Not the best fit for everyone
Don’t get me wrong, I like how the app is structured and the lessons are actually helpful but the fact is it really isn’t for everyone. I used the app for about 2 weeks on the free version which only allows you to do 2 lessons a day. I actually learned a good amount from it and the lessons were well written and helpful but the time it takes to complete the entirety of the lessons to be ready for a permit test just simply isn’t necessary for everyone. After the about two weeks I wanted to find a quicker way to learn and found my state’s practice tests on the official site and just practices those until I got good scores on all three of them. This process took me about three days max and I was ready for my permit test compared to the 2-3 months it would have taken me to complete the whole Zutobi course. Again it is a fantastic option for people who are okay with taking the whole course and taking about 3 months to do so but there may be better options for others.
Use this app!
Hi! If you want to get your permit but you just can’t sit down and read the book, maybe it’s the attention span (that’s me) or you just don’t have time (also me) or maybe the book is just too boring (also one of my problems ) this app helps out with these problems a lot. It’s on your phone and so whenever you have free time just open the app click on the next chapter and start reading. The chapter are just shortened versions of the actual book so you get all the information you need just in a shortened version! The app is colorful and it’s like a game. If you pass the tests, you get points and go to different levels, with these different levels, you get a different car each time! So it really grabs your attention and makes you wanna keep passing the tests and keep up to see how many points you get. So if anything I said sounds like wow that sounds fun or wow that would really help me out, then definitely get this app and check it out! 10/10 would recommend!
It’s a Trap
You have to pay in order to use this app. They charge 4.99 per week for you to be able to take any quizzes. The only thing you can do is take a one question test which asks you if you’re excited or not to learn. Then in order to continue to do anything on the app you will be charged 5 dollars a week. What 15-18 year old wants to pay that a week? Many kids don’t even have a job yet, so they’re not gonna have the money to pay for it. They’re better off just taking free quizzes on a different app or online. I understand that the app developer wants to make money, but $5 a week is a bit ridiculous. Maybe have a couple free quizzes so that if a kid doesn’t have money, they can at least get something out of the app. Also a few free quizzes would help an app user know just what it is that the app is offering. Once I saw that the app was gonna bill me for $5 a week, I literally didn’t hesitate to delete the app. There was nothing drawing me in. I’m begging the app developer to make some changes.
Amazing app but not all information are provided in lectures
I am a first time learner and I found this app to be a quite entertaining way to learn the rules of the road. There are cool graphics and fun scenario problems. However, answers of 1/4 of the test problems given aren’t explained in lectures. For example, it would ask you a question regarding where to check the oil level, but the tutorial mentioned nothing about checking oil levels, or even different parts of the car. I think this is a great app for someone who already has a some experience with driving or understands the different parts/function of the car, it would serve as a perfect refresher. But it might be challenging for someone like me who has little knowledge of how vehicles functions at all. (I have to search up a lot of the different vehicle parts myself in order to proceed with the questions sometimes). It would be great if the app can offer different levels of explanation based on the user’s level of knowledge. (Amateur/learning for the first time, prepping/reviewing for a test, expert/just reviewing the rules)
Thank you
At 20 years old it’s embarrassing to say that I just got my learners permit. I just “got around” to it because I suffer from severe anxiety and PTSD due to trauma from bad car accidents in the past. When I downloaded this app, I had no hope. I started using it to study, and thanks to the reminder setting, I actually went back to studying from time to time. All of a sudden I had the courage to try and drive in a parking lot, so I did. It was terrifying at first, but I did it.
After a while of studying and the mini tests that the app provides, I decided to make an appointment to receive at least my permit. I got to the “final test” on the app and I passed, I took it a few more times and I passed those times as well, so instead of waiting for my appointment, I just walked into my dmv. Of course I was still scared of failing, but I’m proud and happy to say that I passed with flying colors. Not a single incorrect answer. This app truly helped me learn all of the knowledge that I needed for the test, along with keeping me on track. I 100% recommend.
Angry Teenager
This looks like an awesome app and it does look like you can learn from it although I can’t really say that with certainty because I only took one test question that asked me if I was excited to take the test and then after that it told me I had to pay to learn. I’m 16! I can’t even go to 711 and buy myself a bag of chips! You should put in your title somewhere “Oh btw you have to pay for 99% of the app”. That would’ve been helpful! I know you have it in the description but not everyone reads them when they first download an app and paying for it is a vital piece of information that you should put at the very top so people won’t waste their time. Yea sure I can ask my parents but then that would make my head a moving target for anything and everything they can grab and that is including the chihuahua. I can get a job and then pay for it but wait how tf am I gonna get to my job. WITHOUT. A. CAR. My parents aren’t gonna drive me there! They don’t even take me to school I walk there and sometimes in the rain. If you’re in my situation. This app. Not worth it.
This thing is terrible
I’m 18 and have no use for the app really but I saw it on Instagram and in my complete boredom I figured why not see if I still know enough to pass and I downloaded it and did the first part where it asks if I’m excited which I wasn’t but whatever and then it say I have to pay to do the rest now like I said I don’t need it but even if I did I’m not paying for something as dumb as this just read the book if you really wanna study I passed mine and didn’t study for a second it’s really not that hard but if your that worried study the book they give you don’t waist your time or your money on an app that is targeting teens and asking them to pay for something you can get for free and I don’t even know if the information in the game is right but i know it is in the book and I see the people saying that they learned everything in 1 whole day and all is just so great but cramming for something important like this is not a good idea I’m glad they passed more power too you and if you can’t stay awake reading the book you have a lot more to worry about than just passing the test
