I got an email a few days ago from an American company that organizes Green Cards for a US Visa for individuals. I did an application with them a few years ago, after graduating from college, but have no interest in renewing it now. In the email they sent, they asked me to update my details & re-upload a photo, now it appears that I was mislead and in updating my details they renewed my subscription. I don't want any transaction to go through from them & have told them so, but they have not responded to my request.

Please see a copy of emails exchanged to further explain:

Dear Garry Kelly,
Please note that the charge for your application was only made once. We charged 29$ for one year in the green card lottery. The reason why your application is now locked is because our technical department needs to review it and we can~t have any change of details during the review.

Sincerely,

You have not answered my question: Have you charged me for registering an application which i only updated (2nd June 2007)?

What do you mean by locking my profile? Are you trying to automatically charge me now on a continuous rota?

I await a response anxiously,
Garry

I m a young girl of 18 from Nepal.I have been receiving emails from USAFIS.In fact, i m trying to have my further studies in US and i'm going through the procedures like TOEFL, SAT n all...
I think this program can give me wide opportunities to work, study n adjust myself in US.
My parents have agreed that they can offer me money for this but i don't want the money to go in vain.Rather i can use the money for my student visa[if i m not guaranteed that involving myself in this lottery will pay off].That's why i would really be thankful to you people if you guide me whether i should go through this or not.

Look people, USAFIS is a SCAM! read number 4 at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diversity_Immigrant_Visa
as is previously posted. IT SAYS RIGHT THERE that the US government even warns that USAFIS is a scam.

The US cannot do anything to shut down the site because the site is based in ANOTHER COUNTRY. All they can do is warn people about the scam(which they do). ANY AND EVERY US GOVERNMENT WEBSITE ENDS IN .gov not .org, net, com, ANYTHING.

The DIV form IS FREE from the actual government site(I don't know it off the top of my head). No "lotto" that you pay for can garuntee you a visa, THAT'S NOT HOW IT WORKS. Your entry, and length of stay in the USA is SOLEY DECIDED by US immigration. (INS)

Stop being fooled by these fraudsters (which will say and do ANYTHING to get your money). The money you wasted on the site could have paid for your plane ticket to the US. As long as you have a passport you can gain entry to the US rather easily for a 30 day vacation. Once here you can easily apply for extensions/a more permanent visa.

I can't believe, after 3 pages of people saying this is a scam that ANYONE would even think about joining the site (Prerana Joshi). Don't waste the money. There is no opportunity with USAFIS. Stop being lazy, and actually find the US IMMIGRATION website and look up how to gain access to the country. You will save yourself a lot of money, pain, and mental anguish.

USAFIS IS A SCAM!Of course they are going to say they aren't, because they want your money, but remember, the official US DIV website WARNS YOU that USAFIS is a SCAM. They tell you flat out that all the lottery sites for DIV are. ONLY TRUST .gov WEBSITES for any immigration concerns.

Send me an email if you have more questions, I will be glad to help you and make sure you don't get ripped off!

THIS IS A FRAUD! This is just a rip off, the company charges you money for doing NOTHING, SCAM SCAM SCAM BIG TIME! DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT provide them with your credit card number and DO NOT apply for any of your services. Your money will be gone before you know it. Please pass this message to EVERYBODY who is trying to apply for Green Card Lottery. It is better to do it through an OFFICIAL U.S. Government site, not this criminal business that USAFIS is. Please stay away from USAFIS web site and the whole company!

Security comes first. I have just received a call from New York ( I am in South Africa). A lady called me
wanting me to complete my lottery application via visa card. The first time she called, she spoke in
english, the second time, she talked in French (typical french accent). I am not really convinced to
give them my card information. Also, she put so much pressure on me that night, that she wanted me to
pay.Something is not clear. Is there anyone who has won this so called lottery out there?
If so, please inform us (inocent people) about the truth of this whole thing!

Hy guys! I totally agree with you both. It happened to me last evening, I accidentally oppened their application form via Facebook and did not proceed with the payment at that time. Couple of hours later, a very insistent woman with foreign accent had called me and she put pressure on me as well to do the payment. She did not asked me, but she started filling the application form for 4 years entry and because I did not have enough credit(luckily), only 1/3 of the money went through. I already blocked my credit card and no longer want to hear about this sort of business. So, please be careful...you should not reveal your credit card details to no one and do a bit of research on the internet before, also check out the Terms & Conditions. I don't hope for a refund, I just felt miserable for being so naive. USAFIS is a very suspicious company...

