Tuesday September 5th 2023 I received a postcard saying "unclaimed rewards offer 500.00 in savings for you good at Walmart/Target and more. Please call now [protected] mon-fri 9am to 10pm ET. " on the other side it says "FINAL NOTICE"
I called the number and Jennifer asked me for my 8 digit claim number on the card and says my full name and I say what is this about? You are entitled to two gift cards totaling 500.00 and to get my 1st card for $250.00 to walmart. I only have to give her 3.95 for shipping and processing fees and $250.00 Walmart gift card will be sent out. I asked her do I sign up for a monthly subscription? and she said no. I said did I sign up for this?, how did you get my name and she said that I recently made a purchase from one of their 3rd party companies that I am eligible for the gift cards and all I need is 3.95 for shipping and processing fees and the 2nd card is no cost for $250 Walmart gift card. I said that is great where are you located and she said Minnesota. As she was talking I was googling all of this information and what popped up said "Mail postcard Value plus gift card scam." So I tell her that I need to put money in my account do you take credit cards and she said yes. I said ok I'll call you right back. I Googled value plus Minnesota and a flooring company popped up. There was no such website. I Googled the number and nothing. I came to this site and found that she is getting your credit card number and personal information and then each month takes out 16.99 to 24.99 in unauthorized fraudulent purchases. Also when you try calling back to find out what is going on they say they can't find you in the system. If you ask to speak to a manager you are put on hold indefinitely or simply hung up on.
I suggest that people use/download Credit Karma it's free and accurate. If you just check your Credit Karma account history 1x a week, it will show everything from inquiries on your account to cards you signed up for etc. 1x a week checking your account can save you a lifetime of financial problems. Be proactive about your money, credit history etc because you can get financially ruined with one phone call. If it sounds to good to be true it probably is! Please do your research before handing over your financial life! I am so sorry for the people who are in turmoil from fraudulent scams. Positive vibes your way.
Desired outcome: We should collectively get our 500.00 gift cards. They should be shut down and any one involved should be jailed for fraud. This is illegal and they should be held accountable.
