Academic Singles had a promotion to purchase a week at a reduced cost. I signed up for the week & payed for the week. at the end of the month, a full months subscription was deducted from my credit card. I queried it & I was told that it automatically renewed. I then canceled the renewal - via the app/website, via email, the app repeated a letter be posted to cancel the subscription (which I did) only to be continued to be billed month after month. My bank recommended canceling my credit card until it was resolved, as they couldn’t stop the funds from being taken.
The following is a copy of the mail:
On 2022/12/08, your subscription under email address XYZ, which was purchased on 2022/09/07 at www.academicsingles.co.za, was automatically renewed for 1 month.
This renewal was made according to our Terms and Conditions, which you confirmed having read and accepted.
Product purchased: 1 month Premium Membership

We are unable to debit the subscription fee. You are required to pay the overdue subscription fee of R 999,00, plus the handling fees of R 199,00.
The total amount now due is R 1198,00.
To stop the automated collection process you must pay the amount in full before the deadline below. If you do not pay the outstanding amount in full or you exceed the payment deadline, we will pass your case to an external debt collection agency. This would, unfortunately, lead to further costs and these would be passed on to you.