Guys,

i have been contacted by USAFIS and i have applied over the phone and entered the draw. the woman who called me was an american unlike the stories i hear over here, but now i have serious doubts about what is really going on with that organization.
They have also given me a username and password and they have emailed me the receipt of the money i have paid and they said that the first draw will be in April 2009.
i really have mixed feelings about this thing, i don't know what to believe anymore! is this thing legit or not? in her phone call, the woman said that they are approved by the government and act on their behalf.
any further output on this matter is highly appreciate it.
and much to what has been previously said, if this thing is a scam then i am willing to join other swindled victims in here in a class-action law suit against those people and take further action as we move forward.

Let me know guys.

USAFIS is a fraud - what the friggin hell? but they give you a ticket to the usa if you win no? check the terms and conditions. you can enter for yourself free but you won't get a plane ticket you silly people. and if you were smart enough to realise www.usasgclottery.org also does this service. these people can't crook you because the USA green card lottery now has online electronic checking and email confirmation that your entry was received and YOU CAN CHECK the status of your application now too. So there is no fraud you silly people. Wake up. You are paying for a service of them doing it for you and if you win you can get a free flight - tell me does the official site give you flights? NO - wake up.

USAFIS.org is SCAM / FRAUD / HOAX.

DO NOT USE THEIR SERVICE!

Please read the following warning form the Federal Trade Commission:
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt003.shtm

I made same experience as Tiffany Yearwood described in the previous comments. A fictional character "Jane Parker" called me on my phone and requested my bank account details via phone. When I told her that I can't give away my details over the phone, she forwarded me to her "supervisor". He also then asked me for my bank account details, claiming that that is the only thing left to make the application to enter the lottery. When I said that I would like to make a bit of research before paying for something, he got upset and hang up. He was very frisky about getting my money RIGHT NOW, which immediately unveiled the obvious fraud.

Applying for green card lottery is FREE of CHARGE! So don't pay anybody, even if they claim that you are paying for their service. Application is very simple and can be done online, you don't need to pay anybody to do it for you. It is so simple that only a illiterate person will not be able to complete it.

For reference, read again the following warning about USAFIS.ORG alike websites:

USAFIS – Promising Successful DV Lottery Application Submission

USAFIS is a non governmental agency, assisting people in getting a Green Card through diversity lottery program. With our expertise, we can make the process of getting a Green Card simpler, by preparing a to-the-point and error free application for you.

It’s true that people can apply to Diversity Lottery program for free, whereas we charge some money for the services provided. But it doesn’t mean that we make any false promises to people. We only guarantee the acceptance of your application to the DV lottery program. Whoever is claiming that we promised them a Green Card is totally wrong? No one can guarantee you a green card through Diversity Lottery program.

At USAFIS we only help users in making successful submission of AV lottery application form. We remove all the possible chances of making mistakes and prepare an application with comprehensive details and documentations.

Some people even claim that we have charged their credit cards illegally, this is a complete mesh. As we are strict followers of law and all legal rules associated with customer services, which means there is no chance of any misuse of your credit card.

SILLY YOU - jon devreau

* Green Card Lottery winners will receive airline ticket1 for free, up to $500 value.
Terms mentioned herein are limited to winners who registered
through usafis.org and hired Usafis.org affiliated law firm to process their Green Card application.

That is what their site says. You will need to pay their law firm to process you green card application in case you won it, and it will cost you about $2600.00 USD. For this amount you can purchase at least 2 tickets one way from any point in the world to US.

Except that you will also need to pay at least $755.00 USD to your local Consulate when you will go to the interview to take your visa. And additional $$$ for passing various medical tests and vaccins. It is not as easy as it looks like.

I registered with USAFIS almost 3 weeks ago.. yesterday I uploaded my photo to the application. A woman named Jane Parker also called me about my credit card numer, and at that moment my stomach felt it. To give out your credit card number over the phone is just something one should never do. It is insecure, as you do not know who is sitting on the other side. I didn't think about it too much and clearly when she called, so I gave her the number. Ever since then I have been feeling in-complacent. So now, after reading all your negative comments from all over the world, I decided to block my credit card, and order a new one.