Rigged
I was really happy and all, expecting to learn something, and I started the first test. There was literally only one question, and it asked me if I was excited to learn. So I hit yes, and tried to start the next test. Literally as soon as I clicked on it, it took me to this pay wall. I AM 16. I do not have money to pay for something like this. I don’t have the money and I am not going to ask my parents to pay for something like this monthly. My parents bust their butts off for me with the amount of income they get. They have enough bills to pay and I’m not gonna add another bill. If I had a job maybe, but I can’t get to work without a car, and I can’t a car without a permit and I can’t get a permit without passing the test, and I can’t past the test if I don’t know anything. This app is misleading. You download thinking you’re gonna learn something, but you can’t without paying. Remember your audience, most of the people that download this app are teens, and they aren’t making money to pay for something like this. And if you think I’m gonna ask my parents to pay for an app like this when I can google the answers if desperate enough, you’re mistaken.
Don’t bother if you can’t pay $4.99/week
I was excited to use this app as it was the most up to date dmv app available, but after the first lesson (which was a one question quiz saying “are you excited to get your drivers license?”) I was unable to move on to the second lesson without paying $4.99 as a weekly subscription.
The app appears to work as a point system, where you get enough points on one quiz in order to move onto the next. However, after taking that first quiz a dozen times, I was only able to achieve 300 points... it said I needed 582 points to move on to the next lesson. No matter how many times I tried to retake that first lesson I still could not get enough points to move on to the second one.
The only other option was to pay for a $4.99/week subscription which allowed access to all of the quizzes regardless of the amount of points you have. The issue with this is I’m 16 without a job or any time to get a job, and my mom doesn’t see the point in paying for an app if the dmv book works just fine. (Personally, I think this app would be way more convenient than the book if there wasn’t this subscription issue)
TLDR; App’s point system doesn’t work, so you need to pay in order to move on to the next lesson
Very helpful
Hi I’m Kiriah, and I’m 15 and taking my drivers-ED class this upcoming summer. I’m not gonna lie, I think this app is gonna help so much for when I go and take the actual class, and that questions are so accurate, which of course they have to be if they are anything for help I suppose. I’m so excited to be able to tell my parents that I’ve been studying for the class. The best part about it is that it’s not boring at all, at least I don’t think so. Zutobi allows you to see pictures and visualize what is actually happening so you can answer the questions correctly, but you still shod read the script that is provided before the quiz so you actually can understand what the pictures are showing and what the questions are asking. If you don’t know how to answer the question just choose the one that makes most sense to you. I definitely recommend Zutobi to people like me that have yet to take the class, and even people that have taken the class just to test themselves to see how they do. Like I said already I find the app super helpful, and makes me look forward to taking the class. I hope this was helpful, and I hope you try the app, I really enjoy it. Also I hope this paragraph makes sense to you.
Eh
Okay, so I do like this app, and it’s good for helping me study for my permit test, with all of the visuals and the simplicity of each chapter. That being said, and I get that you guys have to earn your money, but please, for the love of God, don’t lock everything behind a paywall! Most people, including me, are teenagers that are going to take their permit tests soon. Most of us don’t have jobs, and I can’t even buy premium because where I live, you have to be 16 to work. I think it’s a little scummy making teenagers pay to use this app. There are so many other ways for you guys to make money. I’d rather you NOT force us to buy premium and just make people watch ads. You COULD offer premium, but that should be optional, not forced upon everyone. Also, the reminder thing doesn’t even work. I set my reminder time to a certain time, and I get reminded 2+ hours after the time that I set. Fix that please. Also, seriously? Those who don’t get premium get a daily limit of TWO LESSONS? Are you kidding me? It’s like you’re punishing those who genuinely can’t buy premium, which that in and of itself is just a horrible thing to do. And also, why would you limit the amount of ads people can watch? Don’t you WANT more money? Limiting ads to two a day won’t make you more money. The least you can do is get rid of the limited amount of lessons those who don’t have premium can do. 2 a day is atrocious and messed up, and again, feels like a punishment.
It’s helpful but limited
I’m a complete beginner when it comes to driving and I have my first text in two weeks. I need to cram Bc these tests are expensive but I can’t can’t afford a premium membership . (Personally I don’t think there should be a premium service or ads for that matter when it comes to something as serious as driving). When it comes to ads I’m willing to watch to get what I need. But when I come across a 24 hour ad limit I’m furious. How will I be able to cram study now!? Unless you change this feature I will have to postpone my drivers text or pay for a second test. Another issue I have with this app is some of the test questions. On a test I was taking I found multiple questions that were not in the lecture. I guess this works for common sense and learn if you get it wrong. But it would be nice to know this stuff before the test. One example of this happening is the question about T-intersections. It asked me with road should yeild, the terminating road or the through road. I was confused because the lecture said nothing about T-intersections let alone terminatings and through. Everything else about this app works great in my opinion. It’s very engaging and I find myself getting many of the questions right even if they weren’t in the lecture. If you fix some of the problems you have this app would be perfect. (FYI, the share with friends tab in the settings is broken. I don’t have to send it to anyone I just have to press the button and exit. Repeat that 10 times and you get extra points)
