Hello,
This incident occurred on October 17, 2023, at I arrived at Advocate South Holland Medical Group to see my PCP, but was provided will the wrong information. The clerk allowed me to see ICC. I saw a Nurse Practioner Martel Warden at 10:30 am. He stated that he was going to order a steroid ( Decadron) and Azelastine nasal spray for Viral Upper Respiratory tract infection. At about 11:00 am a Medical Assistant came to my room and gave me medication in a clear plastic cup and told me to drink it. I asked what the medication. She said it was a steroid. After I drank the medication, the Medical Assistant was told how badly it burned my throat and upper abdomen. I was discharged home.
I wasn't feeling any better on 10/19/2023. I was given RX for take home medication. I was still feeling like my throat and upper abdomen continued to burn.
I saw my PCP on 11/04/2023 for my dry burning throat, upper abdomen pain cough, and headache. I was told by my PCP that I received a Decadron 10 mg injection. I explained to her that I received the decadron orally. The medication caused my throat and upper abdomen to burn and feel really dry.
There was a medication error made. dexAMETHasone (DECADRON) injection 10 mg (Starting on 10/17/2023 at 11:00 AM was ordered but the medication was given orally. Did I receive the injection medication by mouth instead of as ordered? Is this the reason my throat and upper abdomen to burn and feel really dry? I felt sick for several days following this incident.
