what the tax records say you home is worth. As you said you don't make much as a retiree... you don't want to end up owing on a house that's been destroyed. Or if you have a paid off home having to reopen loans because it cost more to repair than it's insured for. What about a place like San Diego where taxes are based on sales price... a home built in the 50's could easily have sold for 20, 000 property taxes can go up 1% a year since then... ( don't make me do the math and amoritrize that out please) but for all intents and puropses lets say current property taxex have that home valued at 75k. At the height of the bubble a home like that would have cost 600, 000 and for 75k in San Diego you couldn't have built a garage.