Good but you should know your audience
First off let me give credit where credit is due, it’s a well developed app and is super simple to use. My biggest gripe however is the fact that you have to pay for it. I understand it’s difficult to develop an app and do all the research for every state and then turn around and make it completely free, but I downloaded the app in order to just see what I still know, I’m 17 and already took the test and passed. It’s a little annoying because I just wanted to go through it quickly and maybe even learn something new. The paywall is a little high, maybe drop the price down to 1.99 a week or 4.99 a month. The problem is how you can only do two “lessons” a day. I say lessons loosely because they don’t teach you much, it’s more of a pop quiz rather than teaching you the information. Granted it’s still wonderfully developed but I’d rather have a less developed app and it have lots of ads than an almost over developed app that requires a paywall. Like I said in the title “know the audience your selling to”, the marketing I got for the ad wasn’t even geared towards parents, it was to kids learning to drive. kids who need to get a permit in order to get a job should be your primary audience because people in low to middle income housing will use this much more than people in high income housing, because kids whose parents make a good living will just go to a real instructor. The cost is too high for kids to ask their parents to pay for it, anyways, good job to the development team in this one and sorry for the long review.
Why…
Ok so the app is great it’s high quality and the lessons are fairly simple to follow. Two things though. The fist is that I wish the tests were not in like a duolingo style of things but it’s not that bad and I don’t feel that they really need to change it or I won’t use the app. But, the premium. If you haven’t bought the app yet basically you download it and it asks you some questions that make sense like what state you live in (because road laws are different in other states) and what type of vehicle you are going to be driving, car, motorcycle, etc. And then it flashes you with a promo for buying premium, which yeah it’s annoying but it’s pretty common now days with mobile apps so I’m used to it. But here’s the mind blowing thing. So you click on the lesson thing and the lesson pops up with some text and picture to teach you then it has you take the test for that subject it just taught you. KEEP IN MIND THIS IS THE FIRST LESSON. You get through like the first 5 questions or so and then it flashes you again with the premium promo again and you would think you could just exit out of it and you can but when you do it exits you out of the test back to the lesson menu and you have to retake the test but when you get back to the test again it pops up the promo again. So basically you can’t do anything without paying for premium which would’ve be a big deal except the it’s 5 dollars a week which builds up over time which when you do the math adds up to $260.71 which is outrageous. I would be more okay with this if it was like $10 a month or $3 a week but geez. I wouldn’t download this app if your not going to pay for premium.
Very frustrated
Like many people who use this app I am a teenager. All I want to do is learn to drive properly so I will not endanger others or myself on the road. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult to do so when the Zutobi app stops you in the middle of tests to advertise their premium service. Then when you exit the app, it also kicks you out of the lesson completely. Normally, unless you pay for premium service, you have to go through ads to unlock the lessons (it can take a very tries before you get the option to watch an ad). Which I understand completely. It is annoying but understandable. Then everyday you are only allowed to complete two lessons after unblocked them with ads. Again, annoying but understandable. The part that really sets me off is when Zutobi interrupts you test with an ad, and does not let you complete the lesson. Without completing the current lesson you cannot move on to the next one. The ads that intrude on completing the lesson effectively prevent you from learning on their app at all. If Zutobi’s goal was to teach users how to drive properly, this would not happen. One would not be stuck on a lesson because they have to pay and cannot. I have tried several times to get past the advertisement in the test, and it still has not gone away. Not to mention, premium service on this app is $5 ($4.99) per week. It does not seem like much but unless you speed through all 62 lessons, plus tests, and do not forget at all, the service becomes expensive. Zutobi is run by greedy people who are trying to stop others from learning valuable information on how to drive properly, and this service is frustrating to use.
Extraordinary Free Driving Course For Everyone
I’m a 21 year-old guy that already has a driver’s license, but I just wanted to reinforce and test my knowledge. I’ve seen a lot of complaints about subscription fees, but like other great apps, the creators have to make money somehow. Plus, it’s not even that bad for what you get ($4.99/week). Personally I never paid or used the free trial, I simply watched one ad every day, and finish in just 2 months!
I do, however, have a few complaints of my own...
1. One question read as follows: “You’re driving in rain just below the speed limit, and you feel that you’re driving too fast for the conditions. What should you do?” This is so simple & obvious that as you can guess, the answer was SLOW DOWN.
2. Another question read as follows: “You’re at a crash scene and there is no risk of further collisions. What should you do?”
The answer is “call the emergency services, unless already done”. This answer would’ve been fine except for the last part. You should call 911 no matter what. How else are you going to know it’s already been done? By asking everyone who’s there? Not probable. By assuming? It’s bad to assume, because if everyone assumes no one calls 911.
3. Last but certainly not least: “You have a friend who has had a few beers at a party. What advice should you give him?”
Answer is “Go home by public transport or taxi”.
I think it’s not too bad of answer, but it should elaborate a bit more like saying “with a friend”. I wouldn’t want an intoxicated friend taking public transport alone since they are more vulnerable or can even cause him to lash out at someone else.
Overall, it’s great. I scored 100% on every lesson & test (although not all of them on the first try). Unfortunately I did get one wrong because how it was worded. Oh well, thanks for everything Zutobi:)