Thank you for great advice,

A woman from Norway

Dear A woman from Norway,
There are many cheats roaming on the internet, who keep fooling people on the name of some big company. Unfortunately, USAFIS is one of the victims of such frauds and have succeeded in maligning the name to some extent. I know atleast one family who are in USA because of the services of USAFIS. You can always keep your issue on their official website and I am sure your voice will be heard. You will come to know whether it was USAFIS or someone else.

Important Notice

No fee is charged for the electronic lottery entry in the annual DV program. The U.S. Government employs no outside consultants or private services to operate the DV program. Any intermediaries or others who offer assistance to prepare DV entries do so without the authority or consent of the U.S. Government. Use of any outside intermediary or assistance to prepare a DV entry is entirely at the entrant’s discretion.

The Department of State strongly encourages applicants to complete the application without the assistance of “Visa Consultants, ” “Visa Agents, ” or other individuals who offer to submit an application on behalf of applicants. In many cases, these facilitators substitute their address for an applicant’s address and thereby receive the selection notification instead of it being received by the actual applicant. Subsequently, the visa facilitators extort money from the selectees in order to receive the notification information that should rightly have gone directly to the DV selectee.

Hello my name is Roya, I understand everyone’s confusion because of the tons of commercial websites who take advantage of the green card program, which also confused me at some point until last month.

I’ll share with you my experience with USAFIS maybe it’ll give you some comfort or a different idea. I applied for the green card through USAFIS in 2007 and paid for 1 year program over the internet. I was then contacted by their agents who offered me multiple years submission program which I accepted and have paid for it, these were the only 2 times I paid and it wasn’t big money. Since then I received many calls from their friendly agents checking if my application is complete & if I had any questions, they also offered me native and business language programs to help me with my immigration but I didn’t buy any, it was optional anyway. I was also receiving emails from them and e-newsletters, you can unsubscribe if you don’t want them.

I was still confused until last month when I received a call from them informing me that I’m one of those randomly selected for the green card; one of the 100, 000 plus. They never guaranteed or promised that I will get the green card, but guided me for it & wished me good luck. The third last payment I made was to receive my documents by DHL ($49) and I did receive it. One of their agents called me to check if things are in order & if I did receive the documents. In fact it was nice customer service which I have to mention.

They instructed me to proceed immediately and send my forms to the US Department of State, Kentucky Consular Center, who’ll set an appointment for my interview with the Embassy/Consular in my place if my application was accepted. Now it is my chance, if I’m accepted for the interview, it’s going to be my own effort to win or lose.

USAFIS is not free because they offer a service package, that’s what I know, and if I became one of those lucky green cardholders I’ll let you know & will post a positive feedback in USAFIS website too.

I’d like if any of USAFIS members can post any feedback here, or any of the green card winners who applied through them. It’ll give some peace of mind to those who are confused.

Thanks

USAFIS is totally a fraud (although they deny over and over and over), please note that on the government website, it did mention that "many other nongovernmental websites e.g., using the suffixes such as " .com", ".org" or ".net" provide legitimate and useful immigration and visa related information and sevices. ...These websites may attempt to require you to pay for services such as forms and information about immigration procedures, which are otherwise free on the Department of State ...These web sites may contact you by email to lure you to take advantage of their false offer to get a U.S. Visa. Additionally, be wary of sending any personal information, since these sites may even be used to gather personal information that could result in identity fraud of theft."
First of all, they didn't post any PRICE LIST and NO REFUND POLICYand PLEASE READ OUR WARNING ABOUT WE CHEATING YOUR MONEYon their website or on the phone before they lure you into credit payment. As if anyone can be a manager over there, and by the way, the sale representative and manager sounded almost the same. The price is made by themselves, when you showed your doubts, they lower the price and gave you discount. The sales representative told me that I could always cancel, downgrade or upgrade my options, which is really a big lie, too. However, it's not over, I am not willing to be a sitting duck. Whoever is victimized by USAFIS, you should all stand up and file the complaint IC 3 form from FBI. Now I even wonder if their address is real or just as fake as they are.

I applied for the green card lottery at www.usadiversitylottery.com in 2003 and again in 2004 and I was thrilled when they contacted me and told me that I had won a green card. They were extreamly helpful and helped me filling out the three immigration forms that I recieved in my winning notification and also helped me get ready for the interview at no additional cost. So was it worth the $49 i paid for them processing my application? I still think it was extreamly cheap for that service they provided and I would do it again if I needed to enter this program again.