Could be better plus I never seen anyone update this cruddy app btw
I downloaded this app awhile ago and it is helpful with learning how to drive but you have to buy the driving plus which is apart of the app to even continue. If you don’t have the driving plus you would have to wait with adds just to take one test on it at a time but it also limits how much you do which isn’t helpful if you want to learn quickly and it won’t let you do anything until it is 24 hours later. Not to mention it deleted all of my progress on it a couple of times and made me start from the beginning.

You can’t go past the first question unless you pay
I downloaded this app hoping for a sort of practice test for my permit. Beside the fact that the app is free, you can’t go past the first question, or level, without paying a weekly fee of $4.99. Not to mention, the first question is “Are you EXCITED to get your drivers license?” with a yes or no answer. This app is pretty much useless considering that just a week of having it would cost almost $35 should you choose to pay for it. I will not be recommending this app to anyone and will be deleting it right away.

This app is rigged
I’m 13 and I get a drivers permit in two years. It’s asking me to fricken pay to go to next level I’m not gonna pay cuz I’m 13 and my parents wouldn’t either for this stupid app or I could watch videos every level IM NOT GONNA DO THAT. Think about it teens are most likely to get this app and they’re not gonna pay for this, it’s just stupid. And if I be could give a 1/4 or less star review I would. ALSO I WANTED TO DELETE MY ACCOUNT IN THIS APP AND IT ASKED TO PUT IN THE CODE THAT WAS SENT TO MY EMAIL ACC AND THERE WAS NOTHING THERE NO CODE WAS THERE LIKE WTH

DO NOT USE THIS APP
I have been trying to cancel my subscription for the past few weeks and it’s not letting me at all. First it’s saying I need a code from my email, yet it is not sending anything to my email account. Then it logged me out and is saying that my email is incorrect and will not let me log in- yet it is still charging my card...
I have tried to contact them but there is not contact number and it was very difficult to find an email but I have yet to receive a reply. I am extremely disappointed and don’t know how to get them to stop charging me.
DO NOT USE THIS APP!

This app is a scam
I was going to download this app to learn about more driving skills to get my license, but after the one question you can do for free, I had to pay. $4.99 a week is kind of insane for an app dont you think? I wouldn't have wasted my time if I had known I would have to pay.
I was really excited to hop on this app and learn some more, but once I deleted and read the other reviews, I was kind of frustrated and disappointed. Everyone else had the same issue and I really just do not think this was a good app if you don't have enough money to continuously pay $5 a week. It adds up pretty quick.

I had high hopes
When I saw an ad for this app I really thought it would be helpful because I’m going to start drivers ed soon. But I was sorely disappointed when the “free” app wouldn’t let me keep learning past level 1. I really do think this is a scam because they can’t be handing out free information, it always has to be for a price. I’m really upset that this app is not really what it is. I had high hopes and it didn’t meet them. As a teenager I don’t have the money to pay $4.99 a week and my parents don’t have it either. I think the creators of the app need to do some rethinking and stop being so greedy.

4.99 a week are you kindling us more like 4.99 non subscrition will get more users
i’m sorry but I’m highly disappointed. Because of the fact that 499 a week will start adding up to $20 a month which is $20 a month could add up to 60 after three months of continual use come on developers are you serious do you want more consumers or do you want less consumers with less profit I would make sense if you just do 499 per user to unlock the entire application so you have more people willing to pay into it for night night so bad for what you’re offering for five dollars a week is so unfortunately even if I did the trial I will not fall to paying you until you change your right from 4 499 to 4.99 unlimted

This app is good but they will not cancel the subscription
I pled please stop charging me for this app because I already paid the month and cancelled my subscription when i didn’t need it anymore and it still charges me for it I’m about to called my bank and make them send me a whole new card so that when it will try to charge me again for the 3rd time this month it will fail because this is ridiculous I tried to take it off through the app and it said I no longer have a account with them and it still charges me this makes me want to go back to a android because it’s absolutely ridiculous so before you purchase this app read the fine print because it will tell you it’s gonna charge you for it no matter how many months is free

No, just no!
Do not get this app unless you want to spend five dollars a week to get it premium. I got it because I wanted to actually test my skills out to get my drivers license. But you can only take one test and then you would have to pay for premium. And the only test you can take the question is “are you excited to get your drivers license”. And it will not let you take the second test. I tried to delete my account and it said it sent an confirmation code to my email. I checked my email and there’s no code. I CAN NOT DELETE MY ACCOUNT BECAUSE THEY NEVER SENT ME A CODE. I would not recommend this app. It’s a waste of time it’s a waste of money it’s a waste of everything. PERIOD.

Sell Out
I used to always use this app (without money) so I can try to get my learners permit and all of a sudden it costs $4.99 a WEEK?!?!?!?!?! I never thought this app/company would stoop so low I guess pop up ads weren’t making them enough money so they figured they can charge $5/week ($20 a month fyi). There are duplicate state tests online for free that i’ll use. It’s bad enough I have to pay alot for a permit and THEN a license plus car payments/car insurance. I lost so much respect for this app/company. Please don’t waste your money on a site like this you might as well donate it... or find someone that will help you download a glitched out version of this app where you can get it for free

Still failed the test
My daughter studied this app but she still failed the permit test. She’s a straight A student that has never failed a school test in her life. She’s an overachiever. On the final test this app gave with 88 questions, she got a 100 percent. So we thought she would breeze through the actual test. But the actual DMV test was asking her questions that were not in the app. Lots of them. I verified this for myself. For example, on the actual test, it asked her what the penalty for a 2nd DUI conviction; although the app talks about DUI convictions, it’s a generic terms and nothing specific. So I spent a bunch of money on an app that does NOT work. Save your money and just get the book the state provides.

annoyed
i downloaded this app yesterday and got to level 7 “recognizing signs”. i will watch an add or whatever to do the test, but i’m not going to pay. every time i go to watch the add for it it says “no add fill. please try again later” we’ll i’ve tried that and i have switched wifi routers multiple times. it kind of seems like they’re purposely trying to not make an add load so i will pay for the premium thing. which i won’t do since i’ve read multiple bad reviews about that. i’m already giving you money by downloading the app and watching adds. i’m not going to buy it if the app doesn’t work for me already. so i can’t use the app since an add won’t load. don’t download if your looking for something useful

Why not make buyers pay up front
This was a great idea for an app, and for a teenager studying for his permit test, that saw an add for this, I clicked on it right away. Going into it I had no intentions to have to pay for 99% of the app. It’s not that I can’t pay the $4.99 a week or month or whatever it was, it’s that I’m not willing to. My opinion would be to just have the buyers pay up front the price you intend and have everything bought without in app purchases. Most teens don’t really have the money for this anyway considering that that said teen has probably already bought his car/truck, now they have to get insurance and God knows that isn’t cheap. So I’m not downing this app or anything, it was a great idea but some people don’t have the time or money for it.

Not going to pay a cent
I know apps can take time to create but seriously do you need to make people pay? There are many websites and other apps that help you study for FREE. In the app you said it can be expensive to fail a test and which is why it is a good idea to use the app, but how does this app help? This app just adds to the permit test cost! Overall, just use other apps that are FREE and look around whenever you join in on a car ride and you will pass your test. There should never be a fee when studying for a test. Now I know that 5 dollars is not much but i could of had bought myself an icecream treat for myself after I pass my permit test. Also I did not use this app and I still pass which goes to show that free online permit testers are the same as this app.

paying
A developer did respond to me, and told me that you do have to pay for DMV genie, and I fully understand why you make us pay for the app, but from my understanding, or my POV. I can’t pay for an app myself because I am a minor, and I’m not old enough to get a job where I live. It takes me longer to learn in 3 days with a 3 day trial. . I do so much better learning with pictures, and visuals, I am sure that this app is an amazing app. I haven’t had to pay for DMV genie, and it’s been helping me a lot, but with that being said, keep on the good work on this app. I’m sure it’s great. I wasn’t trying to bring down your app, I was simply saying that I shouldn’t have to pay to learn, but I didn’t think about the time and effort it takes to make this app perfect.

5 dollars a week?
You get access to one question which asks you “If you’re excited to start learning” after this you are asked to pay 5 DOLLARS A WEEK and all you get is a free 3 days, not even a week. Why subscribe to something which will charge weekly when some people don’t even get paid weekly. You would be spending around $20 a month (about as much as I'm paying for my phone alone not including data etc.) just for an app when you can download the DMV app for completely free. Just because something is higher quality doesn’t mean people should pay $5 a week when theres plenty of free courses available. On top of a majority of the people downloading this are teens and often teens don't have jobs and don't want to bother their parent to pay $5 a week. The app looked promising until that.

Terrible app!
Hi my name is Rianna and I downloaded this app Monday October 14, you have to pay I think $5 every week and the questions aren’t explained greatly. One of the questions I had was somewhere on the lines of is anyone able to pass by on this road and it had a solid line and a dashed line on the other side so I clicked yes and I got it wrong. They aren’t specific on the questions, another was how to stop a car with the engine and so I clicked the answer I thought was write and I got it wrong yet again... the explanation they gave was something about a hill, even though in the question it said nothing about a hill... I even asked my mother who has been driving for 30 years to answer one of the questions I got wrong and she did too and said the question wasn’t explained properly.
